Jim's billiards and steam house!?! This place is hot as hell. No music is played except on a juke box so I had to listen to crap music that was distracting and not pool hall norm. We were greeted and prices were fair but the table a little closer than normal but the place can be better. The pool tables were nice and level and the counter up top was nice to have since we play straight. The lack of AC or any circulation but the fans that circulated the same air over and over was a deal breaker. Ok place if you are one of the locals who may not know what good is. read more

You know with a name like Diamond Jim's it sounds very classy but it really isn't. Let's put it this way, I've seen better restrooms at gas stations along the interstate. It's dirty, looks like it hasn't been cleaned thoroughly in a long time and that includes the tables and balls themselves. The layout isn't all that good for shooting at least if your shooting on tables situated around the bar when they have a crowd. It was wildly loud where you couldn't hear a person right next to you... it was loud to begin with and at some point they actually turned the music up which was competing with the TVs. We ended up here because our daughter had a birthday party at Bounce U and we needed to kill some time. First off, a previous reviewer mentioned the stale cigarette stench and he/she is right. This place REEKS! It didn't smell fresh but they definitely let people smoke here after a certain time. The bartender denied it but she's wrong. People smoke in this place. So that's one negative. The place stinks. That knocked two stars off. Hubby and I ordered Guinness and it wasn't very good. It got poured a little too quickly and I also don't think they serve a lot of it because it tasted flat (as in flavor) and stale. The tables were full and it seemed like an amiable enough place but bad Guinness and stink=2.5 stars rounded down to two because I really can't give it 3. read more

Been here a few times at night with groups of 4 or more. This is a great local pool hall. The staff is friendly. The bar has reasonably priced drinks. They have a small vending machine however they allow you to have food delivered. Not too noisy or as dim as traditional pool halls. Great lighting. Good spot to shoot or even just have a few drinks. OK, so its been awhile since I've been anyplace in NY that smelled like cigarette smoke. Now, I didn't actually SEE anyone smoking at Diamond Jim's, but the smell implies the staff might look the oher way now and then. Otherwise, the place had pretty nice pool tables, and the cues were not the bent ass ones you see in a lot of bars. The bar had Stella on tap, was cheap, and the bartender was friendly, so its all wins on that front. Its hard to find fun in Rockland, especially with my Dad & his wife, so this place gets 4 stars for making my Thanksgiving weekend a good one. read more

There is no pretense here. The bar is for drinking from, and the tables are for playing at. It was exactly what we needed and we felt welcome. Had never set foot in a pool hall before until a gf volunteered to introduce me and 2 others to diamond jims. Can't wait to go back! We had such a great time. Since I don't know much about pool let alone pool halls i can't make comparisons but I'll be dipped if there's a better place than DJ's anywhere in Rockland or vicinity. Place had a really nice vibe. Others - real pool players! - were very friendly and willing to give us advice Drinks were inexpensive - where else do you get a LI Icetea for 5!!!! (Maybe it was happy hour price) Cheers. They don't serve food but let you order in! There were folks obviously coming straight from work, to chill and play a quick game and there were families, Young kids and ooooold peeps. I have been meaning to go shoot some pool at Diamond Jim's for quite sometime. Finally made it there and it was just OK. First of all the one and only employee seamed bothered that we were there and needed to buy pool balls. He was multitasking running the bar, check in desk along with getting paid to stand around. I opened a tab at the bar then played for an hour. Pool tables are nice. However we left and I closed my tab..... The following day my debit card got declined at the grocery store. I was extremely confused as why. I called my financial institution, and then realized that I had someone else's debit card. It's extremely frustrating when you figure this out on a Saturday evening, and you can't get a card replacement. We both had the same bank card, but come on pay attention to the cards that you are giving back. I now have transactions on my account that aren't mine and no card. Thank you Nick at diamond Jim's for giving my card to a stranger, and the frustration that you have caused. Will not be returning, and my advice is to pay in cash. read more
