Anyway, here are the details and key points to consider: 1) This is close enough to everything, without being in the middle of crowded spaces and sites. 2) Most sites have water and electricity if you want it. 3) It's peaceful and has designated quiet hours after 11pm. 4) Pet friendly (on leashes) 5) HOT showers on-site, plumbing, and a laundry room if you need it. 6) The office has several convenience items if you need it. This is not the place for you if you want to be ultra-rugged and in seclusion, but is perfect for a campfire getaway with some minor creature comforts.

The property is surrounded by woods, which gives it a peaceful, cabin in the north-woods kind of vibe. The lake views are really gorgeous but good luck getting one... By the time we checked in all those rooms were taken, so we ended up with a stunning view of a parking lot and some trees. Postcard material, if the postcard is from a rest stop! Walking into the room, the first thing that hit us was this strong, leftover food smell - like someone had just cooked something super spicy and the scent decided to stay for the weekend. It wasn't exactly the fresh, clean place we were hoping for. And to top it off the other side of the building had its own thing going on - its own kind of funky, musty odor that hung in the air. Not AWFUL, but noticeable. Not the kind of scent that says "welcome" more like "something weird went in the walls". The room did not do itself any favors either, there were dust, and dirt in random spots, and when we made the mistake of checking under the couch and cushions, we discovered a little time capsule of old food crumbs and debris. Cozy! It looked like the furniture had not been updated in a while - unless " 1990s cabin chic" is making a comeback. On the bright side, the shower actually worked pretty well - hot water, great pressure. Honestly that was probably the highlight of the room. Outside there is some tennis courts , and a basketball hoop. Which is a nice touch if you are into that kind of thing, ( or if you need to burn off frustration from your room situation.) Overall the Landmark has potential - the location is solid and the grounds are peaceful - but the rooms REALLY need more attention and care. If they put in the effort to clean better and refresh the interiors, this could be a great spot. Until then, maybe bring some freshener, and DO NOT look under the cushions, and keep your expectations in check!

A review of Door County/FAQ for some of the people who have given less than perfect reviews to…read morecertain Door County establishments and for those who are new to Door County and the Door County lifestyle: A few things about Door County. Firstly, there is a very good reason for the visitors tax. DC is a completely separate entity from the rest of the state&essentially from the country at large. Its almost completely sustainable by itself. It has it's own economy. That economy is run almost completely on tourism. You are paying for the luxury of an old-fashioned sustainable economy, the likes of which you won't find elsewhere (well, maybe in Cape Cod or The Hamptons). You must consider this when visiting. The taxes you pay when staying in and while eating, shopping, etc. in Door County go to a good cause. As the county is almost entirely separate and sustainable in its own right, any extra money you pay either in taxes or just during your visit in general goes to a great cause and is used to keep the county running in the future in the way that it has been able to do these past thirty or forty years. In my opinion, we are very fortunate to be able to have such a place available to us in the United States in this day and age. As to the county 'closing at 9pm,' a criticism that I don't find to be entirely fair, which I've found in several reviews of DC establishments, it depends on what time of year you're visiting of course, although I know plenty of places all over the peninsula that are open late year round. Try JJ's/La Puerta or Husby's in Sister Bay next time, or Shipwrecked Pub or Mojo Rosa's in Egg Harbor. There are many options available in downtown Sturgeon Bay as well, or book a late night tour of the peninsula or a pub crawl at Lautenbach's in Fish Creek. You'll have a blast! Honest Review We…read morestayed for a week at the Evergreen cabin for our honeymoon, first time in door county. First the positives: neighborhood dog Bruno is so sweet and well behaved. The afternoon cookies were delicious and the decor of the cabin was lovely. The cons: Upon our arrival promptly around check in at 3pm it was 84 degrees in the cabin because the air conditioning was not turned on. Took several hours to cool down in the middle of July. The smell of moth balls was a bit overpowering. We were shocked to find the entire downstairs locked (4 doors total). We paid $2700 to rent a cabin for the week. Upon check in we received a note from the owners that for an additional $1500 they would open the remaining rooms downstairs. Our only open door inside was our room and bathroom upstairs. We had to go upstairs to use the only restroom. No typical comforts to be found- blankets for cold evenings to be found in the cabin, robes. The whirl tub went off twice in the middle of the night, 2 hours after turning off in the bedroom. Halfway through the week we ran out of toilet paper from the two roles of low ply they provided. When we asked about their adorable neighborhood dog they sent a lovely message back right away. When we asked for more toilet paper, radio silence, never responded. We went and bought our own for the remaining trip. Not the honeymoon experience we hoped for.
