My favorite place to eat when I'm in town. It's literally a one stop shop and I'm here for it. Need gas? Check. Want a great burger? Check. Need bait? CHECK! But let's talk about the best burger of my life. Yes, the best burger of my life. I got the 1/3 lb cheeseburger, which was the perfect size. You have options for buns and cheese but I'm a lover of spice and opted for a jalapeño sourdough bun with pepper Jack cheese. A winning combo with zero regrets. Sandwiched between this bun of perfection was the most perfectly cooked, juicy beef patty. Topped with picture perfect fresh veggies and a layer of mayo. *drools* I also got some delicious crispy curly fries to accompany the burger and I would recommend them! If you've got room left, try a slice of pie. I've tried a few flavors in the past but they didn't have any this time so we just grabbed some pints of Blue Bell to take home. I have eaten here a good dozen times with coworkers from a near-by railroad bridge and highway project that we are doing. The service here is down right hospitable and the staff is very friendly. They have good menu choices with very reasonable prices. The food has always been fresh and very delicious. I've had both burgers and salads here and that has been the norm with my coworkers as well. Everyone always seem to enjoy their meal and everyone leaves full. The cafe is part of a convenience store so you can get snacks, drinks, fuel, etc. for your road trip needs. Always try to eat local as these places are so much better than chains! This little gem did not disappoint! We both got hamburgers and French fries. These burgers were so juicy and flavorful with lots of fresh vegetables and a soft bun. French fries were hand cut and delicious. Many of the people around us were having the catfish which looked fantastic. We took two pieces of pie to go - chocolate cream and French buttermilk. Wow! Again - eat local! read more

One particular waitress who is nothing more than a warm body, and that's how they like it, low pay, subordinates overriding Mgrs rules, and most of the time the one waitress, everyone knows who she is (K) spending more time arguing and sitting around flirting with married men instead of doing something productive. I've lost quite a lot of respect after coming there in person vs having catering, but now they have also lost not only my personal business but they're catering job with our company as well. Back roads from Austin to the mountains I passed this humble looking store cafe. I asked if the chicken strips were frozen. Dumb question right. WRONG. they weren't. Neither were the home fries. Best chicken strip basket I have ever had. HUGE breast pieces, great crust breading over look to be first pan seared chicken. Had a great taste. Fries were skin on hand cut. Stopped in Zephyr, Texas for a history lesson and lunch. First the history lesson. In 1898 this open air structure was built and is called the Zephyr gospel tabernacle. Events were held here both religious as well as town social events. In 1909 this structure was heavily damaged as was much of the town due to a cyclone (also known as a tornado). The structure was resorted in 1976. Now for lunch across the street. Ate at a 5 start restaurant/gas station. It was very clean, great service and even better food. If you are ever in the area stop by and get a burger. You deserve it...oh and get the onion rings too. Everything here is homemade to order. Thanks Diamond R Cafe! read more

I would like to start this review off by saying that Diamond R is a nickel and dime you cafe. My family had lunch there today May 20th and ordered 3 lunch special which was the chicken fried steak I ordered an extra side of brown and white gravy this is where the waitress should had informed us that it cost $1.50 each for a side of gravy. when we received our lunch there was no gravy on any of our chicken fried steak and every plate had 2 sides of each gravy. The waitress came and ask if everything was ok and I said how come there was no gravy on our steak and she said she didn't know but when it was time to pay the bill Diamond R's manager charged us an extra $9.00 for the gravy's. The sad part is I worked at Diamond R before, this was the last time we will eat in this cafe again. So if you are passing though I suggest that you keep driving to Early Tx the next little town where there restaurant have better food just FYI read more

Chicken Fried Steak so damn good I wanted to bang the chef. Those green beans were on point but what's not on point when you add some bacon to the dish. Their mashed potatoes though came out luke warm and were alright. I was surprised when the waitress came out with a piece of chocolate cake. I guess it comes with the meal. It was good as hell so I ain't complaining. I was actually skeptical when my friend said let's go to lunch here. I was like WTF is this place? Yo, the place was crowded and I was the brownest mofo in that joint. lol You know I have to give this place Five stars as it is located in a small town and if I want to come to come back I better be nice. This is a nice little cafe with great food and excellent service. I had the Bulldog breakfast with patty sausage, crispy hashbrowns, and eggs over easy. The cook broke one of the eggs so he put another one on my plate for a total of 3. Instead of toast I had their biscuits which were very good. I asked for some of their homemade salsa and it was very tasty all in all a great breakfast. They leave a coffee pot on your table so you never run out. Thank you read more

Hubby and friend ate there today around 12:30. They both said the best burgers and fries they had ever eaten! Excellent tea! Very clean, nice atmosphere, friendly people and servers. I can't wait to go there myself, they can't go back without me! Saw the wonderful reviews, I love good fried catfish. When we can't hunt or fish we love to take road trips. Delish! I ordered the chicken fried steak and my hubs ordered a hamburger with the jalapeño bun. They said next time we should add the jalapeño cream cheese. It was all delicious. My salad came with a healthy sprinkling of cheese... but the greens and tomatoes were fresh and yummy. The gravy was decadent! Highly recommend!
