Everything thing was cooked well and delicious. Husband said the shrimp was nothing spectacular, I think he would go with just scallops next time. This is not a review against our server but definitely one for suggestions for the restaurant. Even on a busy night (normal in this industry), it's very clear they are understaffed and overworked. The business needs to either hire more wait staff or reduce capacity to maintain appropriate ratios of staff to guests. The food was good when we received it. It took a very long time from the food to travel from the kitchen to our table (understandable) but my husband did not receive all of it so then we had to wait an additional 20 minutes after I was finished eating before he got his portion. For $25 a plate, it was rather off putting. I also think it's rather inappropriate for the business to tell guests that they can leave a great rating for a sand dollar. Seems dishonest. I'll leave an honest rating and buy a sand dollar on Amazon. Shout out to our server Kelly for being a rockstar with this experience. She definitely deserves a raise. read more

We tried everything and all of it was delicious. Sushi - clam strip, hush puppies, French fries, chicken and shrimp boil. They gave extra cocktail and ketchup without asking. Everyone was happy and full at the end of the night. We had a long ride down and it seriously hit the spot. Chowder looks amazing - next time- it was just too hot of a day for soup! I've been coming to the Outer Banks for over twenty years and this little joint is always meeting expectations. We hadn't been down here in the last few years, and were staying in Corolla this time, but we made an overnight trip to Ocracoke (the best) last night. After an absolutely disappointing dinner last night at Howard's Pub (what happened to that place?! $80 for two people and it was horrible!)... Diamond Shoals swooped in on our way back north and saved the day. Everything came out hot and fast, as usual. Just to save myself some time so I can finish eating, just trust me everything is good, fast, friendly, and clean, and incredibly reasonably priced. It's a gem, well... Diamond. read more

My family and I love to have brunch on Sundays at Diamond Shoals. Their pancakes and French toast are great. They also offer a large variety of omelettes. Their hash browns are very tasty, too. They have a sushi bar. Attention is good. Waitresses are friendly and fast. I definitely recommend this restaurant because of its excellent attention, good food, fair prices and ease of access. They are located on the surf side as you drive into Buxton coming from Avon on Route 12. read more

If you want to eat fresh off the boat fish , this place is for you. The freshest fish , just caught. The Black grouper is so yummy. The slaw is nice and crunchy. The hush puppies are crisp with a real nice moist flavor. They will prepare anything in their case to your exact specifications. Super nice to boot. Our trip this past weekend we ate at this restaurant twice. The first time we ate there we had breakfast and the coffee is amazing. they ship it in from the Netherlands and it's smooth with a little bit of a nutty taste no acidic aftertaste at all very good. I ordered a BLT and it was loaded with bacon and very well done my friend ordered a regular two egg breakfast with potatoes and everything was cooked to perfection. The only reason I couldn't give it five stars is the service is kind of slow. The second time we ate there we had lunch we ordered a burger to split and a salad to split the murder was so huge we couldn't even eat the salad. the burger was absolutely wonderfully cooked juicy lot of flavor they hand Patty than they are really really good. again the service was a little slow and that's the only reason I couldn't give it five stars and it's a little bit pricey but not too bad. read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night during peak season. The place was packed, but service was quick and friendly. I really enjoyed the rice wrapped fried shrimp. I haven't had anything else like it on the island. It was nice to have a more unique dish because all of the fried seafood on the island sort of blends together. Speaking of which, we also ordered the Mate's Platter and two rolls of sushi. Both were good, but nothing stand out. The sushi could've had a stronger flavor and the fried seafood was the same thing you find at any restaurant on the island. Good, not amazing. Ugh. I really wanted to like this place.. it was the only restaurant we went out to during our stay in NC. The Yelp reviews were good which I don't understand after my experience. I called four days earlier and was told to put my name in and I would be placed on a call ahead list. We had a party of 10. When we got there the staff in the front were all frazzled.. not to mention rude. We put our name on the list and still waited over an hour to get in. I understand they were busy but the rudeness by the staff in the front (which I think included the manager) could have been done without. Once we got seated we had a very nice server who happened to be new and made the experience slightly better. However.. it took another hour to get any food and we had 3 hungry bored kids to deal with. On to the food: the only good thing was the hush puppies. The kids enjoyed these too. The rest of it was VERY mediocre. I mean how do you screw up fried clams and fries? We were all very underwhelmed with our dishes. They also claim to specialize in sushi. My favorite food is sushi and my sister in law had three recommended rolls for her meal. She said the taste was off and she was not feeling it at all. What a disappointment after waiting two hours to eat! I will not come back here. The staff in the front, wait time and food is not worth it in any way. read more

The only place around to get a real breakfast on a Sunday (coming from Hatteras) we were told. So we went. 20 minute wait as it was crowded. No biggie. Got seated and handed menus. Never got acknowledged again. A few waitresses walked past us several times. Not one ever said "I'll be right with you soon" or asked us what drinks we wanted. Nothing. It was like we weren't even there. Having been occupied by the cool pics of past OBX on the table, I didn't realize we waited so long until my hunger reared up and reminded me and I looked at my watch. After sitting there thirsty and starving for about 25 minutes, I said "let's leave in 5 minutes if someone doesn't acknowledge us by then". So we got up and left 5 minutes later. Went to Connor's market and got some frozen breakfast bowls and heated them in our hotel as we mourned the wasted time in our limited time in Hatteras. I get it that everyone in America is short staffed. I have no problem with that. I'm patient. But not even getting acknowledged that we were sitting there ready to order, menus on the outer edge of the table to hopefully attract a waitress...it was honestly bizarre. I never got up and left a place before. I've never been ignored like that before. (And we are normal people. No political shirts or anything weird or offensive) It was a definite damper on our day. Amazing coffee, friendly service and delicious breakfast. I enjoyed my chicken biscuit and I bought some of their coffee to bring home.

We did takeout twice and both times we ate the flounder stuffed with crab meat and scallops. Awesome food.

Only reason they didn't get one star is the staff was very nice. We stopped in based on the Yelp reviews and everyone in our group was really disappointed. Most of the items our group ordered for breakfast (corned beef hash, hash browns, biscuits, sausage gravy, etc.) were the same as you'd get off the back of a freezer truck and served at Dennys or IHOP. Only difference between the chain restaurants and here is that this place is twice as expensive for the same mediocrity. Definitely will not be returning. read more

We have enjoyed several meals here this week. Breakfast is delicious and offers a nice selection. I liked the mushroom, spinach omelette with home fries and a biscuit. Coffee is tasty and bottom less. Dinner is delicious too!! A basket of freshly made hush puppies is placed at your table to compliment your wine. A nice selection is offered. Worth the wait. We came for a late lunch and the place was packed. Service was friendly and as fast as possible with a full house, but we're on island time and in no hurry. I had the grouper wrap and my husband had the grouper sandwich. We were both impressed with the freshness of all the ingredients and flavors. We're looking forward to trying Diamond Shoals for breakfast and dinner and are planning on buying seafood from the market soon. This was a very surprising find. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms, had a great fresh salad from the salad bar, and enjoyed the crab and shrimp.
