Didn't have a very good experience here. Everything was fried in the same batter and all tasted the same. Tasted as though the frying oil was old. The crab cakes were full of shell and the consistency of a mushy salmon patty. The mashed potatoes were tangy and strange. Several of us got the captains platter but quantities were inconsistent. I had 1 shrimp while others had 4-6. They offer you a free sand dollar if you leave a good review before you leave which explains the good reviews...... Server was nice. read more

Great little spot for some seafood! Ordered out from here during COVID, and was pleasantly surprised with how quick the turn around time was. It took a little less than an hour (granted our food order was massive). We tried the tomato basil crab bisque and the Captain's Platter between my husband and I. More than enough for the both of us! The crab cakes and crabmeat mixture was riddled with shells, shell particles in nearly every bite. When it was brought up to the waitress and the owner they said what do expect it's shellfish. First of all you could tell the waitress was new. Secondly, the bar was closed but our waitress had to get an older bartender to get our drinks. Food was good but took long to get second drinks..... Diamond Shoals is a solid go-to resturant in Buxton. With plenty of seating, a wide variety of foods offered, and a pleasant staff, you cannot go wrong. We ordered the fresh catch, captains platter, shrimp tempura sushi and the surf N turf and enjoyed sharing our plates with each other to experience it all. The downside is that everything is fried. To combat that, they do have a salad bar which is an additional 5.99-6.99 to any plate. Overall, pricing is comparable to other seafood restaurants, so be prepared for $20-35 a plate. The gift shop will keep everyone occupied as they wait for a table or on their way out. read more

During a brief vacation to the outer banks my husband and I were craving seafood. Diamond Shoals is our local friends' number one favorite restaurant to go to so we decided to check it out! Since we only needed a table for 4, there was no wait. There were a few larger groups with more than 6 people who were waiting outside for a table. The service was fast and they came out with a basket of hot hush puppies with the right crunch on the outside and corn kernels on the inside! Yum. The 4 of us split 2 orders of Captain's Platter, which comes with a large plate of shrimp, scallops, fish, calamari, and oyster. Each platter also comes with 2 sides and we tried the sweet potato fries and vegetables (green beans and some onions and red peppers). My husband and I also split a bowl of clam chowder, and one of our friends got the $3.99 salad bar in addition to the meal. He came back with a heaping plate of salad with lots of toppings. Each Captain's Platter (~$25) was more than enough food for 2 people and we were stuffed when we finished it!! You can order all the seafood broiled OR fried (clam strips and oyster always comes fried) and we got it broiled to be a little healthier. My fave part of the platter was the scallops and the grouper, which were both tender and juicy. Ask for a bottle of tartar sauce to go with the seafood. Overall we were very pleased with the fresh and tasty seafood here and I can see why my friends who lives in the OBX come here every week! read more

BEST. EEL. ROLL. EVER? Quite possibly. I'll elaborate a little more on that further down. Came here for dinner with a party of 8 total around 7PM and the restaurant was almost at full capacity. Decided to do take out so we could eat across the street and avoid paying tip! (lolz). Ordering out was a little confusing as some of my friends didn't pay til later after they placed their order as I paid right after I placed my order. Standing/sitting room before you get seated is very small. I got the eel roll which is just a basic eel roll. It was DELICIOUS. The eel tasted super fresh and the eel sauce was great. The roll came out with 8 pieces so i was excited about that too. Also got the Salmon Lox with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers! Combo sounded great but the roll was just okay. Eel roll was definite the star. I think my friend got the Surf Girl Roll or something like that which was also very tasty. Two rolls for under 20 bucks is a good deal to me especially for how good it tasted. P.S.- if you think two white guys can't create awesome rolls here, you're missing out on some really good sushi. read more

Went to go eat here and the hostess was extremely rude. We didn't know they closed from 2-4 and they still had their open sign on and an open flag flying out front. The hostess said in a very rude manner, "We're closed" and walked away. Customer service definitely needs some improvement. Restaurant and ambiance was really nice. Plenty of parking. Right off the highway and easy to find. Food was very subpar though. I got the shrimp, potato wedges, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were good just a little cold and super thick from sitting a while, the potato wedges were ok. Kinda hard to mess those up. However, the shrimp. It was not edible. It was hardly fried. The breading tasted very old. Several shrimp were breaded together and hardly fried. My wife's chicken tenders were also breaded bad, and tasted like shrimp. We had a large group of 9. The waitress barely talked to us and was not very friendly. Now I understand she had several tables. But, that doesn't mean you should just walk up sit down plates, refill drinks twice, and never say a literal word. It was extremely expensive. Our family of 3 kids (kids meals) and two adults are for $120 with tip. There are several places here. I would suggest going somewhere else. read more

I was going to give three stars because the food was excellent. But I cannot even do that. I read complaints on other reviews about masks and assumed the owner took it to heart but clearly not. The hostesses and one server I saw wore them, not ours. The worst part of the experience was all the patrons without them then add to it a salad bar people kept walking to and the seating... it was almost empty when we arrived and they sat people at the booth behind us. Then stacked diners table by table. Absolute disregard for NC guidelines and common sense. I am not sure to get the "social distancing enforced" to be removed but it was not happening at all. read more

Very easy to find which is nice. I wish I could give this place 5 stars but i have a couple complaints about it. Everything was amazing but, the rolls and fish were warm. Not a pleasant warm either. I got the Tiger Roll, and the Surfer Boy Roll. Both were very good and i would repurchase again. Walking into the place i was immediately seated with the Four others with me at the sushi bar. (Which we requested.) The workers were very sweet and nice to me and my family. We all shared some laughs and talked about our favorite sushi. Went here after climbing the lighthouse. Which is a struggle all it's own when it is 90+ outside. Our server was great, kept the kiddos at bay with drinks and whatnot. Food was pretty good, not the best in the world, but good. The prices were spot on and the flavor was there. I had the fish and chips (fries) and they were great. Went out for my birthday. The people are so friendly. We sat at the sushi seats. The sushi chef is an artist. He had me mesmerised with his work. I had crab legs. My husband had the sushi. The sign said rated best claim chowder! It was the worse I had ever had. Way too much seasoning. Same with food and tater sauce. It over powered the meal. I think if they would learn to scale back a lot on the fresh herbs (which they grow) it would be soo much better. It's like their motto must be if a little is good a whole lot must be better! Nice salad bar and decent selection. This is our second time in 3 years and I think we will pass it up from now on and try some where else read more
