Restaurant and ambiance was really nice. Plenty of parking. Right off the highway and easy to find. Food was very subpar though. I got the shrimp, potato wedges, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were good just a little cold and super thick from sitting a while, the potato wedges were ok. Kinda hard to mess those up. However, the shrimp. It was not edible. It was hardly fried. The breading tasted very old. Several shrimp were breaded together and hardly fried. My wife's chicken tenders were also breaded bad, and tasted like shrimp. We had a large group of 9. The waitress barely talked to us and was not very friendly. Now I understand she had several tables. But, that doesn't mean you should just walk up sit down plates, refill drinks twice, and never say a literal word. It was extremely expensive. Our family of 3 kids (kids meals) and two adults are for $120 with tip. There are several places here. I would suggest going somewhere else. read more

Went out for my birthday. The people are so friendly. We sat at the sushi seats. The sushi chef is an artist. He had me mesmerised with his work. I had crab legs. My husband had the sushi. He was very happy. They had real wasabi. And the sushi chef grows his own herbs. The food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back. read more

The sign said rated best claim chowder! It was the worse I had ever had. Way too much seasoning. Same with food and tater sauce. It over powered the meal. I think if they would learn to scale back a lot on the fresh herbs (which they grow) it would be soo much better. It's like their motto must be if a little is good a whole lot must be better! Nice salad bar and decent selection. This is our second time in 3 years and I think we will pass it up from now on and try some where else read more

We actually stopped because we saw the sign in the window claiming they have the best clam chowder. Clam chowder was just what we were in the mood for! It was delicious!!!! We also ordered some friend shrimp and fried clams baskets and some hush puppies. Everything was so good and really hit the spot on a cold, drizzly day! Stopped in for lunch. Got the Tomato Basil Crab Bisque and could've eaten a gallon of it - delicious. I got the ribeye/mushroom wrap which was loaded with steak and delicious. My daughter got the seafood quesadilla which was stuffed with tons of crab and shrimp. Husband got steak sandwich which he loved. This was our first visit here and so glad we stopped in. I ordered 2 softshell crabs and baked potato for $20.00, girlfriend got 2 crabcakes for 25.00. My potato was lukewarm and wouldn't melt butter. Brought our drink flights with not only no explanation, but didn't tell us what each drink was. 4. When I asked about the black grouper, I was told "It's another species of grouper." A very busy restaurant in the outer banks. I expected an excellent experience but it fell short of expectations. Our waitress was very courteous and attentive to our needs when ordering and recommending dishes. However, this establishment is way overpriced for what you get especially for the captains platter. The New England clam chowder was fair at best and there should have been more bang for your buck. The salad bar was not included with dinner and the sushi station was closed. The hush puppies were delicious but not worth the money. I'm sure there are other locations with much better prices. read more

Let me start by saying that We got there right at the openimg of the dinner service and we were sitted promptly hoping they would sit people at list six feet apart, but I was wrong. Our waitress got upset when my wife ordered a side salad and then changed her mind because there were people not wearing any face coverings, no one was sanitizing the serving utensils.... By the time our appetizers arrived they started sitting people right next to us even though there were plenty of other tables available. My family and I felt very uncomfortable so we rushed esting our entrees and stormed out of the place. I hope this establishment takes this pandemic in a serious way or they are definitely creating a Covid19 breeding place. read more

My family has been coming to Buxton for over 20 years. Diamond Shoals has always been a favorite and it keeps getting better over the years! There's a bit of a wait for your food to arrive, but trust me, it's worth it. Last night, I got broiled shrimp and scallops in butter and white wine. It came with two sides (most of their entrees do) and I chose the green beans and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were good, but omfg the green beans were incredible. Perfect texture, nicely seasoned, mixed in with sauted red and white onions. Two of my family members got the grilled salmon and it was cooked to perfection. My dad and my sister are a fan of their teriyaki rice, but unfortunately they were out when we went last night. Just a testament to how good it is I guess! Oh yeah, they also have sushi here. If you're any thing like me, you might be skeptical about a non-Japanese restaurant selling sushi, but I've had it before and it delivers. The people here definitely know their fresh fish. read more

Sushi was on fi-ya! Really great spot. I didn't try the chowder which is apparently their speciality but everything I had was good. Got the Mate's platter, grouper (amazing), shrimp (perfect), clam strips (awesome), and crab cake (little under done for me and some shell present). I've been coming to Hatteras Island for 7 years now and every time I make sure to visit Diamond Shoals. I especially love the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are incredible and passionate about their craft. The servers are the best on the island and I've never had an issue here. The food was amazing the tomato basil crab bisque and the oyster rockefeller was very filling and absolutely delicious. However, if you are calling to place a to go order good luck on getting the call to go through. I've ordered from this place 3 different times, well 1 1/2. The first time I ordered my food to show up and only receive half of it. While waiting I watched the hostess and waitress bad-mouth their customers. The second time I called for about 10 minutes and gave up. The third time I had my family in town, and again called for about 10 minutes to get slightly put on hold to listen to my hostess bad-mouth another customer. The price for the okay food and the unwelcome staff turned me away from this place. Which is a shame because there are multiple hotels and this is a popular fishing spot. read more
