So I wanted to start off that please do NOT come here if you are worried about the pandemic and covid. We came here thinking the tables would be socially distanced. We were seated in a booth next to a party of ten and another couple sitting in a booth right next to us. We asked to be moved and the waitress was very friendly about it. It was fully packed as well. We noticed most of the staff not wearing masks or not wearing it properly. I'm not sure how it is back in the kitchen but I noticed the sushi chef not wearing a mask. Called Risky Business for crabs. They didn't have any and said no one else would either. Called Diamond Shoals and they said they didn't have any but Surf's Up would...and they did. Went to Diamond Shoals the next day for dinner because I trust them. We had great mussels, clam chowder and fried clams. Have had better hush puppies at Quarterdeck. Diamond shoals came recommended to us by our fishing captain. He said they would prepare your fresh catch for you if you took it in. Sure enough. Took our fish in there(wahoo)and had it prepared. It was excellent. Came with 2 sides and hush puppies. Just what we were looking for. The rest of the menu looked pretty tasty too. We'll have to try it again next time. read more

Possible gas leak or haunting, can't be sure which. There appeared to be no system by which they assigned waiters to tables, so it took a legit 20 minutes for anyone to come take an order for drinks. They really didn't appear to be that busy. Short staffed, possibly, but only half of the tables were occupied. Our waitress sounded like she was incredibly high, or dimwitted. It could be both, but it definitely had to be one of those things. Ordered beers, 10 minutes later she brought water. Then 10 minutes later beer. Food arrived fairly quickly, and she sat the plates down and walked away immediately without asking if we wanted more beer. Food was really terrible. Blackened Tuna wasn't seasoned, or seared, or blackened, or cooked evenly. It was dry and cool and devoid of all flavor. Green beans were microwaved and floppy without any seasoning. Mashed potatoes were chunky and cold, had clearly been sitting on a tray for hours. Waitress returned as we were mostly done and asked if we needed drinks finally. I didn't even bother but my friend ordered a beer and it took another 20 minutes for the bartender to bring it over and ask if we needed a check. Waitress brought the check and this was the only time she really talked to us at all, but she could barely formulate a sentence. She just seemed out of it. She didn't appear to have any other tables she was waiting on, so she couldn't have been terrible busy. Just apathetic, or maybe huffing glue all day. Bad. Very bad food and service. read more

Went twice this week cause the broiled shrimp and the grilled fish were excellent. Can't go back though. Customers aren't wearing masks. Waiters have masks hanging from their ears and nobody's enforcing anything. Such a shame cause the food was great. Hope I don't have Covid and I was only a carry out customer . I ordered take-out. The classic hand patted 1/2 lb. cheeseburger was so juicy served with seasoned thick French fries and creamy cole slaw. The filet of grouper was grilled and topped with Parmesan cheese served with baked sweet potato and creamy cole slaw. Both meals were packaged with perfection so the different foods didn't mix. All toppings were carefully packaged. Our dinner was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We have been coming to Buxton for years, always eating here multiple times each trip. Love the food, always have. Last night we drove 40 minutes just to eat here. We showed up at 8:05pm (they close at 9) and we were told by the lady at the front that they weren't seating anyone else, the open sign was off and we should find somewhere else to eat. She said the kitchen was backed up and we would have to wait an hour, which was past their closing time. Sounds like she just wanted to go home. They lost our business and turned away a couple of other families as well when we were there. Totally unprofessional and very disappointing. We won't be back. read more

Stopped for lunch. Really really good fish bites! I think they should forewarn about the sweet potato fries coming with cinnamon on them, would have preferred salt. Kids cheeseburger was huge! Kids quesadilla was stuffed with cheese! Tropical Fish wrap was delicious. Sprite and root beer was not good, bad taste. Waitress was great with 4 separate tables/15 people. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. The seafood was fresh. We had the shrimp, scallops and soft shell crabs. Delicious and not over filling. The hush puppies were perfect. This is my first trip to the Outer Banks, and this restaurant was recommended to me by friends. For a group of 10 people it approximately took an hour to get our food, but other than that the service was great. The staff was very friendly, and my drink was always filled. Two years later and things keep getting better. The expanded sushi bar is great and the selections are amazing. All the traditional favorites are still tops too, I love the fried flounder and shrimp. I also try to get breakfast at least one early morning too, their coffee is great. I don't know what the flavor is but it has a pleasant aftertaste that is addictive. Ate there twice for dinner in less than a week. The mahi dinner was AH-mazing! Tender and fresh. The chowder rivals Boston...really good Also had shrimp and clams which were awesome. Simple decor but who cares..was there for terrific seafood and boy did they deliver. Loved our waiter..same guy twice. Beer was ice cold and refreshing and food was delicious. We loved this restaurant so much we ate here 2 days in a row! Everything was delicious and the spicy crab dip was our favorite!! The 1st night we had the platter and shared it and everything was perfect and the 2nd night we went with sushi and again perfect!! I placed a pick-up order for myself and fiancé that included shrimp, crab cakes, fries, and mashed potatoes. When I picked up the order, I was charged a dollar a piece for a 2 cups of ice with no water. When I returned home with my food, I discovered that the restaurant had not included plastic cutlery or napkins, and, being on vacation, had return to the restaurant simply to be able to eat the (overpriced for the OBX) food I paid for. Great family restaurant and a great spot for seafood. We just had their Sunday dinner special (on Easter no less), and although very busy, the service was courteous and smooth. We've eaten here a number of times over the years for all three meals and never been disappointed. It's beach casual in dress and style, so don't expect NY standards, but the food is good, the staff is nice and you won't go hungry! read more

Sushi was nasty and a total waste. Too much rice that makes it like paste when you eat it. We ended up throwing it out it was so gross.

We visited Diamond Shoals for the first time last night. We were very happy with the atmosphere, service, and the food! I had the broiled flounder, and it is the best I have ever had. It was cooked nice and moist how I like it. My husband had the stuffed grouper, and our daughter the fried flounder. The fish bites appetizer were also very good. Please do yourself a favor and check out Diamond Shoals Restaurant in Buxton. You will not be disappointed. They also have sushi on their menu, if you like sushi. I may be crazy, but it seems like Diamond Shoals has gotten better over the last few years. My last two meals (lunch and dinner) were in the off-season, but the meals were excellent. I've sampled the crabcake, scallops, shrimp and clam strips. Each was amazing. Best hush puppies on the island; you'd think they'd be easy to do but I've had more than a few sub-par hush puppies elsewhere. Green beans were fresh, not the Sysco canned mush that seems to be popular everywhere. And to top it off, great service. I'll be back! read more

Changing my rating....compared to all the other restaurants down here this one is 5 stars...you can substitute for the seafood platers other places down here will not let you....like if I don't like oysters I can have extra shrimp and no oysters......the grouper melts in your mouth....the captions plater and the mates plater are good.... read more
