I purchased a 1.03 carat H color VS2 diamond ring with a matching channel set diamond band from a local pawn shop. I contacted Elad at Diamonds Direct Raleigh via the Diamonds Direct website about coming in for an inspection of the diamond. After carefully unsetting the diamond and viewing with a microscope, he detected a small chip in the girdle of the diamond. Instead of having to get the diamond re-polished which would have taken more time than I had before I wanted to propose and have lost precious carat weight. Elad was able to exchange my diamond for a 1.00 carat H color SI1 diamond. He had it set within 4 weeks in a beautiful Sylvie ring- SY904. Elad was very fair in what I paid for this ring. Unfortunately, the diamond was improperly set by the onsite jeweler. There was a 2mm prong length discrepancy on two of the prongs...Elad and the vice president, Lev, went out of their way to get issue fixed very quickly and correctly for me despite the issue being beyond the skill set of the onsite jeweler. Elad sent the ring to an expert jeweler contact he had in New York. After receiving the ring back, he overnighted the ring to me via FedEx in Western NC in time for me to propose on Christmas. My now fiancé was very impressed with the ring. For this experience alone, I would give Elad and Diamonds Direct Raleigh 5/5 stars. As I mentioned, at the pawn shop I purchased a diamond band with the engagement ring. The ring set was soldered together. Diamonds Direct unsoldered the bands for me. Unfortunately, as the wedding band was channel set and original size 7, there was no way to size the ring to 5.25, my fiancé's ring size, without significant risk of losing diamonds in the long term. Elad was able to have a very similar, custom ring created using 3d design software that was able to use the 8 VS2 diamonds in my original wedding band. He then refined the design based on the feedback of my fiancé and myself. Wax cast of the original ring and updated design were provided before ordering the ring. The cost of this band was very competitive with similar bands sold by online retailers. However, this band was custom and much higher quality as it included the VS2 diamonds I had from the original band. My last purchase was a wedding band of similar style to my fiancé's wedding band. I was headed to Diamond's Direct to pick up the wedding band for my fiancé the day I ordered my band. Elad stayed behind for 5 minutes to briefly speak with me despite needing to head home to help his wife take care of their sick child. He got his colleague Prem to help my fiancé as she tried on her wedding band. Prem also assisted me as I ordered by wedding band. I selected RECF518516W from Benchmark. Prem ordered the ring for me. He matched the pricing I had found from an online competitor. I selected RECF78022SCC as the free ring that Benchmark offers all customers purchasing dress rings. In summary, Diamonds Direct Raleigh is likely the best "in-person" jewelry store in the Triangle Area-Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill. All pricing was extremely competitive. Pricing was better than every store I visited in the Triangle Area. Pricing was also in-line with online competitors. I advise buying in-person at Diamonds Direct Raleigh for the Diamonds Direct buying experience that includes complimentary cleaning, resizing, rhodium plating, etc. Also, every employee was incredibly thoughtful and genuinely cared about my diamond buying/ring buying experience. Even when I had the issue with the engagement ring, it was promptly taken care of by the Diamonds Direct. This would not have been the case with an online retailer. I went here back in September to get my finger sized for my engagement ring. Awesome experience, in and out with my correct size in 30 seconds. The dude knew what he was doing. Went back today to have my fiancé's finger sized. First we're told absolutely, we can do this! The consultant we were assigned to then proceeds to tell us that men's finger sizing is not reliable and she can't measure it without knowing the designer. (Wtf?) I asked why women's sizing is reliable but men's isn't, then she proceeds to tell me women's sizing isn't reliable either (then why does my engagement ring fit perfectly based on being sized last time I was here)? We fully plan on getting cheap wedding bands on Etsy. We really just needed his finger sized. She asks our budget. I ask what the cheapest they have is. She skirts around the question with a WELL IT DEPENDS, then starts lecturing us about cheap alternative metals and pulls out a bunch of ugly bands right at the top of our budget. Like I don't know I can get a gold band online easily for under $250. I tell her it's really just a placeholder, not that important to us, and she keeps reading off prices above our budget. Literally was not listening to me. Within 3 minutes my fiancé and I felt so unheard and condescended to that we walked out. Woman didn't say a word once I said we'd be going elsewhere. Honestly, wtf? Unfortunately we had an awful experience here. We came in to look at engagement rings and had an appointment. The store was packed (which was not comfortable thanks to Covid) and we were told to wait and someone would be with us shortly. 20 mins later a sales woman greets us but immediately excuses herself to deal with another customer. Another 20 mins goes by and she comes back noticeably flustered and blames her coworker for bothering her unnecessarily (which came off as very unprofessional) We start asking to see rings and asking for suggestions. She was not able to suggest anything based on what I told her I liked (which was not elaborate by any means) and told us it was all "a lot of the same". After finding a setting I liked she brought out diamonds. We told her our total budget was $8000. The diamonds on their own that she pulled were over our budget! At this point we are pretty irritated and start wrapping up. We left feeling extremely frustrated and having felt like we wasted 3 hours. No one ever followed up with us. We ended up going with another store and were able to get a prettier setting and a better diamond (1 carat, IF D color) for under $7000. So let's cut to the chase ... for all of the advertising about how cheap Diamonds Direct is, I was a little miffed to discover that their prices are absolutely nothing to text home about. Things they do well: the locked front door that you have to be buzzed in through creates an immediate air of importance; same with the rent-a-cop sitting next to the front door. They ply you with little foofy drinks that, presumably, are designed to help loosen the purse strings. They do have a substantial selection of mounts, and if your better half has been looking at rings in bridal magazines there's a good chance she'll recognize some of the designer's names there. And they'll fall all over you with service ... ... until they realize you know what you're talking about. When I went in I "played dumb" for a bit and let them tell me about cut and carat weight and such. And, as predicted, the first few loose stones they showed me were junk; extra facets, an unbalanced girdle, off-center cullet and so on. Sure enough - once I got them to show me a stone worth looking at, the price started to go up -- rapidly -- and was not even close to competitive. I ended up buying my chica's ring from a jeweler in New York and paid about half of what DD quoted me, and I didn't have to put up with this pompous silliness that tries to pass itself off as the greatest thing since sliced bread. As a sidenote: I worked in this industry some years ago, and I'm fairly attuned to the little tricks and games that most jewelry stores play. DD wasn't any worse than the others, but they certainly weren't better. read more

I had a fantastic experience buying an engagement ring for my fiance at Diamonds Direct Crabtree! I went with my fiance's sister and best friend, and we were immediately greeted very warmly. After a short wait, we met Tessa, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She walked us through all the basics of how to choose a diamond, and helped us narrow down the best options. When I wasn't fully convinced, she checked inventory from their other stores that fit my specifications, and was very helpful in giving us ideas on how to decide at a second visit. I never felt any bit of pressure to buy, and she was extra helpful in coordinating the shipping to California, where we live. When I tell you not to waste your time at any other jewelry store, I mean it. No place can offer the personalization, experience, or value of Diamonds Direct. I simply CANNOT say enough good things about our experience with Diamonds Direct Crabtree and specifically our salesgirl, Tessa. My gf (NOW fiancé) and I had been looking at rings for some time and had gone to many, many stores (including to my stepmom's jewelry store). I had good experiences at other places, but nothing compared to how we were treated, guided, and served at Diamonds Direct. From the moment you walk in your are greeted by smiling faces ready to help. Also, each time we went we were offered limitless amounts of champagne, mimosas, or bellinis as we made our way through the store and tried to make decisions. It really made the experience feel so special and just as exciting as something like that should me. Most importantly, Diamonds Direct has literally any and every ring you could ever want which is great but, for someone like me who had no idea what she truly wanted, I had the most amazing sales person in Tessa to guide me to my dream ring. Tessa listened patiently and carefully to all the things I thought I wanted and brought me a variety of rings to try on and talk about. I don't know how she did it, but she eventually got me close to something Ioved... but she could sense it wasn't "the dream." I asked if I could take a quick look around myself and while I did that she talked numbers with my girlfriend. I finally found and settled on the setting I knew I wanted for my dream ring, having already decided on a diamond shape and halo I loved. Tessa worked super hard to make sure it was exactly everything I wanted and sent out my wishes to a designer she trusted to create a CAD of my ring. After the CAD, I had a few more wishes, which she relayed to the designer, and just like that, my dream ring was designed. Tessa also worked within my fiancé's financial parameters to get us the most beautiful diamond I could ever dream of having. Tessa brought in several diamonds for us to look at and, when I found the one I wanted, she spoke with her manager to attempt to get it into a financial bracket that my fiancé was comfortable with (better, mind you, than my own stepmother who is the owner of a jewelry store could do). I was beyond words, and continue to be beyond words today every day I look down at my ring (my fiancé picked it up and surprised me with an engagement about one month after we selected the diamond). My boyfriend and I have been searching for an engagement ring. We have been to multiple stores including all the typical chains and local jewelry stores. We were excited to visit Diamonds Direct as we know they come highly recommended in NC. We set our appointment at 2pm and were helped immediately when we arrived. However that is where the positive part of our experience ended. When we met our consultant, he was friendly but has a very strong opinion on what we asked for which was a lab diamond due to our budget and beliefs. We were immediately lectured on why we shouldn't by a lab diamond despite that being our decision and we would be making a mistake. He then said that if we really wanted a lab or moisanite they could order it. After that our salesman pulled some settings for us based on some reference photos we had from visiting other stores. After pulling 3 settings he told us that was basically all they had in the style I wanted ( which was a solitaire with a twisted band)He then went to pull his "diamond guy" and completely abandoned us for another customer. We waited over 20 mins for the diamond seller to come over with pricing and yet again had to be lectured about our decision. He only showed us one lab diamond, out of our price range, then proceeded to only show us natural diamonds insisting that we place a deposit today and that he was doing us a favor with the price. I even asked to see another lab diamond in a .90 and he refused and instead showed us a lower quality natural diamond in that ct weight. When we asked for more time to think he just said that we needed to put down a refundable deposit and see it in sunlight. The whole ordeal took about an hour between waiting on him to pull more natural diamonds we didn't ask for and being lectured about why we needed to buy it today. We were so fortunate to finally escape when we saw the diamond in the sunlight outside and knew for a fact that we did not like it. The salesman at Diamonds Direct can be very pushy so if you are not looking to buy a natural diamond or what they want you to, I wouldn't recommend it. read more

We decided to upgrade my ring for our anniversary this year and we were so glad we chose Diamonds Direct at Crab tree! I didn't realize choosing a diamond can be such a pain in the ass... Like there are so many factors you have to consider about: clarity, cut, color, GIA certified or not, etc. It took about over 3-4 weeks for us to finalize our decision. We shopped at so many different stores and we loved Diamonds Direct the best because first of all, their customer service was amazing. We worked with Ray and he was so patient with us. I was being really picky because I wanted something good but we had our set budget. I was so impressed by his patience and he tried really hard to meet our expectation. I am writing this review after the experience that my wife and I had at Diamonds Direct in 2014-2015. 4+ years ago I purchased my wife's engagement ring from Diamonds Direct and a year later purchased her wedding band. We were happy with the customer service and the rings that we received were exactly what we wanted. I decided in March of 2014 to return to Diamonds Direct to surprise my wife and buy her the 2nd band to go with her current set. I regret ever making the phone call for the 2nd ring after the terrible experience that we have had with Diamonds Direct. In March 2014 I went into Diamonds Direct to drop off my wife's engagement ring and wedding ring (they were soldered at the time) so the rings could be sent to the designer for a matching band to be made. When I returned to the store I brought my wife and we quickly noticed that the new band did not match her original band in the slightest. The curve was different, different thickness of the band, and the diamonds did not line up with the originals. The customer service woman told us that the designer would have better luck matching the new band with the original band if we unsoldered the engagement and wedding band. We agreed to move forward this way, but mentioned that we were afraid to unsolder, as we did not want anything to happen to the original wedding band. We were promised that there is no way that could happen so we proceeded with the unsoldering. I returned to the store after a call saying the new band and original rings were back and ready to go. I picked up the rings, brought them home to my wife, and that is when she realized that her ORIGINAL band had been altered to look like the new band instead of the new band being changed to look like her original band. After my wife fought through tears we quickly drove to the store before it closed that day. I'm glad we took pictures because when we went back to the store and explained what happened we were told there was no way a mistake like that could happen. We showed the pictures of how the ring was altered and allowed the employee to make a call to the designer to ask if they had altered the original band. I found out the next day that they HAD altered the original band to look like the new band. My wife was beyond upset and I was furious as the Diamonds Direct customer service woman promised us that this could not happen. At this point we knew my wife had lost her original wedding back and that it would never be the same as it was the day she received it on her wedding day. I worked through the process with management at the store and we were told that a new band would be made using the diamonds from her original band. My wife chose the best design she could find in the store to replace her original band, but of course nothing will ever replace the original band. We did receive a refund for the original wedding band, but money does not make up for my wife losing her original wedding band. We had to return to the store 7 or 8 times before my wife was kind of satisfied with the ring she was receiving, but even when we left for the last time she was still not satisfied as the replacement ring could not make up for her original. The issue began in April 2014 and ended in May 2015. The management team was frustrating as we were told multiple times that my wife will probably want to upgrade her ring in 5-10 years anyway. My wife about lost it when this comment was made at least twice as we made it clear that these rings are an emotional attachment for her and she is not the kind of person that wants an expensive upgrade in 5-10 years. We left agitated, frustrated, and tired of Diamonds Direct. I honestly hope that no one else will ever have to go through this when they are just trying to surprise their wife for their wedding anniversary. My wife is now stuck with a ring she had to settle for, but we are glad to never have to work with this company again. read more

Unfortunately she and I did not continue and she returned the ring to me damaged - missing several small diamonds. Cindy and Lev were very understanding and helpful in repairing that ring. Again the Diamond Direct Crabtree team was very helpful, translating the value of the original ring in a way that some of the value could be captured for the new ring. Service: This review is for JODI S. She was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond time and time again for what I expected. This is the only time on Yelp I wish I can give more than 5 stars. I'm so thankful that we worked with her throughout this entire process. She was patient, kind, so friendly, and completely committed to getting us what we wanted in terms of the stone and design on time. We never felt pressured to purchase a certain ring. She could sense my hesitation in hearing about one of the pieces, and she encouraged me to shop further instead of buying it. She was honest regarding the flaws on that piece, so I knew I could trust her on what we purchased in the end. She was even available by text near the end of the process, sometimes going in during her days off to take pictures of settings for my design. I feel terrible about this since I didn't know it was her day off, didn't expect her to do this at all and in fact asked her to only respond on her working days. She is so dedicated and did this of her own volition. She is detail-oriented even to the type and thickness of prongs of my design. I would 100% recommend her to help shop for your ring. The design: Diamond Direct was the first store my fiancé and I shopped in. Though we visited other stores, Diamond Direct and Jodi provided the most flexibility and partnered with us the most to create something we love. After browsing, I had a specific idea of what I wanted my ring to look like. The problem was that Diamond Direct does not have this setting. We worked together to create my setting by combining and adjusting similar settings the store does have. Jodi sent me the CAD design file with measurements, making changes along the way. Jodi's hard work meant that the design was exactly what we wanted on the first try in making the ring. We were initially told the ring would take 4 weeks to make. But because we were on a time crunch, the ring was able to be made in about 2 weeks. There is also the option to remake the ring if we were not happy with the outcome. The cost: Diamond Direct respected our budget. We also shopped online and used comparison tools to make sure we were getting a good deal. It was a personal choice that we wanted to see the products in person instead of buying online. The cost of the custom setting is the same as that of an normal existing setting in other stores. My custom setting is just metal, no stones. Misc: Free lifetime resizing and plating included. Final product: We ended up with my dream ring, exactly how I pictured it. All i can say is customer service.....is terrible. My fiancé and i was looking for our wedding bands and looking forward some advice on what band style would go well with her ring. The lady was rude, kept looking at the clock and our people (almost felt like she didn't care that we were there), didn't try and conversation with us or even ask about our baby. As a person who is also in a costumer service heavy job, i expected more. We both found a ring we liked then she got real interested and tried to make us buy it right on the spot, even tho we told her that was the first place we even looked at. My husband and I purchased our wedding bands and engagement ring at Diamonds Direct. I have nothing negative to say. When I noticed a very obvious scratch on my diamond, that we did not notice when looking at it, they allowed us to bring it back in and choose a new one. We ended up picking an upgraded diamond, so just had a small fee to pay. They waved all other possible cost associated with changing out the original stone. Additionally I've had to resize my ring more than the normal person, and each time it was at no cost to us and arrived within the quoted time frame. Lastly, every time we go in there, we've never felt pressured into having to buy something, which is always nice. The staff understands how important these decisions are and allow you to take your time. I tell everyone when they ask to go to Diamonds Direct. We will be life long customers!!! read more

Today was our second time at Diamonds Direct Crabtree, and this time it gets a review. The first time we were ignored by our assigned salesperson for a good 30minutes before we decided to leave. Today we returned hoping to find good diamond pricing and maybe a better experience. We were approached by Raj, telling him the exact specifications of the diamond we were looking for, hoping he could show us maybe a few that were close and give us an idea of pricing. He returned with a single diamond with a higher clarity but also a lower inclusion rating. He said that they only had one diamond. We told him it looked nice and asked if we could see one to compare it to, even outside of our specs. "Well you've already looked at other diamonds somewhere else so compare it to that." He then asked our price range and said "well, this is it. It's in your price range." Pretty frustrated and flustered by the horrible service, we left. Thanks Raj, we'll be shopping elsewhere. Also, as a side note, the diamond price was not anything to rave about. We'll be going to CMI where they don't treat you horribly. read more

Our first and last time dealing with Diamonds Direct. Their radio ad is inconsistent with actually being in the store. Being greeted by someone was about the only thing that happened. We were not offered a complimentary beverage let alone a bottle of water. We were met by a sales women who did not educate us on the 4 C's of diamond shopping and had no imagination on creating a more dynamic look for the earrings I decided on. After waiting 6 weeks for my special order to come in to the store I was not notified. I had called 2 times to check the status and did not have my calls returned promptly. After spending several thousand dollars you'd expect more in return, like a thank you from your sales person or something. Not impressed and won't be a return customer. read more

I have to say, I've had nothing but very positive experiences with Diamonds Direct Crabtree. They advertise a lot - and I mean a lot - about how they own each step in the production process (mining, cutting, etc.) to remove the markups that traditionally get added to each of the middlemen. While I can't claim to be anything of an expert on jewelry valuation, I did a ton of research and price comparison for the engagement ring I purchased for my fiancee, and we definitely got a great deal. They weren't pushy about the price, and helped her try on a number of rings in every conceivable style, setting, etc., until she found the perfect one. Then they asked me what my budget was (hint: it was a lot lower than they were asking for). They ended up coming down a great deal, and though it was a little higher than I was planning to pay, I was very pleased with the cut and quality of the diamond (as was my fiancee!). Another huge perk is their add-ins. Every time we're in the area, my fiancee wants to stop by to take advantage of the lifetime of free ring cleanings. They also resize for free, and accept the full purchase price if you ever want to exchange for a bigger ring. Bottom line: Good prices, tremendous value, and great customer service (very friendly and respectful). And they give you free drinks while you're shopping (very important if you're a little nervous about shelling out what for you is a sizeable chunk of money). All in all, a very good place to shop for jewelry. Update: I have since gone back and had very similar experiences buying additional gifts. read more

I've done a lot of jewelry shopping in the past year, and nothing compares to Diamonds Direct. There are two things I noticed immediately in the store: the diamonds are extremely shiny and the service is exceptional. They have great quality GIA certified diamonds and their cleaning process is excellent because my fiancée's ring is always more noticeably shinier after getting it cleaned here than other jewelry stores. They have a great selection of engagement rings here, much more than many of the other jewelry stores in the mall. Their plethora of stones and settings gives you so many options to build the perfect ring. The customer service at Diamonds Direct is phenomenal. You're immediately greeted and paired with a sales associate to help you pick out your jewelry. I've worked with Jodi and Laura and both were so helpful. They do a great job educating you about diamonds and helping you pick out a diamond within in your budget. I felt really comfortable with my diamond choice, and they were very respectful about my budget. There was an issue when out he wedding band we ordered didn't match the ring because the wrong style was ordered, but they took care of it right away and gave us great price. My husband bought me a diamond & emerald ring for our 20th anniversary. Unfortunately, because of the design we have had problems with losing stones and some breaking/cracking - it happens. Most importantly, the manager Lev has assisted us during every step and has treated us amazingly well. We are pretty good customers of Diamonds Direct but he has treated us like royalty and has been singularly focused on our happiness. All right, so here's the promised update: Backstory: I had bought a pair of diamond stud earrings for my mom as a combined Christmas and birthday present. Well, she loved how they sparkled, but she was so afraid of losing them when she combed her hair or slept (she sleeps in all her jewelry). So, she asked if we could exchange them for a diamond pendant instead. Main story: So I emailed Teri again and told him what my mom wanted (she had very particular requirements for her diamond). Teri sorted through their inventory and emailed me a few specs that fit into the requirements and budget. When I came in to look at them, he also mentioned that a shipment would be arriving the next day and that I could come back in and we'd look at more stones. I did just that and found a beautiful diamond that my mom would love! After a few days, the stone was set and I came to pick it up. When I brought it home, I noticed that there was an inclusion on the edge of the diamond that could easily be hidden under a prong. I'm not sure why the jeweler didn't automatically try to hide it under a prong when s/he was setting it, but I couldn't "unsee" it now that I noticed it. So...back into DD I went. They re-set the diamond without any hassle and it's absolutely perfect now. My mom has yet to see the finished result, but I am sure that she'll love it. Everyone has been very professional, helpful, and friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone who's in the market for a diamond! read more
