Cloth diapers are better for the earth, so it was the way we wanted to go when our son was born. I looked around the NYC area for a diaper service. I was happy when I found Diaperkind. At the time there where not any reviews, but I reached out to the owners, and they filled me in on their business. I went with the assumption that no review was better than a bad review. I have been so happy with my choice! I signed up for the service prior to the birth of our son. I was able to get gift certificates as shower gifts. Our son was born prematurely, and Diaperkind was so understanding and helpful. They have tiny cloth diapers for tiny babies! This is a great service that makes my life a lot easier and lets me experiment with cloth diapers. I live on a fifth floor walk-up and I am so relieved to have this pickup/dropoff service instead of me having to lug all these diapers to the laundromat (along with a baby attached to my chest). I purchased the starter set and think everything in it is useful, even if I ended up not liking some of the diaper covers (you don't know until you try). LOVE them! I was determined to cloth diaper for the environment and baby health, but knew that dealing with our first child with no family support would be exhausting. This has been the perfect solution. Never diaper rash, the bin doesn't smell and the diapers work just dandy. Note that they make baby have a fat bum, so go up a clothing size. We just finished 21 months of Diaperkind service as our daughter is now potty trained. We cannot say enough good things about Diaperkind and cloth diapering. Their customer service was top notch and super responsive. Delivery was always as promised, and the one time there was a problem, there was an e-mail in our inbox alerting us to the hiccup and how it was going to be rectified. The quality of the diapers was great, the cloth wipes were a good add-on, and the diaper liners were good to use as well. The times we would use a disposable, we noticed that a rash or irritation was more likely. We are ending our three years of cloth diapering and I wanted to share our experiences. With the help of Diaperkind I found cloth diapering easy - I just watched the suggested videos before my son was born to get me started. I used DKs recommended products including diaper pail (which has remained smell free), doublers and various lotions and potions. With the incredibly reliable weekly pick-up/drop-off right up the stairs of my third floor walk up I think I actually did less work than I would have if I'd used disposables. I'm on my second baby in cloth diapers and my experience both times with Diaper Kind has been really great. With our first baby we used the delivery service which was perfect for us at that time, and now with baby 2 I'm washing diapers at home because it made more sense for us. With this baby I wanted to be able to use the cloth diapers about 85% of the time and be able to use disposables when I felt I needed to. The ladies at Diaper Kind made it exceptionally easy to get our house set up to home launder. The shop they have in their space is so great, and they are so helpful and resourceful. The cloth diapering 101 class they have is so so thorough and after it i literally felt 100% ready to home launder. We used Diaperkind for two years and couldn't have been happier with them. Sarah, Liz and everyone we dealt with were very pleasant, helpful, candid, and transparent, especially in the pre-sales process when we talked to them the most. I particularly appreciated the detailed discussion comparing costs among a cloth diaper service, biodegradables, more expensive disposables, cheaper disposables, and self-washing. It's clear that they've been through the wars and are genuinely most interested in helping you to find what works best for your family. They run their business in a really smart and sensible way and know what they're talking about. The class was worth it. The instructions and recommendations are helpful and clear. The product recommendations are very well informed and balanced (just about everything they sell is also available through other online retailers). The diapers are always clean and fresh. The pickups/dropoffs are reliable. Changes are communicated clearly and managed well. Questions are answered promptly and thoroughly. The rules are sensible and enforced in a reasonable way. We didn't have any problems with sizes, rashes, odors, storage, etc. We didn't have any trouble with the "added work" of cloth even in the first days after coming home from the hospital when our brains were functioning "less than optimally"...it didn't make a challenging time harder. The one area where we did have to adapt was when my daughter got to about six months we did need to start using a disposable diaper for overnight because the cloth diapers were simply over-matched, even with the doubler. We were OK with this compromise for ~7 diapers per week. As for cloth diapering in general, we did it to keep thousands of diapers out of landfills. There's is an increased dollar cost to this and for us it was worth it. As your baby gets older and uses fewer diapers each day, the cost-benefit does shift further out of your favor. In practice we used a hybrid approach. Cloth by default (~80-90% of the diapers) and disposables on the rare occasions that we traveled to minimize the amount of time we had carry/store dirty diapers (eg, while spending a week with the grandparents). In summary, we would do it over again and would highly recommend Diaperkind to anyone considering cloth diapering. read more

We started using Diaperkind the week our boy/girl twins arrived home from the hospital and kept up the weekly service until they were nearly potty trained at 20 months. We chose to do cloth wipes and prefold diapers, so the only laundering we had to do ourselves were the diaper covers. It's been such a great service for us. As an expectant mother, I was interested in doing cloth diapering for eco-friendly reasons, but wasn't sure how to get started. We started using Diaperkind after seeing an "Introduction to Cloth Diapering" presentation by Liz at Caribou Baby in Greenpoint. Liz made cloth diapering seem easy, matter-of-fact, and so not a big deal that I was instantly convinced we would do it. We started out with their delivery service for the first three months after baby's arrival, and found them so helpful, flexible, and encouraging. Once we forgot to put our diapers out for the driver to collect, and the driver called up to apartment to remind us, saying we were regulars and he knew we had just forgotten. So even the drivers are invested in their customers' well-being! We have since moved out of the area and started laundering at home, but have continued to use Diaperkind for our supplies and good advice. I feel so lucky to live in Diaperkind's service area. We have used their cloth diaper service for 4 months (since our son was born) and are now moving out of the area. They e-mail us every week with a reminder to get our diapers out for exchange night, update with tips as our baby gets older, answer all questions promptly and with courtesy, and provide easy backup plans if for some reason we missed our pick-up time. Every week our diapers were returned in beautiful condition no matter what we threw in the pail. We now have to find another service in our area or home launder, but neither option seems as easy as Diaperkind. I highly recommend this service to anyone considering cloth diapers.
