We had a freezer stop working under warranty. They came out at least five times, it would work for a bit and then stop again. We threw away food 3 times. After several calls to their service department I quickly learned that "we will call you back" meant I better call them back because they never once actually followed up with a call back. read more

We rarely buy on the first visit but we have had good experience in the past. The delivery could not have gone any better Matt and Willie were very friendly and careful. I've had a miserable time with my Kitchen Aid dishwasher I purchased at DVDyke. It's brand new and I paid for their installers who shoved and beat it around trying to get it installed. At one point they whispered that something was broken, but when I questioned them they assured me that's not what they said. Fast forward 2 months and it wouldn't run because sensors were showing a leak. They replaced all the sensors because they couldn't identify the leak. Fast forward 2 more months to October 1st and my entire kitchen rug was soaked from the dishwasher . When their repairman came and pulled the dishwasher out, I watched as water pulsed out of the top right side as it cycled. The piece was missing. No surprise there. They've been back 3x to fix this issue and are coming once more to finish it up. Customer service is always polite with their words but take absolutely no ownership for the shoddy installation job or the amount of time or trips it's taken to bring correct parts. I asked yesterday to speak to the manager and they wouldn't let me. The customer service rep said "we've already decided that this is how you'll need to proceed if you want to". For me, that spoke volumes.....They've taken no responsibility for the poor installation or the damage to the wood molding around the cabinets. Today is October 30th and yesterday they said for me to call Whirlpool and see if they could do something, that there was nothing else they could do. So beware. Their service contract sounds wonderful but that's not been my experience. My suggestion is don't buy anything from DVDyke Appliance. I've not found them to be reputable. If you're looking for a good appliance buying experience, go somewhere else. Purchased a dishwasher on Jan 2, not in stock... Came in by the 11th for a planned install date of the 15th. Waited all day to be contacted to be rescheduled.... Installer called in. Next scheduled date, waited all day to be contacted to be rescheduled.... Delivery truck got stuck and needed towed. Next scheduled date, waited all day and told they were coming multiple times. Apparently they arrived at my house and the 6" of snow in my driveway spooked them enough to cancel the delivery. My Nissan Sentra did just fine all day long. They never even came to the door and didn't answer the phone when I tried to call them. Again waited all day to be contacted to be rescheduled. At this point, I have not picked up for 3 extra shifts at work resulting in the lost earning potential of over 3K. I can't afford to do business with a company that can't keep its commitments and has zero respect for my lost time and wages. "When you buy from us, you get the whole store".... We just can't seem to be able to deliver the appliance. I can only imagine the frustration and nightmare that service or warranty work would be... I got a full refund by Jan 30th... Just got my new Amana Range today. The sales guy was just fine but the delivery was a bit sketchy. The delivery guys didn't bring the correct tools to do the install. They only came with 2 crescent wrenches. So they weren't able to install the correct gas line. I complained and they said that I could get a plumber to come fix it, or they could put the wrong gas line and made me sign a waver so if something goes wrong they won't be held liable. The delivery guy was fine but his supervisor was a real SOB. They sent out delivery guys without the proper tools and it was my fault and it would cost me another $50 to get them to come back out to do it right. I started out the day with a range that worked and they wanted to leave me without a range unless I agreed to let them put the wrong gas line on or me have no stove. BEWARE.... When you purchase new appliances you expect for them to last longer than 10 months. After 10 months our new dryer started having issues along with the washing machine never being balanced and every time they were out it never got fixed. After 10 mechanical repairs they refused to replace the dryer and the warranty was only good for 1 year. 4 months later the washing machine goes out and they said it will be 1400 . To repair it at our cost. Before the warranty was up we had issues and they refused to make good on realizing the units were bad. Contacting Electrolux they told me the units were built in 2020 and sold new in 2024 and that the store should have contacted Electrolux directly to for the repairs and to send a new machine. Dick Van Dyke did not do that and refused to make good on the dryer they sold us. Never again will I purchase anything from Dick Van Dyke absolutely horrible. They do not back up what they advertise. They do sell you appliances that are made to last 1 year. read more

I use this store for appliances because 1) Appliances are not as well=made as I'd like, and 2) they stand behind my purchase for five years. I purchased a GE dishwasher. The wheels on the bottom rack kept falling off. Their appliance tech researched, found this was a know problem, ordered an upgrade kit, and installed it. It's been fine for a month now. What I like is 1) I'm busy;; 2) I fear if I bought a big-box dish washer, I'd be caught in a run-around with the store, the installer, the manufacturer; and 3) I'm not sure any big-box warranty is five years. What I like about DVD is that there is one place to go for _any_ after purchase issues. They fix stuff and yes you have to wait a bit for their tech, but Its one place to deal with for all aspects of a purchase, and they have stood by everything I've bought from them. read more

We recently had an issue with our dryer not heating properly. Technician Jeremiah was just here and was so thoughtful and thorough in working on the problem. He is hopeful that the issue is resolved but is going to preemptively order another part incase the repair today was not the root of the problem. Needing to replace w/d and stove/fridge in condo had just purchased we went to DVD as had fairly good service previously however that was prob due to brand of appliance and before Mr. Van Dyke sold store and retired. Purchased GE stove/fridge - stove came damaged took about 6 mos to get new part. called to ask and person said oh, I think this must be your part we have had....; as to fridge, notified them within about 4 weeks food in fridge freezing. A repair? person came out, final statement was 'well don;t use top shelf" why would you have a fridge and not be able to use entire unit?? Food kept freezing on top shelf, then on next shelf, in crisper drawers, deli drawer - you get the pix. notified GE, that was a waste of time. NO service nor replacement of unit - told GE would never buy GE again, did not seem to care; DVD ads say 10 year warranty, do not believe it; neither DVD nor GE would stand behind even the 1 year manufacture's warranty. They installed new microwave over stove - even asked when they were installing if what they were doing would hold the unit; of course, assured it would. Two weeks later at midnight, microwave crashed to top of stove; reading the install instructions next morning unit was NOT installed correctly for type of cabinet we have. Early on we tried Better Business Bureau - yep, Business not consumer. NEVER EVER WOULD GE OR DVD GET RECOMMENDATIONS FROM US. I have a Kenmore refrigerator that keeps cycling. Called out in Feb of 23. They said it was a bad damper, and that it would take a while to get the part. By October of 23, I ordered the part and got it in a couple of weeks. Replaced it myself, and the problem is still there. They called in November of 23 saying that they had the part. Told them that I had already ordered the part they said was bad, and it didn't fix it. They didn't seem to care. Had a friend work for them for approx. a week, and they fired her because she wasn't learning fast enough. She said they don't have a clue of what they are doing, and forget to reply to customers all the time. Dick Van Dyke sucks. read more

I am so frustrated with the customer service from the service repair center. We had a fridge delivered on 11/15 & had a repair technician come a couple of days later because the fridge was not making ice. The technician said there is an irreparable broken wire & that we would need a replacement fridge. I got a phone call just before Thanksgiving that the store was on the case & would call with updates. This was the last time they would ever initiate contact. 12/11- I call for an update & they say they've emailed Whirpool to get a case number. 12/26- I call for an update & they say they have no clue what's going on & will talk to a supervisor & call me back in the afternoon. No call comes. 1/2- I call in the morning & am again told essentially "I don't know, let me talk to a supervisor & call you back." No call comes & I call again at 4 PM only to be told again "I'll call you back." No call comes. My husband calls at 6:30 PM only for sales to tell him that service closed at 5. I paid full price for a fridge that was broken at delivery & I still do not have a replacement product after a month & a half. read more

Beware of promises that they can't keep. I was told that i could have a gas stove delivered and installed in two weeks. Well, it's been 7 weeks and no stove. I received an 3 electronic bot messages about install only to find out the stove didn't arrive. Also, my salesman gave me a runaround that the stove was sent back by mistake and will take another 2 more weeks to get it in. I just tired of being told that it will be another 10 days before it comes in. I canceled my order and went to another appliance store. My washing machine, which I did not purchase at Dick Van Dyke, stopped working. It would fill but would not spin or drain. To begin with, I was given a date and time, but did not receive a text with the time frame given. When I called the store, I was told that I was not scheduled for that date but for the following week. I told them I expected them out there on that day and that I would take my business elsewhere if they didn't correct their mistake. The tech came out and diagnosed a bad motor on my washing machine. Two weeks later, the same tech shows up with a new motor, only for the same problem to occur. He said that he was afraid that it may have been a bad capacitor rather a bad motor but he didn't order a new capacitor because it tested fine on a volt meter. He said that he wasn't sure how long it would take to get a new capacitor in because it wasn't a common capacitor. Turns out, after a little searching on Google, the capacitor is a common capacitor, it is just the part number changed. I will never call Dick Van Dyke again because the tech's diagnosis went for the most expensive fix rather than seeing if it was the less expensive fix. read more

We are on Day 13 and Dick Van Dyke Appliance World cannot tell us if they have even ORDERED the fan to repair our broken refrigerator. We have made phone calls to the Dick Van Dyke parts department and service department in Bloomington on Day 1, Day 4, Day 5, Day 8, and Day 12. They have never once called us back, although always promising they would. On various calls, the parts or service department has told us conflicting stories that 1) they couldn't find a record of the service call that we had paid for, 2) the part was ordered, 3) the part was shipped, and, finally, 4) that they couldn't find a record of the part being ordered. At this point, on Day 13, there is no confirmation that the part has been ordered. Avoid this clusterf*ck of a service department at all costs. read more

I very rarely leave feedback but, in this case, I really want to make other aware of what they can expect from DVD after they pay for their appliances. It's a long post, but I can't make this stuff up. I did the same as CJ G (posted 11/4/22) and open an account just for the same reason We order nearly $30,000 worth of appliances from DVD. Our salesman was actually really helpful, and we were pretty excited with the service we experienced. Then we wrote the check. After that point, it was absolutely terrible. Below is why: We scheduled the installation a week before. No one showed up. No one called. It was scheduled for 9 AM. I called at 3 PM, and we weren't even on the books??? Even though there was confirmation sent out. We had some tight deadlines, and it was critical to make that install date work. After maybe 3-4 phone calls, and them telling me they would have to call me back, they finally scheduled it 5 days after we were originally scheduled. I told them the exact cost that it cost me because of their mistake and ask for something to offset that cost. They didn't feel like they needed to do anything. After talking to the store manager, they gave us $200 off the installation. I was more than happy with that. Upon further examination of the installation quote there was over $175 of extra stuff. There was no description on what these services were. I called and asked what the charges were for, and they said they messed up and would remove them. CHECK YOUR INSTALLATION QUOTES! The contractor needed to keep moving to stay on schedule, so they installed everything except the refrigerator. DVD wanted payment for the installation up front. I told them they just have to do the refrigerator, which they were happy about. They told me the price, and I asked where the $200 discount went. They told me they couldn't do that on just on appliance. So, they really didn't care about not showing up in the first place. INSTALLATION DATE Once DVD arrived, they wanted to take the refrigerator through the front door. Because of the flooring both our contractor and the tile crew on-site, advised against it. The other option was through the sliding doors (which was wider but on the other side of the house....it would have been more work. Immediately they said they couldn't because it was unsafe???? So, the contractor said he would get the refrigerator into the house, and then DVD could install it right after it was in the house. During the time that the contractor's crew was moving the refrigerator into the house, DVD's trucks started to pull out of the driveway. I stopped the driver and asked what he was doing. He said it was unsafe and wouldn't do the job. I told him that we all agreed the contractor was going to get the refrigerator into the house. He didn't care and said he got clearance to leave and not do the installation. I called the store and asked why they left. Lee told me that the contractor said to leave. I told him that we have cameras all around the house (one happened to be where both the contractor and DVD's crew was). I was there too and never heard our contractor saying anything about DVD leaving. The 7 other people that were there agreed. I told Lee, I'd be happy to send the camera footage with the audio to him for him to review himself. He told me that their guys were videotaping as well and didn't need it. This was a complete lie based on the footage. For some reason Lee wouldn't believe me. I also told him that the driver told me a completely different story as to why they left. I have purchased from Sherman's, and Lowes in the past. I wanted to give DVD a try to see what they offer. It was a huge mistake. Prices are just as good at the other two stores. I felt like we were going to get good service, and that wasn't the case. IF YOU ARE AT ALL CONSIDERING BUYING FROM DVD, I WOULD STRONGERLY STEER YOU ANYWHERE ELSE. SHERMANS OFFERS MOST OF THE SAME STUFF FOR A REALLY CLOSE PRICE. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SERVICE AS BAD AS DVD. THEY REALLY DON'T CARE AFTER THE CHECK CLEARS. DO NOT USE DICK VAN DYKE! We were new to the area and we purchased Speed Queen Washer/Dryer in June of 2018 from this store. On 1/08/19, the dryer stopped heating. I left a voicemail message, no call back. I called on 1/09/19 three times, same outcome. I called 1/10/19, spoke with someone, and they advised they would call me back. No call back. 1/12/19, they were closed due to snow. Finally got someone on 1/14, they pulled up my information, saw that we had Speed Queens, and they scheduled an appointment for a repair for the 16th...not too bad, right? Wrong - they came out and said they didn't have the part for the make/model and would need to order...how they didn't know the make/model prior to coming out, your guess is as good as mine. I had to call back on 1/21 to ask if the part came in...yes it did...they would be out 1/24....just got a call from them, they ordered the wrong part and wouldn't be able to come out until 1/29...still not fixed. Being new to the area, I've shared this with co-workers - they all said this is normal. Horrible. read more

I purchased a washer. Was told for x dollars I would get a warranty covering the washer. Washer breaks two months outside of manufacture warranty. Call DVD store tells me one thing is covered. Tech shows up tells me another thing is covered. Tech was here Monday at 9:00am. It's now Wednesday at 3:00pm and still haven't received quote for the price of repair. Call the store push option for repair sit on hold for 3 minutes get no response. Call back and push option for sales someone immediately answers and transfers me to same line where nobody answers. Call back ask for a manager. Guy says he's the sales manager but knows absolutely nothing and is zero help. Transfers me to someone in charge of customer service. They inform me that they can't quote me the price or any details only the tech who was here can do it and they can't get a hold of him but will have him call me. I basically wasted the money on the extended warranty bc it was sold under misleading details. I can't get my diagnostic fee back because they claimed he did his job, which he didn't since the quote to repair is part of the diagnostic fee. So I'll just be sitting here waiting for who knows how long to hear who knows what. They wonder why chains are dying, this is why. read more

Our less than two year old drier decided to spring a continuous water leak through steam injector. Wife called DVDA while I shut water off. Since it was MLK day, no service techs were available, but she was assured we would receive a call the next day to schedule a visit. We didn't. Had to call them. We were scheduled at the end of their day (and ours.) Meanwhile I researched problem and found we needed a water valve. Wife called and told them no need to visit if they didn't have a replacement valve. He came anyway, and without looking at anything, just with my explanation, said we needed a water valve. No kidding. Can't make this up. He said 3 to 5 business days. Before he could back out of driveway, I asked if he could put a garden hose shut-off valve in temporarily. He said no. I found one in my garage and showed him it as he continued to back out. He was of little help. I called DVDA while installing my shut-off valve. I was put on hold for 15 minutes while she got report from service tech. Returned to phone and said I had no right to raise my voice to service tech. She refused to let me talk to a service manager or supervisor, and continued to talk over me, not letting me finish saying anything, and repeating continuously that I needed a water valve. No kidding Sherlock! The more I tried to explain, the louder she talked over me. I raised my voice hoping she would understand the simple fix I requested. She said she would terminate the call if I continued to talk louder. I may be slow, but I eventually realized she had no interest in helping me as a customer. So I hung up. Meanwhile my garden hose shut-off valve has us washing and drying clothes. I wonder how many other customers who have less mechanical knowledge have been left stranded? My recommendation is to avoid Dick Van Dyke Appliance. For me, I've received much better and faster service with every "big box" store. And much more competent service. DVDA reminds me of those old 20th century used car sales - good with words, devoid of decency and competency. They have little customer appreciation. UPDATE: 8 working days after the initial call, the part has been replaced. Don't know if it works because service tech didn't test it. Then he left out a screw and smashed the vent hose down to less than half the original size. I know he didn't test it because he didn't take off the $2 valve that I added so we wouldn't be without a washer and drier for 2 weeks. This is the temporary fix they couldn't understand. It was easier for them to leave us without a washer and drier than to give me chance to explain a temporary fix. You can see the valve and the smashed hose in the photo. And now I just spoke with DVD service again. They won't be able to get back to fix the situation for another 4 days. Oh how I regret ever spending nearly $3000 with DVD. Service tech said it needed a whole new assembly and estimated $336 for repair/replacement. Charged us $59 for this diagnosis. I went to Parts Depot and ordered the part for $30. I bought a complete new set of kitchen appliances from DVD about a year ago. I have had several repairs since that time on the dish washer and refrigerator. None were major and were completed within a few weeks. Not promptly, but not exceedingly delayed either, until the microwave broke down. It took a week to get a repair person out to look at it and he said it would be a couple weeks to get a part. At the one month mark, I called again to see what was holding things up. I was told that it would be another two months till they got parts. This would leave me without a microwave for a total of 3 months. DVD would offer no solution except wait the 2 more months (3 total) till they could locate a part. They would not give me a loaner or trade the unit for another unit or take the part off another machine in stock to get me going. I certainly will not be buying anything from DVD in the future. They were supposed to call when the part arrived for my washer. No call. I called, they ordered the wrong part. Reordered the part. No call. I had to call. Talked to a rude, unhelpful customer representative. 1st appointment was 2 weeks out. Unacceptable. They already delayed in ordering the wrong part and not calling when the part was in. She then said I can schedule you in 1 week. So, she initially lied. Every encounter with them has been terrible. The 1 1/2 star overall rating is no accident. Will never buy from this company again. Ordered a new fridge in October 2018 and it was delivered with dented doors. Company also scratched our wood flooring by rolling the fridge with the feet down. Delivery men were oblivious to weather conditions and tracked mud into our home. January 2019 and we're still awaiting new fridge doors and have been lied to multiple times on their whereabouts. We were scheduled to have our dishwasher fixed today (warranty work from my 5/17/2013 post). The tech came out 5/19 and said he'd order the part. He was back a week later but realized another part of the dishwasher had to be replaced. I guess whoever orders parts didn't look in the catalog to make sure they were getting everything they needed for this job. When the appointment was made, last week some time, the guy on the phone said someone would call in the morning with a 3 hour window (note, no one said that the last two times the tech came as no one called in the morning). No call received this morning. Called their office at 5:05pm and got an answering machine. So I guess I don't know when the warranty work is going to get done on this dishwasher. Another day spent at home. Another day with a not quite right dishwasher. Kind of not the experience I keep hearing about on the radio. Don't forget to look below at the filtered responses. Update 6/12/2013: called a little after 10a because no one had returned my call from the message I left last night. Our dishwasher wasn't draining properly and had them come out and he said he fixed it and it did it again and called them again. Magically it was out of the 30 days even though they said it had a 1 year warranty. Fixed that again and it wasn't drying after that. I called them back and they said that wasn't why we called in the first time so it was going to cost again. I called another place and all it was he didn't reset the drying cycle when he replaced the drain pump which is a safety feature when the drain pump goes out the heater circuit will kick read more

From the time the call was placed to the time the repair was made was 13 days. One day can be subtracted, as I chose the second available day for the repair guy instead of the first. A part that was ordered incorrectly was supposedly the problem (acceptable). No follow up phone calls explaining the situation (unacceptable). A two day delay for customer service to return call (unacceptable). For my trouble, the folks at DVD gave me a very generous 20% of the cost of my parts! (That's $15 off $72 for two parts that cost less than $25 on Amazon). I must add that the repair guy was very professional and efficient. No complain there. Although $97.50 seems a bit high for 25 minutes of work, it appears to be in line with the going rate. Needless to say, DVD won't be using me for their "This is a true story and happened right here in Bloomington-Normal" radio ads. Oh yeah, a couple more things about their print and radio ads. The first is, a 24 hour response doesn't really mean 24 hours -- at least in my case (the last two times we've called for service have been 48 hours and 29 hours). Secondly, unlike "Chicago Metropolitan Area", which means Rosemont, Calumet City, and Waukegan, "Bloomington-Normal Metro Area" does NOT mean anywhere other than Bloomington and Normal (why even say metro?). Despite the fact that I can drive from DVD on Clearwater Drive to my driveway in 11 minutes, since I don't live in the Bloomington or Nomal city limits, I don't get the "Home of the $25 service call!" rate. They charge me double. read more
