READ THIS before going to Dickey's in Kapolei. Been looking forward to Dickey's, having been to their mainland stores many times. We ordered the Family Pack online with a gallon jug of sweet tea. Went to pickup our order. There were three other people to pickup orders, not particularly busy. The cashier asked for my order information, she starts to look for my order but gets distracted with helping another customer. So I'm standing waiting for someone to help, girl behind the counter asks for my order information with some attitude, she passes it on to another guy behind the counter who's already helping a another customer. So I'm patiently waiting, standing around for several minutes, until another girl appears from behind the counter to finally help me with my order (the 3rd person). She starts filling these large drink cups with iced tea, so I ask her if they are for my order, she says "yes", and I'm like "where's the gallon jug of iced" like the picture on the menu? She goes back to the kitchen asking other staff if there's still gallon jugs of the iced tea left. This is where it gets weird, she comes back with a large plastic bottle and immediately puts on couple Dickey's stickers to cover the label on the bottle. I see what looks like bbq sauce stains in the bottle, so I ask her if the bottle was used for bbq sauce and she replies, "no it had iced tea in it". I ask to see the bottle and peel the stacker back, revealing the bbq sauce label. Now I'm a pretty calm and reasonable person, but covering up and lying to a customer is inexcusable. She tells the bottle had been washed, but how do I know, I did not pay for bbq flavored iced tea. Plus standing around going through 3 employees until having my order acknowledged and being dumb enough to pre-pay an extra $6 for the iced tea, just made for a BAD EXPERIENCE for our Friday night dinner order. Since I prepaid for my order I didn't want to go through the hassle for a refund on the $6 tea, so I agreed to take the cups of iced tea instead. So I start filling the cups and the dispenser runs out of the sweetened iced tea. A helpful guy employee comes out of the kitchen with a small container and whisk offering to mix some unsweetened tea with sugar (that was comical, are you kidding me). I ended up filling the rest of the cups with soda, he gave me couple extra cups to fill, for all the trouble. On top of that they ran out of cup carriers for my 6 large drinks, didn't even have a small box so an employee had to go out to their storage room in another part of the building to get the cup carriers. All said and done it took over 30 minutes from the time I arrived until we left with our order. Oh and btw, as for the food it was meh.... for the $62 price of the meal, the brisket was on the dry side but had decent smoke flavor, and the pulled pork was moist but lacked the smoke. Based on the dysfunctional staff and the iced tea fiasco, I'll be taking my business elsewhere and won't be going back to Dickey's. read more

So disappointed. Never see the same people, so I assume they high turnover. Waited in line for 15 minutes and when I was next in line, out of brisket sign is taped up. Out of ribs, out of brisket and ice. Had to wait almost 10 minutes after I paid for them to find a bag to put my order in. Manager running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to get ish done. Filling ice bucket, getting orders out, restocking bags. Don't ever come to this place if you're gonna want good customer service. The manager seems cool but doesn't even seem like he should be running this store. I dropped half of my plate of meat. And me and my other half nicely asked to buy another plate. Now you figure it will be discounted or even free. No. They took back the 1 pound of meats and offered a new one. Around $16-17. And guess what? Full price or even more for the meat prices. Figured each meat we bought was $6-7 it should be well below $16. Hell no am I paying $17 for 1 pound of meat and they took back my other half pound that was good. If I knew I was paying FULL price for my meats why even grab my meats that was good? Unreal. The workers look at me like I was crazy? Sorry I know way more top restaurants and areas that will politely discount the food price or even replace for free. read more

So disappointed. Was excited to have a BBQ place in Kapolei but after the first experience I won't be back. Workers have attitude and food was mediocre. Brisket was just OK. The first time I went to Dickies is when they opened. Food was mediocre and over priced. I thought, well I tried it, probably won't be back. Then recently they were on a news segment and the food looked soooo good, thought I'd give it another shot. I ordered the recommended plate-- 3 meat. Had the brisket, pulled pork and jalapeño sausage with Mac and cheese and ocra. When I got home and opened the plate, they had gotten the order wrong. It was written correctly on the box but the content was wrong. They put ribs instead of pulled pork, the one I was looking forward to. At that point I wasn't about to go back to have it corrected, and just dealt with it. This is when it gets bad. The brisket I got was the burnt crusty overcooked edges of the brisket, not the juicy slices I just saw on the news. Don't get me wrong, I like the crusty part of the brisket, but this MF was almost charcoal. I tried drowning it with sauce to hide the burnt taste, it didn't work. The sausage was so salty I could only eat 2 pieces. The ribs, funny thing, the one that I didn't want, turned out to be the best thing . It wasn't fall of the bone as advertised but it was pretty good. The sides were nothing to rave about--average. I'm positive now that I will not be returning. My coworkers have come here numerous times and been recommending this place. My supervisor wanted me to try them out so we decided to have our lunch here today. Inside was full, very limited seating; however, if you dont mind the warm humid weather they have more tables outside. The have variety of selections so I had the Pork Ribs with Ceasar salad. The meal comes with option of CornBread or believe Beans. I had the corn bread - it was moist very buttery and has an actual corn not just corn meal but with actual corn. It was delicious. My plate was delicious as well. The pork ribs was well marinated and melts in your mouth. The Ceasar Salad Croutons was good too. Since I wasn't able to eat all my meal I had take it out, they have their doggy bags/plates out by the counter, self service. Customer service wasn't too bad. First time trying it here & thought the prices were reasonable UNTIL I got my food. REALLY SMALL PORTIONS for its price!! Got the 2 meat plate with chicken breast & ribs. I expected more than just 2 ribs & probly sliced up HALF a chicken breast. Mind me, my chicken breast was still RED & there was dust in my waffle fries. I wanted to complain for a refund but I thought it was too late because my plate was already half eaten & only seen it towards the end when I was about to eat it. Food is ok. Bitesquad failed to bring sauce. Why in hell would a bbq place not send their sauce? Huh? So, bitesquad was all sorry to the tune of 5$ but won't resend the driver. So, I call the restaurant. The girl is very nice but after conferring with her coworkers said sorry, sir, and hung up. I'm emailing their corporate office to complain when Dickey's calls back, she said they're gonna try to get bitesquad to bring sauce... sitting waiting for the sauce. read more

Food was good! Service not so good. Maybe it was an off day but the staff should be more welcoming and engaging. All four counter employees including the cashier did not have smiles on their faces. It was our first time and we could barely hear the employee ask what side choices we wanted. It was almost uncomfortable. You should also align your specials with the website even if you have to charge more for Hawaii. That is what other chains do. We're used to it. Versus just saying we don't have that. This place needs some serious management changes. Took us 30 minutes from entering to paying, and its maybe 20 feet. Only 1 guy was cutting meat, 1 aunty was taking orders (except she didnt fully know what was going on), and 2 girls with no sense of urgency that kept running away to do stuff instead of ringing us up or helping out aunty. I had to repeat my order to every person that came to help, and it still came out wrong. They need to figure out how to be efficient, otherwise this place is not worth eating at. read more

prices are too high. my "2 meat plate" was $13.25 -- two small pork ribs & some sliced-up sausage & the bun/roll was teeny, not Texas-size. the menu board had hand-written chalk prices -- so hopefully they'll lower their prices. creamed spinach was very, very salty. ya know, smoking meats a zillion hours won't make a noticeable difference. cashier was very glum. i shrugged it off -- maybe she's had a very tough life so far, or maybe her regular job was working at a mortuary! her extra long eyelashes were maybe a tribal thing, like folks with tattoos covering throat & entire length of both arms. music was too loud. read more

Came with my boy for lunch. We like the Picnic with 1lb meat, 2 sides and gotta get the cornbread man!! This time we had 1/2lb of the pulled pork and 1/2 of the beef brisket, waffle fries, mashed potatoes. This time I bought the yellow cups so next time we come back we only pay $1.05 for the drinks. This time I paid attention to the other drinks and realized they have strawberry lemonade, I must have drank 64oz no lie. When we got there, no line so we got served quickly. So...since I decided to give it another try....I came back and brought a friend this past Saturday. It was great and she loved it. She had the 3 meat plate (brisket, ribs and sausage with fried okra and creamed spinach....I had the rib plate with Caesar salad and green beans). The ribs were delicious and tender. I decided to come back a few days later (this past Monday) with my hubby for lunch because he wanted to try the ribs only to see a sign that there were no ribs and this is at around noon....how is that okay especially at a bbq place at lunch time? We were so disappointed that he decided to go to pandas. I ordered a side of the pulled pork (because it's my fave)...it was cold but I had it to go so I heated it at home. Returned back to Dickey's this evening and was caught by surprised by the servings of the usual that I would order. I love the beef brisket and jalapeño kielbasa. Normally there would be 2-3 slices of the beef brisket, but tonight, I received just one slice of beef brisket. When asked about the servings of brisket slices, the worker cutting the brisket said yes to one slice. By the way, my friend order beef brisket and pulled pork and received 2 and a half slices of beef brisket. And my friend ordered just 30 minutes after I ordered. I usually don't like writing negative stuff, but was just caught off guard with tonite's servings. I will still come back because I still love the food. But please be consistent with your servings. I just had the most ridiculous encounter with the owner of dickies restaurant in Kapolei I brought back a sandwich a brisket sandwich that was dried out and not good and they told me that I had to get another brisket sandwich I told him I didn't want another sandwich they told me that sandwich was half eaten two bites The sandwich was not half eaten in fact I spit one of the bites back into the carton so they could see that it was dried out The customer service was so poor that I told him just give me my money back and I won't come back and that was fine with him instead of trying to save a customer or make things better he made things worse so if you go there know that your customer service if you have a complaint it's gonna fall on dumb ears read more

Second time at Dickey's but this time it was take-out. Not sure if that's the reason the food quality was different or because the first time I was so excited to try a real bbq restaurant on Oahu. We ordered the XXL pack with pork ribs and brisket with mac-n-cheese, bbq beans, green beans and rolls. The ribs and brisket was very dry. Not juicy and tender. I commented to my family that my smoked ribs and brisket is much better and they agreed. The sides seemed like they were shipped here frozen and reheated. The bbq beans were just pork-n-beans with a little bbq sauce. The green beans were absolutely not fresh and frozen for sure. Very mushy. The mac-n-cheese was just generic tasting. Even the grand kids didn't eat them and they love mac-n-cheese. One of the comments from the family was that the rolls were the best thing. Not sure if we'll be coming back. I guess the next time I'll just have to bust out the smoker and do it myself. BTW, being a take out order had nothing to do with the quality because I waited for the food at the restaurant and went straight home, about 10 minutes. read more

Went here for the first time...they never picked up their phone so we decided to go down and eat there. My family and I got the small family set. The meats were good but my girls weren't big fans of the sides (except the fries). Overall not bad but not the mainland BBQ flavor we were looking for. read more

I first tasted this food at one of our Game of Thrones parties. I was amazed that it was from a place in Hawaii. We were in the area of Kapolei and decided to try it for ourselves. It totally reminded me of a barbecue place in Texas. I love the brisket and pulled pork and ribs. The choice of sides are awesome. I wish there was one on my side of the island. I want to try everything. They have 3 different barbecue sauces to pick. It's self serve so you can have as much as you want. I would most definitely go back to this place again. read more

Just wanted to start off by saying this place is awesome not only for their great bbq but for their outstanding customer service. Our company put in a pretty big phone order and I spoke to Dave the manager and he was able to take all the orders, no problem. Mind you this was at the same time when the line to go in the place was out the door. So they were not only able to fulfill their customers orders there, they were also able to fulfill our phone order. For a business just opening up and taking our order opening weekend and still have great customer service amidst the stress, they got 5 stars. I would give six if I could. We were stuck inside for Easter and since my husband is from Texas, we decided to order some BBQ from Dickey's for our Easter meal. We live about 35 minutes away but figured it would be worth the drive. We ordered a meal package which comes with your choice of 2 meats and 3 sides - more food than we needed but we knew we'd eat the leftovers the next day. Even though it's a lot of food, it's still rather expensive. With a 15% tip, we spent $67 total. I wouldn't mind if the food was good but they messed up our order so bad. We ordered sliced brisket but got chopped brisket. We ordered Mac and cheese (which was the one thing I was looking forward to the most) but they gave us baked beans. Neither of us eat baked beans so those just went to waste. We ordered pickles but got none. The food that actually was correct was just ok. Certainly not worth the $67 we paid. It's partially our fault for not checking the order before we drove home, so lesson learned there. But when you spent $67 and drive over an hour round trip for a meal, you expect your order to at least be right. I might give this place another shot if I happen to be in the area but I definitely won't go out of my way for it again. read more

We must've gotten there at a good time which wasn't too busy. Not greeted upon entry, but I really don't like the whole store acknowledging my presence upon entering the doorway. Menu had many options ranging from single meals to family packs. Sweet Tea! Cost wasn't terrible either. I ordered the XL pack which leads to my only complaint. Can we get a bigger container for sauce? The single serve cups just ain't cutting it for that many people. Got the ribs and brisket. Sides got the green beans and creamed spinach. Very tender and lots of flavor however they go overboard on the ground pepper in the green beans. The spinach was very delicious. And the sauces were really good. The portion of brisket I got had more fat than brisket so I wasn't too happy with that. Overall not bad. read more

Had the brisket plate. Max n cheese was equivalent of velveta and noodles. Noodles over cooked so became bowl of mush. Green beans had good flavor but were also over cooked and became mush. First time entering in here since it's been open and there were already 4 people working that day, 3 boys playing around and 1 girl trying to get everything together. The bigger one was recording himself singing to rockstar, and the other two boys laughing. Checked in for my pickup order and after 10 minutes they're packing it up (was already made yet they helped a larger order first that came in after me) and found out they didn't even cook the 3 order burgers, had to wait 5-10 more minutes. After getting everything the boys starts playing provocative music that you can pretty much hear through out the whole store, the girl tells them to turn it down but probably goes out their other ear. Should I even mentioned that they aren't practicing food safety protocol? Touching everything, their phone and back to the food without washing their hands and changing their gloves. Gross! Updating this review after the owner reached out to me and I went back. This time, we tried the pulled pork and it was the winner! The meat was cooked perfectly, moist, flavorful, and delicious. We love the fried okras and we always get them. Mac n cheese was comforting as should be and cheesy. They definitely revealed themselves and the owner was very kind and took great care of us!! It was alright. It sucked that we went at 4:30 and they were out of everything, Mac and cheese, rice, etc.

Once I realized the sauce was on a condiment table and not handed out for takeout I was happy. Can I eat brisket everyday??? It's so good. Don't care for the cake style cornbread, prefer the rugged style my grandma made but the Mac and cheese is super good and in a small portion only 150 calories according to the menu board. Maybe someday I'll try another meat, but that brisket! Sliced not chopped for me, thanks! read more

Ordered the picnic pack which included sliced brisket, fried okra, side potatoes and their yummy rolls. Also ordered a half rack of ribs which was very good. What didn't get any stars was the classic sandwich of chopped brisket. It was not edible. My husband said the meat was so black it was scary looking. The brisket was dry salty and looks liked they loaded the sandwich with the burnt outside of the brisket. So disappointed. Should have ordered slice brisket instead but thought the chopped would be easier to bite as a sandwich. Huge mistake. Threw it away. read more
