Been wanting to try this place and finally dragged my nephew to eat here. Dickey's is located at the shopping center across Walmart in Kapolei. Parking was pretty accessible, service was prompt and food were ono! Got here about 1130 Am so it wasn't pretty busy yet. They have a few tables inside and few tables for outside sitting. I've ordered the meal with 2 meats. I ordered the brisket and ribs but I think they accidentally gave me the pulled pork instead of the brisket but I let go since I've pretty hungry already. The pulled pork was tasty and very moist as well as the ribs; however, the ribs could've been more tender in my opinion but overall with a good flavor on both meats. It came with 2 sides. I got the Mac and cheese and coleslaw both very good!! It also came with either their regular rolls or corns bread. I opted for the corn bread. The corn bread was delicious and moist!! The best part is my nephew get to eat for free! On sundays children under 12 eat for free!! Such a good deal! I'll come back to try their brisket. read more

What a great place to have on the west side of Oahu?! Since this place just opened, the crowd has been out the door!! So we decided to go on a weeknight, and the line wasn't sticking out the door this time. Even though it took us maybe 20 minutes to actually order, the wait was so worth it!! It's awesome to be able to watch the servers cutting up the meats and prepping your order! If you're my height, it's a little challenging having to tiptoe down the whole countertop in order to see the process, but I enjoyed it and the restaurant welcomes you to see the behind the scenes action! Although it's a barbecue place, everyone would automatically order the ribs or brisket, but I absolutely love the turkey! It's so soft and moist, and the flavor-omg... it's mouthwatering if you're not really a meat eater like myself. I also love the sides-creamed spinach, fried okra, baked beans, all of it. Just finished having a huge delicious bbq at Dickey's in Kapolei. OMG nooo comparison to any other bbq place anywhere on this island. Excellent ribs, turkey, beef brisket, shredded beef , creamed spinach, green beans, cole slaw and corned bread. Moist tender and the portions are gigantic. They have three different sauces but everything is so tender and moist you don't need to put any sauce on the meat at all. We are bringing the rest home. The pecan pie was amazing too. And they play finger-snapping, toe tapping music. We live in Hawaii Kai but believe me it is well worth the drive. You wont be sorry. The manager, Danny, is a very nice local guy too. So... My Uncle wanted to eat there for his 60th Bday. My Mom and my Aunt wanted to take him to a Fancy place. But he was vigilant. So I went over to check the place out. I asked one of the girls if we could reserve an area. She asked the Manager and called me later to say we could. We reserved the patio area for about 20 something people. Food was very flavorful! Came at the ending of lunch hours but it was still a bit crowded. Inside ding area was a bit hot. Not much seating area as well although there was seating outside. Not much ppl like to sit out in the heat. Ordered the picnic combo I think it was called, brisket and pulled pork. With sides of Mac n cheese,waffle wedges, rolls, and rice. Legit Texas style BBQ. By far the best BBQ I've had since moving to the islands. The place is a little small inside and could use some more seating, but the food reminds me of Texas so not gonna hold it against them. This place was a recommendation, so went to check it out because we enjoy brisket, pork ribs, pull pork, etc. We tried the pork ribs ... loved it, brisket .. some parts were too peppery which gave my mom a coughing fit, so that's the reason for the 4 star instead of 5. This is based on the operation. On Oct. 6, I called to make a big phone order for the UFC 229 fights, but I was told "we are not taking phone orders at this time, you'll have to come in". I asked how long is the wait and she said "we're really busy and it'll be about an hour wait". So you want me to drive there, wait in line for an hour, order, and wait till my order is fulfilled? This makes no sense at all. On Oct. 8, I tried calling multiple times, but it seems like they left the phone off the hook. So I decided to drive there. There was about 15 people in front of me, so I asked one of the employees how long do you think the wait is, he said "you're inside, maybe 20-30 minutes". I waited 10 minutes to see 2 people get their order and another 2 start ordering. I guesstimated a 50 min. wait just to order, so I left. They have to fix the way they're taking orders. Instead of taking orders and having people wait with their order #, they're taking your order and making you wait till it's completed, before taking on another order. That's why the line takes forever. I hope you guys get it together soon. If this will be the norm, you'll lose a lot of customers. read more

First time to eat here, we ordered the family pack. We went home eating all of our food. The brisket was my favorite. I love the fried okra; and Mac and cheese. The place isn't big to dine in, but since it wasn't busy today when go at 5pm that's why we got seated right away cause most people do take outs. Fortunately, we didn't have any bad experience today; they've provided extra plates for us to use. The line was long but went quickly. Just make sure you pick the right time when there's less people such as one to two hours before lunch or dinner. Will update later on my review since we will be dining here again in the near future. Ended up going to Dickie's pre grand opening on a Friday night. Only posting my review now because I couldn't find the Yelp page at first. Overall, took about an hour to before we got our food and paid which seems good for a new restaurant! There were menus available and people came out later to pass out menus to everyone. The line moved at a steady pace the entire time. Everyone was really friendly and helpful even though it was probably a crazy night for them. Lots of different food options and combinations. We got four plates. Mine I got the 2 meat plate with beef brisket and pork kielbasa. Each plate gets two sides and a roll. I got baked beans plus mac and cheese. On the side by the drinks they also have three sauces to chose from: original, sweet and spicy. I think original is the way to go tbh. The brisket and kielbasa were super good! Would defs order those meats again. The baked beans were not bad. Mac and cheese tasted like fake mac and cheese buuuut I still ate it all so??? The roll was a step above a school cafeteria roll but just below free restaurant bread. My dad got the pulled pork and that was pretty ono! It might not seem like a lot of food but it's definitely filling. The sides look small but they're also pretty good portions. We decided that we would totally come back again except we would only order the meat and make our own sides at home. As a native Texan I was apprehensive about how the food would be but excited to have a taste of home so close by. I waited and waited and WAITED for it to open. My first trip I didn't stop because the line was insanely long. A couple days later my husband offered to brave the line for me. The food was amazing! He told me after he got home they had fried okra which I totally would have gotten had I known. I'll be going back frequently once the crowds die down a bit. Seriously try it!!! So I first want to start by saying I am Dickey's fan. I use to eat at one a long time ago and was super excited to see this location pop up when I was looking for a lunch spot today. I arrived at 11:05, five minutes after they opened to see a big line. That tells me that they must be doing something right to be so popular. So I stood in line, and ordered my food. I asked for a drink and then I paid, and looked down to put my debit card back in my wallet. When I looked up I saw my tray of food next to a cup placed upright. So naturally I grabbed my tray and my cup and sat down to have my meal. I had the westerner sandwich with pulled pork and brisket, with mac and cheese and beans. The sandwich tasted good but was pretty cold for being right after they opened but the sides were great. I would have gone with a three star review here, even with the cold food, because it still tasted good. but then, as I was finishing my food I noticed something written on my cup. It was in black sharpie and blended in with the rest of the writing on the cup. it said: "Tips" and "Mahalo" I almost threw up right then and there. I had been drinking sweet tea out of the tip cup! How many people's dirty money had been in this cup? How many days had it been used? WTF? I can only assume that the worker did not grab the cup and place it next to my tray, but instead placed my tray next to the already present tip cup. And since this was my first time there I did not know that and assumed he placed the cup there for me. I went up and told him, he made a face like "eww, that's gross" and told me to throw it away and get a new cup. I did and I left. The whole way home I felt sick. There is no telling how many people with their dirty hands, placed their dirty money from who knows where into that cup. And I drank out of it! Not with a straw, but with my mouth!! I never like to complain about something without leaving a solution. So here you go Dickey's. Don't make the tip cup the same as the drinking cups!!! To be fair, I showed up at 5:30pm on Christmas Eve looking forward to trying this place out for the first time. I walked in and was helped by two young ladies who apparently don't take their job seriously. After several tries to order "meats by the pound" I am told they only have Cheddar sausage. I enjoyed this restaurant it definitely carries the aura of a Barbecue pit. Do dress comfortably if you desire to sit inside because it does get warm. There is outside seating that are covered and some that are not. The food is priced good in my eyes and the only negative thing that I think that can say about this place is that the food doesn't have that "kick" to it if you know what I mean. I'm used to smelling everything from wood burning or charcoal, but I don't get that and the meat has good flavor but not that Down South or Hawaiian flavor. You get three options of BBQ sauce that are all on the side: spicy, sweet or original. I got the spicy and original, I liked them both. Being from the south the BBQ is so so. The sides are so so as well. We tried the chicken, ribs, brisket and it was cold by the time we ate. It was pretty busy the night we had went. The portions are very small compared to other places. We went on Sunday when kids eat free and I have to say that was the best thing about our experience. IF we go back, it will be on a Sunday again. ** UPDATE TO INITIAL REVIEW: The owner contacted me and wanted to rectify the situation. He told me to come by and he would get me whatever I wanted. I went in around 3:30 so I would avoid any type of crowd. Ordered my Chicken and Turkey with sides. Sat down to eat and I have to say that both the chicken and turkey were really tasty, moist and juicy. Flavor was excellent. Thank you to the owner for taking steps to rectify. I did notice that the "Order Online" signage is still on the blackboard menu and should be covered up since they do not accept online orders at this location. I've adjusted my rating from 1 star to 3. I'll probably go back and try it again at some point. ------ Honestly, this is the worst experience I've ever had at a barbecue place in my life... and I'm a pure bred southerner who knows bbq! I had to wait to try Dickey's for a long time because every time I go there's a line out the door... not because they are that busy, but because the service and the flow of the way they do things is so FUBAR! I finally had an evening when I had time and went there about an hour and a half before closing time. Just as I suspected, the line was about 7 people out of the front door. I bit the bullet and stood in line. Guess how long I waited? 10 mins? 20 mins? 30 mins you ask? Nay I tell you. I stood in that line for 40 MINUTES!!! Absolutely ridiculous! I wish this was the worst part of my experience but that's only the beginning. When I FINALLY arrived at the counter, I looked over and found workers lined up. They ask you what meats you want and then SLOWLY put it onto it's plate before going to the next station for the sides. I asked for the 2 meat plate with chicken and turkey because I'm trying to stay away from red meat and pork. The bewildered meat man looks at me with those cold eyes and says "We're out of both". WHAT IN THE ACTUAL @(#)*$ ?! - I said, you mean to tell me I just waited in this line for 40 mins like I'm at Disney, there are no signs posted ANYWHERE that you are out of 2 of your main meats, and I'm supposed to just be ok with this and order something I don't really want?! He looks at me and gives a patronizing "I'm sorry". So I go through the arduous process of picking 2 other meats that I don't really want ( Brisket and pulled pork), head down the line to the sides station, order those, and then reluctantly pay with steam coming out of my ears. I immediately ask to speak to the manager and the bearded one comes over to greet me with worry in his face and absolutely no aura of management about him. He introduced himself and I tell him my plight. Instead of acting like a manager/leader, he immediately starts giving me multiple excuses to why they ran out of the meats. Obviously he was missing the point. I understand when restaurants run out of items... my problem is that I waited in this ungodly long line expecting to order something and there was NO INFORMATION posted ANYWHERE that they were out of 2 main dishes on their menu. If I would have seen a sign on the door or on the main menu overhead that said they were out ... I would have IMMEDIATELY left and gone somewhere else. That's exactly what I told him and he offered NOTHING in return for my troubles. The typical answer from a "manager" of a restaurant when a customer isn't happy is. " Is there anything I can do to make this right?" or " I am so sorry, let me comp this meal for you or your next meal is on me on your next visit". Nope, NOTHING other than another patronizing "I'm sorry". To make matters worse, I pointed out the fact that they should NOT be advertising "Online Ordering, Skip the Line" in their restaurant if they ARE NOT OFFERING THAT SERVICE!!! He said, I'm sorry ... we're just too busy to take orders online. Then WHY are you advertising it inside your store?! Here's the deal. ALL OF THESE problems with the constant line could be fixed at this place with just a modicum of common sense. Ok management, here's what you do: Instead of having people stand there and go through the tedious process of one by one watching the meat handlers and side slingers put together their meal, which takes FOREVER... here's a small change that will solve all your problems and actually increase your sales, profits, and make your customers happy: When people come in, have them go immediately to the cash register and order their food. They give their order, they pay, you give them a NUMBER, they get their drinks and bbq sauces and sit down and wait for their meal to be prepared. When it's ready you CALL THE NUMBER and have them come up and grab the food OR you have a number tent on their table and have someone bring it out to them. It's SO SIMPLE and will solve all your problems. You don't have to hire extra staff to accomplish this, you don't have to train anyone how to wait tables.... you just eliminate the need for the line and turn a much higher profit by serving more customers. read more
