This is a long review, I had quite a bit to say. I LOVE a good BBQ! From Arizona to Wisconsin, I have tried many different kinds. Unfortunately Dickey's in Kapolei, Hawaii does not meet my standards. I've been to Dickey's on the mainland. (BIG SMOOCH). When I saw a Dickey's here on Oahu Island, I started doing the HAPPY DANCE. It's in Kapolei which is a 30-45 minute drive from the other side of the island. I was really surprised by how small this restaurant is compared to the other restaurants in the Mainland. Dickey's Kapolei is located in The Walmart Shopping Center. The restaurant has maybe 15 parking spaces. There are 4 restaurants that they use. The Shopping Center in general has tons of parking Spaces but it's quite a walk to Dickey's. The easiest way to find the restaurant is to say it's kinda hidden behind Jersey Mikes. The biggest issue that I noticed was that it had NO Street View. That alone caused me to take one of my stars away. I used to love the 2-meat combo. Smoked Breast Of Chicken and either the pulled pork (which always seems to be a bit dry.) Or my 2nd choice is the Jalapeño Smoked Sausage. My two sides are The Fully Loaded Mashed Potatoes and The Macaroni and Cheese. No complaints about my sides. My Daughter is a creature of habit. She always ordered The Smoke Stack. (They recently changed their food names). It's 1/4 pound of Brisket, chopped or sliced depending on how you like the Brisket placed directly on top of a Large Boat Tray of the Macaroni and Cheese. My daughter and I made a habit of going to Dickey's at least twice a month. AND SUDDENLY POOFDICKEY'S WAS GONE! NO,NO, NO! Back to ordering BBQ, Nope, Hey Look! That restaurant has BBQ signs all over it. My hope was starting to rise until My dreams were shattered...It's a Korean BBQ, HO HUM. There are tons of Korean BBQ restaurants, Just as all my hopes for a yummy Western BBQ had disappeared , OMG! Did that van say Dickey's? It was too late to make my 30 minute drive all the way back to Kapolei. But when I awoke the next day, the sun was bright, There was a light breeze and the smell of jasmine flowers and the birds were singing. I rushed to finish my errands and took off in search of where is The "NEW" Dickey's? Surprised! It's in the same Walmart Shopping Center and it was still hidden behind Jersey Mikes. I decided I would place a mobile order. 2 meat plate, (smoked chicken and Jalapeño and cheese sausages.) what can I say? I also am a creature of habit! I LOVE The Texas Toast, so I ordered 6 pieces. I went inside to get my order. There seemed to be some kind of tension in the air when I walked in. There were 4 high school age kids running the restaurant. I grabbed my small bag of the dinner rolls. That poor 17 year old kid had to listen to my rant. She went to the back to tell The manager? Naaa, The New Owner? Ding Ding, Ding, We have a winner! The gentleman looked exhausted. Now I felt sorry for this man. Restaurants are one of the hardest businesses to run. He seems nice enough, so I explained that I ordered 6 pieces of Texas Toast. His response was to tell me, We're out of Texas Toast, so I exchanged your order and gave you the dinner rolls instead. "Bread is Bread". He issued a refund. As I was just about to open the door, The owner said "Hey, Did you want these holding up the bag of dinner rolls? Sure, my daughter will use them. I walked back to the register and he handed me the bag. UPDATE: My daughter and I went back to Dickey's, hoping that he was doing better. Nope. This time they were out of sliced chicken breast, no sausages, no sliced ham and not any type of apology. The customer right next to me seemed to have almost the same problem. She asked for a piece of pecan pie and that's what she paid for. But in her bag, they gave her an ice cream that was melting. She asked for a refund on the ice cream because that's not what she wanted. The owner looked directly at her and said dessert is dessert. Just like bread is bread. And now you can see why I gave them three stars. I wish him luck that hopefully he is able to straighten the restaurant up and get it working like a well oiled machine. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Tucked away in the corner of this busy area we decided to have lunch here. We always went to other Dickeys in Florida and enjoyed the food and portions. A children's complete meal for $10.99 came with 1/4 of a sub bread. It was eaten in 2 bites?! And I'm a small eater. Suggest a 1/2 sub roll as it was placed on a large paper plate which made the sandwich look so small. Maybe a smaller plate? The full size brisket combo is overpriced at $18? The most disappointing part was their Coke dispenser. It featured all these wonderful flavors but majority was unavailable??? Why display it- opt for a soda fountain maybe? This is not the Dickey's I remember. I went to two locations in California years ago and enjoyed the food. But times have changed. The prices are higher, and the portions smaller. I'll start with the sides. I got delivery, which took a long time because of traffic, and I believe that affected the quality of the mashed potatoes. They were a gluey lump, but they still tasted okay. The green beans were bacon were terrible - the green beans were overcooked and the bacon was nearly non-existent. But someone dumped a ton of pepper on it, so for me, it was inedible. The baked beans were fine. It came with Texas toast but you get only half a slice these days. Now for the meat. The smoked ham was good but way too salty. One expects ham to be salty, but not this much. The rib was good. The sliced brisket was fine, although nearly to the point of getting dried out. I asked for original BBQ sauce and got nothing. I appreciated that the sauce was on the side but it only works if they actually pack the sauce. I also got a pulled pork sandwich. It was small and smashed down, and meh. They did have great 2-for-1 deals I took advantage of, so I saved a lot of money. But the quality just wasn't there. read more

Haven't come here in a long time but we always loved the brisket. Unfortunately my serving of brisket (which is $1.25 extra) was dry and needed sauce for flavor. YES Dickey's is back and better than ever! The staff were friendly and food was Amazing! I ordered the half rack rib plate and the ribs were THICC and juicy. I couldn't decide which of the 8 bbq sauces to get so I bought extra for $0.50 each to try three of them (Original was my favorite). If dining in they have a nice open and clean dinning area. First of all, I am not a huge meat fan, so take my review with a grain of salt. I walked in for the sole purpose of getting a couple sides of fried okra cuz they're Taylor's fave and left with over $50 worth of food. I LOVE sides. Potatoes are my favorite food. I also love mac and cheese. I saw they had a veggie plate where you get 3 sides and texas toast so I knew that's what I wanted. I then went to their website and there was a coupon for signing up for the mailing list. Then when you make a rewards account you get a free sandwich! The coupon was for min $45 purchase so I got 5 veggie plates with an assortment of sides. Unfortunately they were out of Texas toast so I got rolls instead. They also forgot to put my fries in the bag but were very apologetic when I called and luckily I was still in the area so I could go back. Highlights were the mac n cheese (reminds me of a bagged one we had at Disney that was so processed but so good) and potato casserole (like mashed potatoes with bacon). Green beans quite peppery were ok. Fries ended up being a bit overcooked but I like the fresh cut texture. Beans had good flavor, mash also peppery but good. Everyone loved the fried okra. Originally from Texas so I'm picky on BBQ. Got the brisket and ribs. Both are amazing! Super tender and full of flavor. Had loaded potatoes also for the kids that do not eat meat. Bbq sauce was super good . I like that they have the drink machine with 100s of choices . Customer service was great. They had little strawberry ice cream cups for the kiddos for 85 cents so it's nice to see affordable treat for kids. On Sunday's they have kids eat free with adult entree so a great way to take everyone out ! The place was super clean also! Workers were very nice. read more

Went out to the car to check my items and went back in realized the green beans weren't there so I went back in to tell them, which they gave to me. When I went home (my fault for not checking) but I was also missing the barbecue beans. Stuff isn't cheap nowadays and it's disappointing to have missing items on orders you paid for, almost twice. Decided to go here last weekend since they reopened for business but new owners... for the price of the food it isn't worth it. The sides were good but they didn't have the old sides that used to be on the board to order from before and the meat portion wise wasn't enough. They used to serve it on trays but now it's on a paper plate. The sweet tea tank wasn't filled either when me and my bf paid for the cups/meals we asked the owner if he's able to fill it up nicely and when we were done with our food it still wasn't filled up until later when we were gonna leave. Location - 4.5 of 5 located next to Walmart kapolei, front side area by main entrance. Ample parking but looks like that area can get busy. It's right across Panda Express. If it gets busy park across at Walmart and walk it. Restaurant - 5 of 5 Clean, roomy with also an outside sitting area. Couple TVs indoors. Don't know if there were any outside in the patio area. I heard this Dickeys was opening up under new management, so I was excited to try it again. But...I was very very disappointed. The sides look nothing like the photos and the meats were so so dry. I got brisket and pulled pork, the brisket wasn't cut well and it was dry like cardboard. The pulled pork had some pieces that were dark meat and those were sort of moist but the white bits were dry. Ordered the green beans with bacon, but there was no bacon to be seen. Also, the photos on the menu show flat green beans but these were round beans. There was no sauce. It tasted like the green beans from a can. The Mac and cheese in the photos on the menu look like the thick noodles with lots of creamy cheese but what we got was thin noodles and barely any cheese. Very bland. The coleslaw was good but again, it looked nothing like the photos on the menu. It honestly looks and tastes exactly like KFC coleslaw. Its all chopped up just like KCF coleslaw. The chili with brisket was okay. On the salty side but the chili was good. The brisket in the chili was also tough and hard to chew. The bread that comes with the meals were stale and dry. I tried dipping it in the bbq sauce but it didn't help. I'm so sad, because I was so excited to try this place again, but I don't think I can buy food from here again until something changes. Regrettably & reluctantly visited again today and it was another degrading, inappropriate, unprofessional, excessive shit show! I had last visited Oct 28th as noted below and hadn't been here for over 1 1/2 years before that for obvious reasons. Back then they weren't this bad and have only gotten worse since this David. I was threatened twice by "manager" David..."....before I do something to you...." and again "... before I put hands on this guy!" These threats were without escalation from my side and were not warranted whatsoever. This is one of the most negative and shittiest establishments on this island and I would imagine that they are not doing well and won't be open long. Keep in mind that this mistreatment...all from them & one sided...was after they delayed my orders for well over an hour! Until a few weeks ago I had not been here in over 1 1/2 years and I didn't miss it, but I wholly did regret it!! I also watched them discriminate against a targeted gay male by feigning out of stock pulled pork inventory and then threatening to make them wait another hour or only offer substitution of sausage to humiliate him in context of the name of the establishment and a nearby much older weird acting black female. The ownership and management of this location are TRULY CRUEL & ENTIRELY *DISGUSTING*!! I had plans to never visit this miserable place ever again after today and they made sure that I was stressed and made as miserable as possible before I left, almost as if it was premeditated. What a miserable hellhole of a place! I clearly don't need you....enjoy your miserable hell of a location until you close! I did not deserve this and, over time, YOU WILL LEARN that you wasted your time! [ P.S. : At least one customer recorded the manager threaten me unprovoked and multiple customers approached me later outside indicating that they thought this moron of a manager was out of control! I suffered 30+ minutes of constant cruel malfunctions and issues with both the app & the website in 2 different browsers trying to put my order through, which had a reward and gift card payments. Upon asking for the WiFi password multiple times to try to change from my mobile network I was immaturely & matter of factly told "I don't know the WiFi password." I asked in a manner for other employees to chime in and help, but no one offered assistance. I suffered another 10+ minutes before I was finally able to put the order through. Upon doing so I calmly approached the front counter to complain and was aggressively met by manager David as if he were waiting for me to say something! He was confrontational and uncompassionate about the situation and then lied and said that I was given the password when I specifically remembered that I was NOT GIVEN THE WIFI PASSWORD. I had to greatly restrain myself to prevent the situation from escalating further so that I could eat my food since I hadn't eaten anything yet. I never write bad reviews but I find myself highly motivated to speak up. I ordered a baked potato loaded with sour cream, butter and green onions, and a side of cole slaw. What I got was a baked potato with about a teaspoon of butter and a teaspoon of sour cream, and about a tbs of Cole slaw ON the potato. Once I scraped the cold slaw off, I was left with a dry, cold potato. Don't waste your time here. read more

I ordered through Uber eats on Friday, Sept 6 at around 7p. My order was priority but I didn't receive til about an hour later. The driver told me that the workers were playing around, they told driver it'll be a 10 minute wait but turned into 35 mins. What initially got me annoyed was that I received a gallon of lemonade with no lid on & just a plastic wrap over it! This is unsanitary to me and I don't know what could've gotten inside while being handled, but then I talked with the manager & he said that their empty gallons didn't have any lids. I was also missing my side of Mac & cheese. I won't be ordering any food from this place ever again! So disappointing! Also, after consuming the food, my family & I had an upset stomach. The second we walked in the door the look on the staff's face should've been our warning to leave, they did not look happy we were there and we got there 3 hours before closing. We tried to ordering three of the Giant Loaded Baker (loaded baked potato) and were told they only had one left. How do you only have one baked potato left for the night when you close in three more hours? We continued to order food and when my wife's Giant Loaded Baker arrived, it was cold! We were crushed, we had high hopes as the food looked great on the website however it was just all down hill once we got there. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews - I'm a big fan!! I've come a couple of times and have been most excited about their sides - definitely always ordering fried okra (super yummy, even after the 30 minute drive home), and I was more into the baked potato casserole than the baked beans (very liquidy). I love the turkey, chicken breast (both weren't dry at all!) and the pork ribs. The sliced brisket was also yummy but I'd definitely order the other three meats again. I love the spicy bbq sauce - adds a real kick! I tried the cornbread and Texas toast and both were yummy, but the Texas toast seems a lot bigger! Honestly, I've never paid full price here, so the portion sizes don't really bother me. I also joined their rewards program and already scored 800 points and enough for a 2 choice plate, and got other great deals emailed to me, like buy a large soda ($4) and get a free pulled pork sandwich (stuffed with meat and with added onions and pickles), buy $30 gift card, get a bonus $10 card.
