One thing that North Branch really struggles with and always has, is decent restaurants and ,unfortunately we've been let down once again. I was so excited to hear about our new bbq restaurant, but really its not much more than a bbq fast food restaurant as far as quality goes, its lacking. There is only one decent thing here and that's the pulled pork sandwich and that's because its the one thing that doesn't taste like it came out of a can or was just thawed and reheated. If you are in the mood for below average chewy fatty ribs this is the place for you, if not, don't go here, go some where else that takes the time to produce quality fall off the bone bbq where they don't treat it like its an assembly line. I'm sorry but I've already forgotten they are located there when I visit the other businesses in this strip mall. I will NEVER purchase food from here again. read more

Stopped tonight on my way home to grab some dinner. I go through North Branch a lot and have eaten at Dickey's before. Evidently I won't be anymore. They have opened a drive through. It would seem that the owner has told the employees that the drive through must be kept moving and that it takes priority over dine in customers. I didn't know this, neither did the two people in front of me in line. The staff wouldn't even acknowledge us. After 12 minutes (that I'd been there) the people in front of me left. I then heard the one employee tell the other "we just lost more customers - this is the dumbest thing in the world". I waited another couple minutes (now I'm curious) and asked what was up. One employee just rolled their eyes and the other told me about the new "policy" that the drive through takes priority. I asked "so as long as there is a car out there, you can't wait on me?". The employee confirmed that was the case. I asked when I could get some food, he said he didn't know as there were customers in the drive through. Seriously - I couldn't make this up if I tried... I took the owners business card and left. So, do yourself a favor, avoid Dickey's like the plague and eat at one of the many great restaurants in North Branch that actually want your business. read more

I've stopped 3 times. First, I got a pulled pork combo, the sides were lacking flavor and simply dull, the roll was tiny and didn't make a sandwich. Second I got a pound of pulled pork to take home, this was a better choice. The third time I stopped they were out of what I wanted to order so I walked out. read more

Wonderful REAL BBQ! All of the food was exactly like the bbq I had while living in Texas. Franchise owner Rick was so nice and made sure to say hello to my husband and I and ask how we liked our food. Wonderful place, they even have free ice cream, although we were too full from our delicious pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches to have some. Great REAL food! Don't waste your time heading to a fast food place, go to Dickie's and you will be 100 times more satisfied. read more

Enjoyed very tasty smoked brisket & pulled pork plus the dill potato salad was amaze balls. I tried their traditional & the spicy Bbq sauces, both were good, I liked the traditional sauce overall, although the spicy was good too, not just heat (as I think tends to happen a lot) but good flavor too. I was craving some ribs, walked in and they were out of their ribs...Understndable being it was 2 hours before closing. Had the beef and pulled pork. Both were delish. Enjoyed all of their bbq sauces. Was disappointed in the fact that they offer free soft serve ice cream and before we were done with our meal they were already emptying the machine. My company had a catered meal from Dickey's Barbecue Pit presented to us employees on all three shifts and the food was really good. Everything was hot, fresh, and plenty of it. First and probably the last time at Dickies. This is fast food at a high price. Should have turned around when I saw the drive thru. If you want fast food stick with Mc Donalds and save yourself a pile of cash. If you're looking for fast Q, stick with Famous Dave's. Same price with much better food and service. Bunch of kids running the place. Not overly clean. Ugh! I'm a KC BBQ judge and do a lot of smoking myself. This was very disappointing to say the least. We gave it a fair shake, ordering a rack of ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Sides were disappointing. Think the beans came straight from the can. All the food was luke warm at best. Very disappointing! Not fatty, but tough and little flavor. We spent $88 for a meal for Memorial Day, it was such a letdown. Ordered a Ceasar salad for 3-4, it would have been enough for 2 maybe. Visited Dickies first time today.....honestly not real impressed. Since first impressions count, I'll tell you my first impression upon entering the restaurant was that it was dirty and disorganized. Granted....there were quite a few customers eating there and that can create some chaos all on it's own....but once we queued up in line, it became a long and painful waiting game to get our food. There were two customers in front of us. One single gal and a couple. We waited about 12 -15 minutes before the first guy "behind the wall" took out order. He was busy, or at least his head and shoulders appeared to be busy since he's behind a wall (top part was glass) you couldn't really see all of him. When we finally were able to order (after 12-15 minutes of standing in line) we felt like we had to stand on our tippy toes to make our selves heard since right in front of my mouth....up about at forehead level is a glass wall. The first guy took our order and asked us what sides we wanted to which we replied with our desires. We then stood there for several minutes while the people in front of us were moving down the line to pay....seeming confused by the whole process. When they cleared out, we moved down the cash register only to be called back to give another guy our "side" choices as the small sign says about half way between the first guy and the cash register. My question was....why did the first guy ask for our side order....when clearly we were supposed to give that order to another guy who clearly had no idea what we'd told the first guy who asked us....communication is clearly lacking here. Also, all the meat we saw used came out of a heater unit of some type and was wrapped up in plastic wrap, a piece of meat cut off, and new plastic wrap applied and then put back in the heater unit. I guess this system works....but it just wasn't very appetizing to watch knowing your ribs didn't come off a grill...but out of a heater and wrapped in plastic wrap seconds before you eat them. Suffice to say, we had plenty of time to observe the goings on behind the tall ordering wall....and it just appeared to be a confused affair at best. Just kind of like there was no organization between the employees and their tasks and that perhaps no one was actually in charge at that time. We paid and the clerk gave me two yellow plastic glasses for our drink. My wife had in the mean time gone to get us a seat at a table. So I'm presented with two plates of food, a separate bag of waffle fries and two drink cups. So I have two hands and to move all this I pretty much need at least 4 hands. I ask if they have a tray (pretty standard fare in most self serve restaurants....or so you'd think) and the guy gives me a blank look and says...."sorry we don't have any". So I made two trips from register to my table with the food. My second trip back had me looking at the next customer to pay looking and breathing on my food and asking it it was their food.....as I excused myself between them to get my food. I should add here that our two drink cups had grease all over the outside of the cups. I'm assuming the cash register guy who handed me the two cups after I paid him had greasy hands......meaning he was handling food products, dirty cash money and my drink cups without bothering to wash his hands or change gloves between tasks. The food was decent enough....not a stand out by any means, but of decent quality. That is except for the bread roll (looked kind of like a cross between a hamburger bun and a hotdog bun. It was plain white bread and one bite told me it was tasteless calories....and I have no need to ingest those. I would have thought they could at least have toasted and buttered it to make it appetizing. The ribs were decent as I said...but a bit dry and the ends of two of my 4 ribs were really chewy...kind of like beef jerky. The aisles between the two rows of tables and the "ordering wall" were really narrow and while we were queued up to order we had to hug the wall a number of times while people exited the restaurant or to go back and forth for one reason or another. My wife loves ice crème....so when we entered the restaurant she spied that and said...oh that looks like a nice treat when we leave. So when we left, we queued up just in time to see a dad in front of us playing with the machine to get his son some ice crème.....all with no success. He tried the machine long enough, without success, that I figured I'd have no success either....so we left without any ice crème. So, it was an interesting experience and in all honestly, not one that I'm probably going to desire to have again for quite some time. I've been in a lot of restaurants in my days...and this one looked very disorganized, on the messy side (waste cans were overflowing, bathrooms were nasty, table cleared, but not clean and far to long standing in line to order food that was average at best. read more

This is too strange to be true. After a letter from the manager apologizing I decided tonight that I would give them one more shot. I didn't expect much to be impressed, only the usual level of service you are given at a normal drive-through restaurant. The coast was clear... There was not a single car in the drive through and not more than 2 to 3 people in the restaurant, time to STRIKE! I pulled my car into the drive through and I ordered two pulled pork sandwiches and two orders of their waffle fries. The speaker at the drive through yelled at ear deafening levels "TWO ORDERS OF FRIES!!!" After 3 minutes the young lady came back to tell me that they "were out of pork for the next half hour". I told her I would find something else to eat and she said "ok". I want to leave a positive review for this place, I really do. They are making it impossible and this has almost become a macabre game that I feel like I am being forced into playing. I will get a decent meal from this place, and I will receive reasonable service. (I am going to say that out loud to myself for 5 minutes in the Shopko parking lot prior to pulling through here again). Am I just that unlucky? Am I just cursed? I am too astonished not to think this is not just a bad episode of Punk'd or something. I will try again. Maybe in a week, maybe in a month. If this happens one more time, I will think it's about time to "86" this restaurant. read more

The food, while it wasn't anywhere near the best BBQ I've had, isn't the reason for my 1 star review. I give the food abut a 3, and the fact you can "make it a meal" (2 sides, no drink) for $4 extra is annoying (especially because they barge $2.50 for a drink!). The young cashiers are about as rude as they come. Our food was tossed at us onto our table and as my waffle fries danced across the dirty table I received a nice "eye roll" from the female staff member. This same individual literally harassed us when we said we only needed 1 drink (mind you these large beverages are totally shareable). So who cares?! Perhaps if your "make it a meal" deal included what a typical meal does (a drink) then staff wouldn't be so perplexed. I felt bad for the young man working with the 2 catty girls who cared more about gossiping than taking customer orders. The food was cold, put together very sloppy and I wasn't offered another batch of fries when Ms Bad Attitude spilled mine. The tables around us needed cleaning and sat dirty the entire time we were there. $30 wasted - should have paid more for a better experience elsewhere. I'm sure the original owners had a very different vision for this restaurant chain than the awful service and cold food we received. read more

Ordered the Rib plate and the Brisket plate. The Pork Ribs were done and tasted fine but the fat on the backside was not removed. Gross! It go worse with the Brisket. The meat was dry, tough and actual many pieces burnt. The side we had were the only real good part of the meal. The Mac and cheese, potato casserole, and waffle fries were all done well. I will be back for the coleslaw in the future. This was a takeout order so I did not have the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of this BBQ shack. Oh, also the BBQ sauce was very heavy on the vinegar. Which I thought was way too much for my tastes. I will be back in the future to give them another chance but not for awhile. read more

Just walked out. Huge line, but ONE person (older man with gray hair) cutting meat, 3 young high schoolers watching, did not attempt to get anything ready or cut any meat which they had been trained on (I asked). When I asked if one of them could start on my meal, the older man said you have to wait. When my meat was done, then they put the fries in the flyer, causing more wait time. Absolutely NO delegation! The amount of meat you get is never consistent, neither is what they put with it, one day there is pickles, the next only onions, and sometimes no bun. They were out of almost all pop, unsweetened tea and sauce at another location this weekend in Minneapolis. If this wonderful chain fails, its due to management, not the wonderful food I can eat despite my gluten intolerance and dairy free lifestyle. Famous Daves is fake and loaded with chemicals, gluten and dairy, this chain is based on spices and authenticity (if you ignore the soy)...just wish it was managed better. read more

I was very disappointed. The food was cold and the portions were small. The place was extremely dirty. I would never bring my wife and kid there again. The ribs were entirely fat and the sides did not taste good at all. Our meal for three was $36, for ten dollars more you can eat at Famous Dave's. The employees were very rude to my family. I would have complained but the oldest person working was probably 17. The place might benefit from having a manager. Will never go there again. read more

For BBQ there are far better places. For BBQ near North Branch this is the option without travelling at least 20 minutes. Dirty facility, grumpy staff, but a wonderful BBQ pit smell. The kids like the free ice cream. read more

Ive only been in once, and it was good! The meat was awesome, (we tried the pulled pork and texas chop and both were excellent). The sauce was a little hot for me, but I wonder if they have several to choose from? Kids would not like it. Priced fair (I paid $13. for two sandwiches and two sides and two cole slaw toppers). I'm going back again...service was ok when I was there, so hopefully they're getting the kinks worked out. read more

I have been to the Dickey's location in Coon Rapids many times and love the fresh hot food and very friendly staff so I decided to try my hometown Dickey's. My first visit as I walked in the place was dirty and looked liked it had been hit by a tornado. The meat and sides were all cold so I decided maybe I went in after a rush and they had not had anytime to recover so I tried them again today, same results. Cold meat on both sandwiches, cold mashed potatoes, runny mac and cheese, and dirty right when you walk in the door. I think I will stick to the location in Coon Rapids. It is such a shame I am sure this will be the third business to close in that same location since it was built. read more

Each time we go here it gets progressively worse. Tonight was our last time. The ribs were tough and had lots of grizzle. The service was poor. The restaurant was not clean. The drink and condiment stations was a mess. And to top it off, my credit card receipt has a place for a tip. A tip!!! I have been meaning to try this place for awhile and boy was it a disappointment. Our food was low-quality and barely warm. I sent my first sandwich back as it was cold. The next one barely qualified as luke warm. Kids chicken nuggets looked and tasted like something from a school cafeteria. If I had paid McD's prices, I might have been able to overlook some of this, but the cost was WAY too high for the quality. Lastly, the place was dirty. The bathroom's trash can was overflowing and there was water (gawd I hope it was water) all over the floor. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Also, there was a bucket of water with a dirty rag in it on the counter where you get soda and sauces and lots of flies. Gross and probably a health code violation. The whole experience left us grossed out and disappointed. read more

It is nothing over the top and I don't feel as though it is lacking in an area. I do however feel that they are a bit over priced in some areas. I do enjoy their food, I have learned what to get and what not get. I do enjoy that we can bring the cups home and use them over and over again as they are good for outside cups in the summer. read more

I grew up around southern barbeque, and I have to say that put in the context of those experiences, Dickey's served up some of the most flavorless and lifeless barbeque I've eaten. The pulled pork and beef brisket were unable to stand alone on flavor, having the faintest smoke flavor and little else. The smoked cheddar sausage was good and better than you'd find in many barbeque restaurants in the south, but fell short when put up against the quality sausages one can find in the upper Midwest; barbeque is to the south what brats and European-style sausages are to Minnesota and Wisconsin. The sauces were average, at best. I withheld giving the restaurant a 1 star rating as the staff were friendly, upbeat, and quickly prepared my order. The ambiance of the restaurant was also good. The value was fair, not great. The 3 meat platter with 2 sides and a pop were around $15, and while that sounds like a good deal, the portions were small. If this were the only barbeque restaurant available to me, I'd probably eat here occasionally, seeing it more of a break from fast food as opposed to traditional restaurant dining. But as there's considerably better barbeque out there, I probably will pass on returning. read more
