This was my first negative experience at a Famous Dave's location - 2 stars. Our visit wasn't the end of the world. But it was irritating. AFTER waiting in line for 15 minutes and AFTER we placed our order, we were told that the wait for meats would be 40 to 45 minutes. "Is that okay?", she asked. Very friendly...but it wasn't okay since we were on our way home and we wanted to take a break & load up on some tasty meat at the halfway point. We canceled our order, we returned to our car, and we continued on our drive home. I don't understand the problem. And I don't understand why we had to wait so long for meats that, obviously, are cooked & prepped waaay in advance...like 12 hour roast Beef Brisket...like Sausage Links. Understaffed? Poor planning? I was happy to find a Famous Dave's. They are one of my favorite BBQ restaurants. This store does not take your order at the table. You order at the counter, take a number stand, and find a seat. I ordered the rib combo. This is a half rack of St Louis ribs, one meat (I chose jalapeño sausage), t sides, and a cornbread muffin. The ribs were tender and juicy with a sweet tangy sauce. The sausage was smoky, spicy, and juicy. The Wilbur beans are my favorite. I could eat them for a meal. It took a little while for the food to get to the table, but it was worth the wait. read more

Stopped at the location Forest Lake, Minnesota first time ever at famous Dave's girl behind the counter was not very friendly so we ordered dinner for Two ribs chicken and brisket. Brisket was dry room temperature. Ribs were dry room temperature. Chicken was hot and juicy. I ordered mac & cheese supposed to be creamy was dry no cheese on it, barbecue sauce was good. My girlfriend and I went here last night. When ordering our food we told the guy at the counter that she has a gluten allergy and cannot have any gluten on the plate. He responded with yep no problem. So we sit down and get our food and my girlfriend takes a bite of the pork and then mixes it around to find a slice of bread on the bottom of the pork luckily she ate a piece off the top. I brought the plate up and told them again that this is not ok she can't have any gluten. A worker came back up with a new bowl of pork with no bbq sauce on it and told us the bbq sauce had gluten in it. So the piece of pork we thought she got away with eating still had gluten on it and now she is dealing with serious stomach pain. This is complete BS and should never happen in a restaurant. They obviously don't teach their employees about different allergies. We will never be going back and we recommend anyone will an allergy stays away. read more

Walked in. Barely anyone dining in around dinner time. Order the feast for 2 at the counter. FYI they ask for tip BEFORE your meal. Sauce lovers rejoice at Famous Dave's! The meal started out with a little dish of house made chips and the encouragement to go ahead and taste all of the sauces. Yum!! Being from Canada (where vinegar on french fries is the norm) I couldn't get enough of the Georgia mustard on the seasoned wedge fries. So craveable! My pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw needed a little sauce and to me sweet and zesty was the right fit. Husband tried the burnt butts and sort of wished he had done regular brisket. First visit and should not be my last. The Ribs and Brisket was outstanding. I've had my share of Q, just moved from North Carolina. And not sure I've had better. Cole slaw and beans were OK at best. Slaw reminded me of KFC, but not as good, IMO. The beans had very little taste. The Corn Muffins are to kill for. Service was both very friendly and fast. BBQ to go! Famous Dave's in Forest Lake has a Tuesday Special: $30 plus tax & tip for their Feast for 2 (plus buying a bevy). They've got an ingenious plastic bag for the FF2-just the thing to keep the large tray intact. I love their bbq ribs, brisket, beans, slaw, chicken, and muffins. It's sad that this place and the chain as a whole has gone really downhill. For over ten years they were a great place to go for competent brisket. It wasn't world champion good but it decent. And now the last few times I visit the brisket feels like its out of a Schwan's truck, and it looks odd, too. The staff was very nice and helpful. read more

I got some Buffalo wings today. I like their Buffalo wings because their Buffalo sauce is different than the standard Buffalo sauce and, in my opinion, better. I got their two for one weekend special and it looked like they shorted me a few wings. The manager explains it goes by weight, not numbers, and I told him I was was fine with that. As I thanked him and turned to leave, he said,"I will give you some more, anyway." So he prepped another half dozen wings. In the meantime, the girl at the counter gave me some extra buffalo sauce and extra wet wipes. I thanked them again. I appreciate the fact that they went above and beyond what they needed to do to make a customer happy, and it's the reason I love this location - outstanding service! read more

Wow! Great BBQ... and it's from a chain restaurant. I had the combo with brisket and sausage. The sausage was good and the brisket was terrific! Juicy and tender. The Mac & Cheese was OK. Never in my life have I walked out of a restaurant before touching the meal. Famous Dave's used to be my favorite destination, but in this place, we were served 2 meat deal that was supposed to be enough for 2. Plate had half a rack of baby back ribs and about 5 very thinly sliced pieces of what they called brisket and about 5 french fries, barely enough for one. In reality, this was crusty, dried up shoe leather that was prepared a week ago. Server offered to replace it, but why would one serve something like this in the first place? What a disappointment! All food was ordered and paid for upfront, including tips, which makes the tips a subsidy for their inability to pay employees, not gratuity for good service. Its nice to get a combination of food to try so we like the All American platter served on a garbage can lid. Interesting decor reminds me of an old garage. Until recently, Famous Daves in Forest Lake Minnesota was one of my favorites for BBQ both dining in or take out. This review is targeting their take out business. We ordered the Dave burger and a 2 meat combo with brisket and ribs. At $22.50 for the two meat combo the portions were miniscule. To add insult to injury both the brisket and the ribs were over cooked almost to the point where none of it was edible. Ribs and brisket should not be crispy and crunchy. Fankly, it almost appeared that they had a couple of entrees that weren't good enough to serve to an in house guest so they threw them on our take out order. The point is Famous Daves in Forest Lake needs to do a much better job of quality control especially when it comes to take out orders. They also need to look at the value for the money they provide to all of their customers. I will have to think long and hard before I place another to go order with the Forest Lake Famous Daves. That is such a shame because not too long ago it was a great place for BBQ and a great value for the money. read more

The restaurant was really laid back and inviting which is nice, and the food didn't taste bad and my boyfriend and I hadn't been in a while so we decided to go, but the problem is that once my boyfriend and I got home after our lunch, I started feeling like I needed to puke. Well, I did. A lot. I was assuming it was because I over-ate, but its the next day and I am having severe stomach pains as well as nausea, and my boyfriend feels like he has a "massive hangover" and also puked. This review is completely unfair. But don't blame me, blame the nasty catfish fingers. I've always been OK with Famous Dave's. It's pretty good. It would be even better if you're about 300 pounds because the portion sizes are ginormous and come from two favored food groups: meat and fried. I've never come here without walking away with enough leftovers to create at least two more meals for myself. So the last time we came here, we ordered an appetizer sampler on top of the main courses. Why? Well, aside from curiosity and a desire to try a lot of different things, I'm still not sure because the sampler was enough to stuff at least three people to the gills and there were only two of us. So there's no question about the sheer volume of food that is included in this cornucopia of fried delight. It was all pretty good, as far as fried food goes, until we got to the catfish fingers. They were foul. I wanted to vomit, seriously. And even my fiance, who will eat almost anything in the world (except for beets), was thoroughly disgusted by them. Maybe I'm too northern to fully appreciate catfish. Who knows? I know that people in other parts of the U.S. laugh at Minnesotans for the lutefisk thing. But really, who eats lutefisk? If we're being honest, hardly anyone does because it's nasty and we're not afraid to admit it. The same goes for catfish, except that people actually seem to like that so I'm a bit baffled. Yuck. So as far as Famous Dave's goes, try the pulled pork sandwich. It's good. But avoid the catfish fingers unless you want to catch mud leprosy. read more

The atmosphere is great, with an outback cabin feel and up-tempo background music that gives the place a unique energy. And since I dine with a 3 year old and an 18 month old I appreciate that it is also kid friendly. Be prepared to drop $40 to $50 for two adults and two kids. My personal pick: the two meat platter with Georgia Pork and Sweetwater Catfish w/ a side of Wilbur Beans and Drunkin' Apples. Comes with corn on the cob and a biscuit. Awesome. read more

It's embarrassing how many times per year we eat at Famous Dave's. It's one of the few restaurants in the area that consistently has great food, is convenient for dine-in or take-out, offers regular coupons (if you sign up for their email list), and can fill up the grand canyon (my boys' stomachs). I've also ordered ahead from their catering menu. One time, I needed 10 lbs of barbeque pulled chicken at the last minute. Customer service was awesome. Sometimes, they do require at least 24 hour notice if they don't have enough prepared, but I was able to pick it up within two hours and it was a blessing for a friend who had just suffered an unexpected death in her family and had relatives and visitors descending on her home. They will also do a custom order for me - plain grilled chicken breast and a side of broccoli - at a reduced price (for health reasons). The atmosphere is casual and comfy when we eat in. Good for families or business lunches or visiting with friends. Once (out of many, many visits), we ordered take-out and they got one of the sides wrong. I called but didn't feel like driving back to pick up what was missed. They mailed me a gift certificate for $15, far more than what the entire meal cost. Mistakes happen occasionally. But they didn't hesitate to go above and beyond to make it right. read more

The service I received here was way above other Famous Daves I have been to. All were very interactive with me. Asking if I needed anything, how my day was or just answering me with other then the normal "yup." My food was brought out in a very timely manner and hot. I work in customer service and engaging with customers with other then the normal conversation at a restaurant is as important as the quality of food, and I received all today.
