Get ready to be in awe of this cute little spot! It's so cute and rustic! Such a cozy atmosphere. We went on a Tuesday and it happened to be Mexican night! We had the amazing nachos and it was delicious! The chips were crispy and flaky and loaded with cheese, beef, lettuce and black olives. It was one of the best nachos we've had in a long time! The margaritas were super tasty! Our server was friendly and very accommodating. There was an outdoor patio garden and the plants and flowers were so beautiful. Such a great spot for our date night! My parents have been coming here for the past set 5 years and when I come into town they take me here for walleye. (Can't get good walleye in Arizona). I was home a few weeks ago and the walleye was delicious. We sat on the patio since I brought my dog. I love the patio is dog friendly. Servers are very nice. I would recommend this place. read more

I've been here twice now. Food is just fine. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Just average food and average service.

You can tell there is a lot of history within the walls of this restaurant and it was packed with locals so that's always a good sign to me. Our waitress was prompt with taking our order, and following up with us later for refills, etc. My husband went with the chicken taco salad and I had the log jammer plate. The shell on the taco salad was nice and crisp and the meat had great seasoning and was moist. My log jammer sandwich was the best prime rib sandwich I had in quite some time, both in the meat being tender & flavorful, as well as the fact that they weren't stingy with the prime rib. Fried mushrooms that I haven't seen for 10+years! Fantastic The salad was good- lots of croutons. I ordered the sea food dinner-a little strange(2kinds of shrimp) the fish fillet had a backbone down the center! Watch out for bones. There weren't any scallops. I also ordered the augratin potatoes- not too creamy more watery like they had been nuked and not stirred. It was filling and I think I'll go back for the mushrooms for sure. read more

This is the last time we will visit this restaurant, we used to love stopping in here on our way to (or through) Forest Lake. We ordered the marinated chicken breast fillets with mushrooms & cheese. We each had one bite of the chicken, very tough and dry. The mushrooms were dried out, the cheese had already hardened and wasn't cheesy anymore either. We mentioned something to the waitress and she indicated that they've been 'having problems' with their chicken supplier and asked if we wanted anything else. We had just gotten our drinks and said that we would probably go somewhere else, but had been looking forward to eating here again. She took the chicken off of our tab, but we are still charged for the drinks, even though they were pretty much completely full when we left. It's like they really didn't care that we were dissatisfied and walked out! A bad ending to otherwise good day. read more

It had been years since my wife and I ate there before we got married so we took our kids out for dinner. The place was decorated wonderfully and the staff was pretty friendly. Our waitress was quick with our order and drinks. The walleye was great and my son's cheeseburger seemed nice as he ate it fast. The chicken strips on the kids menu are great size and good flavor. The two pork chops I ordered were juicy and had great flavor. The cheesy onion hash browns were fine and crispy. We will return again in the future. read more

We usually just get their delish broasted chicken to-go during covid, but now we can order everything! The lunch specials today were both a hit! Been there a handful of times. The building is the best part - it's cool, old and historic, but food is just okay and seems overpriced, It's always crowded and loud when we've gone, (both on weekends and week nights) and the service has been, again, just Ok. For $30 you got 3 rubber shrimp and a horrible baked fish that also tasted like it was coated with flex seal. Restaurant was less than 1/2 full when we sat down and ordered...everything started out fine (although we had had requested water and additional beverages, but had to ask again for the waters). What was not fine was the cold/barely luke warm 'hot beef sandwich'. after a bit of a wait, I went to here work station and requested it be heated up, and the server said ok, then she never came back to the table - so I flagged her down and asked again - this time she took it to the kitchen and as she left with the plate, she said it would be discounted ... 100%. I wasn't sure If she meant it would be discounted 100%, 0r 100% promise to discount, either way, she took the plate to the kitchen and returned less than 3 minutes later. - food was still cold/ barely luke warm - I'm not a fan of cold potatoes, gravy and meat. I did NOT eat any more and pushed the full plate to the side. When I was asked about it, I told her it was still cold and I said I'm not interested in warming it up again, I'm done. and she just left it there. when we got the bill, I was charged full price - no discount as offered- so I did something I never do, I left NO TIP. The staff shortage is showing at this restaurant. I felt really bad for everyone working. Summertime is literally the busiest time of the year for lake side restaurants but they had a sign up asking for more help in the kitchen, and another sign stating their restaurant would close earlier than usual and not be open at all other days. The wait staff also couldn't give the best service because I think they had too many tables to tend to. Our food took a while to come out and maybe it's my fault for ordering the 1/4 broasted chicken instead of the 1/2, but I felt like the size of the chicken I received was smaller than what the high price I paid warranted. The chicken itself was delicious though, I'll give it that. The fries were lackluster, but not the worst I've had by any means. All in all, I think if you get the right thing and maybe go at a less busy time, you will have a fine experience, but I personally would not go back. Also, they had uncomfortable metal chairs (old tractor seats) on the patio and it was difficult to sit very long, so I stood for some of my meal. read more

This place sucks. It's always something, every dang time. Today, the gal behind the bar seemed overwhelmed and perhaps she was. We are certainly sympathetic to that, and act accordingly...But we aren't regulars and apparently you need to be to get her to serve you, follow up, or get pull tabs. For being so "overwhelmed", she had plenty of time to chat with her regulars, make sure they had drinks when empty, and get them pull tabs. She then acted exasperated at very polite asks of her. Doubtful I will go back. Three strikes. Actually about 6 or 7. The food is very average, below average. Some dumpy barfly couple at the far end of the bar wanted our seats at the opposite end as soon as we walked in and sat in them. We visited the Old Log Cabin on Saturday, September 23 for a late lunch. My partner and I split the walleye dinner with broccoli and cheesy hash browns. The food was quite tasty and reasonably priced. The wait staff was pleasant and quite tasty. As seniors, there were two downsides...the chairs were extremely heavy and difficult to move. While there wasn't a TV (thankfully) it was quite different to hear one another. Despite the downsides, we will return. read more

Seriously, no one should consider living a sacrificial life, without knowing what they are missing first. It's just not right! We came early and had to wait till 4:00 since that is when the deed is done for the big, juicy, prime cut of aged beef. The meat is seasoned to perfection and served in a dish that help keeps it warm. Along with their stunning side dishes, you will not be disappointed by the long drive into the middle of nowhere. The chicken, bread, potatoes and even the broccoli are all cooked to perfection and served with amazing eye appeal. Don't leave room for dessert though - you can get their delectable sweet treats in a to-go box!!! Erika is a superb server with a very helpful spirit. Yum, yum,yum should be all I have to say. We had the spinach and artichoke dip that was so amazing. The bird was grilled and the dip had huge chucks of artichoke. Then we had the prime rib dinner with a salad and has browns with cheese and onions. The prime rib had great flavor and the au jus was not salty at all. The choices to dine in out in Forest Lake are not that plentiful. I have always wanted to try the Old Log and tonight; finally did. It's rustic and reminds me of the Iron Skillet in Portage , Wi meets that place they ate at in the Great Outdoors home of the "old 96er. Any place that has broasted chicken, sign me up. We were going to order some broasted to go, but they don't have to go on the chicken on Saturday nights due to how busy it is. We walked in and while it was busy, the wait was not bad at all. Waited only a few minutes for a table. There are booths and regular tables with the big lumberjack wooden tables. Also a bar with high tops and an outdoor patio. Food: The humongous fungus mushrooms are excellent. Not quite as good as Stanley's in NE, but a close second. These are nicely battered and good size shrooms. My little one even liked the mushrooms sans the batter. I wound up with the 1/4 broasted chicken with broccoli and mashed potatoes and gravy. Chicken was so moist and tasty. The dinner comes with a choice of many sides; salad, soup, slaw, potatoes etc and a roll. My parents both ordered the broiled cod dinner. I'm not a fan of cod, but they both said theirs was good. As was the seafood chowder and coleslaw as their sides. Service was great. Lots of different items on the menu along with different specials during the week to choose from. Would return. read more

Had the Grizzly Chicken as a take-out order since that's the only option with the COVID-19/stay-at-home order. The chicken was well-prepared and the sandwich had a lot of flavor with the combination of barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, and bacon. Our family also had the broasted chicken which was AMAZING!!! This, by far, was the highlight of the meal. This is consistently prepared well every time we've gone to Old Log Cabin. We'd definitely order it again. We look forward to returning to Old Log Cabin soon. read more
