Decent uptown Asian supermarket if you're looking for a less busy calm experience…read more Ranch Fresh Supermarket was our go-to at the start of the pandemic when they were one of the first stores to introduce masking for peace-of-mind. We still come back every so often as they still offer fair prices without corporate markup. Walking in, the familiar arrangement is in place with produce section in front right with a good variety of Asian vegetables & fruits. This is followed by packaged meats, butcher counter, frozen products, seafood section in the back with nowadays standard prices. The dairy, bakery, sushi and hot food sections round out the left side with some weekly specials. Between this is the usual set of narrow Asian grocery aisles. This isn't the most polished or busy supermarket but browsing here is pleasant with the relative calm that you don't always feel at congested places. From hot food specials, we tried their stir-fry eggplant ($5.98), sweet & sour fish fillet ($9.98) and Cantonese chow mein ($4.98) in good takeout portions. The eggplant and fish were both flavourful while the noodles tasted less authentic. There's a small seating area upfront. Skip it or hit it? When we're occasionally in the area, it's our preferred grocer for old times sake.

This review is based on one visit in January 2022…read more In era of a pandemic, grocery runs are major outings, and sometimes the only outing in a week. So it is only fitting that the first review I write in 2022 is on a grocery store. Ranch Fresh is good - the store is spacious, brightly lit, clean, well organized, well ventilated, cheerfully decorated. The fresh meat is really fresh. Just like other Asian supermarkets, most fresh meat items are sold by weight behind a butcher counter. There is some prepackaged meat if you prefer to grab and go. There is a big produce section with great varieties. Pricing is higher than its sibling store Field Fresh (Scarborough) and just about the same as Full Fresh (Markham). I cannot comment on services, because I didn't require any assistance. There aren't many Asian grocery stores in Newmarket. I trust Ranch Fresh is a good addition to the neighbourhood, providing diversity, variety and convenience.

It's the place to shop for everything organic. And every department has amazing people working to help you find and buy what you're looking for - there's the amazing John and his team in the produce department who make sure all the gorgeous organic vegetables and fruits are at their very best; there's fabulous Anna, Jan, Jordan, Dayle, Mark, Yulia, and Michael at the deli counter, all professional, friendly, and ready to help you take home some of the many fresh deli meats and vegan options, and delights and treats of all kinds. You can even get a hot and fresh spelt or gluten-free pizza made by the incredible Barbara or Ricky. And in the kitchen, wonderful Peter and Scott and a crew of amazing chefs and cooks create incredible dishes and soups to enjoy in-store or to take home. In the grocery section, the fantastic Jeremy and Elaine and a team of other hardworking colleagues keep stock on the shelves and keep everything organized and accessible--Nature's even has a large and varied selection of organic nuts and dried fruits. And over in the incredible supplement section, the very knowledgeable Bev, Linda, and Olivia, to name a few, are our constant go-tos for information on vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and for the wide range of other products available. And Karen and her team do a fabulous job of looking after all the health and beauty products in the store. And when you've filled up your cart and are ready to check-out, you have a team, including the incredibly efficient Pinar, Swapma, and Jacob, to ring all your groceries up and check you out. We like to end our shopping experience with a lovely coffee or smoothie at the juice bar. Nature's Emporium is an experience--an amazing experience, and one that we highly recommend. If you go for the first time, you will not believe your eyes. And you'll want to keep coming back. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

I went back to the store later that day at 6pm and was informed that there were no ribs available to sell. Would you believe that I went back to the store just as soon as it opened up today at 9am to see the meat counter filled with ribs to sell now at $3.59 lb. This is blatantly Dishonest business practices and although they are a neighborhood grocer they have lost my business period and I will make sure to tell my neighbors just how they ripoff the consumer. We recently celebrated a family birthday at fishbone for lunch and it was a great experience from…read moreservice to food. The restaurant is brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight, the decor is a mix of elegance and rustic at the same time. It's got an open and inviting feel. Our server was fantastic - very patient with a large group like ours, able to tell us right off the bat what is and is not customizable, recommendations of when to order to ensure flow works out. Food: Charbroiled octopus - one of my favorite dishes I tried - perfectly cooked, has a nice char, good meaty bits but not chewy, has a really nice chili oil on it. I can not stress how much I recommend getting this if you enjoy seafood. 5/5. Chorizo appetizer - comes out in a little pig plate with an open flame underneath. The chorizo itself is good with a nice spice, dense meat. The best part of this dish (IMO) is the spiced apple sauce on the side that cuts the richness of the sausage with a sweet and tangy apple and a little spice kick. 4.5/5. Bread - fresh baked bread with butter, a pumpkin jam and cheese. Everything on that plate works so well together. I definitely recommend this as an all rounding pleasing appetizer - 5/5. Beets - the beets were fresh with a vibrant orange colour. The apple, walnut and goat cheese all work together. I do wish this dish had a bit more but it works. 4.5/5. Brussel sprouts - amazing deep fried brussel sprouts - makes me want to always deep fry them for life. The spicy harissa sauce works well with the sprouts. Crunchy peanuts on top add both a texture and nuttiness that is refreshing to the brussel sprouts. 5/5. Oysters - super fresh, absolutely delicious without any condiments needed. Loved them. 5/5. Paella - this is definitely large enough for 2 people to eat so consider sharing unless you have a monster appetite. As with all their plates, it is beautifully constructed. The shrimp are huge and meaty. Mussels are plentiful, lots of chorizo and bay scallops. The rice has that really nice briny seafood flavor from the broth. It was just a teeny tiny bit overly salty to my taste but it's cut with the dollops of sour cream. Has this really nice low level heat that just works without burning your mouth. 4.5/5. Lamb sirloin - great crust on the lamb and cook as well. Flavorful sear and crust on the lamb with a soft tender meaty interior. Can't go wrong with- 5/5. Branzino - delicious flaky and light with a great grill. If you're interested in a fresh fish, this is a good choice. Was a special on the menu - 5/5. Prices: Fine dining pricing but you get the excellent food, service and experience for the price.

Market & Co. has been kicking around for over three years. As usual, it takes me a while to get…read morewith the program. Better late than never. This program suits me! Roughly a decade ago, it wasn't unusual for me to visit Newmarket and Upper Canada Mall. I'd do the run on weekends. Market & Co. is where Target used to be. It's essentially a cross between a food hall and a market. I love the combination of grabbing food (it was takeout only while we were in lockdown number whatever and now dining in is allowed) and buying items, such as pepperoni and popcorn, at various vendors. What brought me to Market & Co. at long last? Patties Express. It opened up recently and I am addicted to its patties. I have been to its location at the Food District in Mississauga a couple of times. I love their patties so much that I was thrilled to hear that York region has a location. As much as I love Food District, I love Market & Co. more. It would be perfect if Pie Commission were here, but you can't have everything. I felt like I was at the best market with cool items. Vince's Market has these huge bags of popcorn. I have a lot of popcorn at home, but a bag was the length of my body pillow. I could so cuddle that bag and snack from it while watching a hockey game or a movie. I've dropped by Market and Co. a couple of times so far. The first time was during lockdown. The entrance on the left when you face the main doors heading in was available. The doors on the right were locked. Now that lockdown restrictions have started to lift again, both sets of doors are open. You can also dine inside with proof of vaccination. It was definitely more lively here last weekend. I have been to Patties Express twice. I love the patties from this place so much. I don't get tired of eating them. You have the option of eating them hot (they are perfect for a meal or a snack) or you can get frozen ones to reheat in the oven when you get home. I am now a fan of The Alley. It was my first time ordering bubble tea in Newmarket. I also had a better experience at this location than The Alley in Mississauga three years ago. Great staff. Yummy bubble tea. Kibo Sushi is amazing. You can order takeout, dine in, or fetch food from Kibo Market. I ended up getting inari, chicken gyoza, a bulgogi onigiri, and horjicha tea from this market. The gyoza were warm and super crispy. You can also get snacks, ramen, and more. It's amazing. I also got a chocolate croissant from Amadeus Patisserie. OMG! Deliciously flaky and delicious. I am still dreaming about it. If you do need to use the washrooms, they are in the far right corner when you enter from the parking lot. They are next to Amadeus Patisserie. The women's washroom was clean both times. The soap, faucet, and dryer are located by the sink and use motion detection to work. There are so many other eateries and shops that I still need to visit and explore. I like this place so much that I don't mind casually heading north to visit. You can hit the mall through Market & Co. if you aren't in a food coma. I am thrilled that I can enter this heavenly food place and not hit a large mall during a pandemic. There is lots of parking. The parking situation is weird when you enter from Yonge Street. You have no choice but to hit a three-way intersection to get to Market & Co. It's your own path to get here. Exercise patience, especially when you have a driver in front of you who had no idea what to do once he was at the stop sign. Ugh! I'll be back. My food experience here will continue for a while and my patties addition seems to be here to stay. (56)

You can get hot food, desserts, drinks, uncooked food and even a full seat down meal! Price might be on the pricier side but nice for the experience. We came on a very cold winter day and the upper floor (main dining area) was noticably warmer. We were seated right away without a reservation. Our server was very upbeat, friendly, and accommodating to some of our customization requests (e.g. certain salad ingredients and dressing on the side, substitute shrimps with extra scallops, etc.). Food came out relatively quick (there were only 1-2 other occupied tables when we were there). Service was excellent. The music playing in the background was a combination of hip-hop, R&B, and jazz. The dining room had a casual and relaxed ambiance, with a somewhat dark lighting and fake candle on every table. We got the Seafood Platter for 2, but there was enough food for 4-5 people. It came with 2 big pieces of salmon, a whole "market fish catch of the day" (not sure what fish it was, but it tasted like swordfish and was very tasty), 2 lobster tails, crab legs, baby octopus, squid / calamari, scallops, shrimps (which we opted to change for extra scallops), and some microgreens on top for garnish. We could choose to have the seafood grilled, fried, or a mix of both - we chose the grilled option. All of the seafood came on a long wooden board, with lots of butter at the bottom (I wish they didn't put any / so much butter!). The Seafood Platter came with a side of grilled vegetables (rapini, asparagus, carrot) and baby potatoes. We added on an extra plate of the grilled vegetables and potatoes, as well as Arugula Salad. The variety of the seafood in the Seafood Platter was excellent. They were very generous with portion size. Everything was really tasty and I loved the charred grill mark, especially on the scallops. They pre-cracked the crab legs and lobster tails, making it easier to eat. The crab and baby octopus came as a surprise (to our delight!), because the menu didn't say that the platter would come with those 2 types of seafood. The "market fish catch of the day" came as a whole fish and de-boned (just the filet and skin). I liked this more than the salmon, which was cooked well done. This restaurant lives up to its name - excellent place for seafood.

We went for their mothers day brunch,…read moreand we thought that we could order from the main menu but it was not available (ok fine...) so we were forced to order their $55 prix fixe menu that was totally not worth it for the most completely underwhelming meal ive ever had. I started with the yogurt parfait, it was like 5 small scoops of warm yogurt with a sprinkle of granola and maybe 3/4 of a strawberry with 4 blueberries. After getting that I knew the steak and eggs I ordered was not going to be great. As expected, the steak was for sure sous vide before slapping it on the grill given that it was mushy in texture and when I asked the waitress before ordering if she could cook mine more rare she told me that the chefs make all the steaks at medium (that shouldve been a red flag that she didnt ask how she would like my steak cooked). It came with unseasoned home fries and 2 pieces of the driest toast with no butter? We asked our waitress for some condiments and butter and she completely forgot and we had to ask her a few times before she came back with just butter (we scoured the restaurant for some ketchup). The sunny side eggs that came with it was mediocre, but how can you mess up eggs, right? The dessert I ordered the creme brulee which was the best part of the meal (which isnt saying much). My brother also ordered the creme brulee but his tasted completely different... this already tells me how inconsistent the kitchen and staff are. The whole meal costed us $455 and this included the autograt of 20%. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This was for 6 mothers day brunch meals and a kids pasta. The service was non existent and the food was absolute trash. My 9 year old niece couldve made a better meal with her eyes closed. With $455 we couldve had a lobster dinner for a family of 6. There really is no difference of getting robbed for real and eating at this place, you both lose money and get absolutely nothing out of it.

Last Saturday, I was in my car, parked steps away from Zoup! I had placed a dinner order. I looked across the plaza and noticed Paris Baguette (PB). I had visited COBS Bread a couple of hours earlier. Did I need another bakery visit? Yes! I had some time to kill before picking up my dinner. It was raining. I drove over to PB and parked relatively close to the store. I walked in. I felt like I was in heaven. Carb heaven. Where should I start? I got a tray. There were instructions to grab a small piece of paper and lay it on the tray. I got tongs and went to work. I saw palmiers. My mom loves them. I grabbed one with my tongs and broke off a curved section. It was probably a first for me. I ate the broken part and placed the imperfect palmier on my tray. The broken piece was yummy and was perfection. I finally understood why my mom loves palmiers. I hit the croissant section. I got a pain au chocolat, which is probably my favourite type of croissant. I also got a chocolate croissant. A nice, older woman started chatting with me. She was so sweet. She let me know that she frequents this bakery often and loves it. I asked her what items she hasn't had. It was two items, which floored me. She noticed the chausson aux pommes that I had on my tray and said that it was yummy. I got the following items: - Chausson aux pommes - Chocolate croissant - Pineapple brûlée pastry - Palmier - Pastel de nata - Pain au chocolat - Curry croquette The nice woman let me know that Mia, who was the staffer behind the counter, let her know that this bakery has Korean owners. Really? It made sense seeing mochi donuts. We both hit the checkout counter. Mia got her order and said to grab a seat. She'd bring everything to her. This nice woman said that she was shy of being 90 years old. What?! She looked great! I wouldn't have guessed that I was talking to an 89-year-old woman during my entire time here. I hope that when I am her age, I am savouring pastry as often as my new friend. Mia was great. She put all my pastries in a box. She singled out my savoury curry croquette in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my receipt, thanked her, grabbed my goodies, wished my new friend a wonderful day, and left. There was a Wild game that night. I had a pastry each period. Three pastries in three hours. They were delicious! I will say that the ones with fresh fruit were the most expensive, just over $6. They were worth it. The chausson aux pommes had the best apple filling. It was flaky and delicious. I absolutely devoured the pineapple brûlée pastry. The pineapple chunks were set in custard and were so naturally sweet. This pastry was superb. The pain au chocolat continues to be my favourite croissant. It was flaky and had the best chocolate in every bite. So good! I had the chocolate croissant and loved it. It was fresh, flaky, and soft. The chocolate drizzle had the right amount of chocolate with the buttery croissant. I was extremely happy with my pastel de nata. The custard had a hint of sweetness. The base of flaky. It could have been torched on top more, but I'd get half a dozen next time. I didn't know what to expect with the curry croquette. It was delicious. It had a crispy exterior, crusted with a mix of white and black sesame seeds. The curry filling was full of good flavour. It had veggies in it. The corn and carrot combination worked nicely. I raved about this place to my friend at work today. There's one at Heartland in Mississauga, which is perfect for us to do a run after work. I had an excellent experience. It was nice meeting a passionate pastry lover while getting her take on what she loves. Everything that I consumed was excellent. I hope to get a drink next time and perhaps sit down to enjoy it. I'll be back. (117)
