We were walking back to our car after lunch at the Thai Place down the block (see my review Mango Thai Berea). We passed this bakery which was packed with customers, so we stopped. Inside appeared to be a standard bakery, and since it was after lunch on the weekend before Christmas, the goods were almost sold out. I could tell that this was a decent place because the servers inside knew their pastries and how to manage the line to keep them moving in and out. The cookies and pastries appeared well made and decorated. They had samples which were so yummy and light (which could be dangerous). My wife decided to get a prepared box of holiday cookies to take home. The cookies were tasty, unfortunately the gingersnap flavor wandered over into the other cookies in the box. I would recommend getting cookies separately and not packaged. There were so many varieties of baked goods, so it would be hard to pick and choose unless you went to this place frequently. Good stuff, cookies by the pound. Various cakes and pastries also being sold. I think I even saw donuts. Keep up the good work! If we are in the neighborhood again, will be stopping by. read more

Date nut cake is very similar to Baker's Bakery, but they don't put the crushed walnuts up the sides of the frosting (which I miss).

First time here to celebrate Paczki day! I came around 9:30 and they had already ran out of Raspberry, Custard, and one other flavor. So come early! Or they do take preorders. I got the (last) blueberry, apple, and cream cheese. Wow they were so good! I ate both the blueberry and cream cheese omg!! Love the balance between the sweet filling and dough. Classic bakery. Dick's has been around forever. If you're looking for gifts this is a good place. All kinds of classic cakes and cookies. They are also old school in technology, cash only. I needed to get some breakfast treats for a meeting and this seemed like a good place to pick up items. It's been here for a long time, and certainly looks like it with the old school decor and smells. They apparently have the same recipes as they did when they opened, and the same technology too. It looks like a typical classic bakery. On both walls are glass cases. These are filled with lots of cookies and donuts. It always seems to be the same woman behind the counter. She was the one who caused some trouble with not allowing service dogs inside. It's talked about repeatedly in other reviews here. There's also been other complaints about other instances of her rudeness. She hasn't given me any trouble, but I haven't been in here often. Try ordering a cake and the experience might not go as smoothly. It is behind the times in many areas. Most obvious is the lack of technology here. Take some cash with you. read more

Date and nut cake. If you haven't had it, at least try a cupcake. It has the complexity and texture like a carrot cake but BETTER! In fact, it's the BEST! Their cookies are delicious homemade goodness too. They have chocolate chip, sugar, PB, and some other ones. It's a pastry heaven! Get there early (they open at 7) and go for it! I admit I didn't have the famous date and nut cake. I just had a poppy danish, and it was fine but really just ok. The flavor of the dough was nice, but the texture was rather limp and flimsy, and the icing was too sweet for my taste. Still worth a stop for a snack, though. read more

Love everything about this bakery, it all tastes great. But if your ordering a cake for a special event please go elsewhere, You will get it in an aluminum pan and it looks so cheap looking. Like from the store freezer dept. I think they should put them on a board. Like the smaller round ones in the bakery case. But no the other ones are put in a cheap looking pie pan! I was embarrased. Plus if you put writing on it......you have to pay for all the writing. Giant Eagle will write anything you want on a cake for free! No matter how much writing, as long as they can fit it on! We ordered a cake here for my mother-in-law's birthday this past week. We were excited to see Dick's Bakery is known for their date nut cake, which is her favorite. Unfortunately with our scheduling, a birthday dinner we had planned for the weekend was bumped to an earlier date giving us only one day to prepare. We called Dick's hoping they could help, but understood with such a late order we might be out of luck. Dick's had what we needed and helped my husband understand cake measurements. We were luckily able to get a 10 inch round date nut cake. My mother-in-law was so happy and excited to have her favorite cake and happily took the remaining cake with her. I thought the frosting was perfect for the flavor and texture of the cake and we will most likely order all of our cakes here since we love to support local business. read more

Not going to lie, in Columbus I love celebrating Mardi Gras and having king cake. I moved here and was trying to find a bakery that does it. I had coworkers that recommended this place. I am amazed at some of the negative reviews of this wonderful bakery. It is not modern or a super chain store, in short it is a trip back in time, a small family bakery that is steeped in old fashion tastes and quality. Everything I have tasted has been excellent. The date and nut cake is moist and delicious with a frosting that is not to sweet and light as air. This is our go to cake for special events and parties. I am always amazed by our guests less than excited reaction to the words "date and nut cake" , followed by asking me where can I get one of those after they taste it. read more

Growing up my family owned a bakery therefore this review is based on my experience on two points: Pastry quality and customer service. 1. The pasty quality at Dick's bakery extremely poor. They use cheap ingredients and keep on decreasing their quality every year. For example, in my opinion, the date nut cake was the only "ok" recipe they had but lately they changed the french butter cream to taste like lard and the cake batter to include less date nut. It tastes awful. 2. As far as customer service, ALL the women working at this bakery have no idea how to greet customers and do not have manners. They have treated me in a condescending manner every time I have visited.
