While the local staff at this location are generally helpful, I am writing this to warn other…read moreChicago residents about the significant risks of ordering from Backcountry.com online. Backcountry uses DoorDash for "last-mile" delivery in the city, but their security standards are nonexistent. In my case, the driver dropped my package in an unsecure, open area and failed to ring the doorbell or knock. Despite the fact that I worked from home on the day specifically to ensure I was present for deliveries, the package was stolen by a porch pirate before I even saw the notification. When I contacted customer service, they were completely dismissive. They refused to offer a reorder or investigate the delivery failure, essentially stating that their responsibility ends the moment the package touches the ground--regardless of where or how it was left. If you live in an urban area where package theft is a concern, do not trust this company with your money online. Their "completed delivery" policy offers zero protection against negligent couriers. Unless you can buy it in-store and walk out with it, I recommend taking your business to a retailer with more accountable shipping practices.

There was an odd silence and everyone working was standing on the first floor talking. The second floor seems to be all discount clothes. I got tired of asking help to find something, and cannot speak to the prices comparison, it was such an awkward experience.

Part of this is because you could paint a turd black, call it tactical, and a cop would buy it. These stores know this. However, the main reason they can be (and are) so expensive is because they know that they are generally selling to people with a uniform allowance or department purchase order; in these professions, that's called "not my money." So people spend 50% more for items than they ever would if it were coming out of their pockets. $80 for a pair of crappy Blauer uniform pants is not unheard of. But since it is the department's money, no one cares. The prices for clothing items here are almost identical to what you would pay at Ray O'Herron, Eagle, JCM in Joliet, JG Uniform on the NW side of Chicago, etc. For the price gouging, I took away one star. Smart people know to buy items like flashlights, holsters, etc. online where they are much cheaper. Where the Tinley Cop Fire Shop stands above and beyond these other stores, all of whom I've used with my department uniform allowance over years of being a cop, is the tailor they have on staff as of 02/13/2019. (I can't remember her name.) She does outstanding work on outer body armor carriers, from the fit to the stitching. She can add molle, embroider your badge/name, or make custom sized pockets for additional charges. One unique service she offers is that she will do a "rush" job on your carrier for $20 to have it in a month, or $40 additional to have it in two weeks (pricing as of the time of this writing). I paid the $40 extra for my carrier and got it in exactly two weeks, with zero errors on it. The material she used is higher quality and more durable than previous carriers I have purchased at all of the previously mentioned businesses. I have waited up to six months for a carrier at Ray O'Herron, constantly getting excuses. They didn't care, because they already had my (department's) money. I know people who have waited longer. So, you'll pay for it at Tinley Cop Fire Shop, but what you get (if getting tailored items) is well worth it. I would give JG Uniform (practically on the opposite side of the world from Tinley, lol) second place. I have no affiliation with any of these business, and am only making my recommendations based on years of using all of them. * PS If you look at other reviews, you will notice that Karen T. only gave one star. You will also notice that Karen T. gives EVERYTHING one star; that is, she is an internet complainer who only leaves negative reviews. I'm surprised Yelp doesn't monitor this.
