They lie to you.....by federal law you do not need a valid drivers license to purchase a firearm. Via ATF laws. I was told that and it is not true. Just didnt want to sell to me. This is a Top Notch Place. The Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I have ordered and picked up items with no issues. Managers have always been helpful and will assess the needs of the cutomer for best results. The range is well maintained and provides a safe place to sharpen your skills with your firearm. Beware spending your hard earned money here on range passes. Received a 5-visit range pass as a Christmas gift. Now, I'm a father of 2 that works a ton and finally excited about a day alone to hit the range in July of the same year... until I look at the pass and it expired on March 31. A 3 month pass! Is this a joke? My wife bought it for me, so essentially I'm out $65 or whatever it costs for absolutely nothing in return. I've never, ever seen a 3 month expiration on a range pass. I'd understand 1 year, but I never imagined 3 months. Called the store and nothing they can do despite being friendly. They provided the their home office / Corporate number and some kid tells me they're not going to do anything (repeatedly) after I've asked for a manager and that's policy. I left info for the manager to call me back since its Saturday today. I'll update if I get any satisfaction, but from what I've been told so far it doesn't look good. I view this as a petty money grab offering gift passes that you have to visit 5x in 3 months to get full value (or in my case, any value whatsoever). read more

I have been to this gun range once. And I will NEVER go back. All of the front associates were wonderful, very helpful and polite. My issues with this range started as soon as we stepped through that door. Our first "RSO" was rude and yelling at my husband, who is a military veteran, and knows how to properly maintain a gun. Then, to make this experience so much better, there was a shift change; and the 2nd "RSO" grabbed my husband's fully loaded gun while it was in his hand. Again, it was fully loaded. After emailing with the company, they blatantly lied about how it happened. And said the 2nd "RSO" did nothing of the sort. There's been incidents here before, and I'd honestly be surprised if it didn't happen again. read more

My wife and I went there to shoot for a date night. They have 2 lines, one for members, and one for nonmembers for range usage. We were the only people in non member line and one couple was ahead of us in the member line. They only help members first here and make you wait. People kept coming in till there was about 15 people in line. One employee was handing this massive line, there are 2 registers to process these lines there were 3 other employees doing absolutely nothing other then staring off in space and not being useful or helping the guy process these lines for the range. One of the employees came to talk to the guy about ten minutes in and put away some gun rental stuff. The customer that was returning the guns said ill let you help these people referring to my wife and me. He reluctantly finally helped us. Spent about 20 minutes of standing there despite being the second couple there. I know you're going to say get a membership, but the other employees were lazy and did not help work the line. It was about $44 for 2 people to have a lane for an hour and the purchase of five targets (i brought my own ammo, eye protection, and ear protection, or these would be additional charges) Once we got to the range it was well lit clean and well ventilated. The rest of the experience was great. Management needs to refocus on service. Especially to rent the lane for 44 bucks which is a high price. read more

Richie T the manager really was a piece of work. Horrible customer service. I bought my wife a gift card for Christmas because they didn't want me to do a straw purchase. But the gun she wanted was in stock. We return a week later and of course the gun is sold out. The manager says no problem I'll order it. 7-10 days out. Sounds great. 1 month later I'm told the gun is in. When we show up to buy the gun it's wrapped up like a new gun. I open the box and look over the gun. It's a used floor model that I turned down 3 weeks back. All the finishes are rubbed off and was clearly dry fired a lot. I asked Richie T for a corporate number and he explained the CEO is a Millionaire and doesn't care about my issue. Very unfortunate. Me and my family love to shoot and buy guns. This place used to be a good local shop. Now it's like any other big box store. Huge disconnect from corporate to retail. Nobody knows what's going on. We are looking forward to getting a refund for the gift card and returning to Blythes in valpo. It might be a small shop but won't ever be treated like your too small of a customer to help. read more

10/10 range day with the boys. Was super skeptical about trying this range out because all the reviews talk about how bad the range officers can be and that it ruins your experience but I had the opposite experience. I traveled out to this area on 6/17 to take a few of my buddies without much experience shooting. Showed up with A LOT of guns and ammo and wasn't hassled at all about anything. Was allowed to set up a couple stalls with a nice selection to shoot for my friends. Range officers were friendly, didn't hassle me about stuff, even engaged in friendly conversation and complimented some of my stuff. We shoot for 2 hours and had an amazing time. Will definitely be using this range again whenever I am in the area. Also they have a very wide selection of firearms and I'm sure you'll be able to find what you need there. read more

April 2021 - My wife bought me a Range Pass for Christmas. I have been to the range twice and received minor assistance from two different range monitors. The facility is nice, clean, and the staff has been very helpful to me. The only minor criticism that I have is that the shooting booth has a short ceiling. I frequently have shell casings bounce off the ceiling/structure and hit my arm. This is a great location for me and I plan to return regularly. If they could just add wings and beer I would move-in... lol read more

Nice gun range with a knowledgeable staff on hand if you are having any difficulty with your firearms. They have everything on hand if you don't have your own: earplugs, safety glasses, and targets. Paper targets are 4 for $5.00. A lane to shoot is $20.00 for an hour. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that their prices on guns are pretty high. You can find a better deal at Cabela's or Bass Pro on guns. For example, they currently have a Sig Sauer P365 9mm on sale for $599.00 and I bought the exact same gun at Cabela's earlier in the year for $499.00. So obviously, it was a $100.00 cheaper at Cabela's and yes, that was brand new and not used. Other than that, I like Shoot Point Blank and it will be my go to shooting range for now. read more

Last time I was there the RO came up to me because I had some cheap ammo that was giving me a fit in both pistols I had brought. He said the last guy that had that problem shot himself. I told him I was doing nothing wrong and never once flagged myself or anyone else as I cleared the failure to eject. He agreed I was doing nothing wrong. I asked why he mentioned it then? I have been shooting since before he was born. I was tempted to not return but there's little options in my area. Today I took my son to the same facility. My son was turned away because he lives in Illinois and doesn't have an Illinois FOID card. Never an issue before. Some ridiculous new policy. We're in Indiana and there is no law in Indiana that would prevent him from shooting and where he lives has ZERO bearing on how well he shoots and follows range rules. There's no sensible reason to now restrict him from using the range. No refund offered for the waiver fee he paid either. I will never go back to Range USA. *my VPN is showing I'm in SanFran. Range officials here are extremely unqualified for that role. I would urge anyone looking for a good time to go elsewhere, as someone with a decent amount of experience myself I felt unsafe with how they operate. For example I had a range official grab my rifle while still in my hands. This place has had "accidents" in the past and it's no wonder after my experience here. As a veteran I take gun safety very seriously, and I think it's absolutely unacceptable that there is no standard of safety here. For your own benefit and safety, do not go here. After they were made aware of multiple safety violations by their staff, there was no effort to rectify or prevent it from happening in the future. Firearm safety should not be taken lightly, and they seem more concerned about looking cool rather than the safety of the customers or staff. Another accident is bound to happen here. read more

The retail store area staff is very attentive and friendly but that attitude shifts dramatically when you enter the range. The range masters each have their own set of "rules" which relate to matters other than weapon safety and they love to let you know that you broke one of those unposted "rules" One range master's "rule" is sometimes exactly contrary to another range master's "rule". The answer you get if you question the rule is something like: "Everybody should know that is just good gun safety". I stopped paying attention to student hall monitors in high school and now find that some of those people have gotten older and were hired as rangemasters. A deadpan expression and zero response to a friendly greeting from a customer sends a clear message that you are on their "turf" and they don't want you there. Yes, I want a range master who is monitoring and making sure the range environment is always safe, but I expect to see some level of reasonably friendly interaction with customers. In contrast to Merrillville, I have met many skilled AND friendly range masters at other Range USA locations and the shooting experience was great. I think the Merrillville location should hold a training session for all range masters at the same time. This will give all of them the chance to tell each other about their special rules and come to some agreement on which rules are correct. After that, they can work with a hospitality coach to learn the basics of how to have a positive and friendly interaction with members and guests. It is not that hard and could put Merrillville in line with the protocol at other Range USA locations. read more

Pathetic. Frustrated as I stand here in line @ 3:15 pm after arriving at 10:30 AM i still have not yet to enter the range. Time keeps getting pushed back then they "accidentally" let another group before us & kept making excuses to why! (See below, can't make this stuff up) the lack of organization and excuses the "Manager" makes when they mess something up is unacceptable. Even worse when you allow it and they do it again in the same day! Manager Eric B screwed us over and blames it on other staff. Excuses given by Eric B. "They are members" -so was the friend i was with "I just got here" "The guy helping you is now on break" "Your next in 30 min" "Actually I don't know how much longer it will be" "They had a reservation" In the end we just left. 5 hours wasted and in the end we end up not getting a lane. Can't commit and waste more of my day. The lack of updating is frustrating to say the least! Was considering a membership but definitely don't see an advantage to it. read more

Went here for the first time last week and it was worth it. The place was clean and what it claimed to be. The only drawback was the lack of knowledge by some of the staff. They just seemed young. The staff at SPB Merrillville are always very helpful. It's great to be welcomed when entering the store, and acknowledged when leaving. A big Shout Out to Aim and Hector for making us feel welcomed during our time at the range. The Shooting Range is VERY well lit, clean, and ventilated. (The AC felt great while we were shooting in our lane). And the Range Officers are very polite and helpful. The Retail Area is roomy, well organized, and always fully stocked. It's extremely clean, and very well taken care of. There's plenty of registers for checkout, which makes purchasing a breeze. SPB Merrillville is a great place to shoot, and a great place to shop. The staff there are very polite and very professional. And when you add the Excellent Training Courses offered on-site... Well, we highly recommend it to anyone both young and old. read more

It's funny to see all the people bashing on this location. I recently moved to Indiana and went here for my first time. The man behind the counter not only stayed with me while purchasing my first fire arm. He showed me several guns, rated them, told me what to and what not to buy, then took me into the range and showed me the proper way of holding/ operating said weapon. I now own 2 pistols and an AR and have gone almost every Sunday ever since to shoot. If you're mad about the business not have 9mm ammo during a pandemic you're clearly a fool. While technically in Indiana, being only an hour outside Chicago basically makes this a Chicago gun range, and it's certainly worthy of a world class city. The building presents itself proudly like a retail store with a very nice parking lot. It's secluded but not in the weeds. You walk-in and are greeted by friendly service and guided to your desired service location in the store. Open floor plan with well organized displays along the wall and shelf displays in the center. The range is as comfortable climate wise as a range can be. The range offers well lit, long distance, and available range staff. We personally shot 223 and 45. It's so nice having an indoor rifle range with a friendly staff to match. read more

This is the nicest indoor shooting range you will find in the area. It fires rifles and pistols and it is new, clean and well ventilated. You have the ability to rent from in an assortment of weapons including rifles. Getting set up in the system to be eligible to rent is a little bit of a pain. I had to pay a $3 setup fee that is good for one year and I had to wait an hour before I could shoot after I did that. Still not sure if that was just to rent or to bring my own weapon as well. Basically just leave and sit in your car for a half hour and then come back in. Stupid policy compared to Blythe's in Valpo were none of that applies. Either way it is great to go in there and do a half hour or hour shooting whether it's your weapon or theirs. I don't remember what their rates are but I remember it being all very reasonable. The staff was pretty knowledgeable in their weapons and helping you out with any questions that you have whether it was going to be a repair custom build or trying to figure out what suits you best. While the Merrillville location doesn't have an Armour on site the Mokena location does and can help you with more advanced issues. Their prices are all very reasonable and for one particular pistol that I have my eye on it is the cheapest out of any store in the area. read more

I do NOT agree with a $3 Liability Waiver good for a year, Shoot Point Blank is the only range in the area that charges for this, WHY should I have to pay you to sign a form that basically states IF something happens I will to sue Shoot Point Blank.
