    They are now open ...
    Rick B.

Glad to have an REI CO-OP in the neighborhood. This REI took over the old Staples big box office supplies store, and easily filled it up with hiking, biking, fitness equipment. Nice location and nice selection of products. Too bad they didn't hold a YELP event with their opening ... would have given them a jump start for the Holiday season. As it is the location is just a bit off the main drag through town. But do look for it as it is worth the stop.

I felt obligated to write this review after Yelp removed my tip. Yelp asked for a more personal…read moreexperience. My tip addressed the slanderous review by Julie S. I've been coming here for several years. Dick's is a large, clean store. I chose to come to Dick's rather than Sports Authority because of the cleanliness and large selection. Now that SA is gone I expect Dick's to continue providing good service and offerings. Dick's has a full range of sporting equipment and apparel. On my most recent trip I purchased several free weights at a competitive price. I've purchased football and baseball gear on many occasions. The apparel is somewhat pricey but look for the occasional sale. I managed to grab Reebok cold weather tights at half price. I also found integrated football pants at half price. Dick's goes beyond the traditional sports. You can get archery equipment and a full range of fishing gear as well. My main criticism of this location is that they do not carry firearms. Also, they used to stock a large inventory of shoes. You had the option of looking for your size. Now you have to work with an associate in the shoe department to find your size. This is a hassle, especially if they are busy, and consequently I now buy my shoes elsewhere. Let's get back to Julie's review. Be aware of people that cry racism at the drop of a hat. These agitators often don't consider the alternatives. Did you walk into the store 10 mins prior to close? Were you loud and obnoxious? Tell me why the associates were allegedly staring at you. Guess what Julie? I've seen plenty of "persons of color" shopping at this location and have never seen any problems. Lots of "persons of color" work here too. And by the way, I don't care if your "friend" wears nice clothing and a Rolex watch. Again, you seem to play the race card at every opportunity. After all, you've slandered the entire Orland Park region in your review. It must have been real tough on you growing up in the mean streets of Orland Park and having to deal with Klan rallies. Please. And by the way, if they are out of cold beer at the liquor store that doesn't make the store racist. Now that I've defended Dick's and the entire Orland Park region from the Julie S'. accusations I'll finish up. Dick's is a fine store. It's not the cheapest place but they carry a wide variety of items. Look for the sales. Plenty of parking on the east side of the store. The lot on the west side is very crowded. It's not perfect but you'll find what you're looking for. The Rewards program is pretty good too. Coupons are not good all everything (i.e. Under Armour) but the rewards certificates that you earn are as good as cash and valid on everything.

Dicks at Orland Park, horrible customer service and inexperience assistant manager. I'm a regular…read moreshopper at Dicks; however, all my purchases are online because they barely have sports shoes (soccer, wrestling, and football) in wide sizes. They are open in a heavily diverse community, but racist towards Middle Easterners, Muslims, and Arabs. I witnessed one of the staff members commenting that "They people be returning their stuff all the time," and continued to make racist remarks, while the staff laughed. The assistant manager or manager is as guilty as the woman. It is as if he is threatened by the racist woman. "If I go down, we all go down" attitude. If you are Middle Eastern, Arab, or Muslim. Do not shop there.

The prices are on par with most other local cop/fire supply stores; that is, they are overly…read moreexpensive. Part of this is because you could paint a turd black, call it tactical, and a cop would buy it. These stores know this. However, the main reason they can be (and are) so expensive is because they know that they are generally selling to people with a uniform allowance or department purchase order; in these professions, that's called "not my money." So people spend 50% more for items than they ever would if it were coming out of their pockets. $80 for a pair of crappy Blauer uniform pants is not unheard of. But since it is the department's money, no one cares. The prices for clothing items here are almost identical to what you would pay at Ray O'Herron, Eagle, JCM in Joliet, JG Uniform on the NW side of Chicago, etc. For the price gouging, I took away one star. Smart people know to buy items like flashlights, holsters, etc. online where they are much cheaper. Where the Tinley Cop Fire Shop stands above and beyond these other stores, all of whom I've used with my department uniform allowance over years of being a cop, is the tailor they have on staff as of 02/13/2019. (I can't remember her name.) She does outstanding work on outer body armor carriers, from the fit to the stitching. She can add molle, embroider your badge/name, or make custom sized pockets for additional charges. One unique service she offers is that she will do a "rush" job on your carrier for $20 to have it in a month, or $40 additional to have it in two weeks (pricing as of the time of this writing). I paid the $40 extra for my carrier and got it in exactly two weeks, with zero errors on it. The material she used is higher quality and more durable than previous carriers I have purchased at all of the previously mentioned businesses. I have waited up to six months for a carrier at Ray O'Herron, constantly getting excuses. They didn't care, because they already had my (department's) money. I know people who have waited longer. So, you'll pay for it at Tinley Cop Fire Shop, but what you get (if getting tailored items) is well worth it. I would give JG Uniform (practically on the opposite side of the world from Tinley, lol) second place. I have no affiliation with any of these business, and am only making my recommendations based on years of using all of them. * PS If you look at other reviews, you will notice that Karen T. only gave one star. You will also notice that Karen T. gives EVERYTHING one star; that is, she is an internet complainer who only leaves negative reviews. I'm surprised Yelp doesn't monitor this.
