I go to Dicks often maybe 1-2 times a month for ammo and fishing gear and other various items. I had ordered a shotgun from the gun department in the back and it never came in, I was never notified or anything, I have also waited 30-45 mins in the back for a little box of ammo. They need a couple employees back there sometimes, its just funny because I have been willing to spend 1000s of dollars on guns an ammo but have walked out due to waiting and being skipped after asking for help. read more

Unfortunately, I think they are pricey and they really don't have anything that Sports Authority or other shops don't have. This store has the worst customer service ever and rude unprofessional employees an managment. We bought a softball batting helmet with face guard. My child used it an i was not aware it needed bolts wich did Not come with it weird?? Well we buy the bolts another trip to dicks ugh. Well they dont fit or work with helmet. Horrible customer service. Bought a raft for the boat and asked the woman if it tore or had issues if we can bring it back, she said yes no problem. Well the raft tore and we brought it back 3 days later and she threw a big fit said "she can't re sale this and they can't take it back" SAME EXACT WOMAN WHO SAID WE COULD 3 DAYS BEFORE!!! After waiting and arguing over 30 minutes they finally took it back and refunded us. Just ridiculous and rude people who don't know how to do their job and honor their return program. read more

I went into the store to purchase some football pants for my grandson, I expected a hassle-free trip since I called and requested they be placed on hold at the register for me. Upon arriving I found that nothing had been placed on hold for me & no one was willing to help me look for the pants, so I asked if they could at least show me where they were located and several associates pointed in the direction that they were in, so I walked out and went across the street to Big 5 where customer service is exceptional. read more

I was excited for Dick's Sporting Goods to come into our area, I've heard so many great things. I don't think Modesto got the full experience from Dick's, from what I've heard other parts of the country have a lot bigger stores than the one Modesto got. I think you can find all the basics from any sport, but nothing you couldn't get from Sports Authority, I actually think Sports Authority is superior in selection. If the customer service was good it might get 3 or 4 stars, but no chance there. I was looking at shoes, and had a employee literally stand and stare at the wall for 10 minutes without asking me for help. When I did ask if they had any other sizes, I got a quick "that's all we have" response. Oh well, I'll be shopping at Sports Authority next time I need something. read more

First let me say they should have a zero star selection. i have shopped at dicks in modesto hundreds of times but this was my first and last time i will buy a firearm from this location. When i first went and purched my gun it was no big deal just some paperwork and paid for it and was out the door. The next day i got a call that the employee had me fill out the wrong section of the paper work so i had to come back in and refill out all the paperwork so now the 10 days starts over . Not a big deal i can wait an extra day . When the 10 days was up i went to pick up my firearm and aparently dicks sporting goods are the only place in california that holds a gun for 11 days not 10 so once again was turned away and told to come back tomorrow . I returned the next day to pick up my gun and as soon as i got home with it ,dicks sporting goods is calling like crazy ans they didnt charge me for my background check and i need to return immediately to pay for it (i live almost 45 minutes away so its a trip each time) . This is now trip 4 back to dicks sporting good all for a 200$ gun. Now a month after i brought the gun home they are now sending me letters and calling me daily because some paperwork was filled out wrong AGAIN and not only do i need to drive all the way back to the store. i have to surrender the gun for another 11 days while they run my paperwork and background check for a third time and not even a single apology for all the mistakes. Nick was very rude in the gun section as well. Get your shit together dicks sporting goods you just lost another good paying customer. Went to Dick's Sporting Goods today to purchase some golf cleats. I want to echo the sentiments of many others who have reviewed this sporting goods store. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!! You have to stand in line for 20 minutes watching 1-2 clerks check people out, and there are 5-6 other Dick's employees wandering around doing who knows what. Then, when I checked out, the clerk was a short-haired woman who's face would probably crack if she smiled or said hello. Did not even offer to put my items in a bag, so I grabbed a bag and did it myself. From now on I will either go to Walmart (they had the items there) or shop Amazon. My family has always gone to DICK's whenever we needed new tennis shoes or new gym apparel. We have never had a problem here in terms of customer service until yesterday. My mother purchased a pair of shoes but when we got home, she noticed that the cashier did not take off the security tag. The strangest part of the whole thing was when we walked out of the store, the store security scanners did not beep at all. We simply walked out of the store initially satisfied with the purchase that we had just made. My parents and I were angry about the whole thing because we had just gotten home. We weren't in the house for at least five minutes yet and then there came a need to drive back to the store. So, my parents sent me to the store and complain. The awful part of this situation was that since this store is located in Modesto and we live in Manteca, I had to drive back and forth. I was already exhausted from spending my day shopping at Modesto and traffic began to build up from when we first left this store to when I had to drive back to the store and complain to the manager. When I walked in, I asked a gentleman for the manager. He simply said, "She's right over there." He pointed to two ladies working at one register. One was wearing a black shirt and the other was wearing a purple shirt. I asked if the manager was the one in the black shirt and the man said the manger was the one in the purple shirt. Then he made a remark by saying, "I know my colors." I took that as being treated a bit disrespectfully. I just asked if the manager was the one wearing a black shirt. He didn't have to make that rude remark towards me. He could have answered a bit nicer. But I shoved that aside and told the manager about how the security tag was still on the shoes, the store's security scanners never beeped, and how my family and I live in Manteca and why it was such a hassle driving from Manteca to Modesto when we just got back home from Modesto. Plus, I mentioned how we were not even five minutes in the house when my mother noticed it. The manager apologized, took the security tag off, and looked at the receipt to see who the cashier that took care of us was. She said that she'll talk to him, but she didn't seem to care how distressed I was. This has got to be the worst customer service I have ever received from this DICK's Sporting Goods store and after this experience, I do not know if I will ever return to this store and purchase anything else again. read more

Great store BUT Manager Betty is very stereotypical. Ruined my Christmas!! I had visited the store early on Christmas Eve to buy my father a gift and returned with my buddies who also wanted to purchase something for their dad. As soon as I walk in we are being followed and within a minute of being there we were asked to leave the store. Baffled we asked why and her response was to call the cops if we didn't leave. We asked if we resembled someone who stole from their store and she agreed, so we decided to wait in order to clear up our names with the officers. So me and my buddies waited outside the store for nearly an hour (in the rain) and I finally asked if she did call or was bluffing. She said she did but I don't believe so given her insecurity "if they actually show up" response so she basically lied to us and ruined our Christmas because by that time all other stores had closed as well! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. UNDERSTAFFED. DO NOT BUY FIREARMS FROM HERE. They do not explain to you their policy of an 11 day waiting period between purchasing and actually obtaining your firearm despite the California State Law that only requires a 10 day waiting period. Being there on the 10th day, way after the time of purchase, got me sent home with an apology and 3 free boxes of ammo because they knew they were wrong for not making that policy clear. Besides that, on the second attempt to pick up the shotgun that was paid for in full, with all paperwork finalized and receipt provided, they had a tiny sign on the glass counter of the firearms department that said they could not release or sell any firearms at this time due to an issue with the ONE register in that department. The manager admitted that they hadn't contacted IT support yet and the issue would not be resolved for several days. When my husband asked why we didn't receive notice of such an inconvenience, the manager said it's because there is no way of knowing or tracking who is supposed to be picking up their gun. That is just LAZY, stupid and I'm sure ILLEGAL if they have no way of keeping track of such things. Frustrated, we asked for a full refund. In that huge store, it seemed they only had 3-4 people working on that busy night, 2 out of 4 knew how to operate a register, 1 out of 4 had access to returns, refunds, answers, etc. The manager asked my husband what the situation was and then defensively argued with him, obviously without any knowledge of gun laws. RUDE. Don't be fooled by their aesthetically pleasing storefront and 100% jacked up prices. Big 5 and Amazon carry the same things for a lot less along with super nice and helpful customer service. read more

Came in here after terrible experience at Big 5. Was greeted immediately. Went to purchase football cleats for my son. The saleman was so helpful. Explained the differences between this and that cleat. Measured my sons foot and made sure he was comfortable in what he chose. Had my 3 other kids with me and the manger was letting them try out the excersize equipment while I was shopping. They had a blast here. The cashier Analisa was super friendly and funny. I definitely recommend this place. It clean, organized, bright and friendly. You may pay a bit more but I don't mind for the great service. Purchased two kayaks online went to store to pick up and purchase other items. Asked to charge without my charge card and was told they could not do so. In the meantime they showed in the computer that I had received the kayaks before I had even seen the merchandise. At this time asked that they refund my purchase of the kayaks that I made online thru PayPal. Still waiting to date two weeks later for this to happen. I called dicks sporting goods on line center and ordered a NFL Dallas Cowboys jersey for my husband I went with a 2 day shipping for 18.00 I decided to change the shipping method so I called their 1-800 number and spoke to a representative, He told Me that he couldn't change my order but what he could do is cancel my order completely and reorder I Let him do what he recommended. later on in the day I checked my bank statement and noticed that they charged me for the first order which he said he canceled for 263.54 and for the second order of 243.53 a total of 507.00 I called them once again and they apologized for the inconvenience and offered me a 10% discount on my next purchase and they refused to credit my account back so now I have 2 Jerseys coming in the mail and I wont get my money back until I ship Them Back and the warehouse receives them which can take up to 7-10 days or more I am not happy with their service and I will Never shop with dicks again. My husband and I went to Dick's Sporting Goods looking for bicycles. When we walked in the store we were not welcomed or greeted by the young lady standing up front. We found the bicycles and in the 15 minutes we stood there looking at options, no one asked if we needed help or had any questions. Matter of fact, there was a sales associate who walked right bu us multiple times without saying anything. There were also 3 young guys in the department right next to us more interested in yucking it up and laughing than helping customers (yes, they were employees). We finally left even though we had picked out a bike, and only at our leaving did someone finally say "good-bye". Yep, no good buy here, had a purchase ready to roll with and couldn't find any help. Maybe Dick's should work on their employee/customer interactions instead of advertising their mission to have lower prices. Doesn't matter what kind of deal if you can't even get a sales associate to say HELLO. read more
