I had a very satisfying experience here the other day. I accidentally left my binoculars at home, and I was headed off to do some nature watching. I considered my options and decided to buy a set of binoculars to leave in my vehicle, provided I could find them at a reasonable price. At Dick's, I found a case which indeed contained optics, and among the off-brands, found two pairs of Nikons, both priced lower than the nearby W***m***, and one of better quality. The very helpful salesperson allowed me to open the boxes and look through both. I was able to make a selection and I was very happy with it. Horrendous. Horrible Experience There Today. Buyer Beware. Went To Dick's To Buy Some Shoes For My Son. The ( 40% OFF SALE ) Signs Caught Our Eye, Like They Are Supposed To Do. We Found A Pair That We Thought That Our Son Would Like. We Found A Pair In His Size. They Had Various Sizes From 1 - 7 Stacked Below & Above The Displayed Shoes. We Asked An Employee To Scan It Because There Was Not A Single Price Tag On Any Of The Boxes. On The Sign There Was A Price Range. ( Who Does That? ). So He Told Us The Original Price & Then The Sale Price. It Didn't Add Up To 40% Off. We Walked Through The Store Picking Up More Items. When The Cashier Rang Up The Shoes It Did Not Take The Sale Price Off, It Only Took Off 25%. We Told Him That Was Not What Was Advertised. He Failed To Believe Us, So We Followed Him Back There To Show Him The Sale Sign. He Pointed To Really Small Fine Print That Said ( SIZES 1, 3, 4 1/2 ). There Was NOT The Words ( ONLY IN THESE SIZES ... ) The Employee Stated That The Sign MEANT Only In Those Specific Sizes. I Asked For A Store Manager. He Arrived & We Questioned Him About The Sale Signs & How They Are Completely Misleading. Well He Was A Big Waste Of Our Time. All He Did Was Parrot The First Employee. I Always Thought That A Manager/Supervisor Was To Explain Better Than A Regular Cashier & To Solve A Problem. He Solved Nothing. He Was Useless. He Would Had Been More Productive In The Store If His Boss Gave Him A Broom To Sweep The Floors After Closing Time. They Stuck By Their Fine Print & Walked Away. Obviously He Did Not Care About The Sale Or Us As Customers. It Seemed To Us That They Could Not Care About Making The Sale. So We Walked Out, Not Getting The Sale. For As Few Customers That Were Walking Through That Spacious Store You Would Think They Would Try To Get EVERY Sale Instead Of Haggling Over 15%. My Advice To ANYONE That Will Foolishly Shop There & Want To Purchase ANYTHING That Has A Sale Sign Next To It, Make Sure You Read The Fine Print. Some Signs May Say ( SALE ONLY GOOD ON DAYS THAT HAVE THE LETTER 'X' IN IT ) Unbelievable. read more

Lots of sporty things for all your adventures! They have everything from camping gear to workout clothing and everything in-between! This is a hair late but I want to do a shout out for them on Thursday after Thanksgiving shopping. EVERY register was open. Lines moved fast and there was not a single employee standing around. I purchased a Trampoline which they put up front and waited while I checked out. Then stood out front while my husband drove in from Lebanon to pick it up. In the rush and stress of shopping I left a bag behind with my husband's gift in it. I didn't realize until the next day and I could not go pick it up. I sent my husband in. They wrapped it up and tied it shut so he could not see what is in it. Every person in that store was wonderful to deal with even though they left thier family to work for the crazy shoppers. 100% impressed. read more

I haven't been a fair of Dicks since they took over GI Joes. You can't find anyone to help you, everything is way overpriced. They don't really have sale because you are getting the product for the normal price. They clothing doesn't have a good range of sizes. Also they don't sell semi auto rifles anymore because of the sandy hook shooting. They do sell the ammo and magazines for those type of firearms. I don't like company that let the media push them around. read more

If not for the Golf Department, I would give this store 2 stars. Tim is a knowledgeable, helpful, friendly gentleman of the kind you don't meet in customer service anymore. He recently helped me shorten a golf club and select a new grip. He treated my $16 purchase like it was important, and never once belittled me for being a beginner. He has a real passion for the game that is contagious. I will definitely come see him again as my game progresses. They are *very* lucky to have him there... The rest of the kids that work at Dick's are either mouthy and smarmy or just plain lazy. It's obvious to me the morale at the store is fairly low. Most of the clothing is overpriced. I did used to buy ammo here when it was on sale and I have also bought a very nice tennis racquet last summer, but I did all of my own research as the staff knows nothing. read more

If it wasn't for the golf section, I would've gave this a 1 or 2 star review. The store is your general sporting goods store. Nothing spectacular or amazing deals when I went. Now to the golf section! The pro that runs the golf section is amazing! Although he seemed very busy, he took the time to actually talk to us and let us demo a couple drivers and monitored our swings and distances. That to me was the true meaning of superior customer service! If I do come back here, it'll definitely be because of the golf pro there! read more

I didn't notice the small print for the on sale golf grip (not available in all stores). And of course, the store I went to had them, but not at the advertised price, (I doubt any of their stores have them at the sale price). It was an obvious come-on to attract the unwary! First time I visited a "Dick's" and was surprised by the emptiness of the store, and not impressed by the service, nor their expertise. The manager of this store TRAVIS has terrible customer Service! Went in to buy some golf items. Found some new shoes to buy and they were labeled on the shoe themselves $79 but when I went to the cashier he said they were $179, so the manager came out and I showed him what the label said and he said oh that's just a different label from a different department they are actually $179 .. and I began to say well why are they mis-labeled and he did not seem to care much at all! This place is AWFUL!!!!! Literally walked around the whole store looking for a specific item they carry. One employee had no clue and just guessed where they would be then disappeared. Walked around the store for TWENTY MINUTES whistling yelling that I'm trying to purchase something to one associate looking at me and walking the other way to the back. I often find what I need here. However, do not hold anything and look at it, as Security gets very concerned. I almost didn't go there today as Security makes it an uncomfortable place to shop. I don't know why some stores feel fine to shop in, whilst a handful get me thinking about avoiding them and shopping elsewhere. Also, watch out for very fine print on their price signs..one item led a person to believe there was a clearance sale item for a dollar..instead..it meant a dollar off. read more

Just bought a bike here yesterday, super pretty place with all of the beautiful sports wear. They do offer many price points and sales. We ended up buying a high end bike. Not real fond of the employee in that section. Seemed he didn't know much about the bikes or bike hitches. He stumbled over his words and hovered over us while we were trying to look. Worst service of any Dicks store in the greater Portland area! Rude sales staff and not willing to help even though their inventory was lacking and we had to encourage them to help us find the closest store with the shoe we needed. Cashier was less than professional and even used language not appropriate. Disappointing to say the least. read more

Wander around the store trying to find a salesperson without any luck. Finally find one to ask a question and they do not know if they have an item. This has happened before in this store. At first it looks very spendy with everything being "top name brand" Under Armor, Nike, The North Face, Spyder...but when you look further in, there are plenty of really decent sales, such as 50% off clearance. I got a $70 jersey for $25 and a Spyder zip up for $17 originally $119! Associates were friendly as were the Cashiers. The line looks intimidating, but it moves VERY fast. read more

Store, and I have purchased my complete Set of Golf Clubs, Bag, Balls, Shoes, Apparel and All the accessories that go along with this crazy game we play. About a year ago my Wife went with me when we were shopping for something @ Dick's and I knew I was in trouble when every store associate called me by my first name. My wife had found me out? and she has not let me forget it to this day. I must say that the recognition level from the associates does make one feel very special and each and every time I have gone into the store everyone goes out of their way to make you feel that way. I cannot speak for all the other sections other than the Golf Section but the treatment that I receive is tremendous, and I would recommend that if you are looking for any sport tool, Apparel or accessory of any nature to certainly go to Dick's Sporting Goods @ Salem, Or. The fishing Dept. needs to hire people that know the sport. A couple years ago I found sales people that were knowlegdeable in this dept. Of course they were older guys that assisted me and was able to answer all of my questions. In the last couple years "nobody" there has been able to answer any of my questions. It reminds me of going to a gas station now a days and asking for directions...........it's non-existant. read more
