Blake was very helpful and brought us the shoes that Tamera said they didn't have! What are the odds! Lol!!! When another customer asked what her problem was we agreed she was little nasty! There was a range in terms of brands, styles and prices to choose from. An honest, customer-oriented and knowledgeable store associate at the boxing department was available. He assisted me effectively in choosing the best pair of female boxing gloves within my budget. The ability to try those training gloves on my hands was crucial for a perfect fit. Then, I found those exact same boxing gloves $15 dollars cheaper at Amazon.com with free shipping on my iPhone. After verification, the efficient cashier Juan matched the Amazon price immediately. Thus, I purchased all my fitness gear at Dick's sporting goods. I will buy more fitness gear as my skills in Krav Maga and boxing will ramp up. Dick's sporting goods has been my go-to store for fitness gear. I like also there has been a loyalty program. I heard so many good things about Dick's as a corporation, but this branch is under par for both their layout and customer service. We came in to browse, but quickly realized there were things we wanted to buy, so I went back to get a shopping cart. Their shopping carts are in the area between the external main entrance and the automatic interior doors, and their store layout is such that you cannot go back out the entrance. You have to navigate through the checkout line in order to exit into the area between the external main entrance and the automatic doors, just so you can get a cart. The lady at the register rather bruskly yelled that I couldn't go that way, and that I would have to (broadly gestures to the exit door) go around. The first possible path to the exit was a dead end, and she yelled, "No, this way." Finally, I got out, got the cart, and came back inside. After a bit of shopping, I needed to go to the bathroom. The only helpful and polite person I encountered in the store was the lady who gave me directions to the bathroom. Once I got there, the door was blocked with a wet floor sign. I went inside, stepping carefully so as not to slip, and the janitor looks at me with a confused expression. I ask him which stall is okay for me to use, and he says, "Ummm... that one, but you're not supposed to be in here." So, what... did they want me to poop on the floor instead? After that, we searched around their haphazard store layout, with crowded mid-aisle standalone endcaps and screwy arrows on the floor to direct the traffic pattern. We found what we wanted and headed to the register. The same lady who shouted at me before was reasonably helpful as a cashier. We got done with our shopping, paid, and left, very grateful to be getting away from there. Honestly, I think the only reason I might go back to this Dick's is if I need to return something defective from our purchase. Stopped in this location to buy some coaching supplies for baseball & soccer--dry erase boards to write down the lineup & plays. Three different store employees told me wrong information; and then I finally found it on my own. The first guy didn't want to be bothered with helping out anyone who wasn't female. So he told the second guy that it was all in the basketball section. The second guy told two different guys that I was looking for supplies for football. Never once did I say football. Then the third guy said that they didn't have them for the sports I was looking for. I then went around and looked on my own again. Our family's recent visit to Dick's Sporting Goods was excellent! All the employees on staff were helpful in finding what we needed, while providing great customer service. Amazing place to buy stuff for sports, snowy weather or any event. There are many varieties and offers to choose from. The store is very well kept and it is easy to find items you are looking for. Literally the best customer service I've ever experienced, hands down. And a staff member stayed with us for over an hour helping us choose the right ones and thoroughly explaining everything along the way. I totally view them as my #1 sporting goods store - and occasionally you can come across some coupons. They've got a nice variety depending on cost, too: so if your kid is going to start playing a new sport and you're not sure they're gonna stick with it - you can buy the cheaper stuff. If your kid's a pro and going to play for many years - you can buy the better quality stuff. All around good options. Need to visit a DICK'S Sporting Goods? Save your time/energy and go elsewhere. First, I called to put some shoes on hold I was on the phone for about 30 minutes because no one was able to pick up the phone. Then finally someone answered the phone, I got transferred to the shoe department and that took another 30 minutes for someone else to answer...annoying! FINALLY, Scott answers the phone and I specifically told him the shoes I wanted to place on hold. He said "he had the shoes" and would put them on hold for me. Again, I SPECIFICALLY described the shoe and Scott "confirmed" that he had the correct shoes. Again, I told him I live 1.5 hours away and I really need them to be the correct shoes again, he confirms the shoe. I DROVE for almost two hours I get there and what do you know...THOSE WERE NOT THE CORRECT SHOES!!! Guess I didn't make myself clear?!? Worst customer service!! Went to purchase a bicycle today. Very limited stock on the floor unless you are buying an overpriced mountain bike and are 6 ft. tall. Help - Is it abuse? What should I do to prevent it? I would not like to see this happening to any other children. In the morning of June 19, I took my son(9yr) and my daughter(13yr) to the store getting a bicycle for my son. We were so excited, and he was going to upgrade the kiddy bike to a big kid bike with brakes on handles. Since I did my research, I asked the Sales, Mike, to try the 20"Wheel bike for my son. Mike had my son on the seat and holding the front wheel with his two legs. He asked my son to step down on the bar. Their faces were around 10" apart. He said to my son "THIS IS TOO BIG FOR YOU!" With all the respect, I asked "Can we have him try it here, I think that it could be the right size. Or can he grow into it?" Mike, again, ignored me and said to my son directly, looking down to my son's face, "OH NO, THIS IS TOO BIG FOR YOU, YOU MAY DIE, OR YOU WILL GET HURT!" I thought he must be joking for a second, although he was very serious. Instantly, my son got off the bike and said to me nervously "I don't need it, it's too big. I don't want a bigger bike anymore, I will get hurt!" I tried to be as calm as possible so that I don't scare my son anymore. I asked Mike "what would you recommend?" He pointed to the kiddy bike in the boxes to us. Right away, I said "Thank you for your help, we are done today." However, I realized that I had to speak up. I said "Sir, I respect what you do, however, you could never ever tell a child -You may die and get hurt!" There was another employee on the side the entire time. Then Mike, seemed to be offended deeply, raised his voice to me saying "My wife and I had two kids and they are all grown up, etc.... " He would not stop talking, and nothing was relevant at that point. Both of my kids were upset with me. My son was really shaken at that point. I said to Mike while walking away " That is ok, Mike, that is ok...trying to stop him from talking behind me louder and louder." By then, my kids thought that Mike was the expert, and my son could die if he used the bigger bike. Until we passed by the bike buying guide in the store. He run over to measure himself, than my kids were convinced, the 20"wheel that my son tried, was even almost too small for him (he is 9 yr). Now, my son refuses to buy another bike that fits his size, although he is too big for his old kiddy bike. I understand that everyone makes mistakes. I didn't blame the business at all at the beginning. However, I demand any business to stop any employees that may potentially discourage or mentally abuse kids. As a mother, I couldn't stand that people like Mike could scare away another child from learning new activities. We all know how hard it is already to encourage our kids to learn something new like biking. I expect all businesses try their best to resolve issues like this. I am a business owner myself. However, we contacted the store, corporate office for answers. NO ONE FROM DICK'S SPORTING GOODS HAS RESPONDED! They simply recorded my experience and said they would get back to me. The customer service at this place is a zero. We bought a NIKE backpack which literary fell apart. There was some kind of wire "popping out" of the seam and it needed to be exchanged. When we went to customer service, they didn't even want to hear about the problem and referred us to NIKE. Why do we have to go thru a third party to get an exchange or refund? It's amazing how these chains stay in business. If we were to have bought the item on Shop Bop or Amazon, the item would be exchanged or refunded immediately, no questions asked. I bought nishiki bike for my kid. They did safety check before giving it to me. The next day my kid told me the handle bar was not fixed properly, breaks were not working properly. When I called store they asked me to stop by to get it fixed. When I went there they said 2 week wait time to fix and I need to drop the bike at their location. Asked them to book appointment without keeping bike. But store manager Racheal didn't let me and said they operate that way. She was so rude. 5 stars for PROFILING! I came in around Noon today to exchange a Nike workout shirt that was too small. Usually when I walk into a Dicks Sporting Goods to exchange an item, I end up buying a handful of shirts, golf equipment, or shoes. This usually benefits them, right? I walked in, and informed one of the cashiers that I was going to exchange a shirt. Instead of standing in line, I simply walked over to the Nike clothing section and started perusing through the shirts. Within...maybe 2 minutes, I noticed a plain clothes security clerk with earbuds going through his shirt. He was making a pathetic attempt at being discreet. It was blatantly apparent that he was following me. Pissed, I walked up to him, and he turned around and starting to walk away, as he knew that I caught on to his ignorant "surveillance." He acted dumb, and I continued to follow him. I wanted him to feel like the dumbass that he is, so he'd refrain from driving out paying customers in the future. When I checked out, I noticed that this security clerk was still staring at me. 1 star for the friendly cashier. Horrible selection, and by far, the worst Dicks I've ever been in. Dick's Sporting Goods stores in general are always somewhat disappointing and this location is worse than most. It's a smaller store, so they have limited inventory and they stick closely to MSRP prices, which in this day and age, is brick-and-mortar suicide. Many other big box stores like Target and Wal-Mart have adopted aggressive online price-match policies to encourage people to make purchases in their physical stores, but Dick's is apparently happy to let shoppers go elsewhere. Even talking directly to their hardlines manager is a waste of time -- they just don't care about making a sale and are poor merchants in that regard. Dick's is unwilling to even consider price-matching authorized retailers like backcountry.com and moosejaw.com, let alone someplace like amazon.com. Sorry Dick's, you need to try harder to get my business. Compare this business to someplace like Abt Electronics in Glenview (different merchandise of course) and you'll quickly see the difference between a family-owned business willing to do whatever it takes to make a sale (Abt) and an anonymous big-box retailer who doesn't really care at all (Dick's). Abt salesmen quickly and willingly pull up competitors' websites to check prices and instantly match (or beat) them. Dick's won't even consider it. read more

Definitely have been to better Dick's. The guy at the front door looked like he was ready to get off work, even though it was still like 1.5 hr before they close. I almost thought they had closed because the worker was standing right by the front doors, acting like he was blocking off more customers from coming in. Not easy to flag a staff down for help here. The store is also sort of disorganized. No clear clearance section, clearance scattered everywhere. Bathroom here is a mess inside. Finally found someone to help me picking out a pair of running shoes, he was very spacey and keeps forgetting my size. I've definitely had better experiences elsewhere. read more

Dick's had a great selection of workout apparel and gear! I'm a big runner and definitely need dry wick shirts and shorts to hold in all my sweat after my long runs. Dick's selection of Nike running apparel is great. Also, I like how the brands are grouped together and that the clearance section is clearly marked and organized. Also, they carry a huge array of running shoes and socks. Unfortunately, I'd rather give my business to a local running store and get fitted. But nonetheless, great place to buy running shoes if you know what you want and don't need any help. I have had friendly service every time I've been there, but something was off during my last visit. My only qualm was that neither sales associate on my last visit even bothered to greet me and ask me how I was doing and if I needed any help. I most certainly did since I think the particular type of workout shirt I wanted had been discontinued. They both seemed to be too preoccupied with putting away the clothes from the fitting rooms than greeting and helping the customers. I've worked in retail before and I get it, but they could have at least said "Hi" to me. Also, the cashier who rang up my purchase was not that friendly either and looked displeased to be working there. But, eh, these two issues, I would definitely be back. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I am in need of cross training shoes and I need a lot of help finding them. I have specific issues with my feet and saw on their website that DICK'S Sporting Goods had a expert working there to help me find shoes. Well there was no expert there. A teenager came up to me and said what do you need and when I started to explain it he walked me over to a wall of shoes and said these are our cross trainers. When I asked him for more help he showed me to the most expensive shoes and said these last the longest. When I explained that I have high arches and my feet tend to go out to the side and I need support he's told me that don't worry these will stretch out and maybe you just need our inserts. This Dicks Sporting Goods is very nice. But the prices on everything is all jacked up! I couldn't even find a clearance section anywhere! Also they had a golf section that looked cool and it was very entertaining to see it. Also they have batting cages where anybody want to practice hitting or pitching baseballs. The store manager told me the sunglasses I purchased could not have been sold scratched, oblivious to the irony that he'd carelessly left his giant wooden mop leaning against other sunglasses in the same open spinning rack of sunglasses just before talking to me. Be extremely careful and look at every tiny detail of anything before you purchase from Dicks. If you notice any problem after you leave, you will not get your money back. We stopped in to check out the ski gear, weight selection, and heart rate monitors. First impression was that the store seemed very unorganized. It looked like that morning had been a Black Friday sale. The shelves were lacking any selection or any quality products as far as the ski gear goes. There were only fitbits for heart rate monitors. I wasn't looking for a fancy one - just a simple one that does the job. There wasn't a very good representation of a variety of products. The weights were kind of tucked away so I walked right past them the first time. Didn't interact with anyone really except the cashier. I purchased a treadmill from them and when they refused to bring the crate that was 350lb inside of the garage and just wanted to leave it out I refused the delivery. Not to mention the assembly that would we not until the following week. So I would have a crate sitting in the middle of my driveway for a week. Now they are not issuing my refund and just throwing me around. Do not buy anything from a company that has no customer service. I went in to pick up a few things a couple of weekends ago and It was "interesting" to say the least. I was looking for some clubs for my wife, but the Golf guy was on lunch. After asking a few employees if anyone else knew about Golf, they called the manager named Bob over to help me. My experience with Bob was a bit scary. He was very high strung and constantly ducking out of our conversation to talk on his walkie talkie. I didn't end up buying anything golf related because Bob was a little to hard to deal with. I did end up grabbing a couple t shirts and I did mention my experience to who looked like a supervisor near the checkout. I am appalled at the service I just received at your Gurnee Il store. The district or regional manager needs to get in there and train Adrian the "manager", who's attitude towards his employee and customer was horrendous and allowed a $250 sale to walk out the door. He was condescending to the cashier Barack, who was professional and empathetic. I tried to purchase a ping pong table for my children's birthday and when Barack asked Adrian very politely how we would go about getting the table after I had already paid for it, Adrian was rude and said, it's probably in back and you should have checked stock before you rang it up, we don't carry stock on that item. He told Barack to refund me without even trying to do anything to save the sale, apologize to me as the customer or show any type of leadership to a young employee. There was zero attempt to offer another solution. When I asked if it could be ordered and shipped to me Adrian said, yeah you can but you will need to pay the shipping charge and do it yourself online. I asked what if it was shipped to the store. Adrian stated, you can but it would be a special order. When I asked how long it would take, he stated, I have no idea. How many other sales are you losing because of this person and how many polite professional employees will you lose because of his poor and condescending attitude ? Up until today, I loved shopping at your stores and was excited to see one open in Gurnee bit after my experience I will be reluctant to shop with you again and definitely not in Gurnee as long as Adrian is in management. read more

Is it possible to give NO Stars? I went into the store this morning. Granted I figured it was going to be mayhem in there. I found a woman's cubs sweater had a red ticket on it priced 48.98. I asked the worker, her name was Jackie, if they would honor the price as it was error on their part. She right away said no! Not even trying to get a manager involved.. I told her I wanted to speak to a manager. She called a manager over her head piece and instead of going to a manager she just stood there. After I finally asked he if she was getting a manager she just said yes I paged one. Still 10 minutes went by and no manager. She she supposedly went to the back to get a manager. Let me echo other customer service complaints. Trying to buy some training shoes should be very simple. One CSR who was there kept rushing past us in too big a hurry to help. The second literally walked down an extra aisle around us to avoid talking with us.
