I've been shopping at this store for years and they experience has always been great. It seems to be a busy store but they juggle the customers well, while also being patient. I've taken my 80 year old mother in and they were beyond patient with her, the only negative was the fitting for her was WAY OFF! It caused a slow down in fitting because the size was way too small so everything hurt her feet until we found the correct size and shoe. Numerous times I've been lucky enough to be helped by Noel and he's always so polite and efficient. He offers suggestions and is able to bring out multiple shoes at once. He will walk away but check back allowing for me to try on shoes at my pace and not feel rushed. He's truly an asset and appears to lead by example for his fellow co-workers. The return policy and VIP program are definitely worth it. It's hard to grasp it at first but in the end, it's worth the price for the rewards. I've returned shoes and socks within the 90 day window and it's the easiest process and no questions are ever asked. Today there was an error on my receipt that I noticed after checkout. I called Noel to talk about it and it appears to be a computer issue that I need to fix with the corporate office. He gave me the corporate phone number and his email just in case I need further assistance after I call corporate. I've always received great customer and will for sure continue to shop at this store. read more

I'm a VIP Family member and wanted to treat my son to a new pair of running shoes and an evaluation. They were busy and the greeter informed me that it might be a while since we were getting the running evaluation. As we were waiting, we were not sure how long it was going to take so we decided to just buy a pair of shoes and so an evaluation some other time. We went looking for the person that greeted us and she said she still couldn't help as she is not authorized to ring someone up. So I asked, "I just want to buy shoes, so I have to wait until they are done with their customers? She said yes. I walked up to a guy and asked, can you just ring me up? He stated, "I'm going to ring up this customer and you will have to wait until one of the associates are done as I have 3 other customers. So, I just walked out and they didn't get a sale. What that associate could have done was - "I can ring you up after I ring up this customer!" I wish they had someone hat can just ring up customers that just want to buy and go. I was not going to wait for who knows how long just to buy a shoe. I won't go to this location anymore and just order online since I have a discount with my membership. Road runner sports was a really great experience. I enjoyed the technology used in the store to help get a good understanding of the needs of your feet. Other running stores that I have been to have a much lower selection of shoe brands than I was able to see here. There were plenty of brands and options to choose from. But when I came back with a pair that didn't fit and caused discomfort, I was suddenly told that returns are only allowed for VIP members -- something no one mentioned before. Instead of helping, the staff basically shrugged and suggested I just keep shoes I can't even wear. This is unacceptable. Footwear isn't a one-size-fits-all product -- sometimes you don't know they're wrong for your feet until you wear them a bit. Now I'm left with an expensive reminder of how little this store cares about its customers. If you're thinking about shopping here, I strongly suggest you reconsider. I identifed a pair of ASICS I wanted to try on, pretty standard request by a customer, and the associate informed me that they would need 'size me' first. I politely declined and asked if I could proceed with trying on the pair of shoes that I was interested and I was denied. The reason from the associate, "We need to size you so we can place you in the right shoe. These shoes have different fits and we don't want you to damage your feet. You can buy without trying on." Similar to what others have written about their customer service experience, I also had a poor encounter with their sales person. My staff person's name was Demetrice. I was checking out after he retrieved shoes that I reserved through the service Locally. I drove over one hour to pick up the footwear. During the checkout process I was asked for my phone number which I provided. I indicated that I did not have an account with them. Demetrice stated that in order for him to provide me with a receipt, I would need to be an account holder. He stated that he can bypass the prompt for me to register for an account, but it would not allow me to have a receipt. I stated how that didn't make since and how I've never heard of needing to provide personal information just to have a proof of purchase document. I also stated that it seems I would have no choice but to provide the information so I am able to return the shoes in the chance there was an issue with them. He stated there was no way for me to get a receipt without signing up. I told him to do whatever he needed to do in order for me to have a receipt. I then asked him if he understood my frustration in having to provide personal information just to prove I purchased the shoes. He stated that he did not understand why I would care and stated that I was being hostile. It should be noted that I communicated with a monotone voice, and never increased my volume from the low decibel I started with. My communication style was positive and assertive. I told him that I was offended that a customer would be called hostile by simply expressing concerns about their business practices, and asking questions to better understand them. I felt this was an attempt from him to gaslight me. I will never consider shopping at any Road Runner Sports locations again. This was the first and most certainly the last time. To spend almost $200 at their store for this service is ridiculous. read more

I said all I need is shoes and not a Master class on shoe sizing. After trying on a pair of shoes, I left and will NEVER return. Came in on a Tuesday with my fifteen year old who had foot pain so badly we took him in for an X-ray. Nothing broken no bone spurs, came in and Brandon help us understand he was in shoes that were way too small and he needed arch support badly. We were so impressed with how much better my son felt my hubs and I were the first customers through the door on a Saturday morning. Tried on shoes I never would have tried on and got custom insoles in a effort to continue and stave off knee replacement. Well worth the time and cost! Things have changed at this store and I'm not digging it. Outside of the shoes and accessories, everything else in the store is exclusively their private label. They carry a large selection of other brands on their web site, but taking it out of the store was a bad move. I've been running for a long time and know a ton of runners. We're creatures of habit. Once we establish a preference for something we stick with it. You like a brand of socks because you never get blisters in them? Guess which brand you will search the world over to find for eternity? The staff has always been great and if you're new to running or need some advice on getting new shoes, they are definitely a resource. If you elect to go, I suggest you buffer extra time. I was very impressed with the sizing system and realized I was wearing the wrong size. The shoes DJ suggested aligned with what my PT suggested as well and one them worked. We were so impressed with the system that my husband also bought a pair of shoes from DJ when he was properly measured. I typically do not do reviews, however my experience was so poor I had to make other potential customers aware of it. I stopped into Road Runner Sports in Kildeer this past Sunday. I was recommended by a friend of mine who said she had a great shopping experience. When I arrived, it was very busy and all the sales associates were helping other customers. This is where it went south. A man, with a beard, I believe his name was Ross attempted to "help" me and I use the word "help" very loosely because he could not have been more disinterested in helping me. Instead, he peddled me off to another employee who was already helping two other people. This was strange to me as he was literally just standing there idle while the staff ran around like their hair was on fire. Is this how management works here? I certainly hope not, I work in retail, and Ross, if that was indeed his name is more of a boss than leader evidenced by this interaction. I was so offended I said to Ross "I see you will just stand here and let your employees do all the work" and I left without buying anything. Stay away from this place like the plague! I have fairly mixed feelings on this place. They have a good selection and they have good deals of older model running shoes that you can buy at a discount online. I've never done the Shoe Dog fit thing so I can't comment on them finding good shoes for you but I know they love to push the "buy these inserts we custom-made for you" thing. I hate that kind of thing. Because they try to sell them to you for like an outrageous price (I think at least $70) and then when you don't buy them they just throw them away. So wasteful! The stores have a lot of Road Runner Sports branded clothing. Nothing wrong with that and their stuff is good quality stuff, but it is not really any cheaper than buying name brand stuff like Brooks, Under Armour, or Nike. I just expected it to be more affordable. They do have a good assortment of sports bras from Moving Comfort which I really appreciate because I've wanted to check those out for a while. Be forewarned that they are pricey, but very worth it for my fellow larger-chested women. The associates will definitely try to rope you into signing up for the VIP membership. Don't say yes right away for the $20 price tag because I guarantee they will end up giving it to you for free or for like $1.99 the first year. I feel like everything in the store is marked up to account for the 10% VIP discount so stuff is expensive if you aren't a VIP member. They are always running specials for a 20% VIP discount so I never buy things unless they are running a special like that. The next thing is a bit nit-picky, but it is a big pet peeve of mine so I am going to mention it anyways. They will advertise that VIPs will get a 20% discount, but it is actually the 10% VIP discount then a 10% additional discount. If you take 10% off an item and then take an additional 10% off that price, you don't just get to add 10 + 10 = 20%. That is only 19%. And yes, that is only 1% difference. But I think it is false advertising. read more

Went to the store in Deer Park and was helped by Ulises. He helped my mother and I for a very long time. We took the assessment and we both have weird foot issues and hate shopping for shoes so much. We can never find a thing. I have crazy high arches and severe joint pain from autoimmune issues. My mom has high archers and triangular feet so Shoes always fit horribly. After trying on what felt like a thousand shoes, Ulysses was very patient and got us both to buy not one but TWO pairs of shoes we actually LOVE. It was shocking. Already wore them and felt relief from chronic pain. Mom wore hers and nothing hurts her feet. Ulysses was very patient and helpful and really listened to what we needed and wanted. Road Runner Sports in Kildeer was my go-to store for several years (I was even a Family VIP). However it be my destination no longer because they moved into a tiny suite a few doors down from the old location. There was no signage to say this was a temporary situation. The store is now incredibly cramped and light on merchandise. Part of the small space is shoe warehouse storage. But worst of all, my family and I stood in the entry area for over five minutes and not a single employee gave us any attention. We walked out and I don't plan to ever walk back into that space. Save yourself some frustration and go somewhere else. This experience made me discover Dick Pond Athletics in Hoffman Estates which I was happy with. read more

It's 11/27 (just before 7pm) and we drove 40 minutes to get here only to find out it was closed. The store said it closes at 8pm M-F. Not good business. I can understand if we were in Hawaii and we were doing Aloha times, but last time I checked we were in Illinois and you're store says it will close 8pm, I think you should abide by good business practices and close at the time you say you will close. BTW it also states the same hours as your store on Google. (There's also no sign at the store that says they will close early due to holiday schedule) Not coming back here again. I was instantly greeted by the store associates as I walked in. I explained that I wanted to go through the perfect fit zone to find a shoe that properly fit me. Shannon walked me through the process and was extremely helpful. It's amazing how advanced the technology is in order to find your personalized fit. I had no idea I had been wearing the wrong shoe size for so long and when she gave me proper shoes to try on, I could instantly tell the difference! Her recommendations were great and I had such a hard time deciding what shoe to pick since they all gave me such great support. It's also very nice that there is a treadmill in the store so you can actually walk/run in the shoes to see how it truly feels in action. In the end, I didn't pick a shoe since I wanted some time to think about the excellent options Shannon gave me. I really appreciated how she didn't pressure me into buying a shoe and was supportive in my decision since she wanted me to choose a shoe that I truly liked. However, I did purchase socks she introduced me to because of the great cushioning it provides. I used it while running and there truly is a difference. These are now my favorite running socks! Overall, the experience was great because it was so personalized and I will definitely be back again. I highly recommend this store even if you're not looking to train since they will find you a shoe based on your needs. Shoe Dog...yes please!! What is a shoe dog you ask? Basically the best way in the Chicagoland area to get the right fit for running shoes. The shoe dog fetches the correct shoes that you should get for your fit. I have been fit for shoes at several locations and the Runners Soul in Elmhurst is fantastic, according to shoe dog, they put me in my perfect shoe, but at Road Runner Sports, they show you that the shoe is working properly, you aren't just taking someone's word for it, you actually see it working. They start you on a treadmill barefoot and show you what is going on. My case, my ankles collapse inwards, in other words, I overpronate. So with my stability shoes on, I ran at the same pace, they are able to sync screens and you can actually see how the shoe is correcting my overpronation. No other running store that I have encountered have this technology. In most cases they have pretty experienced sales people to tell you what you need, but you could have the one pimply kid who isn't really well trained and you could walk out of the store with wrong shoes that could lead to injury. They have a super huge assortment (more for ladies) of running apparel, accessories, energy boosters, garmin watches etc. that you can think of. The staff is very friendly and this location is great, ample parking and next to the new Whole Foods. Come here to get fitted if you need new running shoes or if you want to start running, you won't regret it! read more

I might be a bit harsh on this store, but my criticism stems from the fact that there are far superior running stores in the area that are not chains and sell better materials at competitive prices. I had a giftcard here and thought I'd go in for a fresh fitting to get a new perspective. I'm training for my third marathon and log lots of time on my feet, and have visited many running establishments through the years. What makes RR different, in their opinion, is the Rocket Dog fit system. It's a series of computers and cameras designed to (in theory) get you the right shoes for your feet. In my experience, the entire fitting process is to push $80 custom insoles. I'd much rather spend that money on shoes that are appropriate for my gait than pieces of plastic that compensate for the wrong shoe. Also, everything here is marked up to offset the discount you receive when you pay for the VIP membership. It's $20 per year to get 10% off anything in the store. Not worth it, but if you stand there long enough, they'll eventually give you the VIP membership for $2. Still not really worth it (how many pairs of overpriced running shoes will you buy per year?), but I took it. Also, with the exception of the shoes and bras, most of the apparel is their private-label run gear. The prices are comparable to Brooks, Nike, Oiselle or other high-end apparel, which is what I'd rather buy for the price. Yes, it's a bit brand-name elitist, but when you buy those brands, you know how they'll wear and wash up. The kicker? Even with my giftcard and VIP discount, I still paid $100 for a pair of running shoes. They better make me feel like I'm running on clouds of marshmallow fluff and unicorn stuffing for that price. The VIP membership does allow you to return the shoes within 90 days, but you also get 60 day without the membership to make your choice. read more

The lack of customer service I received on my visit really disappointed me. I expected so much more from this store. Needless to say, I highly doubt I will return. I will gladly spend my money at stores that want my business. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon since I was running errands in the area. I've received coupons and circulars from them before and was curious to see what they had to offer. Red flag #1: no one greeted me when I entered the store. I was a bit put off, but it wasn't a total deal breaker. I went over to the women's department to browse at their tank tops. I noticed that Road Runner Sports carries their own brand of apparel. I walked around for quite a while and still no one came up to me. No one asked me how I was doing and if I needed any help. No one told me about any ongoing promotions or specials either. Maybe they just didn't see me? There were other customers at that time and they were all being fitted for shoes. Perhaps all their sales associates were too busy assisting those customers? Here's the kicker though... my boyfriend (a non-runner) came into the store to look for me and he was greeted with a cheerful hello by an employee. Funny how that works out. Red flag #2: I walked over to the gear section of the store to look at their hydration belts and still no one came to ask me how I was doing and ask me if I had any questions or need any help. That pretty much sealed the deal for me. I left shortly thereafter severely disappointed in the lack of customer service and I could not agree with Jessica S' review more. If there were a zero for the Kildeer store that would be the rating. Don't waste your time. Walked in and didn't notice the "stop" sign and was abruptly told we needed to sign in. I did, then was approached by a young man who sounded like he disliked his job and said, "is this you"? He stated he was working with two others but what did I need. I told him, and stated two sizes, he proceeded not to listen, told me he only had one size which was one I originally stated, I reminded him. He brought the shoe, tried it on and left. Why? It fit well, but I refused to give my business to this store after that experience. I'll order online from Zappos or go to Dicks or Dick Pond. So sorry that the job must be very hard to ask someone what they need with a positive attitude, then to bring them some shoes to try on and let the customer do the rest. If you can't handle this level of service who knows what your future holds....Road Runner, you need hire and train in a much better way.
