The biggest concerns were the lack of proper…read moresubgrade preparation, the lack of transparency, and the difficulty getting clear, consistent answers throughout the process. I specifically chose and paid extra for high early cement because my goal was to regain access to my garage parking as soon as possible. I expected clear guidance on the product's performance and realistic timelines. Instead, I received conflicting information ranging from not being able to walk on the concrete for 48 hours to not being able to park on it for anywhere from 2-10 days. When I asked for clarification, the responses were vague. Liftech's production manager stated, "There are no specific specs for high early since it is mixed with concrete at the plant," and also said, "There is varying information because no concrete is created equally." I would expect concrete professionals and concrete plants to have more consistent information regarding the product being installed. Another major concern was the subgrade preparation. Liftech subcontracted the concrete work, and when the crew arrived, they did not even have a compactor onsite. I asked the workers if they planned to compact the subgrade, and based on their responses and actions, it did not appear that proper compaction was part of their plan until I contacted their Project Manager and requested that a compactor be brought to the site. The subbase also does not appear to have been watered down as part of the preparation process. The video speaks for itself regarding the preparation that was completed before the concrete was poured. For a project of this size and cost, I expected better communication, transparency, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, my experience left me questioning both the workmanship and the information provided throughout the process.

He took the time to hand select bricks for best color and is even color matching the mortar to match our older home's existing mortar. I met the owner, David, when he was doing some work for a neighbor. The neighbor spoke highly of…read morethe experience and the result, so I called the company. And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

We purchased a home in late December 2021 and have been gradually renovating the various rooms so…read morethat it's a bit more updated and more our aesthetic. One of our biggest projects to tackle was the fireplace. We envisioned not only keeping it wood burning but making the room feel less like a cave and more bright, cozy and welcoming. We contacted several fireplace vendors and found one that helped with the pieces, but for our actual project we were told "you need a mason." So to the search engines we went. After talking and meeting with a few and getting some quotes, we chose to go with Adkins Masonry and are glad we did. From the beginning, Tommy was fantastic to work with. It's clear through conversation that he's passionate about what he does, and equally clear that he's very talented after looking though his portfolio. In the grand scheme of things, our project was pretty minor compared to a lot of jobs he does, but he treated us as if ours was the most important one whenever we met or discussed it. It was about a year in the making. We had an initial meeting to suss out our vision and come up with a plan. Then my partner and I took our sweet time to make sure we found the right natural stone for the look we were going for. We then started the demo, which was done incrementally as our project evolved over time. It took a while for the stone and hearth to come in, but once it arrived, Tommy was able to really get going. Since we were keeping it wood burning, and since Tommy is a mason, we ended up using brick rather than wood to frame it out which helped insulate it and make it safer. He also placed insulation over the vent, which did not exist on the original, to help protect the electrical and cable wires that ran behind it. We debated putting the TV over the mantel vs off to the side, and we ended up running power for both options to future proof it. Once the brick was laid and dried, he and his crew installed the concrete mantel and the giant hearth (which I cannot even begin to tell you how heavy it was). Next, he began to overlay the stone, first mortared into place, and then grouted to finish with the right color. It was really crazy to watch how each step completely transformed the project again and again. We are so happy with the way it turned out. The room still has a ways to go (floors, trim and oh, furniture) but I cannot recommend Tommy and Adkins Masonry highly enough. He was a complete pleasure to work with.

Nick gave us an incredible design and worked with us to revise and phase it out for budget purposes. We completed phase 1 of the work with him this spring (deck demo and paver patio install) and it was absolutely seamless. From tweaking design to picking materials, Nick was always accessible and a great communicator. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and we are SO thrilled with our new outdoor space. We hired Nick and Viewpoint Design Group LLC to landscape our backyard in April 2022. Our project…read moreincluded design services, complete removal of existing backyard landscaping and patio, save for one tree, pouring of a new concrete patio and hot tub pad, installation of a gas fire pit and gas line for our grill, new sod, 5 large trees, around 20 plants, and a new irrigation system to include new valves and lines. Many aspects of the project fell short, and if you don't want to read any further, my recommendation is to look elsewhere for your landscaping needs. Pros -Very solid design work, our backyard originally looked great and the design is much more functional and private. Cons -Patio: the subcontractor ran short on concrete and I witnessed them pulling what was left from the pump lines and a catch tray to complete the project. The result is a portion of our patio that has incorrect drainage/pooling, spalling and cracking. -Irrigation: and entirely new system, including valves, was supposed to be installed. None of the valves were replaced and I am now having significant problems that will require a complete replacement of the 20 year old valves. -Plants: Nick assured me that the 7 boxwoods he had planned would hold up to my two male dogs. They were dead within 3 months, replaced under his warranty, and were all dead again the following spring. In researching, it turns out that boxwoods are not tolerant of dog urine whatsoever and something else should have been used. -Fire pit: beautiful centerpiece in our backyard. Unfortunately, it was slammed together at the last minute and the internal structure couldn't support the lava rock. I rebuilt it myself less than 6 months after the project was completed. Lawn: extremely lumpy and uneven, is going to require a bunch of sand and labor to get it where it needs to be. I spoke with Nick many times after our project was completed to address some of these issues (not all were immediately present or known about) and was brushed off and made to feel like I was putting him out...after cutting him a check for $60k. Not only is the value not there, I am now paying a second time for things that weren't done correctly the first time and in some case were borderline fraudulent like the sprinkler valves.
