We knew my starter was going bad, it was just a matter of time...well yesterday late morning was that time. As I was about to be on my way to a doctor's appointment, my car took several tries (and clicking) before finally starting. I called Preston on my way, and explained. He closes at noon on Fridays and it was nearing 11:00. He said he would wait for me to check it out. I had my grown son stay in my car, with it running, and went into my appointment. After, I called Preston and told him I was on my way. I arrived just before noon...we thankfully were able to duplicate the car not starting. We decided I would leave my car there over the weekend and he should have the new starter installed by Monday. I was fine without having a car for the weekend. My Dad picked me up from Preston's and I went home back to work....Preston texted me a few hours later saying he went to pick up my starter from Honda, installed it and was ready for me to pick it up. This kind, thoughtful man, said he didn't want me to not have a car over the weekend. He decided to take care if it early. I said I would not be able to come get it until close to 5 and he said it was fine. I got another ride back to him just before 5, and told this amazing man, how thankful I was and appreciated him. Why bother having appointments at all if you aren't going to even remotely abide by them? I will be taking all my cars elsewhere from now on. The first story doesn't make me look great, but I'll tell it like it happened. Story one: The first time I took my car there, my car was having chronic issues with the battery dying (in spite of AAA giving me a perfect battery check multiple times). A pseudo-mechanic friend messed around with it on the weekend, but concluded that my vehicle needed professional help. I dropped off my car on a busy weekday morning without an appointment. They were absolutely packed, but were willing to take my vehicle and try to diagnose the issue. They ran diagnostics and tested it in different ways over the course of a couple days, but weren't able to find any issues. My leading hypothesis is that my friend must have knocked something loose back into place. In any event, when I picked up the car, all they charged me for was the oil change. They could have EASILY charged me a ton for all the trouble my non-broken car gave them, but took the honest and transparent route. My car worked just find after I got it. Story two: During my first trip to Beroth, they identified that I had brake issues. My brakes should have still been under warranty under NTB and I told them I was going to try to see if the warranty would pay for it. I took my vehicle to NTB and they tried to charge me an exorbitant sum to replace damage due to a "failed part" (that I they installed.. that was under warranty...). In any event, I took my car into Beroth and they took care of my problem. They were able to charge me half of what NTB wanted to charge me, and did slightly less work (since some of what NTB recommended wasn't necessary). My brakes have been much better since the work they did. Overall, I'd recommend Beroth based on the two times they serviced my car. They had every opportunity to price gouge me, and they didn't. They were personable and took good care of my vehicle.

I was told by Tesla that my 2020 Tesla Model Y Performance needed a battery pack replacement. Before committing to Tesla, I called this shop and spoke with someone I believe was named Max, who assured me they could do the job and had third-party battery options that would be cheaper than Tesla. Based on that information, I paid $400 out of pocket to tow my car from Raleigh to their shop. That's where the red flags started. * It took over two days just to get a diagnosis, and I had to repeatedly call for updates. * I was charged $243.13 for the diagnostic, despite the delays and lack of communication. * My advisor, Marissa, told me she was "looking for a battery," which alone took another full day. * When I finally received an estimate, I was shocked: $28,000 total, with $23,000 claimed just for the battery. For comparison, Tesla charges around $13,000 for the same battery replacement -- and I personally found a compatible battery online for $14,500, which still makes their quoted $23,000 battery price extremely inflated. When I asked for a detailed, itemized estimate (battery source, labor hours, cost breakdown), I never received one. They could never explain where the battery was coming from, how many labor hours were involved, or why the price was so high. I asked twice to speak with a manager. Messages were taken both times. No manager ever called or texted me back. I purchased my vehicle from Flow Volkswagen and later brought it back to Flow for a paid diagnostic visit due to coolant loss, drivability issues, and a check engine light. I paid for that diagnostic, and was told nothing significant was found. Shortly afterward, my independent mechanic discovered multiple serious, pre-existing issues that were either missed during Flow's diagnostic or tied directly to Flow's pre-sale service work. These included: An improperly installed water pump, missing required hardware Multiple coolant leaks and compromised cooling system integrity Corrosion and failing components related to the cooling and PCV systems A rear main seal leak requiring transmission removal Severe carbon buildup and injector issues causing drivability problems These were not minor wear-and-tear issues. The improperly installed cooling system created a real risk of sudden coolant loss and catastrophic engine damage. My independent mechanic immediately identified problems that Flow failed to catch despite charging for a diagnostic. Most concerning, Flow later acknowledged in writing that a critical component related to the water pump had not been installed correctly and offered to supply the missing part--confirming that the vehicle had been sold to me in an unsafe condition. Because of the risk involved and the lack of timely resolution, I was forced to authorize immediate repairs through my primary mechanic to prevent further damage. Those repairs totaled several thousand dollars. While Flow eventually refunded the diagnostic fee, that does not begin to address the broader issue: the vehicle was sold with improperly installed components, significant defects were missed during a paid diagnostic, and I was left to absorb the cost and stress of correcting those failures. I attempted to resolve this through: Direct communication with dealership management Volkswagen of America Better Business Bureau mediation A formal complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General At no point was this handled proactively or transparently by the dealership.
