This shop offers excellent selection, plentiful nostalgia, and friendly service. Are you not satisfied? Every time I come in the shop, I am welcomed with a warm greeting from the person behind the counter. I always enjoy talking with this employee about vinyl and my passion for music in general. The shop has really good variety and genres despite it's relatively small size. They have a great section of five dollar records and tons of records that are either priced at one dollar or two dollars. You get to spin a wheel if you spend more than $10 in one transaction. I often get free records from this very fun aspect of their sale model. The suspense with spinning is always amazing! Parking is open on the adjacent street and there is no payment required. There is a great coffee shop next-door and it's a really nice neighborhood to walk in before or after your visit to the shop. Plan for extra time if you can. A really awesome shop that offers vinyl with a few extras of cassette tapes and VHS videos. There are even a few DVDs and CDs if that's your thing. Every so often, there's a review I don't want to post, because I would rather keep my insider knowledge a bit, um, secret. Dig vinyl is one of those places. So just between you and me, it's a great place to go. Here's the deal, I am happy to let you in on this confidential knowledge, with one condition. Please don't buy any of the albums that I was intending to purchase. Other than that, well, they could use your support also. Sweet and tiny, with an exclusive focus on used records. Items are not graded as far as I can tell, and prices seem to be in line with a few good deals here and there. If you are in the area, worthwhile to visit. They have been around a couple of years. Nice jazz and rock sections with other genres represented, including Blues, World and even some funk and soul. Dig has slowly become one of my favorite places to shop for albums. A cool feature? There's a small wheel of fortune by the front door. When you are ready to check out, you get to spin it. You can get anything from a discount on your entire purchase, to a free one dollar record or many other types of rewards. It adds a nice touch of fun to shopping there. I keep trying to convince them that one of the prizes should be getting to take me out for a whiskey, bit so far, no go. Some good advice: during the pandemic, this small shop is only letting in a couple of customers at a time. Now with the cold and rainy season upon us, dress warmly in case you have to stand outside for 10 minutes. It is worth the wait. I'm an avid record collector. I try to keep up on all the records stores around Portland. Somehow, for nearly 2 years, this store has slipped under my (and Yelp's) radar. A cool little shop that can feel busy with just a few people. Great selection of used records. Highly curated. Possibly a spot to take your old records to. I like this record shop but there is one reason I may never return: price stickers pasted directly on record jackets. I recently purchased an expensive LP off the wall at Dig Vinyl. I was excited about the purchase - a long time want. When purchasing records I always remove price stickers, as do many collectors. But upon delicately removing Dig Vinyl's price sticker, the record jacket was permanently scarred as the ink on jacket was ripped completely off by the sticker. This ruins the record for me. All I can see is the scar when I look at it. Is this my fault? I mean, I AM the one who removed the sticker after all. One could certainly make a case for this. However, the shop is also accountable for placing this sticker directly on the jacket in the first place. This is easily avoidable by placing the sticker directly on the polybag or shrinkwrap that all records in the shop contain. Many record stores are sensitive to this, but not Dig Vinyl. It's important to note that Dig Vinyl uses oversized price stickers which include a barcode and basic titling of the LP. And since the stickers have identifying info for each LP, staff can rest assured that each sticker price corresponds with the priced record it was intended for (in other words, if a customer switches a record's price sticker to lower cost then staff could pick up on this quickly....the sticker tells you what record it is priced for). I am posting this in hopes that Dig Vinyl will change this practice. I like this shop and feel it is a positive addition to the community. But if I can't purchase a record without having it damaged by staff when pricing it, then the records inside this store have no value for me. read more
