Yes it is small right now and some prices seem a bit high but the people who work there are fun to talk with and do know the inventory and will be happy to go dig into any boxes of unsorted albums if you are looking for certain titles. I don't think you will find any rock bottom bargains at this place but you might find some cool treasures. Side note, i would park on street if you can. Had always wanted to check this place out, and was finally in the area and able to give it a look. If I'm being honest, it was a disappointment, but I can only speak for my own experience. Aesthetically, I found it to be pretty disorganized and messy. Boxes just plopped around on the floor, a pretty rough looking back area, and overall not particularly clean and welcoming. The front doors look like they're barely hanging on by a thread, and the pricing was consistently on the high side, though I have seen worse. Impressive selection for the eclectic / obscure collector, and the employee working there today (it wasn't Matt) was a very friendly fella. Was able to find a few records to pick up, but overall, the place didn't have a particularly good or inviting vibe for me, so I don't foresee myself ever feeling the urge to come back, unfortunately. A HUGE turnoff for me, was how they put most of their records in sealed outer sleeves, so accessing the vinyl to check the condition was, for me, an enormous pain in the a$$. My biggest recommendation to Matt would be to NOT do that. Make the records quick and easy to get to for a closer look, brother! read more

I do like the great selection of vinyl this store carries, the owner was very friendly and greeted me. When I told him I was looking for soul and Latin releases, he turned me on to a couple of newer 45 that I hadn't heard. My only complaint is that some of his 45s although many are demos, are still a bit pricey for what they were. I can forgive that a little, though, because I did find some rare ones in the mix. Also, they have live performances from local bands there from time to time. I think there I came in the middle of a DJ set when I was last there. Overall, I think it's a nice store, just mind their pricing and budget accordingly, and it's all good. read more

This place is awesome, it has a REALLY wide selection of music and a lot of my favorite artists :D i just went there today to get a KMD record and the customer service was absolutely amazing. The guy at the front desk was very nice and complained my music taste. Im definitely gonna come back here someday, probably this weekend. read more

First visit was during their one-year anniversary wing ding, so the place was packed. Matt, the owner, greeted us at the door. Nice vibe, cool customers, DJ, and the selection seemed just fine to me. i echo john's review below. The prices are way too high. Too many record stores do this and their inventory will eventually just sit there unless some poor loaded schmuck comes along and pays the top dollar prices. They also need better hours, opening at 3 kills a lot of business and is annoying for people with different schedules who can shop earlier. Lastly, the aesthetic of this place is way too modern and cold it feels more like a beauty salon or a high end tattoo parlor or something. Not a very inviting environment. Also the owner is kind of annoying, something about his personality is very irritating. read more

Great new record store in Portland. I went on opening day and it's a super clean and super organized space. The owner is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about vinyl, in addition to being very friendly and approachable. The live performance space is also very nice. One note and one small critique. The note is that this is a highly curated store in its early days. So if you're looking to dig for hours like you might at Music Millennium or Everyday Music - that's not that (at least not yet.) The upside of this, however, is that you're not going to have to waste much time shifting through dirty broken records and super common stuff. The small critique is that I do wish the Hip Hop section was bigger (though I expect this to change overtime.) Check it out! read more

A relatively newer record store in Portland. As an avid collector I had to check it out. Pros: * You can actually walk this the building. As much as I absolutely love music millennium's selection it's not easy to get around and very claustrophobic. This record store is spacious. * The way they organize their records makes sense. * The guy there, I think was the owner, Matt? He was welcoming and positive! Record stores tend to be often operated, unfortunately by a lot of gatekeeping and just downright rude people. This was not the case here! * Had some straight up banger albums * Prices seemed super fair and on point Cons: * Not a huge selection, but I assume that will change as time goes on. *I wish they were located closer to my place... purely selfish. I'm willing to bet the negative reviews are from people who've never stepped foot in the store. The owner, Matt, is an incredibly nice person who is always willing to discuss the price of one of the albums he's selling, which are extremely fair already. The store itself is brand new. You can tell a lot of love has been put into it, and this is just the beginning. I can't wait to see how it grows as time goes on. If you want an awesome used vinyl store run by an owner who truly loves music and vinyl, TMR is the place to go. It will definitely be a regular visit every time I visit Portland! read more

The Too Many Records store is awesome! They had so many different genres of vinyl & I love how many recent artists this store has. I go thrifting for vinyl a lot, and I can't find picks like these anywhere. I will def return to see what new stuff comes in! read more

One of the best, if not the best, record shop in Portland. Matt and Goose are super easy to talk to and know vinyl. Their recommendation boxes are amazing places to find albums you didn't know your collection was missing. The store itself is very clean, easy to navigate and inviting. There's enough around the store to keep you coming back time after time, but not so much that it's sensory overload or overwhelming. Stock appears to get updated regularly so make sure to make this record store one of your regular stops. This store carries bands from ACDC to Walk the moon to soundtracks you've only seen online before. I cannot recommend this store and its fantastic owners and employees enough. read more

Record shops are a reflection of their owner. Sometimes that's a bad thing (ie disheveled shops, lack of curation, only putting out basic titles, etc). In the case of Too Many Records, one visit to the shop and you can tell that this shop is owned and run by a truly passionate, truly caring, truly invested owner. Incredibly diverse selection, amazing titles that are very hard to come by, fair pricing, and so well curated. This shop is only a few weeks old and has so much more room to grow and, needless to say, I'm excited to see what they grow in to over the next 5-10 years. Highly recommend!!! read more

Sometimes you find places with great selection, but terrible prices, sometimes you find places that have knowledgeable staff but lackluster selection and are dirty. This is a great addition to NoPo. The inventory is a tad small but a store this size early in its infancy I'm not expecting an overflow of stock. Also, a lot of it looks handpicked which is a blessing and I didn't feel like I was sifting thru the usual dollar bin albums you see everywhere that nobody wants. Prices are competitive based on the current market and I really dug the owners pick and grail section. Speaking of the owner, he is friendly and very knowledgeable about music and seems to give a sh!t about the customer experience ...beats some of the stores I used to go to as a kid where store employees would mock your purchase choice or make you just feel unwelcome. Add the fact that there was live music and a punch card/loyalty program! I'll definitely come back. read more

MUST VISIT spot for audiophiles in the Portland area!!! Cannot recommend it enough. I unfortunately don't live up there, but I made a point of swinging by on a road trip and WOW... If you collect vinyl, you've gotta come talk shop with Matt, and you can pick up some gems for your collection while you're at it. Everything I saw there was interesting, plenty I've never even heard of before, but everything I was familiar with was super reasonably priced. Got a copy of the Suburbs by Arcade Fire ORIGINAL PRESSING for $20 less than I've seen it online. And we all know (or should know) how much that album slaps. Just rockin'. Real talk, Matt and his YouTube channel are a huge reason I got into vinyl in the first place, and to see this physical manifestation of his passion for vinyl and music in general is just... *chef's kiss*. This is a great generalist store - lots of good stuff, not much garbage. Solid rock and metal but also good jazz picks. Amidst the usual suspects I always find something rarer here, which is nice these days. Prices are fair, not a ton of bargains. The owner is super nice. read more

I really appreciate that this store exists in the North Portland community and in Portland overall. I've been to many, if not most, of the record stores in Portland and this one offers a unique atmosphere with a disco ball, couch to sit on and a great selection of records. The prices are fair and the staff are super nice and approachable I found a lot of great records in the $5 bins and essentials from the regular bins and some rarer records as well. Every time I go there are new things I didn't see before and I always find something I need for my collection. read more

These reviews complaining about high prices are ridiculous- Matt's prices were at or below Discogs prices. This shop is still in its infancy but I flew across the country just to be there for the grand opening and support Matt. He eats and breathes music on vinyl. I've discovered countless artists thanks to his YouTube channel. If digging through moldy, scratched up records for $1 is more your style, stick to the thrift stores. The YouTube channel has become a store. Great place that focuses on modern music including Pop, Hip-Hop, VGM, Ambient, Pop Punk, and Emo. Too Many Records carries all the old record door staples as well. Your classic rock and jazz but if you're looking for something different than the typical record store that's filled with overpriced copies of Rumors and Thriller then make a visit here. The walls are filled with hard to find rarities and the bins are stuffed with tons of records that other record stores would be lucky to find. It's got a spacious floor with plenty of room for browsing and according to owner Matt Kessler it will be a place to see local bands play in the adjacent enclaves next to the main floor. read more

This is where I go to find my grails, the records I haven't been able to find anywhere else, as well as records I didn't know I needed to have. It's not the biggest or most jam-packed with every record ever, and that's a good thing - Matt does a fantastic job of curating albums of quality, both physically and musically. Albums are priced appropriately, can be easily browsed, and have been selected for the shelf by someone who knows what he's got and what we want. Highly recommended, and absolutely worth taking the time to dig, listen to what's spinning, and have a good conversation with an owner who clearly loves music as much as the rest of us (or more, considering how he leveraged a youtube channel into a brick and mortar shop). I am happy to say this will now be my go to spot in Portland. Matt who runs the shop is extremely knowledgeable and has carefully curated a selection of essentials and and hard to find records you wouldn't see at any other shop, there's good blend of every genre and something for everyone whether a veteran collector or a newcomer. Along with the records there are occasional live shows that will be playing in the shop, I'm not sure how frequent this will be but I think he plans to do it regularly. If you're in Portland and love music this is a must stop! read more

Quickly became my favorite record store in town! Matt, the owner, is always there and he is an extremely approachable nice guy. His collection, and prices, are great. Much cheaper than online. I've been there twice now, and each time I've left with no less than 5 records to add to my collection. He restocks all the time so there is always something new and interesting.
