What a super cute concept! As the name suggests, My Vinyl Underground is, well, underground. Located inside a small comic/picture book store, descend a small flight of wooden stairs and you find yourself transported into a tiny room with records aplenty. There is quite the wide selection of records, and they also buy records. We brought some of ours to sell, and after inspecting the condition, we were given decently good money back on them. If I have more time in the future, I would definitely go take a deeper look at their offerings. This was a fun little adventure that's worth the trip! read more

I wouldn't be surprised if I've been to over 100 music shops in my life. There's nothing like this one in the US. I spent hours just looking and listening to the Spanish import vinyl. Chris, the owner, was super friendly and happy to put on different bands, talk about their history and family tree, and generally nerd out with me. He was dropping references that I didn't know, but that made him all the more excited to put on other bands that influenced those bands, and so on. The shop is mostly vinyl but I even bought a few new CDs, which I haven't done in years. I didn't even really get to the used vinyl this trip. Highly recommended for indie, indie pop, twee, dream pop, shoe gaze type stuff. I wish I lived closer so I could hang out in here regularly, but I had to settle on getting a giant haul and visiting every time I'm in the area and promising myself I would visit the next time I was in Portland. read more

This is such a cool little spot! I've never even noticed it before and I'm super glad that I went! I bought an order on Discogs and the owner just let me know, like, "hey, you're in Portland, I'm in Portland, why didn't you stop by?" He put the shipping cost that I was supposed to pay towards other items in the shop, and when my pick cost a couple bucks more than that, he just comped the difference. Super personable, really friendly, devoted to customer satisfaction. Strong recommend for all diggers. read more

We discovered My Vinyl Underground recently, which is the physical store of Jigsaw Records. It is located inside and downstairs of Books with Pictures on SE Division. Worth checking out, esp if you are into pop/indie pop/local pop or rock bands. Very well curated and the owner is super nice. They also have some live music in the space. We haven't had time to check live shows yet but hopefully we will one of these days. read more

I visited this shop on a recent stay in Portland, having previously purchased music from the associated label Jigsaw Records via online methods. It is easy to park near the store on SE Division Street. The specialty for My Vinyl Underground is indie pop, including all its variants (lo-fi, dream pop/shoegaze etc.) as well as post punk and even some hardcore music, all of this sourced from around the world as well as across the U.S.. This is one of the very few bricks and mortar places in the U.S. where you can find this music released on tiny labels (including Jigsaw of course). I am talking about music you normally have to buy over the web. And prices are reasonable! In my opinion My Vinyl Underground is a full-on destination for any indie music lover, a reason by itself to visit Portland. When you walk out with your haul you can bet you've improved your music collection. I literally visited the store two days in a row. And the best thing of all: you can pick the very knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner's brain for suggestions on the basis of music you are already familiar with. read more
