I used to go to Dillards Salon and, as most of us do, drifted to other salons over the years . I have once again discovered The Aveda Salon at Dillards is my new (Salon) home. Allison takes a sincere interest in 'listening' to (me) as to what I want in color, cut and style. I have long brunette hair and is naturally wavy. She can make it look so beautiful and smooth!!! Very talented and a great conversationalist !!! I have recommended Allison to my friend who is a blonde and is very picky about the brilliance her hair must command........Allison delivers!!!! A very nice salon on the second floor of Dillard's (South side store). I always thought it was strange to see people getting there hair done when walking in the mall. That said once you stop in you will enjoy the quality of the work and the atmosphere. My wife had a color and cut and they were great. We walked in with hour an appointment and they could take her so I went walking around more. When all was done she (and I) loved the look. I feel she will be back. read more

I have been going to this salon on and off for over 15 years. Depending on where I was living at that time. So what makes me rate them so low now? I went to get my hair colored the same as I did the previous 3-4 times. I have brownish blonde hair and wanted it blonde. I was given Mercedes (I have had her before). They couldn't find my chart with the correct formula so they made a new one. And mind you my hair stylist said she was "top tiered" and if I wanted a more economical haircut I would have to request a lower tiered stylist. So she made a new formula. That formula made my hair orange. I thought it would settle. It did not. The sun made it worse. I called and they said I missed the 5 day grace period. Then they called back stating they will fix it for me. I just needed some toner to get the orange brass out of my hair. They scheduled me an appt on a Tuesday. They called and cancelled and said Thursday. Fine. Then they called on Thursday stating they had an earlier time slot. I couldn't go earlier as I work until 5pm on the weekdays. So then they said they were going to cancel bc she wasn't "feeling" good again. I said fine I will come in early, so they asked me to come in at 5pm instead of 6pm! When I got there she did her thing and was talking about how she has to go home and color her own hair, how she doesn't want to cook dinner, and all this other nonsense. She even have the receptionist cut her hair while what I thought was toner, sit in my hair. She then rinsed out my hair and it was a lighter shade of ORANGE now. NOT blonde. She said she just put more color in my hair! Why? I didn't want a lighter orange hair color I wanted blonde. She then tried to blame ME saying that she did it right and I asked for the wrong thing. She told me to just call her manager the next day. I called the next day and the manager then tried to blame me and said they only do one free fix. She didn't fix it she made it WORSE! Then they continued to blame me and said I asked for no bleach and just color. So toner wouldn't work which is why she used more color. Which is a lie. Then someone else called and stated my hair was bleached that toner was something I could use. I was unable to go the one day they said they had an opening. Now they are not returning my phone calls. They are very rude and didn't care about me as a client. Sadly, I have to find a new place so they can fix the SCREW up this salon and stylist did. read more

This was initially set to be a 1 star rating after my first visit. I booked for a partial foil and root touch up for a 4:30 appt. I arrived early and was shown my seat at 4:30. Literally as I was putting the gown on, I felt rushed and uncomfortable. I was informed they were tight on time due to the store needing to close before the mall does. I understood but was thinking, "Why are you telling me this shouldn't this be your worry, not mine?" But ok. We're all human and get stressed. This was my first time with this salon and stylist. I wanted 5-10 minutes for a consult. I had questions about a bayalage, which was something I had been thinking of doing the next time I visited and wanted to know if anything I was doing this day with the partial foil would make it more/less difficult to get the desired result of the bayalage when I came back for that. If it would process my hair too much, I may have opted to do a single process and skip the partial foil.... She obviously didn't think these questions were important, tapping her watch and telling 'us' we needed to hurry. She was halfway listening to me, halfway checking the time. This was not helpful and dismissive. So ok, let's get on with it! I knew I never wanted to go here again. At that point, the stylist informed me that she couldn't give me the partial foil. This was my first time with this salon and stylist. I wondered why they would book me for this service if proper time wasn't allotted? I voiced this complaint. When the receptionist came over to confirm with the stylist, the receptionist confirmed what I booked for. The manager arrived and was pleasant and apologized and gave me a shampoo gift. It was appreciated and the right thing to do. I explained everything. After discussion, she booked me for the bayalage the next afternoon and I ended up getting the single process. The next day, I arrived and Lauren was my stylist. I'm glad they didn't give me the same one! Lauren was excellent and knowledgeable. She walked me through my questions and explained exactly what she was doing and the results were amazing! I was sooo pleased with her professionalism, knowledge and speed at which she worked. A real pro. I will re-book with Lauren in a heart beat! She is the reason I am giving this a five star review. read more

Oh my goodness.... I feel SOOOO safe when I go to the Aveda salon at Dillard's in Daytona!!! Social distancing, temperature checks, only 3 clients in the facility at a time. Everything is CLEAN! SANITIZED. Everyone wearing masks, and the stylists also wear plastic face shields on top of their masks. I truly feel safer here than anywhere in public. Their protocols are more stringent than anywhere I've been since March. I've been a client for over 2 years, and the staff are very talented, and customer service is exceptional!! The salon is a hidden gem. But the moment I walked in I was greeted by a professional staff. This was my first time and upon calling I researched a hair technique I wanted: baylage coloring. I've had my hair highlighted and colored in the past but never had this technique. I was a by nervous because as seen in the photo I posted, my hair is dark. I didn't want the color to be "orange" as sometimes my dark hair when lightening up turns. I explained everything to the stylist, Alexis, and she calmed my nerves and explained the whole technique and didn't continue until I was comfortable with the price & procedure. I would ONLY recommend going to Alexis because she has a vision for current hairstyles and engages options for the client. After visiting with her a bit, she shared about pursuing current hair techniques and taking additional classes after hours to offer various hairstyles/cuts for her clientele. For instances, she took a before photo and I was able to see my current haircut from different angles, and then explained the technique she wanted to apply before doing it. I am a very thorough person and enjoyed getting an explanation. Overall, from the receptionist staff to the hairstylists in the background, I would recommend this salon to my friends and family. Honestly I've been there twice now and left disappointed. I went once earlier this year to cut my hair and it took the stylist nearly 2-3 hours to cut it how I originally asked it to be done and she got increasingly angrier with me because she couldn't get it right. In the end it got done and I tipped her $20 cause I felt bad for her getting upset over it. I just left there again today to get my hair dyed- my hair is naturally dirty blonde and I wanted it dyed green. When I went in the first time to set up the appointment I was quoted $40 and told that my hair was light enough to get it the color I wanted. I came in today to have it done and I was told it would be $60 and that my hair might be too dark without bleaching (which would be an additional $75). I opted out because she told me it should still show up because I have highlights. It turned out a muddy brown color with patches of green here and there :/ and I was charged $85 for it. I'm extremely upset but I'm too much of a pacifist to say it to their face or ask for a price reduction. Tl;dr two bad experiences and the most recent charged me $45 more than I expected for a bad dye job. I'll probably go home and box dye it black in a few days. read more

I visited Daytona Beach this past May 2019 for a wedding. Not really knowing anyone in the area who would be able to do my hair, I went by reviews & also by a recommendation from someone in MAC Makeup, which is also located in this mall. I'm Latina, have curly, thick hair & so I needed someone with lots of experience with blow drying & styling my type of hair. (The blow drying technique is different than just making sure the hair dries; much more is involved). The person in MAC highly recommended Mercedes. I have to say, Mercedes really delivered. She has magic hands. She blow dried my hair and exceeded my expectations. She touched it up with the flat iron, (not that it really needed it because she left my hair pin straight just by blow drying it & looking fabulous). She assured me that my hair would stay looking the same even after all the humidity and after all the dancing. Sure enough, I danced the night away & even after the hot and humid day & evening, I still looked the same as when I first walked in! To my surprise, No frizziness! This is why I say she has magic hands. I highly recommend Mercedes. This is just an extra, my allergies were acting up and I had a very annoying cough, they hooked it up with tea and really took care of me. Aveda is suppose to be a good salon with a"professional team'. Came to the salon at my schedule appointment. And the receptionist claimed she called me to let me know my stylist was coming in later. I had no missed call or voicemail, I checked my number in her book it was the right number. So she lied just like she made a mistake on the hairstyle schedule. . The Manager tried to please me by taking me even though he had no idea how to do curly hair/mix/ethnic hair. Why would you take a client if you cant do the job? 2. Mistake. He was obnoxious and rude and said dont worry it will be straight. The roots were terribly blown out. He took over an hour to blow dry the hair and it still wasn't done and said if he should stop in the middle because i didn't seem please . Horrible obnoxious behavior. If you have curly hair or mix/ ethnic hair do not go here. I real hair dresser can do all types of hair. This is a shame for these people to work here at this brand Aveda. read more
