After walking around at the Longwood Gardens, we were hungry for some lunch! One of my favorite foods is soup dumplings, so I'm glad that we found this place just 30 minutes drive from the gardens. The food there is amazing! We had the soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, beef chow fun, beef brisket noodle soup, and some piggy shaped sweet lotus seed steamed buns. I've dined here a few times and every time I try something else from the menu. I always get those signature dumplings with the broth inside. They are amazingly good. So far everything I tried was excellent. Service was fast considering how busy they were. I watched on the big screen how some foods are prepared. Really giant screen showing an Asian food network. We asked and learned only what we already knew: it has soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and sugar. If anyone can find out any specifics, or proportions, please let us know! It was full when our party of 9 arrived but the hosts were apologetic and seated us within a reasonable delay. And, being dim sum, food started coming out almost immediately after ordering. Delicious. And, recognizing that I haven't ordered XLB in many places, I was inordinately pleased that all the dumplings transferred into spoons without losing their soup. The soup dumplings are my favorite and I often come by just for those to satisfy a craving. Piggy buns are cute and yummy. I love this restaurant. It is my favorite in Media for several reasons. The service is good, and they always go the extra mile to make sure you are well taken care of. The owner/manager always says hello and makes sure we are happy with everything. The food is so good!!! The soup dumplings are my favorite and my husband loves the scallion pancakes. Love their duck (bone on), noodle soup, and may dim sum (shiu mie, ha gow, shrimp with rice noodle, fried taro root, dumplings....and more). Service is friendly and prices are appropriate. Unfortunately I did not like the pork soup dumplings - I felt that all the fat from the pork just melted out into the broth and made for a really gelatinous mouth feel. I think that if I had gotten a soup dumpling that didn't have such a fatty filling (like with veggies or crab inside) that the broth would have remained pure and I could have enjoyed it more. That being said - the NON soup dumplings I had were A+! I really enjoyed the pork and chive one, which we ordered pan-seared. Their Chinese food was just "meh." I want to give 0 star if I can. I normally do not do reviews. The waiter Steve is the rudest waiter I ever met in my entire life. New York Chinese restaurant staffs have better attitude than him. We told him we have one more person looking for the parking now, the four person table is not gonna fit. Steve said "there, there, there, go, go, go" We are customer we spend money here for food, not begging food for free. My husband, one of my daughter, and I had a very late lunch at Tom's DimSum Mania in Media. Apparently, the co-owners of Tom's DimSum had a big fallout and Tom (the one owner) decided to leave and open this Tom's DimSum Mania just one door down! I like the Mania better than the original Tom's, the flavour is cleaner and fresher. I think I prefer Mania over DimSum Garden too! I really think the quality of DimSum Garden has dropped over the years. Unlike the other dim sum places the interior is pretty polished and they obviously paid a lot of attention to details. The service was prompt, and efficient. Since we went for a late lunch it was not crowded, so I cannot speak for their efficiency during their busy hours. We ordered scallion pancake and it was good. My husband said it was a bit doughy and heavy. A little bit more scallion would have been nice, but nothing to complain about. Turnip cake had a very good flavour, however, it was sliced a bit too thick and mushy. I personally prefer a bit thinner sliced turnip cake and crispier exterior, but once again no big deal because it still tastes good! The Pork Soup Dumplings were good, but the skin was too thick for my liking (I have been spoiled eating xiao long bao in Asia so I get kind of picky). We asked for thinly sliced gingers so we can eat with these dumplings and they are such wonderful compliments with each other. Their Spicy Dumplings were delicious! I would definitely order them again! My all the favourite was the sautéed bokchoy! It was so yummy with chunks of garlic in them. My husband and I went to Mania today. The food, once we got it, was really good. The service was really unorganized though... The servers don't seem to know which table to deliver the orders to, and everything came out one plate at a time with gaps of about 15 minutes or so in between. I have loved going to DSM for several years. Last night was a mess. The place was packed, they had people standing all around the restaurant. The take out order drivers rushing in and out. This was not a place to have a sit down dinner. And I guess to handle the extra crowd, the food quality was cut way back. Order two of the Tom's special dumplings and wound up with six dough balls with hardly any center filling. The rest of the meal was similiar, severely worse then a lunch we had only 3 weeks ago. This place needs to decide if they are going to go for a short term, high volume, low quality food outlet. Or will they set themselves up as a quality sit down restaurant, control the people in the place and eliminate the food delivery mess. read more

I've been to this place countless times. The quality always stay consistent for dim sum. I'm not too big on their entrees but the dim sum is always a must. I've tried mostly everything on their dim sum menu and I can honestly say you can't go wrong with any of the options. It's always fresh and hot out of the steamer. It's the best dim sum I've ever had and I've had plenty. None of the places in Philly can compete. My favorites are both the Hong Kong & Shanghai Shao Mai. The only thing I would prefer is for the chili oil to be spicier. It gives a nice crunch to the dishes but it's not spicy enough for me. Other than that, the food and service is quick.
