Shrimp Fried Rice, General Tso's Shrimp and Spring Rolls (2)
    Donna W.

Due to me having a bad cold, I decided to Chinese food via DoorDash. I read the reviews here on my favorite review site and decided to try this restaurant. I ordered the Spring Rolls (2), General Tso's Shrimp and Shrimp Fried Rice. This was my first time trying General Tso's Shrimp and it was very well prepared. The perfect amount of heat and sweet. The Shrimp Fried Rice was freshly prepared and I appreciated the size of the shrimp as well. I wasn't a fan of the Spring Rolls and unfortunately the General Tso's Shrimp were soggy, due to the packaging and travel. One reason I prefer not to use food delivery services. However, I will definitely try them again when I'm well and can visit in person.

    Roaches

Do not buy food from here unless you like eating bugs. I can't believe I found a worm in my broccoli. That means they don't clean any of the food. Everything was terrible quality. We even found a roach in the dumpling

$7.95 for soup dumplings is a STEAL. Stopped in for a solo lunch and it was great. Caters to the demographic of "Chinese takeout" food but some great Shanghainese classics like rice cakes, soup dumplings, and soup noodles. You never find soup dumplings for that price anymore. The skin is a little more thicker that I prefer but to each their own. Gobbled up crab soup dumplings and a plate of Shanghai fried noodles and left happy.

This was our third time at Tom's Dim Sum, the second as a larger group. Food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. This time was a bit awkward with our group as it is a smaller restaurant and I don't quite think they were prepared for us in a Friday night even though we had made a reservation. Crowd favorites were the chicken soup dumpling, Shanghai shumai, chicken skewers, and for dessert the piggy buns. This is a BYOB, so definitely consider bringing a bottle of wine if you're headed here for a casual date night!

Wowowow, loved this place. I was kind of worried though at first. I thought the food here wouldn't be too authentic because of the town and the people in it (i really mean no offense!!!) My friends and I were the only Asians in the restaurant. I'd assume that the food was tailored to accommodate the taste of the current clientele. But gosh was I wrong. This is super tasty authentic Dim Sun and I'm so happy because it was just that good:) Pork Soup Dumplings [5/5] Soup Dumplings were def a hit. Lots of juice inside. Hot & Sour Soup [5/5] Super tasty. Classic flavors, good portion. We got a Small but we're able to share among 4+ people. Shredded Pork [1/5] Not a huge fan of this. Sour, strong pickled flavor but also sweet. I really did not like this dish. Could not take a bite and keep it down. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves [4/5] Really good sticky rice. But just compared to our other dishes this one kinda fell in the shadow. The flavors aren't strong so not really memorable but still your typical zhong zi. And I really craved it so def good lol. Beef Ho Fun 5/5 Yummy. Good portions. Super tasty!!!

Get the piggy buns! So cute. Overall I like this place, everything we got was solid. Their soup buns are good contenders. They've got all your dim sum staples and more, so worth a try if you're craving some bao.

This place is sooo good!!!!! I live in Florida and whenever we are in town I make sure my family takes us to Tom's Dim Sum. The food is so fresh and the flavor is so authentic. I already know what I want to eat when I come back next year

First time came here and when we first got here, it was pretty empty (around 1:30 pm on a Saturday). Have heard of their dim sum and wanted to try here. after we ordered, there came 5 other groups of customers. We had the pork and crab soup dumpling. It came out quick and very juicy. The beef stir-fried noodle was good too! Very flavorful and well done. The sticky rice with chicken came in two small pieces, but with lots of stuffing. Overall this was a great meal. Everything we ordered came out really good. The only downside would be that they were all on the salty side... All the staff working there are super friendly too!

Unfortunately, the food and service fell far short of expectations. The service was completely 'hands off' throughout our visit. We were never offered tea, which is a standard baseline for hospitality at Chinese noodle houses. The bigger disappointment was the food itself. The seasoning was almost entirely flat -- the dishes lacked foundational aromatics like fresh ginger and toasted sesame oil, as well as any real umami or savory depth. I found myself having to rely heavily on the table vinegar and white pepper just to give the food some basic flavor. To top it off, the execution was poor. The char siu pork was simple and unseasoned rather than sweet and caramelized, and many pieces were trimmed so poorly that they were almost entirely unrendered fat. The stir-fried 'hand-drawn noodles' were broken into short, fragmented pieces rather than the long, elastic strands you expect from fresh lamian. It looks great on the inside, but the kitchen and service need a lot of improvement

(Note: if you only want smaller serving of their great, thick noodles, order $4 add-on as a side in place of rice with regular dish.) I always have leftovers to enjoy at home. Dumpling orders are large and shareable. (Always 6 or 8 pieces.) My fave when dining in is amazingly delicious and huge Fish Fillet in Hot and Sour Cabbage Broth. (That's best with rice side to help absorb broth.) So good and healthful to balance the dough density of whatever dumplings you might also order -- they're all great. When getting order to go (or delivered) I like Kung Pao Chicken; it travels well. Order added green veggie dish for sharing -- I lean toward Chinese Broccoli; you'll really want the balance with the delicious dumpling and noodle dishes. Large cocktail menu -- Lychee Martini is so refreshing. Important: cash only for dining in. There's an ATM by their front door. Takeout and delivery accepts credit cards. We were second standing outdoors waiting in this big fat long line. Immediately upon opening for the day the line nearly forced entry near stampede and this cafe was immediately packed to full occupancy of patrons with free seating. The Yelp reviews are accurate and truthful. The food is great. This is a small cafe with only approximately eight tables. I do not recommend large parties of five and greater. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. When exiting upon completion of our lunch meal, there was a line that quickly formed outdoors waiting. Unfortunately, access to this cafe in Edison, NJ is by car only and there is a free parking lot that is shared with neighboring businesses located in a small shopping complex. There are no business cards, and no takeout menus available. Customer service is efficient as the staff worked methodically hustling busy to take orders and fulfillment. Our male waiter was attentive to respond to our inquiries and make suggestions based on our desires. I was able to keep the sales receipt. Price is in the rationale realm of stagflation totaling $41.75. Nota Bene: No table hibernation as the table turnover is fast pace with a line overflowing outdoors which cannot interrupt the flow. My foodie synopsis: Pork steam soup dumplings, 6 pcs, siu2 lung4 baau1, 小籠包, $8.75 Very juicy, flavorful and great. It was served piping hot. This is my favorite default dish for every visit at any Shanghainese ethnic cuisine. However, there were no serving tongs provided for this particular appetizer which is industry standard. It has amazing flavor and texture to be deliciously enticing. Of course, the cooking wine brings flavor to this appetizer making you want more. Soup dumplings- the good thing is here they give you 8 pieces (vs 6 pieces in other NJ places). The skin is too thin. It was difficult to pick up with a chopstick or spoon and not 1 piece stayed intact while picking it up. All of the soup leaked out before it even reached my plate. The texture of the skin was "slippery" vs the bouncy kind I usually see with soup dumplings. My husband said he bit into a small piece of bone which is weird. Sweet soy milk- it wasn't a smooth drink. There were lots of soy grits Savory soy milk- tasted very watered down. Didn't have much soy milk flavor Pan fried dumplings- the portion was generous with 6 huge pan fried dumplings. These are the largest I've seen anywhere. They look more like buns than dumplings!! It was ok but overall it didn't taste like a pan fried dumpling. The owners seem really nice and friendly, chatting with some of the customers. Their service was good too.
