    Beef noodles soup

Fast food Din Tai Fung in the food court at Westfield Mall in Sydney CBD. It is at the top floor of the mall. You order at the kiosk and pay by card. It was pretty efficient. We ordered the beef noodle soup, the soup filled dumplings (XLB) and the spicy wonton noodles (dry). The XLB was not hot and more on the cold side but the texture and taste was there. The beef noodle soup was tasty and beef was tender. The spicy wonton noodles had too much mala spice and wasn't my favourite. Overall I would give it a 3.5-4 star.

I had 2 DTF locations bookmarked. This one was a 5-minute walk from my hotel so, I chose to go to this location. It's at a food court, basically. Community tables and chaos. It was super crowded and the line was long. One customer dropped his green slushy drink on the floor causing more chaos. They give you your receipt with a number so make sure you pay attention. You also get a pager. I had to wait a good 20 minutes to get my food. They don't have the xiao long bao with truffles that I like so I just got regular XLB and my usual beef noodle soup and soy bean milk. The beef noodle soup isn't as great as the ones I've had in China and Taiwan. The Australian version is quite sad. 3 pieces of beef, noodles and broth - no greens because you have to pay extra for it. What??? I'll try the other location next time.

Did not expect to find a DTF in a food court, but so happy we did! Honestly, just come for the soup dumplings, which they make fresh in front of you just like in their full restaurants - just as carefully constructed and consistent taste!

I heart Din Tai Fung. They have one in LA and its always been my favorite dumpling place. I was excited to hear that they had them in Sydney as well. Tried to go to Town Hall but it was way too busy. This one is located on the Westfield Level 5 food court. It can get busy so I'd suggest coming around 12 before the major lunch rush. The pork dumplings are just like I remember, delicious and juicy. The noodle soups are also good - spicy beef one is amazing, won ton noodle soup is yummy and the spicy vegetable won tons are good as well. Can't really go wrong with anything you order here. Bit pricey for what you get but you pay for quality.

Our first time at Din Tai Fung! And it was in a shopping mall in Sydney. Delicious! Soup dumplings had a lil bit of soup in them (could've done with more), and the noodles were slurp-alicious.

Din Tai Fung, possibly the best dumpling restaurant in Taiwan, is quite the popular place for tourists and locals alike. This is a must-eat for me whenever I visit Taiwan, so needless to say, I was pumped to find out that there are a couple of Din Tai Fungs in Sydney! I decided I would have some of my favorite dumplings for lunch on my second day of my Sydney excursion. I went to the one in the Westfield mall, so their selection was slightly smaller than their restaurants, but nevertheless, I ordered everything. =) We had the steamed pork dumpling, braised beef noodle soup, steamed pork buns, and the steamed mini dessert buns in red bean, black sesame, and taro. This place normally makes a mean steamed pork dumpling, but this food court version was just okay for what I expect from them. [From what I've seen, their quality control is pretty incredible] The noodles in this braised beef noodle soup were not as "Q" (aka bouncy, for lack of a better word), than the ones that I get in Taiwan, but it was not bad, and the first I've had here in Australia. Pork buns aren't usually my favorite, and I don't usually go for them and don't have a point of comparison, but they are definitely better than any place that I've tried around Brisbane. I was going for the dumpling desserts, which have the same filling as these, but with the limited food court selection, they didn't have what I wanted. Instead, we had the mini bun version, which was good, but definitely falls below my expectations. The filling didn't taste the same as it does in Taiwan [which is to be expected], and I wouldn't really recommend them. Overall really good for Oz, but quite $$.

Din Tai Fung is very popular in the US and the one closest to me often has a 3 hour wait. When I realized this location was just a couple of minutes from our hotel, I pitched it to my friend as an idea for breakfast. We ordered the regular pork XLB as well as the crab and pork XLB. We also ordered the spice prawn and pork dumpling and a sweet lava dumpling to finish. Maybe because this is in a food court but I expected higher quality. The regular pork XLB did not have very much juice at all. That's super disappointing since DTF is known for their juicy buns. The crab and pork version was extremely overpriced for what it was. I liked the spicy wontons and the spice mix is different than standard szechuan style dumplings. The mini meal was not cheap and it felt a-ok. Perhaps one of the non-food court options would've been of higher quality.

Maybe it's because I haven't been to the LA one for a bit or maybe because I haven't had many carbs of late, but the XLBs here were the best I've had and noticeably better than you find in LA. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/din-tai-fung-dumpling-bar-sydney?select=EgJ3gBTVGLCLhlZ8MTTkug#EgJ3gBTVGLCLhlZ8MTTkug To me, the skin was thinner and had a nice bite to them, while the soup and meat were more juicy and flavorful than their trans-pacific sister branch. On top of that, the mall where this food court is is the most posh food court I've ever seen. Be sure to save some room for some of the desserts around the corner!

Much better than DTF in the US but not as good as some of the better ones I had in Asia. The XLB were pretty juicy and tasty. Most importantly, there was no wait!!

This type of restaurant doesn't fit into the 'Mall food' equation that so many people will mentally make when considering a dining experience, but they will not be thinking of the $1.2B Westfield idea of a modern day food court. Contrasting popular belief that many people want cheap and quick often unhealthy food, you have an amazing selection of reasonably priced, eateries that offer up quick, mostly health, and always tasty delights. I'm very thankful that I was introduced to Din Tai Fung in World Square, and when I stumbled across their store in the Westfield's yesterday, I nearly wet myself. There was no line mediate to obtain my beloved morsels of dumpling goodness. I slowly approached and ordered the pork and prawn dumplings, 8 for dinner for 1. It was so quick I actually didn't have time to walk back to the table before my buzzer vibrated (only Mall-like feature) for me to pick up the delicious hand made parcels in the distance. The juices exploded in my mouth, and the chilli sauce spiced up the night, as me and the dumplings got down to business. It was a perfect night. Addiction? Yes.

They some things are worth waiting for and I would have to say this Dumpling Bar is - an with no ability to make a table booking you will have to wait at least 30 minutes for a table...but let me tell you - it's worth it! Other reviews will tell you about the food....so I'll give you some fun ideas of what to do whilst you wait.... Firstly, just because you can't order food, doesn't mean mean you cant sip of something special whilst you wait - a drinks menu is available for you to peruse, may I suggest their frozen lychee cocktail - WOW! Worth going just to try it.... On that, just so you know they have a very weird "system" at the Dumpling Bar - when you arrive add your name to the door, then if you want a drink you have to order from another person, pay to a 3rd person and collect it from a 4th.... it's a bit strange but it seems to work.... Another fun thing to do is to stare through the window at the chefs making the dumplngs. Their attention to detail is inspiring and it will definitely get you excited for your meal. This is a super place and I recommend anyone who likes a dumpling should give it a go!

Located in the Westfield mall's food court. They offer the majority of their popular items. You order at the counter and you collect your food when they buzz you. The quality is decent but not as good as their sit-down restaurants that I've previously been to. Better than nothing but your not getting the full Din Tai Fung experience.

Perfect for a quick DTF fix when you don't have much time. Much faster than the DTF restaurants, as you just line up to place your order. There is no lining up to get a table. However, come here for the food not the ambiance. This is food court seating, but it is a fairly upmarket food court with WiFi and other fantastic eateries, such as some great bakery options for dessert. The DTF Dumpling Bar menu choices are reduced some from the full restaurant, but they have all of my favorites and they are just as good. The XLBs are still made with the same care and precision. You see them carefully weighing each dumpling to ensure it has exactly the right number of grams (or fractions of an ounce) of soup filling.

The restaurant had no more than four parties when we arrived for a late dinner on a Monday night around 8pm. Then again, Lynn isn't very easy to spot if you're strolling along Castlereagh St, which may explain the emptiness. It's pretty standard to order xiao long baos at a Shanghainese restaurant. So of course, we got one order of #701 XLBs, along with #801 Shanghai Noodles with Shredded Pork and Vegetables and #805 Vegetable and Pork Wontons in Noodles with Hot and Spicy Sauce. The XLBs weren't amazing. The pork meat was bland, and the soup was very light and not as flavorful as I hoped. However, the skin was perfect: delicate and thin, yet sturdy enough to hold the meat and soup, and it had good texture. The Shanghai noodles weren't special either. I liked the variety of veggies and pork, but the dish overall needed more salt as it was tasteless and lacked any depth. The wontons and noodles in a hot and spicy sauce was a very heavy dish. Noodles had a very thick, starchy texture. Wontons were generously stuffed with a large amount of filling, mainly shredded vegetables because I didn't taste the pork, and the skin was too thick and chewy. The sauce was extremely spicy, and it irked me when we weren't automatically given water refills when our glasses were clearly empty. Lynn is a huge restaurant, so it can accommodate large groups. It's also very clean and modern. Service wasn't rude, but they certainly weren't attentive either. The only reason we tried this place was because they had a takeaway menu available at our hotel. The menu looked promising, but after dining here, we left unimpressed.

Well, as much as I like the dumplings at DTF, I don't think they're THE BEST EVER...and not for the price you pay. So I started a search on other soup dumplings in the city and came across Lynn Shanghai, as it opened up relatively recently. The place is a little hard to find, the sign is small and it's actually inside a building so you have to walk through a lobby to get into the restaurant. The building is located next to the Scientology building (why, I don't know) and that's all you need to know to find it. The place is a lot bigger than anticipated, and there's an open kitchen so you can see the dumplings and food being made. The chefs all wear masks so you can feel relieved you aren't getting stank breath on your food. The menu is rather extensive and offers all sorts of cuisine from Shanghai, but I came for the dumplings. Pan fried and steamed please. For $8.80, you get 6 dumplings...not the cheapest but cheaper than DTF and just as good...if not BETTER. Seriously, I don't know what the fuss is about DTF, the dumplings are pretty small and while tasty, they're not that tasty. There also isn't much of a wait for this place as it's still relatively new, so if you're feening for some soup dumplings and don't want to queue at DTF, this is the place to go. I haven't been back to DTF since.
