Always satisfied with Diner 31. Food, service always consistent. Waitresses attitudes always upbeat, welcoming and they know many customers by name and that says a lot. I recently commented on a $15.00 breakfast at Chef Jarod's and Company that is literally less than 30 second drive and 2 minute walk from each other. Look at the picture and for the same price you decide. You can substitute the biscuits and gravy with pancakes if you wish too. Eggs cooked perfectly to order. Coffee cup continuously filled. Everyone needs a little breakfast in their lives, and since I'm part of everyone I decided to try this little spot out! It was a small, quaint little place. Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. Don't go there if you want crispy hash browns. We asked for crispy and even sent them back. The server, Lina, who was outstanding, cringed when she brought them back because she could see the cook isn't into crispy. Otherwise a nice breakfast. read more

This classic little diner is charming inside with interstate decor and cozy as it can handle about 35-40 patrons at tables, in booths and 5-6 counter seats. The menu is smaller but everything is made with love and hits the spot for breakfast and brunch. The coffee was great served in classic white diner mugs that feel good in your hand. I enjoyed the Sugar Pearl Waffles (in the batter which give a delightful crunch/ bite every now and then. Plus side of eggs and sausage patties. My friend's had loaded biscuits and gravy which she really enjoyed. This place has been well visited and loved, as my booth seat had lots of tape over worn areas. Lol The bathroom was very clean and spacious. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive at just the right time. Had the breakfast quesadilla for lunch. Came with hashbrowns (or American fries) so I asked to add onions. Exceptionally boring food. No love that I could feel. Charged me $.99 for onions. Oh, and by the way $2.59 if you want an extra egg. It's a tiny little place with very limited seating and for a bonus you can get lecture from the young waitress about how much food costs, especially in bulk? We come into town once a year for a big family reunion and Diner 31 is our last stop before we head home. Again, a year later Queen Elizabeth is still here with warm welcoming smiles and Z is here doing a great job as well. The kitchen staff is amazing and although very short staffed, the team worked effectively and diligently to ensure our food was perfect and our time spent with them is memorable. Be sure to stop in and say hello while supporting locals! They rely heavily on tourism in the summer and delivering the best service possible! Always remember to continue to be kind to one another. A nice quaint place. Very clean and open feeling. I loved the decorations and signage! I have a small compliant. I have no issue with places changing their menus. However if you went through the effort to print the menu, then please update your online menu. I cane here to try the Monte Cristo. However it's no longer on the menu! Instead I ordered a BLT ($10). It was a very good sandwich! It wasn't a Monte though! The service was excellent, with jokes included free of charge. Overall a 4 star review. Would I return? If I lived in the area, then yes. It seems like a consistently good place. Since I don't live in area and would probably only be passing through,  probably not. I'd probably try somewhere else. read more

Delicious breakfast!! It's a small, quaint diner yet surprisingly we didn't have to wait mid morning on a Saturday. Probably because they move fast! Friendly, attentive wait staff. Breakfast was on point. Everything cooked Beautifully. Tried the Captain's breakfast: 2 eggs over medium, American fries (hard to find and theirs are delicious!!), bacon (slightly over cooked, very crispy) and fresh swirl rye bread. I loved their coffee and I know I'm a little picky. Vanilla coffee creamer and multiple jelly choices. Entire table left happy and full. We will return! read more

Classic midwestern diner in the BEST way. Listen, don't come here if you want to be treated like a princess and don't be rude to the staff. This place is a local favorite with excellent food, but they're understaffed in the summer when the tourists pour in. Be patient, and enjoy the local chit-chat, relaxed vibe, and retro Michigan decor. The corned beef is awesome, the pancakes are fluffy, the blueberries are fresh, the maple syrup is local and the coffee is hot. The staff are hard working and kind. Excellent food and coffee with an extensive menu. Only caveat I have is it is extremely busy, so be prepared for a wait, at least when my family was there this Sunday. It will be worth the wait. BTW, they have their own coffee blend. We bought some whole beans to take home with us. They also have ground coffee for sale. read more

My only regret with this diner is that I didn't get to try more of the food... The day we went to Diner 31, it was later in the day... we had gone through a pretty bad breakfast experience (see my review of Lakeside Cafe) and we were hungry and ready to take anything... It's a very small diner in the town of Manistee, and I do mean small. Again, I mentioned we went late in the morning, trying to get some breakfast and a 10 minute wait was nothing compared to what we could've gone through. The only downside is there is no real waiting area, the door opens up to a booth on either side of you so you're basically in a little hallway at the door. That being said... you have to wait outside when it gets really busy so you don't get into anyone's way. The waitresses got good at coming out to check on you, announcing when they had a table open... but it is a "seat yourself" diner, so we were a little worried they'd forget about us, so we checked every so often ourselves. To me, that's not the greatest design, and honestly... it's not the most accessible from the outside. Being a wheelchair user, I notice the small things when it comes to accessibility, and in this case... it was a big thing... a big hill to be exact. Diner 31 I just off the road, but also on top of a very steep hill. You can park in the front and have no issues, but if it's full, down the hill you go, and it's a good push to get up it. Luckily, after a bit of driving around, a spot in the front opened up. Now, for the best part... the FOOD! The food at Diner 31 is nothing short of amazing. We were there at breakfast and me, my mom and my dad are really big eggs Benedict people. Me and dad ordered Dinner 31 Benny and mom got the Dirty Benny. Moms had egg, bacon, ham and sausage on top with the typical holandas, ours was the same... with the exception of having sausage gravy on top! I know, I was drooling to. This is the type of menu that I would love to have tried more of, but sadly... but stomach can only take so much. Overall, if you go at the right time, on a nice day where being outside is ok... 10/10, would recommend. read more

Small corner restaurant but boy does it have some great servers and fantastic food! Best part is they also have the best prices in town! On our most recent trip I was very enthusiastic about my morning coffee and so the waitress brought me an oversized cup . I tried the Dirty Benny which is an eggs benedict with ham, sausage, and bacon on it. All three meats were quality meats, and the portion of the meal was very generous. The eggs were a little more cooked than I would have preferred and the hollandaise sauce was a little bland, however the meat and price more than compensated for this minor flaw. I would highly recommend this place for an affordable and quick breakfast trip! read more

This is my 92 year old mothers favorite restaurant ( Mine too ). Everytime we enter we are greeted with a welcome hello and mom with a hug. Their breakfast are the best in town and there staff is the friendliest in town. If I lived in town I would be here everyday. I dont but it is my breakfast spot every time I'm in Manistee.
