Empty on a Saturday at 11am. Time from order to food on table, 9 minutes. Had the cheese curds which were good. Onion rings were not as great. Yes, they're real onions, but season your batter as there was not a grace of anything in it. It was very bland and disappointing. Overall, ok place to get a burger but there are much better ones. read more

This is classic drive in food (they unfortunately don't do carhops anymore). I love their food and try to stop every time I'm in town. This is nostalgia food for me. It's not fancy, they don't even salt their fries (ask for salt packets)! Get a double cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry shake. read more

When you come to Manitowoc you have to eat at Lates. Period. This place has been in business for 40 yrs plus and continues to rock cheeseburgers, perch sandwiches, and cheese curds. Lucky for me I live nearby. Old school diner feel - one booth only has seating on one side and there are plenty of barstools around 2 circular counters. They also have plenty of historic photos of Manitowoc that I still look at every time I go there . Now that Culver's & Burger King and McDonalds are so expensive, you may as well spend your money at the small business mom & pop diners. I do. read more

As much as I'd love to give a 5 star for the mere local and feel/idea of this place, I cannot. Very cute interior with an old fashioned Mayberry feel. There were 2 waitstaff present. One was on the ball while the one I had seemed apathetic. I watched 2 gentleman place their order and receive their food before I even ordered. My scrambled eggs were very lightly scrambled with clumps of raw gooey egg white. The coffee is of poor quality. I do not eat meat but was burping up the taste of undercooked pork sausage the entire morning. Dissappointing food and service but quaint ambiance. read more

Um, if you like a fresh, real, cheeseburger, go here. Best I've had in a long time. Staff was helpful and friendly, make sure you tip her! Perfect little diner. If the place is jammed packed- don't let that scare you off. The service was ridiculously fast. My girls chose a chocolate shake and peanut butter shake from the very long list. They loved them. Pulled pork was fantastic- I ate it right from a bowl (I avoid gluten) and had to steal it back from my kids because they liked it too. My girls loved their fried chicken sandwich and cheeseburger. We ordered fries, cheese curds and onion rings. There were plenty and were perfect!! Very speedy and friendly service. Great spot for 'diner' food- we had fried perch sandwich-tender,fried crispy&tasty! The bacon double cheese burger juicy with gooey melted cheese and really good Newton bacon, cheese curds were disappointing , overcooked and lacking seasoning but a maple bacon malt made up for them--perfect combo of sweet and savory--would return just that! read more

Terrible food. Ordered a double cheeseburger, onions rings, and cheese curds. First off the patty's on that burger were very thin! omg i wouldn't even call it a hamburger patty! What a rip off! 2nd the onion ring. the batter was terrible. Had no taste to them! The cheese curds were stuck together covered in grease. Service was terrible the young girl who took our order never checked on us once we got our food. I've worked in the service industry so i know how you should be with your guests. Checking on them though out the visit, refilling drinks etc. This is the first time going to this restaurant. I will not be back. read more

Was looking for a lunch spot today, and came across this place. Reviews looked solid, and looked like a traditional diner, which I typically love. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and was surprisingly disappointed. The bacon was outstanding, but the bacon and bun were literally all I could taste. The burger patty was honestly the thinnest piece of meat I've ever seen anywhere; and that includes every fast food burger chain I've ever been to. Service was extremely quick, but service doesn't trump quality in this case. read more

My family was visiting Manitowoc early morning on 8/9/2020. I did a quick Yelp search for a place to get breakfast. I chose Late's based on the positive reviews, and am very glad I did. The place is about traditional diner as you can get, but the service and the food was outstanding. And very reasonably priced as well. I would recommend stopping in. Nothing fancy here, just great hospitality, and value. Plus it is across from Red Arrow park on Lake Michigan. Last thing. Bring cash. read more

Watch out!! THEY ONLY TAKE CASH BUT THEY DO HAVE AN ATM AT THE SIDE DOOR. Besides that, really cheap prices and the food there is amazing. I had the chicken Parmesan sandwich which is given to you in a paper wrap. I also had a cup of their wild rice soup and wow it was amazing. The person I was with got their chili and said it's one of the best she has ever had. Restaurant Looks kinda sketchy on the outside but don't worry, it's cozy and dated on the inside. I grew up with lates and it's within a mile of my childhood home. I haven't been to lates in almost 2 years. What a treat to see it has not changed much. I ordered to go and went to pick it up and it was ready when i got there. I noticed they redid the counter tops. Looks very nice and clean. The lady's working were very nice! I enjoyed the cheeseburger cheescurds and fries. Fries coulda been cooked a little more (kinda mushy) I can't wait to go back again! read more

Found this great little place by search the map for breakfast. It is kind of hidden, out of the way. But definitely worth the turn around to find. It is almost a throw back to the diner from the 40' & 50's. Food was amazing. Ordered the make my own omelette. It was huge, and the eggs were fluffy and amazing. Also, had a side of the bratwurst hash. That was really good. Highly recommend. Bacon!!! The bacon was real bacon. Not that paper thin stuff other restaurants serve. Definitely stop in. Cash only business. So be sure to have paper to pay. We will definitely return if in the area. read more

The shrimp dinner was the redeeming grace from the disappointment of the clam chowder. The dining room is small, and dimly lit, with the tables close together. Overall it was a good experience, and another trip may be a possibility in the future.

The mozzarella sticks are the same kind you can get from Arby's or the hot deli area of Walmart. Yes they are mozzarella sticks and can maybe satisfy a craving if needed, but they're not as good as Italian breaded for wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks. I'm not usually a big fan of charbroiled burgers and I could tell the meat was out of a frozen box of patties, but it was a solid tasting burger. It didn't come with a side, which for the price I assumed was the case ($7.50 as of 2/3/2025). That might be the most I would pay for it, but would consider getting it again. Like the burger, the perch sandwich did not come with a side, so $10 for a single butterfly of perch on a roll was close to my wallet's limit, but that was a tasty piece of fish. I don't find myself in Manitowoc often, but if I did I'd be intrigued by their double perch plate on Fridays given the quality of the the perch in this sandwich. The star of the meal was the taco egg rolls. The size of a typical veggie spring roll and in the same crispy wrapper, these egg rolls come in an order of three or six and I wish I had ordered six instead of three. The taco meat had an amazing kick to it and there was enough cheese inside to be noticeable yet not take away from the meat. I didn't end up using the sour cream or nacho cheese they provided because I wanted to savor the flavor of the egg roll itself, but I appreciate having both options to dip them in.

We stopped in for lunch, it was busy the tables were full so we sat at the bar. After reviewing the menu, I decided on the cheeseburger boat. It included a cheeseburger and fries. They have an open concept, so you can see the cook, making the deliciousness right there. They use fresh ground beef and the buns are from a local bakery. My burger was cooked perfectly and was delicious! The fries were crispy and golden. We can see why this is a local favorite and will eb hack when a burger craving strikes! FYI-They are cash only so be prepares if you visit.
