Chicken Fried Steak with Cheesey Hasbrowns.

Arrived a few minutes after 1pm on a Sunday. The place was hoppin! A sign said to seat ourselves. We chose a table in the dining room. The walls are covered with beer signs, trophy fish and old antiques. Fitting for the oldest running saloon in town. Our waitress arrived promptly and took our orders. Our drinks came back quickly and we knew what we wanted. I ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of cheesesy hashbrowns (Additional $1.50), coleslaw and a roll. My friend ordered the 4 piece bbq chicken with fries, coleslaw and a roll. The wait wasn't long. 10-15 minutes if that. My chicken fried steak was good. The cheesey hasbrowns were worth the extra charge! And I don't usually like coleslaw but this was great! My friend sure did enjoy his chicken! The service, food, PRICE for what you get and attmosphere were all EXCELLENT!

    Antique bar, cool picture!

Up in Manistee camping and Hub and I decided to try Painted Lady Saloon based on all the good reviews and it did not disappoint. Parking lot was full for a Monday night at 7:00. Walked in and it was like a walk back in time, very nostalgic, huge wrap around wooden bar in great condition with some original decor all over the restaurant. This is the oldest operating Saloon in Manistee, Circa1892!! They have a dining room on the other side of the bar area. Very busy but we were lucky to get a high top table on the bar side. Several TV's, Tiger baseball game on. Sweet waitress took care of us, they always serve 4 choices of soup, we both got a cup of the Pepper Jack cheeseburger soup and it was piping hot and delicious. I ordered the patty melt and fries, cooked perfectly, huge 1/2 pd burger, yum. Hub got the Reuben and he enjoyed his as well. Enjoyed ourselves along with the locals drinking, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers, the noise level was high but everyone was having a good time. They are famous for their Broasted chicken and sell a huge amount. Prices reasonable, come by and check out this historic restaurant in Manistee, Michigan. Debbie

First time we went it was later in the day for drinks and a snack but..... today we came for breakfast!! And they killed it!! Huge portions and great quality at great prices. Service was great. Love the interior.

Found this gem thanks to Yelp! So happy we went away from the shoreline to eat here. Yes it's small, yes the decor is eclectic, yes the bathroom is only one stall, but it's worth the stop. We sat ourselves at the bar. We were greeted promptly and our drink order was served quickly. Long island ice tea and summer shandy on tap. We had the duck wonton appetizer, chicken wings, and walleye. Everything served warm and prompt. People coming and going all the time. Super packed but comfortable. Loved the touch tunes jukebox so.we listened to our music and ate. Meal cost around $80.00 with tip. Very good for the food received. Thank you yelpers for the hook up. We will come back.

Ordered pretzel sticks with beer cheese for appetizer and BLT. Both were yummy, but the pretzel sticks were out of this world! Very nice waitress too. Only complaint is the waiting time.

    4 piece broasted chicken.

Best Fish Fry in town! Arrived around 5pm on a Friday and they were busy! Friendly servers greet you and help find a table (although I think it's seat yourself). We started with fried pickles and mozzarella sticks. Pretty good. The side salads are just big enough and include dried cranberries. Nice touch. All four of us ordered the special Cod Fish Fry and you should ask about the vast potato choices: fries, side winders, baked potato, broasted, sweet potato fries...veggie choice is coleslaw, apple sauce, cottage cheese or mixed veg. Includes a side of bread and tartar sauce. Three large pieces of Delicious, crispy beer battered cod. Efficient. We enjoyed dinner and finished rather fast. You'll be happy you stopped by!

Broasted I with fries, Cole slaw, garlic bread

Food is excellent. 4 piece broasted chicken dinner only $11.95. The service was good and the atmosphere is very laid back. We come here every time we travel through Manistee.

Food to rival the meals of kings at Coney Island pricing. A revelation! Worth the effort to find.

I recently commented on a $15.00 breakfast at Chef Jarod's and Company that is literally less than 30 second drive and 2 minute walk from each other. Look at the picture and for the same price you decide. You can substitute the biscuits and gravy with pancakes if you wish too. Eggs cooked perfectly to order. Coffee cup continuously filled. This is a busy diner and the wait at the door is well worth it.

Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. I would turn this bacon away at the door. Ultimately, it was a breakfast place. It did what it set out to do. Chocolate milk 10/10 Made up breakfast foods 3/3 Flaccid bacon 5/10

The restaurant is a house in downtown Traverse City. They only have space for 22 seats, and it was never full during our visit. It is intimate and welcoming. I made a reservation three months ahead, and obtained a seating for 8pm. We were welcomed warmly, and immediately seated. A complimentary mushroom broth "tea" was brought out. My friend who does not like mushrooms even enjoyed it. The service was perfect. Our server understood how to facilitate tasting courses, and the one very small misstep (under down steak for the member of our party that is pregnant, so it was not a being picky situation) was immediately handled without needing to be asked. The wine sommelier did a beautiful pairing. She offered the right level of presentation. Our group of four did the tasting menu. As they are farm to table, and the menu is constantly changing, it is not beneficial to discuss specific menu items. I do want to say the celery soup was representative of the experience, something I would not think to try or sounded amazing but was. My non dessert eating friend loved her dessert, she actually ate the entire cake. Interesting, creative, but not pretentious. A meal to be remembered.

We made the reservation a month in advance and still had to settle for 8:30 time slot. But it was absolutely worth it! Incredible doesn't begin to explain this restaurant! First, it's in the middle of a neighborhood. The name is perfect because it's literally a house. Very small which explains the need for reservations. The biggest stand out for me was the impeccable service! Your glass is never empty. If you get up, your napkin is promptly refolded. This was absolutely 5 star treatment. You also receive several courses with your meal. The food was OUTSTANDING. The menu changes frequently which is awesome because you'll never get bored. There is an Ala carte menu and a tasting menu. I was told to expect two hours for the 5 course tasting at 3 for the 7 course. Being that it was so late we stuck with ala carte. I honestly can't wait to plan a full tasting but it will have to be well planned out so I can get earlier reservations.
