My son and I were in Peebles for the morning so we stopped in for breakfast. It was around 10am…read moreand there were only a few people eating when we arrived. The young woman who served us was friendly, took our orders, and a short while later returned with our meals. I had pancakes, eggs and sausage while my son had biscuits and gravy. The pancakes were huge and tasted great. I could only eat about half my breakfast. My son enjoyed his breakfast as well. Several times throughout our visit our server checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. As we ate, more people started to arrive and filled in the dining room. At one point our server went out the door in order to help an elderly gentleman with a walker navigate the ramp and door. This is everything that a small town diner should be. I look forward to a return visit when I find myself in the area again.

Let me start off by saying that I LOVE small businesses and I LOVEEEE diners and cafes. They're all…read moredifferent and it's just nice to go into a small town restaurant! Me, my one year old son, my father and my husband came to grab lunch at Mel's after a nice day out. I am biracial (black and white) and my husband and father are Caucasian. The moment I walked in, all eyes were on me. We had no greeting which was the least of my problems. We sat at the table near the door. Once we sat down, we were handed menus but not a word was mentioned to us as our waitress spoke with another gentleman she just handed a menu to. I kept using my manners and being respectful to our waitress but she NOT ONCE made eye contact with me or said a single word to me. Only spoke to my husband an father. To the point where she handed us TWO SEPARATE CHECKS BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO TALK TO US LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW WE WERE ON THE SAME TAB! While we were ordering my husband and I heard someone say "I didn't know we served people like that here" and "well we're all republican here." Now I know they cannot manage conversations that are happening while people are enjoying their food but it still made me feel VERY uncomfortable. Our food was okay. I got fish and chips which were pretty bland. No seasoning at all. My husband got BLT wraps and he said they were actually pretty good! My father had the meatloaf and he rated it 8/10. My son had the mini corn dogs and he seemed to like them. Pricing was really decent other than the fact that when we asked for ranch she brought over packets of ranch and failed to ask how much we wanted and also failed to mention there was an extra charge. I will not be returning. I felt discriminated against and that the service was horrible. Your food is not good enough to make up for your bad service.

Wait time: just a few minutes on a Saturday around 1 PM…read moreAtmosphere: this place is always busy and they're usually no seats available, sometimes you can squeeze in at the counter. Service: I think today they had about one server on each side of the diner, so it was a little slow, but there were a lot of people there Food: food is always good. I heard their breakfast is usually amazing. I decided to try their open face turkey and I got the half portion which was a small sliver of turkey not even worth mentioning. But it was good. Their mashed potatoes are the bomb for diner potatoes love them.! Price: $$ affordable Cleanliness: 8/10

For appetizers, we had jalapeño poppers, chili cheese fries, and tater tots. All were very good. For lunch, we had a turkey bacon club melt, a bacon cheeseburger, meatloaf, and something else that I can't remember. All of it came out hot from the kitchen, and was very good. For dessert we had apple pie à la mode, and excellent coconut cream pie. We don't recommend the apple pie, but we absolutely recommend the coconut cream pie. Cruisers Diner is about an hour drive from my house, and just a little over an hour from my sister's house, so it's our favorite place to meet. It is very clean, and affordable, with true diner food. Its location just off of Route 32 makes it very accessible from east and west. Route 62 gives easy access from north and south, too..

That is always a great place to start when looking for a meal when on the road…read more Nothing "wrong" with the Big Chains, they have their place, but the local booths should always be sat in and their tables supped at. Maddy's fit the bill for a break away from work lunch while on the road. Right out of the 50's, this gleaming location greets you with chrome, red bar stools, the requisite "Kiss My Grits" tin sign on the wall, and 50's music piping from the speakers. The special that day: double cheeseburger. $6. In today's economy?? Only $6?? All the menu items were priced nicely, easy on the wallet. While I was tempted to try a burger, I wanted to see how a diner classic would pan out, so ordered the country fried steak. Placed my order, and before I could manage to take in all the deco on the walls the food arrived from the line station right behind the counter. They serve you a steak knife, but you don't need it, the steak is fork ready, as it should be. They give you two sides option, so I went with green beans and taters, of the french variant. Both were spot on, and I left full and satisfied. I think the total bill came in under $10 or right around there. Good food, filling, and super light on the budget - what more can you ask for? If you find yourself in Waverly, OH, and you would like to fill your belly without worrying about a side hustle to pay the tab, head to Maddy's.
