Not sure if this is a new thing or just specific to this location - but there was only one size- LARGE. I'm hoping they're not manipulating customers with no choice. We also like going to Ding tea as they have various locations and we thought that we can order our same preferences at any location, but that wasn't the case here. This location was very quiet yesterday- Saturday afternoon. There were only two other people waiting for their drinks when we arrived. Despite the store being fairly empty, customer service was bad. My friend and I had some trouble finding a seasonal drink (mulberry tea) in the self service kiosk, and when we went to ask for help, the staff member could not be bothered. They were visibly annoyed that we spoke to them. They just said, "oh, it's on there." They didn't offer to help us find it or offer take our order at the register instead. We kept looking on our own at the self service kiosk and eventually found it. Usually when ordering boba, it's a really quick in and out experience. However, at this location, we waited about 15-20 minutes. The ambiance was quiet here and there was nice natural light. It would be a good location to do some studying. What a difference four miles makes. I've ordered from both Ding Tea in San Marcos and Ding Tea in Vista but we have been using Vista way more. When we went in person to the one in San Marcos (which is only around four miles away) we assumed that we'd be able to order the same things that we've been ordering recently. That was so not the case. Things that we've been getting from Ding Tea Vista that we couldn't here: mango jelly, horchata milk tea, mango chamoy. The problem was that the young lady taking orders was so rude and seemed genuinely annoyed that we were asking for these things. I would never "ding" a place for one rude employee, but the combination of that and not having items we like on the menu was too much. I looked on their website and what the employee said was true. Accessibility: there are a few disabled parking spots in front of the store but then the rest of the parking is pretty limited as this is a busy area with businesses and apartments directly next to it. There are two pull doors to enter the building but they were both propped open tonight around 8 PM. There are a few wheelchair accessible tables to use outside as well as more inside. The employees here are SUPER nice so if you need assistance, just ask and I bet they would gladly help. Experience: as soon as I came inside the employees said "welcome" and it was very cute inside! When it was my turn to order the employees were so cheerful and happy to answer my 10 questions, not rushing me even with a line behind me. I felt very welcomed and attended to here! Got a taro milk tea - cant really mess this up Hokkaido milk tea - very strong tea flavor but I dig it!! What i liked was their fresh and hot boba. I work close by here (Kaiser Permanente) and ever so often, my workplace orders multiple cups of boba tea. Luckily they were open on both Christmas Eve and New Years eve. The boba is always so chewy and perfect. I typically order the lychee milk tea or the green guava tea with golden boba (50 percent sugar and 50 percent ice). I also ordered a slushee boba for my nieces off their holiday menu and pleasantly it was not too sweet. The parking can be horrendous during peak hours but so well worth it. They also do deliver via grub hub or you can order via the app for it to be ready when you get there. I got the brown sugar milk tea and it was underwhelming. It didn't taste like brown sugar, very light. I couldn't adjust the sugar on the website since it's made with a syrup, or so I'm told. The winter melon green milk tea was good hot, but I've had better. The boba wasn't sweetened, it was regular boba and again, underwhelming. I'll come back and try other flavors, maybe I just ordered the wrong ones, but I wasn't too impressed. I was a bit nervous to come try Ding Tea since I had a really great experience at the SD location 2 years ago, but then had a mediocre experience from Carlsbad a few months ago. Third time is the charm?! (We visited 12/28/20) PSA: golden boba is 55 cents, but they also have monster boba for 75 cents. The difference? Monster boba is your traditional darker color boba, and it's supposedly cooked longer to absorb more flavor. We ordered: 1. Hokkaido oolong milk tea with golden boba (large) 2. Thai milk tea with golden boba (medium) 3. Signature milk tea with golden boba (large) +1 though they use creamer, but I appreciate it doesn't leave a weird after taste like Kung Fu Tea +1 milk tea was pretty good +/-1 Hokkaido tastes like toffee pump -100 bad boba...I liked the golden boba before, but either they changed the recipe or this location did it differently - it's extremely small in size and flavorless. Why would I need to pay 20 cents more for the normal boba that you can get at other places?! Shouldn't you be trying to perfect the golden boba since other places don't have it?! Overall, was quite disappointed here. Kung Fu wins by a small margin, so I would be cautious to come to Ding Tea again. read more

As my wife and I continue on our quest to find the best boba in San Diego, we decided to drop by here. It finally didn't have a long line, so it was worth the wait lol. Parking is hit or miss as is everything else in this small strip mall/mixed use area. Service was prompt and our drinks were amazing! The gold boba was a surprise in my milk tea. What I like the most about their drinks is that they always seem to have just the right amount of ice and sweetness. I don't find myself cringing after the first sip! I wasn't a huge fan of the Hokkaido Oolong Milk Tea though, despite it being one of the "top" flavors. I felt it was too sweet, and you can't adjust the sweetness level because it is made with syrup. The golden boba were also small, don't have the hint of honey, and underwhelming. Maybe I'll have to try a different flavor next time and do without the actual pearls. - Took about 10 min from ordering at the counter to getting our drinks. - Medium vs. large is actually quite a size difference, so you may want to pay the extra 55 cents for the upgrade! Ding Tea Boba is pretty stellar. I've read that they have multiple locations but we stopped in late night at their San Marcos location and we were impressed. The storefront was easy to find and there was as street parking available. The interior was super clean and organized with so many signs of different boba options and pretty pictures to help you decide what to get. To be honest it was a bit overwhelming as they had so many options, but hey who doesn't love options?! I went based off of the pictures and ordered a tiger milk tea which seemed like a regular milk tea with brown sugar and boba. The cost here is a little steep. I know boba has been the trend for awhile now and it is an art form in a way but it's still hard to justify paying $20+ for three drinks. Especially because we ordered two smalls and one large. Breaking the bank a little for a drink that you can sip away within minutes. Anyways, when my order came up the Tiger tea looked really pretty. I love their durable plastic cups and the presentation was pretty with milk tea swirled with black boba and brown sugar. I would say it looked a little better then it tasted though. This is just my preference but I am not a fan of the boba balls being warm. Here they serve it warm and when you order a cold drink it's kinda unbalances the taste you are going for. I wasn't a huge fan because of this. I know this is just how some places do it but not my go to. I'd probably rate this spot a solid 3.5 but my two friends were much happier with their drinks. Ding Tea is my new favorite tea spot. Especially since they've opened this location in North County. My son, who regularly frequented the location in La Jolla (with the rest of UCSD) turned me on to it months ago. This was before they opened in San Marcos. So, after he moved back home b/c of the covid-ting and found out they opened up in SM, we were there! This tea (Oolong, Black and Green) is high quality compared to many of the others. Although I wish they had a good app, their online ordering ain't bad. It's worked out nicely that we've been able to order/pay online, tell them when to have it ready and pick it up minutes later. We get there and all I have to do is walk up and they have an employee waiting by the door to hand us our special creations. Yum! It makes it safe, easy and quick. The location doesn't seem the best - it's a block off of San Marcos Blvd and can't be seen from that street, but there's always been a handful of people waiting for their drinks so I know if you're a connoisseur you'll find it. A nice shop. My kid and I came in today to check out the new shop that is near to our local WinCo. We ordered our teas with boba and waited a few minutes for our selections to be custom blended. What we received was delicious iced tea. The teas were proper, our ice levels were as ordered (you get to choose how much ice you actually want in your beverage), and the boba to liquid ratio was perfect. The service is efficient enough. Sadly, it's a little cool and seemingly unfriendly-they need to work on the service with a smile motto. But the shop is new, and perhaps the staff is suffering from "new shop jitters". Came by to check it with my kids. Sooooooo many people in there. There were even students who were trying to do their work, but I don't know how they could get any work done with that amount of noise...hahaha. My sister and I were placing an order of 5 drinks and were taking slightly longer than usual deciding on sweetness and ice levels (nothing excessive) and the cashier looked visibly annoyed. Caught some attitude when asking us questions. When paying the cashier handed back the change and literally threw it into my sisters hand very rudely.
