The outside of the place....it's near a thrift store

My first time trying Burmese cuisine....I was hungry and it was close to my destination, why not? I order what looked familiar....Lo Mein with Veggies. I waited less than 10 minutes and took it to my car to eat. Oh my....tasty, hot, and fresh!!! I loved it and will return. Note: I got a level 3 spice and it was turnt up....but it was so good it didn't matter.

After checking out Rebel Muse, we ate here. We've never had Burmese food, so why not try it. It's in a worn down shopping center. Looks like it used to be a happening place. It's nice and quiet inside the restaurant. Not many tables. My husband got the flat noodles. Not the Cantonese flat noodles, the description says gravy..there was no gravy. Whatever he had was good though. I told my husband want I wanted and went to the restroom to wash my hands. He ordered something completely different than what I told him. Lol. The braised pork belly stew was delicious. I don't think I would order it again though, but I definitely would come back here to eat.

Great food! We tried the sweet rice appetizer and the dumplings. Also tried a beef soup and fried rice. Delicious!!! Fresh and tasty. Burmese milk tea was good too. We will be back!

Really good food! A very incognito restaurant I would say, I only discovered it by luck one day as I was in that area. Became a regular!

At the low end of Burmese that I have been to. Very limited menu with many menu items not available. Curry's are lacking.

Good food! Eat there once a month. F4 combo is the best. The staff is great and food is even better.

Clean and friendly ! Probably the ONLY surviving Burmese restaurant in the Lone Star State. Recommended if you like to try Burmese food.

We ordered some items to eat for lunch and then some items to take home for later. I ordered the shrimp and eggplant curry and the palatha flatbread to accompany. It is really difficult to describe the flavor profile. Rich, tangy, full of umami??????? Please just get any dish on the menu and this is the experience you will have. My husband gets C2 (Basil Chicken) every time. This time he said he could have drunk the leftover broth. Well, he got the chance when he ordered a C2 to go! LOL! I ordered the chili lamb for my to go order and it was unbelievably delicious and seasoned perfectly. This restaurant is absolutely spic and span EVERY time we are here. Clean throughout and clean restrooms. This is a family owned restaurant and whoever takes your order is probably one of the owner's children. Such neat people and a dining experience.

While the bahn mi isn't exactly traditional, it is still very good -- I'd highly suggest getting it with the pate. The sampler appetizer has a little bit of everything and is great for sharing. Pineapple fried rice was delicious. Pad Thai also great! If you're a spicy eater like me, just go for very spicy. They have 4 spice levels (mild, medium, spicy, very spicy) and this is a reminder to myself to get very spicy next time. Thanks for the delicious meals!

A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
