Under the appetizer section. A perfect lunch for 1 the paratha (served with a little chicken curry)

If you have never had Burmese food, I would describe it as a cross between Indian food and Thai food. San Francisco has long been known for some of the best and earliest Burmese restaurants in the country. While Burma Superstar is very famous and quite good, my personal favorite has always been Mandalay on California Street. Since moving to Texas, I have found it challenging to discover well reviewed and interesting independent restaurants. I was at the Marshalls a block away and searched Yelp for lunch nearby. This place is tucked in a strip mall across the street and you could almost miss it, but I am so glad I found it. I would love to return with friends to try a variety of dishes, but on this visit I was just looking for a lighter, quick lunch. I ordered the paratha bread which comes with a mall side of curry (this was in the appetizer section of the menu) It was not inexpensive at about $15, but it was worth it. The food came out piping hot. The bread was perfectly crispy and chewy, and if you have never tried this style of bread, you definitely should. The curry was flavorful with potatoes and a bit of chicken, just the right amount for dipping. I left feeling pleasantly full and very happy. I do wonder if it gets busy for dinner. It would be great if they offered lunch specials with a curry choice and bread or rice and maybe a veg, but either way, I will be back.

After a pickleball session with one of my Indonesian friends, he suggested we hit this place and refuel. Of course, like most Americans I am not exactly sure where Burma is (partly because it is now called Myanmar). My geographic deficiency aside, we met up at this place in Lewisville near Music City Mall (off MacArthur and Round Grove). It is a small and simple place. Entry is interesting as it has a closed space from the outer door, and then another door to enter the dining area. I could see some people having to try really hard to open the outer door and we could feel a rush of air at our table as they entered the inner door. But the place is clean and still has a hole in the wall feel. Menu is all broad and since it was my first visit, I asked the waiter for recommendations. He is a nice young man who was more than happy to answer questions. I went with his recommendation of curry and chose pork as the protein. Even on a relatively hot day, I was glad I went with his suggestions. Really wonderful taste and I imagine if I was from Burma this might qualify as simple down-home cooking. For me, a guy who grew up as a meat and potatoes fan, this hits the spot. The pork cuts are thick and tender, with nice fat edges for flavor and texture. Melt in your mouth kind of stuff. The curry was not spicy so safe for those with tender palates; but there is a healthy dose of chili oil and red peppers at the table to fix it up your own way. I like this method vs guessing numbers 1-5 on how spicy you want it to be....LOL. Food came out in about 8 mins or so; first mine, then a minute or two later my buddy's. This dish comes with jasmine rice, but you can also pay up $4 for different styles of rice; I went with the jasmine and it was just fine. Expanding on that thought, the one thing about this place is the higher price, which to me takes it a little bit out of the value zone. No doubt the curry is flavorful and might make you want to take a nap afterwards, but this dish goes for $18.99 which put the tab in the $25 range after a 20% tip. A little high for lunch in my opinion. This price for slow-cooked pork, potatoes, garlic, onion, turmeric, paprika, and fish sauce seems a little on the high side; but to be fair everybody's prices are getting higher. I felt it was worth the try and was rewarded for going with great food...the value just isn't there for me in the future.

First time having Burmese food and it was very delicious! Tea leaf salad is a popular Burmese dish others have ordered, and it was very tasty and kind of crunchy from the peanuts and seeds. The Inlay tea leaf salad was salty probably from the fish sauce but still good. It was also kind of expensive for a salad but I think it's worth it for the experience and taste. The mango chicken curry was also delicious and interesting bc I've never had sweet yet savory curry before. The service was great, and I didn't wait long for the food. There weren't a lot of people inside so there's a lot of available seats.

My favorite restaurant in dallas area! So so good literally everything I've tried has been amazing. Especially the inlay tea leaf salad & okra boiled egg curry! 10/10 love this place and recommend it to everyone.

Can I say "hole in the wall"?? My husband and I were super hesitant to even walk in! It was around 6pm on a Monday and they didn't have a single customer. The restaurant itself is fairly small but decorated very nicely so we decided to be adventurous and give it a shot. 1st time trying Burmese food and it kind of reminded me of thai food mixed with indian food. Although, as soon as I had a drink of their authentic Burmese tea and a taste of their coconut soup I was hooked! It was SO delicious and the flavors were outstanding! Unfortunately, there was a small cashew that somehow made its way into my soup which I had a reaction to, because of my nut allergy. There are many nut/cashew items on the menu and I am super hesitant to return since this happened. The waiter, Nolan, was super friendly though, so the service is great. It sounded like a family run business since he mentioned his mom makes the recipes. I would say give this place a try and support a local business!

    Burmese curry with lamb

First time eating Burmese food and it was a great experience. They have a pretty vast menu with lots of things that sound good but we ended up ordering the Inlay tea leaf salad, Burmese curry with lamb, and Oh No Kauswe (coconut chicken noodle soup). The tea leaf salad was very flavorful and had great textures with the cabbage, nuts, and split peas. It was a great palate cleanser with some of the more flavorful dishes like the curry which was delicious. The lamb was very tender and curry was loaded with flavor. The coconut noodle soup was also very heartwarming and creamy. Though first eating Burmese food, there were a lot of familiar flavors from Indian, Chinese, and Southeast Asian cuisine while still being unique. Can't wait to try more of the menu.

Highly recommend Inlay Burmese Kitchen! I've eaten here quite a few times already and have introduced friends to Burmese cuisine and they have all loved the food here as well! I have eaten quite a variety of dishes here and have not been disappointed by any of them so far. The Inlay tea leaf salad is always a must. This last time, we tried the paratha with coconut chicken curry - paratha was crispy and flaky, curry was delicious albeit a bit sweet but went well with the coconut milk. We also had the pork pumpkin stew which you could tell had been slow cooked for a long time. The flavors all melded together so well, the sauce was thick and rich, and the pork was so tender. Everything also goes well with their coconut rice!! And I always end my meal with their hot milk tea which reminds me so much of my beloved Hong Kong milk tea. Service is always good, and the restaurant is always clean and has traditional Burmese decor with wooden table mats to add to the ambiance. Love this place!

This little family owned restaurant has some of the best food I've tried in a while. I don't know if it's Burmese food in general that's this good or if it's just this restaurant. Everything I tasted had so many yummy and balanced flavors without being overly seasoned or salty. I've tried the garlic rice which is the best I've ever tasted. They have a lamb curry that's dark brown in color. Is different than other currys I've tasted before; more mildly savory compared to Indian or Thai curry. My favorite dish was the calamari! It's a little spicy because of the jalapeños but also well seasoned. The service was friendly and very fast, making for a fast and enjoyable dining experience, so it's a good stop for dinner or for a quick lunch. I'm glad to see that there are still some mom and pop gems around in Lewisville.

Just tried this spot for the first time and I loved it. We ordered the chilli lamb with coconut rice. Delicious and very flavorful. They did not skimp on the lamb. It was so tender and seasoned so well. My boyfriend got the pumpkin chicken stew to try something very new and we surprisingly loved it too. And the with the Burmese indian rice with was so herby and flavorful with so much depth. The service was wonderful. Food came out fast and hot. We are definitely coming back.

We came here for my husband's birthday. We ordered 5 dishes. All of them tasted great. My personal favorite is the beef curry and tea salad.

Holy smokes! This place is incredible! I had the spicy mango salad and chili chicken, with rice and this fantastic doughy pastry, palatha, that absolutely crushes naan bread in a 1-v-1 battle. (Think of a mix between a buttery croissant and the best tortilla you've ever eaten) 10/10 will be eating here again! If they ever offered a Burmese dessert, I'd give this place an 11/10

We noticed on the Yelp! map that there was a Burmese restaurant that we have never tried. We love Burmese food and thought, why not? What a gem of a place this was! From the moment we walked in to this immaculately clean restaurant, we had a feeling we had made a good choice. I ordered the Kyay Oh stew with pork meatballs and offal because I wanted something really authentic. My husband ordered beef flat noodles with added veggie stir fry. I have to say, my soup was so clean and fresh tasting. I took a gamble because not everyone can prepare the offal without an off flavor or scent. The flavor of this soup is something I will never forget and I loved the greens and quail eggs as well. My husband's noodle dish had an incredible flavor without being too heavily dressed or seasoned. Our waiter was very helpful in answering our questions. He was very friendly. I would love to return to this restaurant and try some more of the authentic Burmese items.

While the bahn mi isn't exactly traditional, it is still very good -- I'd highly suggest getting it with the pate. The sampler appetizer has a little bit of everything and is great for sharing. Pineapple fried rice was delicious. Pad Thai also great! If you're a spicy eater like me, just go for very spicy. They have 4 spice levels (mild, medium, spicy, very spicy) and this is a reminder to myself to get very spicy next time. Thanks for the delicious meals!

A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
