We arrived on July 3rd about 9:15 am. We were promptly seated in a booth. The place was pretty empty, with only 3-4 booths occupied. It appeared to be a sports bar and restaurant from how it was decorated and the TV sets playing Tennis. Our server seated us, quickly took our drink order and got our breakfast menus. I ordered the Two Egg breakfast (eggs over easy, Sourdough toast) and my wife got the Big Breakfast, (eggs medium) which she wanted for the pancakes. The meals took a while even though the place wasn't busy. We soon found out the eggs had been switched. Her's were easy over and mine were medium. So we switched the eggs. My easy over eggs were not fully cooked before they were flipped. My wife's medium eggs were cooked perfectly. However neither egg dish was salted or peppered while being cooked. The pancakes were perfect however. Light, fluffy, and delicious!' She shares one with me and I agreed, delicious, light and fluffy. Her hash browns were not cooked except on the surface. Mine were cooked nicely. However again the hash browns were not salted or peppered during cooking as far as I could tell. All and all the food was good for a breakfast place and the serving sizes were adequate for what we ordered. read more

We e been going to Dinghy's for decades. The food was always solid and service was good. The place was always packed regardless of what time of year we were there. Unfortunately it's under new ownership now and they've ruined the place. The lighting is now harsh, the food quality just isn't there anymore and the service is rushed. Oh, and the place was empty on a Saturday night! We will no longer be patronizing Dinghy's. There are too many other places that are better. read more

Food was mostly tasty, soup came after the entree and was cold. Seemed odd they took the soup someone ate out of back to the kitchen and microwaved it. Soup was supposed to substitute the bake potatoes they were out of, didn't get fries or bale potato and still charged us for the soup. Overall service was lacking. read more

American fare. We ordered the famous onion bloom app- a lot of breading on the onion and not enough sauce for the size of the onion. We ordered burger with bbq and bacon- was served med-rare as ordered- prob best item at the table Also ordered 2 fish 'n chips- out of cod; should have stopped there, but got lake perch Instead. SO MUCH breading and small - almost non existent filets. Dry and overcooked, as well as just too much crunchy breading. I'm used to airy fluffy light crispy breading and this was dense- like what would be used for a large price of chicken. Overpowered the delicate (small) filets. Bomba fries were good and hot; would get again. Coleslaw and tartar sauce was super yummy. Service was lacking; very odd- not personable or attentive. Not the best or worst I've ever had. read more

Tucked in the adorable beach town of Frankfort this hole in the wall is dark, loud, and cozy all at once. The service was okay, not the best we've had, but it could have been a personality issue. The house salad with steak added on was crisp and refreshing, but TINY. Smaller than any house salad I've had in a long time. The clam chowder was worth the drive, however. My daughter ordered a kids meal and said it was "super good." Definitely worth a try when you're in town! read more

Dinghy's is an old school, no frills kind of place that looks like it's been around before the term Bar and Grill was even a thing but that's exactly what it is. Lot's of fishing decor throughout the place with record setting fish taxidermy and pictures. There was also the coolest Budweiser lamp I have ever seen. It had a Clydesdale with stagecoach kind of diorama inside of a bubble. I want it in my man cave! Any way I got a fajita salad which was fine. Just the usual fajita ingredients on top of lettuce. The waitress forgot the orange vinaigrette that I asked for and it took me a few minutes to track someone down to get some. I washed this all down with a Horny Monk-a double Belgian from Petoskey Brewing that was great. Overall the place is fine. Max gave us great recommendations, served me a fabulous negroni and he had a welcoming vibe not only to us but to every customer he greeted that came in the restaurant. I have been a loyal customer of the Dinghy Bar for nearly 20 years. It was always the friendly place to get a good meal at a fair price. Since the new owners have taken over it's been very disappointing, poor meal preparation and small portions! Last night was our third try and it was awful. Cold broccoli, onion rings and under cooked potatoes. The "sandwich of your dreams " was anything else but dreamy! Our waiter (Matt) was apologetic and tried to make things better but the kitchen kept letting him down. Seems like there are no "adults " managing the business! People on vacation will come in for the novelty of the atmosphere but are leaving disappointed. You better get this fixed soon Ed!! read more

If Dinghy's Restaurant & Bar does one thing they will get you tipsy. I visited Dinghy's with my family during our family vacation. During my visit it was really busy but we were able to get seated rather quickly. Our waiter was fairly new, I believe it was his third day, but he was very friendly and got our food/drinks quickly. Anytime I visit a place that has BBQ is I like to try it out so I shared the BBQ Platter with my husband. The platter included a half-rack ribs, half-chicken, and pulled pork. The entree came with fries, we choose the bomba fries, and a side of mac-n-cheese. I was surprised but the mac-n-cheese was tasty. I didn't have high expectation for it but it was just enough cheese. I liked the half-rack ribs the most from the platter. The half-chicken was dry but most places don't make good grilled chicken. The pork was also dry and not that tasty. I enjoyed the fries that had the cajun spices on them but the cajun seasoning wasn't evenly distributed on the fries. Only the ones on the top layer had the seasoning. This could've been easily solved by mixing the fries together to evenly distribute the seasoning. Dinghy's does make a strong drink. I visited twice during my visit to Frankfort and one visit was just for the drinks. The bartender has a heavy pour but the drinks were still tasty enough that the alcohol didn't overpower the drink too much. read more

I visit Michigan once a year and dinghy's is always a must for me until this year. Apparently they have a new owner and the quality of food and service has suffered. I ordered the black and bleu burger, my sister ordered the fish and chips and our friend ordered soup and salad. My burger bun was soggy and barely warm. The fish and chips were overly breaded and the soup was literally room temperature. When my friend asked for the soup to be heated up the waitress acted as if we had asked her to cut off her arm. The waitress took the soup back to presumably be heated...several minutes later she brought it back and there was little improvement. Personally I will not dine there again read more

I went a little crazy ordering, thinking I'd have leftovers. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Sausage ($9). Then a half order of Honey Chipotle Wings ($8). Finally a half order of Ribs ($20). I started with the wings. They were excellent. Very tender and sweet and spicy. Not burning spicy, just smack you spicy. They were juicy and came right off the bone! The bacon wrapped sausage is a spicy andouille. Sadly it's just six small bites. That being said it is very good. Lol after the wings the slice in andouille was mild! The Ribs were spectacular. Fall off the bone tender and between the spices and bbq sauce on it it has amazing taste profile! It also came with coleslaw and bomba fries. The coleslaw was amazing, soooo good! The fries were good, but nothing special. I had no left overs. The service was excellent. Very friendly. They check on you and treat you like a normal. Overall an easy 6 star review. I mean 5, lol. The salad that I was served had more wilted and brown lettuce than good and when I brought it to my servers attention he seemed annoyed. Additionally, the salad was about the size of a side salad and the base price is 6.99 and to add the chicken was another 5.99. My salad was replaced, but it was not worth the hassle and the price. The side salad at longhorns was twice the size of this full priced salad. Nice stop for a cold beer and a sandwich or BBQ along the very busy Main street in downtown Frankfort. We were lucky to find seats at the bar since there was a waiting line for tables. The bartender was a smart ass with a chip on her shoulder but the atmosphere and food makes this review 4 stars which could have been 5 without the attitude. The 'Sandwich of your dreams' was excellent and worthy of the boastful name. I would come back to this area just for it alone. It was served on a french roll stuffed with turkey, onions, mushrooms topped with provolone, lettuce, banana peppers and mayo. Damn it was good! Downside was they were cheap with the fries. Check the pic. Should have asked for more but I didn't want to get my head chewed off by the afore mentioned bartender. The pulled pork sandwich was very good and my Trifecta sandwich stuffed with pulled pork, tri-tip, and chicken topped with provolone and coleslaw was excellent. The only reason they received one star is for the sauces. Basically everything else was tasteless. I will give props to the blooming onion as it wasn't greasy but it was the sauce that made it. The fries have no salt, even the bomba fries only had a small one shake of seasoning. The burger and pulled pork were dry and tasteless. How they were able to get pulled pork to taste like literally nothing I'll never know. The chicken was again tasteless except for one small thigh that you could taste the smoke and char. But for a big hunk of chicken it was very disappointing. We paid $80 for 4 of us (one only had fries) and were left disappointed with food left on the plate as it wasn't worth it to eat.
