Country ambiance inside with lots of outdoor seating, large bar and a few large tables inside for large parties. Pretty tight space but they make the most of it. Waitress was friendly and seemed seasoned in her serving career and with large parties. Food took a while but it was a busy Friday night and we enjoyed conversing with our table. Food was pretty good, all your typical bar food. Portion sizes were generous and everyone left happy. Would definitely recommend the sweet potato fries and the club sandwich. read more

Country ambiance inside. Servers were very friendly. This was one of restaurant near a cottage we stayed for weekend trip to lake. Price isn't inexpensive and portion size was kind of small for these kind of restaurants. I had coconut shrimp and my daughter had pulled pork with Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was more like a white sauce. Coconut shrimp was ok , tasted like frozen ones from store. This is tourist area and everything is over priced so I guess I shouldn't expect too much. read more

Being a vegan I hardly found anything at this place hence 1 star....they need to keep a few options for vegans. Service was horrible we were at the bar still had to wait for half an hour or actually more to get our food. Drink was extra sweet and food was not good either. I don't recommend this place who don't eat meat or dairy, they have this place ONLY for meat eaters. read more

Clean, comfortable, good food. French dip sandwich is my husbands go to, the au jus is the best we've had in a long time. The breaded cauliflower has the best breading on it. Pizzas are great, drinks are cold, BLT is great. It's a must stop when we are up north. read more

Made a special Mother's Day trip to Grille 44. The Mother's Day special they ran out so that wasn't a good start. Three of us ordered food was mediocre at best, the broasted chicken should be advertised and sold as chicken jerky, horrible. Table next to us sent back a burnt pizza and a steak that was to be cooked medium rare but was obviously well done. Two star is for an attentive male server. I have been here before was never impressed and this last experience confirms I and my family will not be back. read more

Stopped in after several hours of hiking the Manistee River Trail. Nice place with friendly staff. On Sunday mornings into late afternoon they have a make your own bloody Mary bar. This was a treat! I thought they were a bit light on the vodka, but the doctoring choices on the bar were amazing! We had tater tot kegs - giant tater tots stuffed with bacon and cheese! I'm pretty sure bacon and cheese makes anything good, and the tater tots were amazing. We ordered 16 wings and were able to get two different flavors. We chose the garlic Parmesan and the honey garlic. I thought the wings were a little pricey, but they were large and very juicy. The wings were had were generously breaded...almost like fried chicken. I loved the flavor of the honey garlic...they were a bit wetter than the garlic Parmesan...we thought the garlic Parmesan needed more sauce. We could have gotten by with 8 wings and had plenty of leftovers for later in the evening. There an outdoor seating area - a tent out by their parking lot with some tables under it. Best part about this place are the restrooms. Super nice. Chicken wings and broasted chicken are decent eats. A1 crispness. Everything else... burger to fries to mash potatoes, would not recommend. May skip this spot next time coming through. read more

We have stopped in here many times when traveling through the area. This time We ordered the wings, Michigan cherry pizza, pepperoni pizza. The beverages we ordered were all on point and the large selection of on tap beers offered some great choices. The on tap beer came out at the perfect temperature. The last time we have ordered burgers, including the equator burger, the cod and whitefish dip all were very good. The service is always friendly as well. We tried ordering take out but couldn't get through on the phone lines. So we went in and seems they didn't have enough staff to help people. Food is OK but the a broasted chicken is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Get it and don't share it!! We will be dreaming of it until we can get back up to the area again!! Heading down 31, hungry, this place popped up on the radar. Was in the mood for a burger. This was a cozy little place/bar but this Sunday afternoon more of a restaurant. Lots of TV's and they do the Sunday morning Bloody Mary bar. Our waitress elaborated some great specials. We had our hearts set on burgers, my hubby orders the cowboy with sweet potatoes fries and I got the Duane(like a Big Mac, one patty though, you could add another). Very good, both burgers, we have no complaints. My husband isn't a fry person and he loved how well cooked his sweet potato fries were! He almost ate them all and that's saying a lot! We bought a piece of creme de mint cake for the road after the waitress said that all their desserts were made in house, it was shareable size and delicious! Thanks! Nothing really to complain about. We had a party of 11. It was a Tuesday at about 6pm. We were seated right away. We had 5 kids. The menu had something for everyone. Stopped here with my Wife and kids after a day in Manistee. The food is outstanding, in a very bar-food kind of home cooked way and that is great combination! I had the lake perch pan fried, and my son had the lake perch crusted in parm cheese and baked, both were delicious! The sides of smashed potatoes were rich and fluffy. Now for the best part.....THE WINGS! The wings are HUGE!! We ordered the spicy wings, and they were crispy on the outside and very meaty, we loved them! Casual restaurant with standard bar food. However, the food we had wasn't standard in taste. Great nachos and I loved my grilled chicken salad! They serve the salad with a cherry vinaigrette that was nothing less than wonderful. This was the first I'd had a cherry vinaigrette and I will definitely seek it out again!!! Stopped in with two hungry kids after a beach day and got great recommendations from our server Margaret. The artichoke dip was great! The 44 burger was delicious. went for lunch with my wife and there was only one waitress for all 6 tables and bar. not that, that mattered however to get refills was nearly impossible. she seen my wife had her card out and said she could take it up. mind you NO bill was even put in the table but my wife gave it to her. about 5 min pass and she apologized that she lost our card. hardley no remorse at all. had to call the bank and cancel the card and left. will never return. what a horrible first time expierence and no compensation for our card at all. good luck! read more

I really want to like this place. The menu always looks so delicious to me. However, each time I try again and am equally disappointed. We started out last visit with an appetizer of potato skins. They were good but nothing to write home about. The portion was just right for 2 people though and came out to the table quickly. My steak was undercooked and cold. I got mushrooms and onions added for extra charge. No problem except the mushrooms weren't sautéed with the onions-my mistake though. I just assumed they would be. The other person I was with had a burger. They said it was good but had better at other restaurants in the area. The server was decent. I think she was having a bad day as she seemed to have nothing go her way. Which I know can happen. The other servers worked well with one another. The seating since COVID-19 has signs on tables to know where to sit. read more

We walked the waitress pulled the table away from a 4 some that was already seated, that had an extra table on the end, with out saying a word to them! They were busy and their computers were down so it was a stressful evening for them. But... we are paying customers!! I asked for water twice, never came, she was too busy being upset with her boss, coming to fix the computer! The salad o got was mediocre at best, wet soggy lettuce some mozzarella balls, a minute amount of tomatoes and onion, with some sliced up deli ham and some shredded cheese. That was their "signature salad" the 44 salad. We were very dissatisfied! read more

Clean beer lines and taps, nice craft beer lineup, good food, great employees. I've quietly watched and listened for the last year, amazing what you see and hear, facts on which to base such a poor review. The owners are from here, we are not, and oh how they gossip, judge, and treat disabled people poorly. Recently we visited on a busy weekend night and watched as the owners literally pointed people out and gossiped among themselves, a visibly disabled man who walks with a cane deserves better. One of the owners served us and rudely slopped our food out to us, even burned my wife with the pizza pan. We got the message, I've easily spent $2000 over the past year, I won't spend another dime. Grille 44 was opened in May of 2013 by owner Kevin Buckner, prior to opening Grille 44 i was the part owner and day to day manager of Saddle up Grocery also located in Bear Lake Mi. (i still am active in that that business) I saw a need for a family friendly restaurant in our area and have had some prior restaurant experience and food service training in high school, I was in the graduating class of 1984 at Spring Lake High School in Ottawa county Mi.

There…read morewas one aspect that entire group felt clear on: the high noise level made the experience uncomfortable. There were six of us in our group at a table, and you could only hear the person directly next to you. Our group had a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant is small, and the tables are very close together and felt packed in. They do have a small roped off 'patio' area on the side walk with a couple of tables. I thought the service was fine, others in the group felt it was poor (probably because no one could hear her and we had to repeat ourselves). The server did recommend that we share several dishes as a table as they are small plates. We ordered the bread and the three vegetable appetizers to start. Here is where it is hard to review: all of the appetizers were fantastic, interesting and fresh preparations. From the light courses section, we had the bougie corn dog and the duck pasta. I'm not a fan of corn dogs, I thought it was fine, but pretentious and not worth ordering, others liked it. I did like the duck pasta. The mushroom tart was boring, dry, and forgettable (side note that if you are in Detroit, Le Supreme's is absolutely fantastic, so this can be memorable). The other stand out was the walleye main, their use of curry made it an interesting, as well as delicious, dish. We all thought the halibut was awful, it arrived with a fishy smell, but was then somehow flavorless. If we were not all splitting it, it would be a send back dish. Overall, the dishes ranged from flavorful and interesting, to terrible. No member of our group felt they would return, and I would recommend against it due to the noise level, it really was that bad. Every sound echoed off of every hard surface. As a result, it just was not an enjoyable experience.

I called for reservations the day before and found that only very early or very late was available. We also were given an option of seating in the restaurant or on the porch. We chose the porch and early reservation. We were seated at a nice table with a view of Portage Lake. We started with wine, (even though we bought copious amounts of wine on our trip, the wine list couldn't be ignored) my wife enjoying a glass of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc and me a glass of cab. It was recommended we try their Almond Battered Shrimp. This appetizer was served with a cherry mustard sauce that was wonderful. The menu said jumbo shrimp and yes, they were jumbo with that nice "steak like" texture and flavor. For dinner my wife ordered the Whitefish special (Whitefish is on the regular menu but the special preparation was a bit different). This presentation had wilted spinach, onions with a light Parmesan crust. She let me try some and we both agreed this was the best whitefish either of have ever had. I ordered the "Everything Tuna". This was yellowfin tuna with light and dark sesame seeds, poppy seeds. onion, garlic and salt. I ordered it extremely rare (so rare a good vet could resuscitate it) with wasabi. This was a taste sensation. Dinners included broccoli and an excellent salad. The dressing was so good we bought a bottle on the way out. A "loaf" containing four rolls was also included. Our server was Cyrillia and her service was as outstanding as it gets. Often when I'm enjoying service of this calibre, I look around and see if we just got lucky or is everyone getting great service. It seemed that the service standard at The Glenwood is high. On the drive back to our hotel, we tried to come up with restaurants we've enjoyed as much. The list is slim with The Glenwood at or near the top.
