    Enchilada Gigante
    Melissa B.

This place has a really good atmosphere and their patio is super cute. The server we had was also super nice! I like how many drink options they have and I went for the frozen strawberry margarita which was really delicious. I ended up getting 2 of these throughout the course of my meal. My friend also really liked her prickly pear margarita. For my meal I got the enchilada gigante and when the plate came out it looked right but after my first bite I realized it wasn't what I ordered. Inside was the ingredients of the Cubano chimichanga but it was still dressed as the enchilada. I can confidently say that pickles and enchilada sauce are not a good combination lol. I sent my order back which is the first time I've ever had to do that in my life and I was kinda embarrassed about it. The waitress was super apologetic. When I got the right meal back, it had 2 portions of rice and no lettuce and sour cream toppings which was not a big deal but just interesting that it got screwed up twice. The food was average. It was kind of bland. I do think the chips and salsa were tasty though! When the waitress brought our bills, only 1 of my drinks and my meal was on it. I thought she was comping me a drink for messing up the order but after handing over my card to pay she came back and realized she gave my actual bill to a different table. Overall just kind of a mess and unorganized.

I will start by saying that the food was very good. I would come back because I enjoyed it very much. I will also say this is NOT Mexican food. It is inspired by Mexican food and someone that knows how to create flavor profiles has created some seriously good derivatives of Mexican food. The cocktails were super tasty! Someone back their is a master mixologist!! The service was excellent. Our server was polite, attentive, and prompt. The restaurant is super clean, beautiful, and well maintained. There were two performers; Kabota Dragon and Bear. They did a good job singing for us. Again, I will return even though it is t my type of Mexican food. It is definitely some seriously good Mexican inspired food. Great job to all. Make sure you try this place!

Busy bartender was fun to watch and set a great tone for the bar area

Good service, good food, good vibe! We stopped in for a brief meal before the Shakespeare. Advice number one--this is a great place to linger! We sat at a table near the bar, and it was such a cheerful, fun vibe. They have a nice looking outdoor patio with tables as well as indoors, plus a row of chairs facing Betsie Bay. The decor is bright and colorful with lots to admire. You'll want to soak it all in! Our server was very accommodating, helping us get our food and check promptly as well as regular water refills. I had the Tinga, two chicken tacos (not at all spicy) with interesting toppings/sauces to make it more special. The refried beans were atypical and just delicious. My companion loved their carnitas tacos, which were flavored differently than were used to but were super tasty.

Picture perfect place for a lazy Sunday afternoon drink rooftop. Passionfruit margarita was a great choice. Soooo good! They only serve chips, salsa and quac on the roof, but what goes better than margaritas than those three amigos?! Salsa had a hint of smokey....Chipotle (?). Whatever - I have a new favorite salsa! Quacamole was slightly sweet and ingredients included corn - a first for me, but I liked it. Views of Betsie Lake and the marina across the street were beautiful. Happy to have stumbled upon this cool spot as we took the scenic drive south from Sleeping Bear Dunes.

The drinks were the highlight of our visit, and the food has mixed opinions at our table. I would highly recommend the a Mango Margarita because it tasted so fresh and refreshing! I also enjoyed the Sangria Swirl for a nice berry twist on their margarita mix. And the Mexican lollipop was delicious and the flavors mixed so well that the taste of alcohol was very minor. The coconut margarita was good but pretty plain compared to the other drinks as expected. The Queso Dip was really unique. I probably wouldn't order it again as it's very different from the runny white queso we love so much. This one was thicker and tasted like it has Brie cheese in it, similar texture too where it kinda sticks together and is not runny The Steak Fajitas were tasty and came with so much! The steak seemed a little tough but had good flavor. The Roadhouse Quesadilla was okay. Chicken seemed okay but there was so much cheese that it didn't hold together well, maybe it was cut into too many pieces though. The pineapple salsa on the side was so good though! I really loved the atmosphere here, the seating is mixed between indoor and outdoor, half of the outdoor seating is grad a drink while you wait, but again, everyone is so nice that you barely notice the wait! A little caution with sitting outside is that bugs/flies do really wanna taste your food too which can be annoying but there's nothing you can really do about it. Our wait was estimated to be 1 hour 15 minutes, but we were seating in around 45-50 minutes. I was surprised with how busy it was on a Tuesday night, but it is the week of 4th of July!

Finally...a good restaurant on River Street! We're in Manistee about a dozen times a year and I'm…read moreso burnt out on not having good places to eat. If you're looking for good Mexican, skip 'Taco Bout It' (which is very generic Americanized Mexican fare) and go here instead! This place just opened in the old River Street Station location and it's now my favorite place around town. Authentic Mexican food and drink in a very cool "Day of the Dead" style atmosphere. Awesome custom murals and decorations inside. It was totally empty when we walked in at 3pm on a Wednesday (to be expected) so we got 1 on 1 service at the bar. Food was super fresh and made to order. The freshly fried taquitos with super fresh veggies were awesome, and the tequila drinks were solid. I'll go here again the first chance I get. I feel like some restaurants in Manistee think they're fancy but are just overpriced and the food isn't very good (lookin' at you Golden Stag and Blue Fish). Then you have second tier food at Taco Bout It, Fricanos and North Channel. The food at these places almost seem like the quality of "theme park food" (generic and not very fresh). This place, IMO, is a big step forward. Fresh and authentic, probably family-owned (that was the vibe I got), with a great atmosphere (they were jammin' some modern Mexican music videos on the tv over the bar, which is WAY better than places that play ESPN or some political news channel). I predict that, if they can last until summer and have a good business-minded owner, they'll be jam packed all summer long. Or at least I hope so because I want it to be here, and be thriving, each time we visit Manistee!

I love that I can choose the Thai chili tofu as my protein, and it's actually good tofu -- firm, crispy, and flavorful instead of the usual mushy version you find elsewhere. The customization is another huge plus. You can load your tacos with far more than the standard lettuce and tomato, choosing from a variety of slaws, salsas, sauces, and toppings. My personal favorite combination is the Dirty Sauce (definitely spicy, so be warned!) with lettuce, poblanos, onions, and the corn mix. The tacos are generously sized, so 2-3 will leave you completely satisfied, and the pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. This is also a perfect place for larger groups or families. We have friends who love bringing their kids because everyone can fill out their own order form and customize exactly what they want. I have to recommend the salsa roja and chips as an app. It's easily one of my favorite salsas. It has the perfect consistency with just the right balance of spice and sweetness. We love coming here and highly recommend giving it a try. You won't be disappointed!
