When we were camping up at the Platte River National Park campground, we were looking for a Mexican restaurant that would allow pets on their patio. We originally were told when we called the restaurant that they don't allow pets at all, but then two of our fellow campers stopped there and had a beer and we're asking about pets on the patio and they said sure you can sit at the front of the patio where the Adirondack chairs and fire pits were. So off we headed to Dos Arboles. We had six in our group plus the two dogs and we had gotten there at happy hour so we were able to partake in their excellent margaritas and also some appetizers to begin with when we ordered dinner. The food was absolutely delicious nachos fajitas, tacos, fish, taco, shrimp, tacos everything you can imagine a Mexican restaurant would have and the food was top notch. I was very very pleased. The dogs were well attended. They brought them a bowl of water. The waiters and waitresses came out to visit and then finally the owner came out and sat with us for a while, which is quite unusual as we're not local. It was a beautiful location right across from the marina's. Frankfurt, by the way is a lovely town if I was going to pick a place to retire at that would be our top pick. Usually we get take out but we decided to dine in and it was wonderful. We got the best margaritas, I got the blended mango and my boyfriend got the strawberry one. Then 1/2 price nachos were massive and so good! And we also got the appetizer queso with salsa that was really good as well! 5 stars all around! This resturant has exactally what you would expect from Frankfort - We sat outside and it was very pleasant. They have an upstairs patio that seems to be permanently closed. When you walk in you get a list of "Rules" (Be Patient, Good Food Takes Time, Etc) They were right. After 15 min we were able to place our drink order and ordered Chips and Guacamole. Chips were super thin couldn't handle the bland, unseasoned Guacamole. Tacos next. Comical. I had the El Pastor and something else unmemorable. 3" tortillas with about a tablespoon of meat each. Average. Waitress was unpersonal and Slow. If you're part of the Rich Lake People and you want some nice drinks with tiny tacos this is right up your alley. If your some poor Father with a hungry family this is probably not your kind of place. Forgettable. read more

This place has a really good atmosphere and their patio is super cute. The server we had was also super nice! I like how many drink options they have and I went for the frozen strawberry margarita which was really delicious. I ended up getting 2 of these throughout the course of my meal. My friend also really liked her prickly pear margarita. For my meal I got the enchilada gigante and when the plate came out it looked right but after my first bite I realized it wasn't what I ordered. Inside was the ingredients of the Cubano chimichanga but it was still dressed as the enchilada. I can confidently say that pickles and enchilada sauce are not a good combination lol. I sent my order back which is the first time I've ever had to do that in my life and I was kinda embarrassed about it. The waitress was super apologetic. When I got the right meal back, it had 2 portions of rice and no lettuce and sour cream toppings which was not a big deal but just interesting that it got screwed up twice. The food was average. It was kind of bland. I do think the chips and salsa were tasty though! When the waitress brought our bills, only 1 of my drinks and my meal was on it. I thought she was comping me a drink for messing up the order but after handing over my card to pay she came back and realized she gave my actual bill to a different table. Horrible experience/ Terrible attitude My girlfriends and I went here on 9-23 to have a couple of drinks before going out to celebrate my birthday. We sat in the bar and the bartender came over and questioned "who gave us permission to sit there?" He actually seemed upset that we were sitting there. It went downhill from there. Since they do not have a printed price list for their tequila it was very difficult to select what kind to have. The bartender got very rude and dismissive with us. He questioned our choices and even went so far as to tell us they did not have Cuervo Gold or Silver. He clearly did not want to be there and it showed. One of my friends made the comment that "maybe I could get a free drink for my birthday." To which the bartender sniped "well, that's never going to happen." We are all locals and will never go back to this restaurant and will tell all our friends of our crappy experience at Dos Arboles. read more

Just saying if you know what real Mexican food tastes like then you won't get it here. The chips were bad and from a bag and guac watery. The food portions were small and kinda expensive. The waiter was nice and efficient but they rounded off our bill. We paid in cash and they didn't give me change back. The waiter said they just round it off. Guessing most pay with credit. Typically if you don't see anyone of Spanish ancestry you probably won't get authentic Mexican food and this rings true! read more

My husband and I ate at Dos Arboles 2 years ago and the food and service was excellent. We had dinner there this year and were disappointed from our bar experience to dinner. The tacos were small, soggy and filling was minimal. The red wine from the bar was undrinkable. I returned it but was charged anyway. Our first time eating in Frankfort and we saw Dos Arboles on our drive in. Great location and some fun outdoor seating. We really enjoyed their Margaritas with their homemade Margarita mix. Very tasty and really hit the spot. The food was also very good. Between four of us we had 5 different types of tacos and all of them were delicious. I also had rice and beans which came with my dinner. I don't care for refried beans so I didn't plan to eat them, however to my surprise they were not refried beans, but rather black beans that were somewhat creamy. Something you might have in a dish with black beans and rice. However you describe them they were really good. Overall we very much enjoyed our meals at Dos Arboles. read more

I will start by saying that the food was very good. I would come back because I enjoyed it very much. I will also say this is NOT Mexican food. It is inspired by Mexican food and someone that knows how to create flavor profiles has created some seriously good derivatives of Mexican food. The cocktails were super tasty! Someone back their is a master mixologist!! The service was excellent. Our server was polite, attentive, and prompt. The restaurant is super clean, beautiful, and well maintained. There were two performers; Kabota Dragon and Bear. They did a good job singing for us. Again, I will return even though it is t my type of Mexican food. Good service, good food, good vibe! We stopped in for a brief meal before the Shakespeare. Advice number one--this is a great place to linger! We sat at a table near the bar, and it was such a cheerful, fun vibe. They have a nice looking outdoor patio with tables as well as indoors, plus a row of chairs facing Betsie Bay. The decor is bright and colorful with lots to admire. You'll want to soak it all in! Our server was very accommodating, helping us get our food and check promptly as well as regular water refills. I had the Tinga, two chicken tacos (not at all spicy) with interesting toppings/sauces to make it more special. The refried beans were atypical and just delicious. Picture perfect place for a lazy Sunday afternoon drink rooftop. Passionfruit margarita was a great choice. Soooo good! They only serve chips, salsa and quac on the roof, but what goes better than margaritas than those three amigos?! Salsa had a hint of smokey....Chipotle (?). Whatever - I have a new favorite salsa! Quacamole was slightly sweet and ingredients included corn - a first for me, but I liked it. Views of Betsie Lake and the marina across the street were beautiful. Ordered a beer-Rita w/Dos Equis, salsa and queso, and three types of taco: Carnitas, Carne asada and Camaron (shrimp)... Chips are not restaurant-made... round- came from a bag- lots of broken crumbs as well (major bummer): both salsas were flavorful but not too spicy. Queso was okay. It got better when we added the red salsa. This appetizer (chips and salsa at least) usually comes free at MOST Mexican restaurants in TX... so, price was high in our opinion. At least use Michigan-made Fiesta brand chips if they have to be from a bag! Took a second ask to get our bar drink... Finally cancelled the drink order as we were 90% done with our meal.m and still no drink. :( Tacos were pretty good. Carnitas we're best. Service was fine. Waitress was friendly. Decided to go here because it was new and wanted to try out the only Mexican restaurant (that we know of) in the area. Food was okay, but overpriced for what it was. Seemed like a Mexican place that focused more on looks than food- tacos were pretty but we didn't love them and the chips are store bought. A side order of rice or beans is $8 each and chips with salsa/queso is $12. I know it's a small beach town, but still seems kind of ridiculous. We added ourselves to the Yelp waitlist ahead of time with an estimated 40 min wait. We ended up waiting about two hours to be seated, so as other reviews said, expect a longer wait than you're told. We wanted to try it because it was new and the outside patio/upstairs seemed nice but don't think we'd come again. read more

My family and I were really looking forward to our first meal here. We were a party of 9 and were told they couldn't seat a party that size. We asked if they could move a couple of tables together and were told no. We did notice several larger tables and didn't understand why we couldn't be seated. In addition I asked if the rice served with the tacos was the arroz verde listed as a side and were told it was. What came with our tacos was not arroz verde and was very ordinary. It reminded me of the Goya Mexican rice from the box. Portions were smaller than I hoped based on the price. Finally, the host apologized to us when we were seated at two separate tables as he worried he was rude at first. That was a nice gesture. He said we would receive chips and queso on the house. Disappointing. My water was given to me with at least 1 bug in it and another unknown floating object, but we were sitting outside, so maybe it flew in on the way to our table. The staff dispersing the beverages still didn't even check before placing it in front of me and it was noticeable. The $12 stale chips, mediocre salsa, and queso is not recommended and the tacos were the most disappointing of all! THEY ARE NOT REGULAR SIZE TACOS, but have a regular size taco price tag. I feel like they should call them mini tacos because it's so misleading. I ordered the carne asada tacos and it was more of a minced mystery meat, definitely not the typical grilled and sliced beef I've experienced at actual Mexican restaurants. We had high hopes, a good taco sounded amazing and this place was a quick walk from our rental house. The restaurant itself is very aesthetically pleasing and the food presentation is pretty. Our server started out friendly, upsold us to the chips & queso for $12. Yep, $12 for tasteless chips (whole wheat, stale?), 2 small condiment cups of salsa with a small bowl of queso. It was meh. We did receive a refill of chips. If a Mexican restaurant can't get chips & salsa right then it's not a good sign. And it wasn't. "Street" tacos are 4.75 each and they recommend you get 3-5 of them per person for a meal because they are each about 2 bites. I'm not exaggerating. We tried 4 different ones and they were all meh. Server disappeared after she took our order. Never refilled our waters or removed our dirty dishes. She literally dropped the check on our table without a word and walked away. No "thanks", or "I will take this up when you're ready". Nothing. The restaurant was not full, yet people were waiting quite a while for tables. It took a while for our food to come out. I think they must be short-staffed so they were trying not to overwhelm the kitchen. We paid $50 for 3 people for a really disappointing meal and we all ate again when we got home. We won't be back. (We also had Mexican food at the nearby Roadhouse Mexican Bar & Grill in Benzonia this trip and it was a much better Mexican food experience, I would head there and skip Dos Arboles.) read more
