This restaurant was bad, just not good. The parking lot was full, so we thought that it had to be pretty dang good, but that was not the case. You walk in and there is a store so it's just like career barrel. You set yourself. After about 3 minutes we got our menus and about 10 minutes after receiving the menus we ordered. Then we were just sitting and waiting, staring at some really weird and creepy paintings for 40 MINUTES. When we got our food it was bland. The steak was dry and the corn and green beans were canned. Overall the place was good enough for a low standard restaurant, but would recommend cracker barrel over the dinner bell any day. I don't know where to begin. The dinner bell was an average small town establishment filled with local people. They were very crowded and it took a long time to get food. All the condiments were individually packaged and the food was nothing special. If you can use a can opener you could probably have just as good food at home. I was looking forward to the homage cornbread, but it was bland and chewy. You might save a couple dollars by not going to cracker barrel, but I didn't see anything homemade about it. read more

This is our go to stop for dinner, after leaving Norris Lake and heading home to Ohio. We've always had good service, and have never been disappointed in our choice of meals. They serve breakfast in the evening, which makes the kiddo happy. This particular time, we had fried chicken and some fried fish and shrimp. Bonus for me that they make their own ranch dressing! If you're going here, expecting fine dining, then you'll be disappointed. If you're going here for a simple meal, you should be just fine. A great charming restaurant, we stopped in on our way home looking for something different. What we found was a great home cooked meal I had the ham and husband the cod both were amazing. The mashed potatoes were home made and the green beans seasoned just right and some of the best I've ever had. The desert was even better I had peanut butter pie and he had chocolate pie. Just the right amount of sweetness to round out the meal. If you ever get the chance stop by you won't regret it. read more

The food has been excellent every time. The servers have also been friendly. However, there is a manager there (Amanda?) who is very rude and hateful. Dark hair with glasses. My family ate there today and the service was friendly and helpful, but we found the food to be very good. We had been traveling, so we were tired of fast food and decided to take a chance and we are happy we did! My youngest daughter tried the pancakes with strawberry topping, they were the best pancakes I have ever had, and the topping was perfect, NOT store bought!! My hamburger was good, and my husband's pork chop looked, and he said, tasted wonderful. My older daughter ordered a rib eye and she was very happy! Meeting from out of town with family members. Asked for a table for 8 was told to go into the back room to which there were no empty tables. Inquired and he said he thought I was apart of the party of 9. I replied no I am a separate party of 8. After a lengthy process of getting seated at a table for 6 with extra chairs squeezed in and extremely poor service on the exit it made the experience much less than desirable. While the food was 7 of 10 and the waitress was a 9 of 10 the host and cashier would get a zero. They could cause the business owners to go out of business soon. I would rather go to Marcellas in Mt Vernon where they are extremely friendly, have excellent service and care about their customers. This was a very disappointing experience that ruined the family gathering. So with 8 meals and 3 toys purchased that will be the last. You read this while I type, amazed that this restaurant still stands. My family often visits this place when Cracker Barrel is too full. It's passable, and I only make that statement because my family says so. However, I do not care for this place AT ALL. I have tried at least 6 different meals and didn't care for any of them. The pulled pork sandwich had fatty pieces and one bone fragment. The ground steak sandwich was....weird.... that's all I can say about that. I have not found anything about the restaurant to redeem it. Those that live in Berea may have different opinions, but across 6 visits, I have never found anything to dissuade me. Worst service, dissapointing food. Pickings are slim in Berea, but avoid this restaurant. Visited it two times while in the area. Setvice is terrible. First visit was all you can eat catfish. You are given one piece, then have to beg and Wait forever to get even a second. Thought maybe the waitress had a bad night. Tried a second time, waiter was rushing us to order. Husband ordered a chef's salad. Salad was all iceberg lettuce, minimal cubes of meat no tomatoes, no crackers or bread. My blt sandwich was two slices of white toast with three pieces of bacon,lettuce and tomatoe slabbed on it. Never saw the waiter again, he was too busy attending to a large party in the back. Finally we went to the register and asked for our check. Told the girl, terrible food and service. Second time here, happened both times. Her reply"why did you come back then?" Dinner Bell is somewhat of a quaint Cracker Barrel. The atmosphere and decor is very much like grandma's house. Their merchandise mostly consists of cozy quilts. There's also a small arcade section, near the restrooms, for young kids to enjoy. Dinner Bell offered your typical southern foods. They even had a special for each day of the week--of which I ordered the salmon patties, along with mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes as sides. I also ordered a cup of the vegetable soup. It was a good meal, I especially liked the soup and fried green tomatoes. The mashed potatoes were truly mashed potatoes, none of the flakes-from-a-box kind. Well just had the "All you eat ribs". One they're not ribs, not even close. What they give you is basically what's leftover after the baby, spare, and loin are removed. So pretty much the meat left around the spine of the hog. Call what you will but it's definitely not ribs by no stretch. They were awful but it's not what I was hoping for. They can argue all they want but I've raised hogs commercially for whole sale so I've butchered one or two to say the least. Just stop claiming they're ribs. Just left and had "the all you you can eat fish" had one piece in 2 hours. My dad ordered chicken livers and he got his food an hour after everyone else. Catfish is mushy on the inside. This usually happens if the fish is frozen when you place it in the oil. Thaw your fish before frying!!

We stopped in on Friday evening. It wasn't too crowded and my wife and I had some pretty good catfish. was there, 5/24/16, at noon, 3 tables occupied, 3 servers, ours came to table got drinks, was ask to give us some time to look at menu, 15 minutes later, I got up went behind of server station, all 3 were leaning on table, I asked please to be waited on. I am a native of Berea, Ky., and when I return to my home town, there's only one destination I long to visit -- Dinner Bell. Many reviews compare this Berea landmark to Cracker Barrel. Trust me, friends, the Dinner Bell was serving fabulous food before the Cracker Barrel folks even realized Berea was on the map! Dinner Bell isn't the Waldorf; it's a casual restaurant which serves casual food. However, throughout the past 28 years, Dinner Bell has maintained the highest standards when preparing its offerings, start to finish. The food is prepared from the best ingredients, and it's so authentic that you'll think your Southern grandmother is cooking in the kitchen. I love all the delicious entrees served with perfect vegetables, but my favorite menu item is the PORK TENDERLOIN SANDWICH! I've been known to drive four hours from my present home to Berea just to enjoy one. There's no secret to how its made. It is simply the best tasting sandwich I've EVER had, without question.
