We had an incident where there was an error on the website, resulting in food that was prepared that couldn't be eaten. We discovered it through our conversation with Darin and Jesse, and by that evening the website was adjusted and Jesse personally delivered replacement food to me the next day. What I like about Dinner Elf is that it marks off the boxes that I value in meals: 1) Eating with my family at the dinner table; 2) Eating healthy home cooked food; 3) Saving the valuable time three nights a week not cooking and cleaning - instead we spend it helping the kids with homework and other things, since my husband and I both work full-time 4) Cost effective. When I did the analysis, I was spending the same amount on groceries as I do now on groceries + Dinner Elf, but my grocery cart has gotten smaller (time saver...) and I don't waste so much food. After tasting Dinner Elf food and getting to meet one of the original elves at a work function, I have given Dinner Elf as a gift several times, but we finally tried it for ourselves last night. I really like to cook and meal plan, but knowing this week would be a little crazy, I anticipated us getting takeout at least 3 times for dinner, so we decided to experiment with Dinner Elf instead. We spent about as much as we would spend eating 3 takeout dinners, but we have lots of portions and had plenty for breakfast this morning and probably a lunch or two as well. (The Breakfast For Dinner menu made it really easy to plan for quick and delicious french toast this morning!) Now we are planning on subscribing to monthly service so we can treat ourselves to a break from meal-planning and prep on a predictable schedule, rather than getting overwhelmed and resorting to less healthy takeout food for its convenience. Extra perks - my curious kids enjoyed the novelty of having a new person working in the kitchen and Chef Jenn was great - she remained focused and efficient while very nicely letting them taste ingredients and showing them her knife skills. And she left the kitchen cleaner than she found it, with everything put back in its place (I expected she might leave things on the drying rack, but nope, it was all dried and put away) and the food was packaged in ready-to-heat portions with sauces separate and clearly labeled. Also, the containers they leave are reusable and the next time you book them, they will reuse them if you want so you don't build up a ton of containers - love that efficiency and less waste. Awesome first experience...and EXACTLY what we need for elderly family members, if they expand to San Antonio! read more
