I sent an email to a contact within ATT Office of the President. I had come into contact with this office from a previous filing with the FCC, Alabama Attorney General, FTC and BBB regarding an issue with an international billing error their customer service refused to address back in January. Today I had a conversation with the person who handles these issues on the Direct TV side. She took the time to review my complaint, listen and gather the facts. Once she understood the sequence of events, she agreed to send a kit to return and ensure there is no reverse billing. She also stated that the notes on my account had a lot of missing information about the sequence of events I outlined below. I found that interesting. As I stated before, this behavior by the Atlanta office that handles customer service has a systemic issue that needs to be addressed. It was easy for me to recap the sequence of events. I jotted notes down on paper and kept them on file. Why can't they at least type them into their CRM system? I encouraged her to go to Yelp and look at the reviews for Direct TV in the Atlanta office. While she noted that complaints often represent a small percentage of the overall customer count, I challenged her to at least review them to understand the "defects" in their processes. Direct TV could actually make significant improvements by listening to customers complaints on Yelp. The only reason I got through to her office is because back in January I filed four complaints. FCC, Alabama Attorney General, FTC and BBB on an unrelated issue with ATT International billing. Had it not been for those filings, no one at ATT would have ever contacted me. Because someone from the Office of the President did, I now had someone to contact this time around. Bottom line is, consumers shouldn't have to file with all these governing agencies to get traction on their complaints. Direct TV and ATT must have an escalation protocol. If you are having a struggle with your Direct TV account and you believe your case has merit, private message me and I will share with you these contacts. The lady I spoke with today handled this issue professionally. What one would expect from their front-line Customer Service Representatives. I give her five (5) stars! I'll move the overall score up to two (2) stars simply because of her. However, one shouldn't have to go to these extremes to get to the right person. Unfortunately I can't give a "zero" recommendation. As a twenty year Directv customer, I've been through the disaster that was AT&T. However, the Directv spinoff has hit a new low. For the third time this year, a system malfunction has resulted in signal loss and inability to default to internet. It takes multiple calls to an overseas call center to get a tech appointment. (Sorry Directv, I've done the self help process so many times I can teach your customer service a few tricks). The Mastec contractor showed up an hour late without calling. It was raining so they couldn't use the ladder. I had to call overseas again to reschedule. Second time Mastec never showed up. Two wasted afternoons, I contacted the "customer retention" office. What a joke! They could only transfer me to the overseas support center and were not allow to offer help, or transfer the call to Corporate headquarters in California. Time to ditch Directv like millions of other former customers. read more

Below one star. A lot of issues. Most importantly the way they talked down to an elderly person I overheard , and finally had to intervene. It's sad that Costomer service gets by with this and also , costomer service when someone ask for a manager they will switch you to another Costomer service person for hours, a few of them presented to be a manager And found out was not. I spoke with a manager in the US in Montana he said, about talking with with an elderly person this bad. Was not a problem for him to continue talking bad to me. Always a problem with them It seems, no one seems to understand the issues at hand. Had to take help take their billing out of auto pay bc charged 6 bill's - same bill in 6 days. Took MANY months to get their money back for them . Think it's close to 4 months. Charged for multiple tv 's in use for over a year and only had one. Took many months for them to understand the problem. Costomer service most of the time leaves out important notes to be put in system . Not sure how Ai is working for them if they have it . They sell you something with the Costomer service and then they read out your bill when you let them know there was an error and is not what Costomer service sold you! record your talkes if you can. A lot of the problem comes from them not appropriately taking down the notes down on their files for ppl they were to do and the next Costomer service is lost and have to start over. I can't understand the way they're talked so badly to this elderly couple. It's so sad.. Few days ago, was told THREE different things on one simple question all with in 30 mjn's. !!!!! This was on billing - prices - free movie channels they push on you -thats not good at all . And maybe this is why the elderly couple was thinking bet heard wrong , SHAME ON YOU DIREC TV !!! Horrendous customer service! Signal repeatedly went out. Three times I spent hours on the phone with customer service reps regarding a billing error. Was told on each occasion that a representative would be calling me in the next 48 hours. Never, ever received a call back. Avoid Direct TV like the plague. read more

Not sure if they are fraudulent or just incompetent. I had one of those 2 year deals with internet and tv. I was getting close to the end of the contract so I called to clarify when I should cancel. Was told to call in my cancellation by the 1rst of September (2019). I asked again because I knew I had the installation done in October of 2017. The directv person said to do the cancellation on the first of September and I would not get a cancellation fee. They also said I would be mailed a package to bag up and send in their equipment. Never arrived and I had to go down to a UPS store to turn it in. Looked online to find my final bill and verification of the cancellation with no fee. Could not even get into the account since it appeared they closed that too. That was funny because I still had the internet. Tried to call and verify and could not get anyone to tell me anything. Soooo, guess what? I got hit with a cancellation fee. I called and complained and finally got someone to reverse the fee. ATT sux. I will be cancelling the internet also just because of this. On 10/21/2019, I contacted Directv/AT & T, to cancel my fathers service, in Northern California. The next morning, my service in Southern California was canceled. I spent the next eight hours over a couple days, trying to get my service reestablished. They requested I have another credit check and contract done. I flat refused, seeing as it was their fault to begin with. To this day, I still have one of my TV's not working. That TV had an older box, so they sent me a new box. However, I have contacted them multiple times to try and get this box programmed so it will work with a tracking dome. Their representatives are not knowledgeable on this matter to help. My old box was working perfectly, yet they refuse to reboot it. They instructed me to contact a private company to install fix their problem at my expense. read more

It's been a long two weeks. Who am I kidding? It's been a long 2011, but when I hit my 40 hour work week sometime mid-Wednesday, I knew this week would be different. So yes, I'm cranky. Um, make that crankier. I'd love to wax rhapsodic over some golly-gee-swell, double rainbow burger joint that'll work your palate like a high dollar whore (and not even forget about the balls) but seeing as how I'm surlier than Lindsey Lohan's parole officer, I need to unleash on a target worthy of my wrath and venomous bile. Hello, DirectTV. I'm on record for hating Comcast. In fact, in my review of Comcast, I stated that I would "compare their staff to lobotomized rhesus monkeys were it not insulting to the monkeys." That said, DirectTV is incapable of reaching even these high standards. To wit: It took us three tries to get the dish installed. THREE. As my dear Meemaw used to say, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice and FUCK YOU WITH A RUSTY CHAINSAW YOU PIECE OF FLAMING DOGSHIT." Now why did it take us three times? Here's a paraphrased transcript of my first conversation with DirectTV: "So, we live on the second floor of a two story building. We don't have interior roof access. Will your guys be able to handle that?" "Of course!" By "of course," they obviously meant "of course not," because when the tech arrived he flatly stated, "Yeah, I'm going to need a 40 foot ladder." "You didn't bring one?" "It's not on the work order." "Can you use ours?" "It's against the rules." Great, an ethical install tech. I respect that in the way they sterilize the needle before giving a death row inmate a lethal injection. Second try. "Hello DirectTV. Please make sure that the technician has a 40 foot ladder." "Got ya." "So it's ON the work order?" "I put it right in for you." The technician arrives. "Yeah, I'm going to need a 40 foot ladder." "You didn't bring one?" "It's not on the work order." That's funny. I'm pretty sure a cockpunch isn't on the work order and I think you're going to get one of those. So yes, it took a THIRD try. Luckily, my wife has a fairly flexible schedule (even though, yes, she works for living) so we were able to accommodate dumb and dumber and dumberer. Once installed, the actual service was adequate at best. Sure the cost was fine, but I can assure you that rain, snow, an angry swarm of bees--most anything will affect the signal. Yes, I reset the box. Yes, the diagnostic would indicate 98% satellite strength. Sometimes my signal would just fuzz out like it was on a bender with Charlie Sheen and Andy Dick. And, for some reason, I could NEVER get SpikeTV even though it's part of our basic package. Do you know how many times I've flipped through the channel guide and said, "Oh look, Star Trek:The Wrath of Khan!" only to remember it's on Spike and for some reason I can't get it? Total Spockblock, my friends. But what finally broke me was the DVR. I could handle the low sensitivity when switching from fastfoward to play. I could handle the crap user interface. What ended up killing me was when the remote stopped working. Not all the time mind you, just intermittently, like when *I* wanted to watch TV. No, it wasn't a broken remote. Actually, it wasn't even the IR sensor on the DVR. After tracking and researching and talking to many a service rep, I'm pretty sure it was a firmware issue because the DVR was programmed by the Amish. A few months of this led us to crawl back to Comcast. COMCAST. "Yeah, baby, come back. I promise it'll be different this time. I know we've had out problems, but I've CHANGED. I still LOVE YOU." Ugh. Horrible! My business TV isn't working, we called technical service who sent a man out today who said a new box had to be sent. He called from my office and I heard him give my account number and say it was a business. He then gave me his number so when the box came he would come to help set it up for me. The box came and my asssitant tried setting it up, then called direct TV where she spent 45 minutes on the phone only to be told they sent us a box for home use not office, she asked why would they do that and the person said they are in boxes and not labeled so you do not know what you are getting. CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW IRESPONSIBLE AND REDICULOUS THAT IS!!! This person was not willing to help and only saying she will send out another box and we are not sure what box we are going to get. After 5 years as a customer of Directv, I have finally written them off in favor of Dish Network. Directv has a great product. But, some of the most horrific customer service that I have ever seen. Particularly their installation team. I can't tell you how many times, through a series of corporate relocations that Directv has failed to show up for installation appointments that were scheduled well in advance. I recently moved to Atlanta from Colorado and took advantage of Directv's relocation plan. The person that I spoke to one the phone made it quite easy (though expensive seeing that I had done another relocation in the previous 12 months). But, I was sticking with Directv regardless of cost because I liked the service. Well, my long reserved Saturday appointment came and, as is usually the case, there was no Directv installation rep anywhere to be found within the four hour window that we had set for the appointment. Finally, about two hours after the end of my four hour window, I called them to find out where he was. He got held up and would be there "shortly". Over the years, I have learned that, with Directv, "shortly" means at some point in the next 8-12 hours. Enough's enough. I canceled the install, called Dish Network and had my dish installed and working in time for the Falcons game the next afternoon. Dish was efficient, arrived when they said they would and employed staff that was more than willing to do what it took to make me a satisfied customer. Its a shame that Directv can't get a handle on their installation service because they do have a very good product. The frustration that they caused this otherwise long term committed customer cost them by business of five years. read more

So my parents moved to Georgia from NY and they Were transferring their direct service to their new home. Well the idiot tech comes out and says he's having a problem getting a signal because of a tree, then finally says he found a good spot. He lays out the cable in the front yard and just leaves and says He's coming back and never shows back up. We called to let him know we were calling c/s and let them know what's going on. My poor rating is all about the morons that Directv hires to do their installations. I initially got Directv when I lived down in Columbus, GA, and was mostly happy with it. I liked the channel selection much better than what cable was offering, and it never went out, even during storms. My only complaint about the service itself was that I couldn't get local channels. Of course that wasn't Directv's fault, but some lame-ass deal between Columbus stations and cable co's. So, fast-forward to about 6 months ago when I decided to move to Atlanta. When I moved into my apartment, I was assured that I could get Directv, and that the coax cable had already been installed, running from each apartment to the roof. All the Directv geniuses had to do was put the dish on the roof and screw in the cable, and put the box in my apartment and screw in the cable. Sounds pretty easy, no? So, I set up an appointment for a few days later between 3 and 6pm. I get a call around noon from the installer telling me that he is at my apartment and cannot install the dish. Interesting, I say, how can you possibly be at my apartment, which is surrounded by security gates when I was not there to let you in? Surely, if you would've talked to the apt management folks to get in, they would've shown you just how possible, and easy, it is to install the dish. I soon realized that reason was not getting me anywhere with this guy, so I hung up and called Directv customer service to tell them about the situation. They told me that they would have a guy out there at the scheduled time, and he would talk to the apt maintenance guys to get the dish installed. So, 3 o'clock comes around and I am out of work early, standing around my apartment waiting for the guy. Around 5, I start to get impatient and call customer service again. They have the installation company call me and tell me that the guy is at my apartment building and should be up in a few minutes. Fifteen minutes later, no guy. I call back the installation company and they connect me directly to the installer. It turns out it is the same guy, who again tells me that the dish cannot be installed. When I asked him to just come up to my apartment so we can both go talk to maintenance together, he informs me that he is miles away headed to another job. I don't think this guy ever came to my apartment the first or second time that day. I called customer service yet again and told them that I was done talking to their installers, and that if they didn't have the problem solved by the next day, to cancel my service. I've been without Directv, or any tv provider, for 6 months now. read more

I have been a customer with DirectTV for approximately one month and I must say, I love the product. However, customer service is lacking! First, the customer service rep couldn't retrieve my account information. Poor girl couldn't spell my name or follow the order of numbers for my home phone correctly to save her life. =( After a couple of tries, she gave up and settled with "your information isn't in the system" although the computerized system verified my info before I spoke to her. **Blank Stare** After immediately calling back the customer service department, I was told that there is absolutely nothing that can be done regarding an order that was never processed regarding a Genie Mini. I was then transferred over to the retention services department after telling them that I am a new customer and that I had initially ordered the Genie Mini. The tech was even told this. Well...the retention reps were more than happy to process a complete cancellation instead of offering any kind of options. The rep sounded like she just wanted me to shut the hell up so she could cancel my account and get me off the phone. #WOW I am stunned and disappointed. read more

So I buy a new house, see. And I try to get my service transferred. Takes a few tries. First guy doesn't have the right equipment. Says I need a special thingamob. Second guy goes to the old house. Third guy arrives and gets the satellite installed. Each time, you have to wait around for a 3 hour window. First problem is the dang receiver crashes every couple of days, requiring a 5 minute or so reboot. Really sucks when it cuts into your recording of Heroes. Makes me understand where Sylar gets his psychopathic tendencies from. He must subscribe to DIRECTV too. Second problem is the service goes out in the middle of games. Main reason I liked Directv (as opposed to cable) is for Sunday Ticket and Superfan. But when you miss parts of the game because the service doesn't work, kind of ticks you off that your paying close to 2 benjamins a month. Cheaper to go to the sports bar and get some beers with the game. After 2 service visits where they tweak my thingamob (boy was that exciting), the receiver still crashes, but the service seems to be working at least. Until October, when the whole dang service stops working entirely. Not just the one that gets freaked out when Sylar cuts into people skulls with his mad telekenetic serial killer skills. It's like this system has been taken down by The Company. Back to the superfun support line where they have me tweak my widgets a few times, then agree they need to send out a professional. First professional makes an appointment. I carve out the time. They don't show. I call them up. They say they still have the old address. I tell them, this aint the first time that happened. Please fix my records. They promise they will. Then they do it to me again! Can you believe it? I call and raise a stink. It's been like 3 weeks with no TV service. Thank goodness I'm a Rebel and know how to use BitTorrent, because on Thanksgiving week, these guys show up at the old house a third time. By this time, I'm thinking there must be a vast conspiracy to keep me from watching Cheerleaders. Is my wife in on this? I'd say I'm going nuts. She'd say I've already arrived. (Or perhaps a better way to put it is "It's not like if you had a working TV, you wouldn't be crazy") I call the DIRECTV masochism service and ask for another flogging. No wait, that's not quite right. Oh yeah, I call them and say It's the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and my games are on tomorrow. If you don't get someone over here today, I'm cancelling this service and going with Cable. They tell me, you can't do that. We'll charge you up the wazoo for cancelling your contract (that we conveniently failed to reveal to you ahead of time when we, ahem, "sold" you your DVR that is twenty times harder to use than a Tivo). And we're sorry but we can't be out there until next week. I'm like "What? You can't deliver service and want to hold me to a contract that forces me to pay for it anyway." Yeah, basically, that's their story and they are sticking with it. So I say cancel. They make me return the equipment I supposedly bought to them under threat of even more charges, but I figure I am never going to use them again, so no sweat. Not like it would sell on eBay anyway. I send it back. They tried to charge my credit card that they had on file, but I won the dispute. Now they've sicced collections on me. They want me to pay them $700 to stop terrorizing me. Since the merge with ATT this service has went down hill no NBC and always signal problems, terrible customer service and to expensive.

I obtained Direct TV satellite service through AT&T on March 14, 2018 and cancelled the satellite service on March 29, 2018 due to extremely poor service/and quality of installed equipment. Initially, I was promised voice remote service, yet the technician informed me that Direct TV does not currently offer voice remote service. Then we experienced extremely long wait times when contacting customer service for technical support. We found ourselves constantly running up and down the stairs to reset the system in attempt to correct technical issues that kept resurfacing and downloading one TV episodes or a movie would routinely take over an hour. Then an unscheduled representative showed up at my home to check the outside connection, which I found out was not grounded correctly (when I called to verify the representative and complain that the visit was unscheduled). I received telephone calls to my personal cell phone from the installing technical before 5:30 am, and when I complained the representative attempted to make an excuse for the technician's inappropriate time of call. Considering the two weeks of highly unsatisfactory home satellite service and equipment, sub-par customer service rendered, and the poor communication exhibited I cancelled the satellite service. I immediately received a bill of over $900, so I contacted customer service to rectify the bill. The equipment was returned via UPS Store on April 2, 2018 and equipment charges were eventually deducted from my bill. I immediately received a Direct TV bill of over $900, so I contacted customer service to rectify the bill. On April 20, 2018, AT&T generated and issued a bill for $494.05, so I contacted the billing department again and spoke with Kim #10103230. After speaking with Kim, a bill was generated on April 30, 2018, billing period 4/7/2018 to 4/29/2018 stating the account is disconnected and the previous balance of $438.40 was changed to read New Charges: Other Charges, Adjustments & Taxes -438.40, Total New Charges -438.40, TOTAL AMOUNT DUE $0.00. On April 22, 2018, $122.06 was retrieved from my checking account as the total amount due on the first billing statement. Instantaneously, AT&T automated prerecorded calls began calling my home telephone in attempt to collect the aforementioned credited amount. On 26 May 2018, I spoke with JC #JC765G around 1:20 pm about the billing issue. JC informed me that my billing issue would be resolved within 3 to 4 business days, but refused to provide additional written confirmation of the resolution. On 2 June 2018, we received a letter from AT&T dated 26 May 2018, that our internet and telephone services will be temporarily disconnected if the overdue payment of $494.05 is not received by 1 June 2018. As promised AT&T suspended our services, inconveniencing my spouse that started his last two online classes to finish is college degree. Once again, I called AT&T (4 June 2018) at the telephone number on the letter 1-800-288-2020 and the representative was unable to assist me claiming the system was down. Noticing my disappointment, my spouse contacted AT&T at 10:15 am on 4 June 2018, waited on line for a representative enduring verification, explained the issue repeatedly, requested a supervisor due to the complexity of the issue and was again ending the call without actual proof of resolution. My husband was promised a supervisor (Angel) would call back within an hour, several hours later still no call back. I have verification that the charges were reversed and will gladly forward a copy of this document to whomever needed to resolve this matter. We also ended up calling Direct TV during the lunch hour, spoke with Ira #IM623A, whom informed me that AT&T had paid the bill, so I told him that AT &T did not pay the bill and is waiting for a system annotation that the charges were waived, he put me on hold. When Ira returned he informed me that the charge could be waived if I returned to Direct TV, which I declined. However, Ira though polite was not able to resolve my issue either, but he submitted a request to waive the early termination fee that takes 7 to 10 business days to review before resolution. I was disappointed that a Manager from Direct TV promised me the early termination fee would be waived, then they electronically transferred the debt to AT & T and sent a bill to me stating TOTAL AMOUNT DUE: $0.00. I had never experienced this level of service in 20+ years of cable TV (Infinity/Cox or Time Warner). PS. To avoid further issues (in protest) we paid the $494.05 charge to keep the internet service working and avoid a negative report to credit agencies.
