My office did a group order for delivery. The estimated delivery was 45 minutes, but it probably wasn't more than 20 so it was pretty fast. The staff were all friendly and thorough regarding our order. We had different items so it was a good overview. It was also nice as the pizza boxes had coupons on them. Be sure to cut out the coupons for next time. My pizza was unfortunately not great. Tasted a bit bland and dry. The crust was rock hard and wasn't improved by microwaving the next day. The price wasn't bad at least, I paid $9 for an 11 inch one topping lunch pizza. The Stromboli is what this place is known and loved for. They also have a Stromboli lunch special that's pretty cheap. Some of my coworkers enjoy their subs too. Basically it's a great local place that is best for Stromboli. read more

Update: Dakota was very nice and tried to fix the issues I had. It's very appreciated when they recognize the problem and try to fix it. Ordered for delivery and the order was wrong. It was my first time ordering and I told them I wanted a salad with cheese and olives and they gave me a salad with a single tomato and pepper nothing else. It took over 40 minutes to get here and the pizza is cold. The taste wasn't there either, but who knows if it's good hot! read more

Boy are we glad they opened in Johnstown! I've heard about Dirko's in Newark for years; but, never made the trip out to go there. We received a mailer advertising their ten mile delivery radius so we took a chance. And boy were were delighted with them! The pizza is laden with toppings. No skimping here! The crust is okay. But, the sauce! Slightly spicy, slightly tangy! Yum! For us, the start of the meal is the cheese stuffed breadsticks! They are cheesy, covered in garlic butter, and served with a delicious sauce! It is more of a traditional gravy, with hints of chicken and basil! Yum! read more

Visiting from Las Vegas, fell in love with the town for the views and cute downtown area. However, this place made me fall in love more. Great food, great prices and everything was hot even after our 5 minute drive back to our hotel. We order the calzone, chicken wings, cheese fries and mini corn dogs. After reading what fellow YELPer's had to say I have finally tried Dirko's. And now I've had it twice in 5 days. For starters, the first time I tried the Stromboli after reading it's glowing reviews. I will say YELPer's were spot on! That thing was delicious! One of the locals here in Mt. Vernon that I work with confessed that he has it at least once or twice a month. I can see why. Now, this time I figured I'd try the pizza. I was sure it would be ok, but not like the Stromboli. Well maybe I should stop assuming. The pizza was really, really good too. And I'm not usually a fan of thin crust pizza either. In this case I'll gladly eat a thin crust pizza w/out crying about a lack of thick chewy crust that I love. Love affairs are fickle. One minute, cRazy so crazy in love. Next minute, all your things In a box to the left. My love affair with Dirkos has ended. Up to this point I've only ever ordered their Stromboli, which is really delicious. I loved Dirkos. I get the regular Stromboli and add sausage/green pepper/onion. Yum. Tonight, I decided to test our relationship and get a sub. Sigh. Wrong move. I ordered the Deluxe Steak and Cheese sub. The bread was great, good sub bread. Crispy outside, soft inside. But the sandwich itself...hmmmm. A steak and cheese sub is normally made with that incredible chopped steak with melted cheese on top. Even steak'ums would've worked better than this option. With this sub the meat was actually like a chuckwagon patty, similar to the kind you use to get in the school cafeteria. It was more like a hamburger, an oblong hamburger. I could tell by the markings on it that it obviously came in frozen, I'm not sure if it was even grilled...I'm gonna bet it was microwaved. I only ate half. Blah. Why three stars? Cause I'm fickle...it's a love affair. And the Stromboli is lovely. read more

This use to be a decent place all around but when my 70 yr old sister ordered a sub it was terrible!! The sub bun was so hard and burnt she couldn't eat it. To make a long story short . she called the store and the manager wanted to argue and say she was trying to get another sub for free she told him she had the full sub and he could have it back nothing .missing from the sub mind u. After the manager continued to argue with her he did make it right but had to give this lady a hard time and all she wanted was to eat her $8.00 sub!!! Oh by the way manager name is Dean!! Whenever I want to indulge, I order Dirko's Stromboli. They pack it full and it's always delivered (or picked up) steaming hot. The sauce is my favorite part, and I always use so much per bite! Sometimes, I order a bigger size (medium or large) stromboli for myself- because who doesn't like leftovers? If you're in town and in the mood for "pizza", try Dirko's stromboli! The pizza is great especially the sausage they use, sub was pretty gross but what really hurts this business is the insanely long delivery times. 45 minutes at lunch or an hour plus at dinner is really pathetic for the area. Ordered delivery on a weeknight, and it arrived well inside the 45 minutes they said on the phone. The stromboli (sausage and mushroom) and pizza (chicken and banana peppers) were hot and delicious (especially the stromboli). Only issue I had is that I ordered a salad, and they didn't bring me any plastic ware. Delivering to a hotel room, one should assume a person doesn't have fork and knife in the room. I don't hand out 4 stars that easily, and I am not saying this compares to some speciality restaurant in a large city, but among its brothers and sisters in the pizza world this is one of the best. Their pizza is so delicious and made with fantastic ingredients, but barely anyone knows that because... They literally have the best Stromboli I've ever tasted, and I love Stromboli! The meat Stromboli has pepperoni, sausage and bacon (I believe), but whatever it is... It is perfect. We normally also order a Hawaiian Stromboli as well, which really makes it difficult to choose which one to each more of. One Warning: the veggie is LOADED with onions, even for onion lovers (which I am not). If you order it, I'd say "light on the onions" at the very least. Next time you need some Stromboli or pizza check this place out, but make sure you give them 40-45 minutes because they are busy! read more

The business model for this place is quite janky. I wouldn't bother calling within 30 minutes of closing time, because they'll always be closed for whatever reason (ran out of cheese, bad weather, etc). If you decide to close early every night, perhaps change the hours of operation? I would understand if it were an aberration. Unfortunately, it isn't. We consistently have good food and good service from Dirko's. The Stromboli is to die for, and my family also really likes the lasagna and burgers. Only real complaint is they frequently run out of burgers! Salads are hit or miss, sometimes the bagged salad tastes bad. read more

Sorry reviewers, I consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur. Dirkos pizza crust tasted like a grocery store frozen pizza. Getting only a basic pepperoni pizza we thought that was a good telling point for quality. The toppings are also cheap. Being from the Columbus, Ohio area, this pizza shop wouldn't last a minute with all the high quality pizza places. I'm sure there are other better quality pizzas in the Mt Vernon area. Note: how can you really mess pizza up that bad right? Well, we each ate 2 pieces and the trash can had the rest. Sorry, it was late and we were hungry and had to find something else to eat. Maybe the Stromboli might be a better option but we will not be trying that anytime soon. read more

Since an earlier visit to this restaurant, I have noticed a world of improvement on customer service and accuracy of orders. The stromboli is my favorite here. What was impressive to me was how attentive the front line staff were with all of the customers coming in for their pick up orders. The gentleman always told each one how many minutes were left before it was ready. Customers like to be able to manage expectations, and the staff helped us do that.
