I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! The staff is incredibly thorough, but also please also be advised you will probably be there **2 HOURS** if you whole heartedly plan to seriously adopt a new family member. I've seen a lot of complaints that this shelter is short staffed, but keep in mind, many of these people are volunteers trying to help re-home animals to caring, loving owners. The wait was so worth it. We adopted our newest family member, a deaf stray, who is incredibly well behaved. The staff gave us every last detail on his health, behavior, and known history. The handlers were incredibly thoughtful when introducing us to our new pet. They also include several vaccinations, surgery, and a microchip in the adoption fees. They send you home with a list of vets that give you your first check up free (though keep in mind we still needed to add some services such as heart worm). I love Denver Animal shelter and appreciate everything they do!

YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!

This upsetting and honestly, it's CENSORSHIP! Let me try again and see if yelp decides to censor me again. We adopted a cockapoo here. My mother paid $480 for our girl. We arrived and she comes out to us, UNBATHED, UNGROOMED and she SMELLED awful. She had diarrhea all over her rear end and she was SO terrified, she was shaking and pooped in the girls arms as she was carrying her. It was OBVIOUS that not ONE person had worked with her, bathed her or groomed her since she arrived at this facility! Just put her up on line and waited for someone to adopt her. Clearly NOT in it for the welfare of these animals. Just the money. Never an apology or explanation for this. No follow up phone call to see how she was adjusting. NOTHING. Based on everything here, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this rescue. They are SHAMEFUL!

We requested a medium sized dog that didn't shed much fur due to my mom being allergic, and they provided. Their dogs are healthy, and were abandoned by previous owners, meaning they might take longer to bond to you than other dogs, but they wound up really sweet. The dogs are average price, and they have a very neat doggo area, with a big area where they take the dogs and pop them in there with you to see if they might like you.

When we adopted her July of 2011, thanks to David S.'s recommendation, she was just over a pound and tiny. The vet said he doubted she was a full eight weeks and she was a tad underweight but she had been spayed and her little baby belly had a little tiny stitch in it which healed nicely. She had a little bit of a goopy eye that she got drops for and it cleared up. Our vet gave her the initial exam for free because she was a rescue and gave her a clean bill of health. We began the fatten-up-baby-Leeloo project and now she is still small, but her proper, almost adult weight. Let's just say, she is the prefect match for our family and my heart is warmed every single time I see her especially when she crawls on my chest to wake me in the morning to point out the fact she is a Supreme Being - the Fifth Element and needs chicken. I hardly remember life without her now.

We applied that night, someone reached out within a couple of hours, and by the next day, he was a part of our family. We've had him for two weeks, and he's amazing. So nice to have the dogs in foster care before you get them. It allows the foster to really get to know the dog's personality better than if they're in a shelter, so they can help match the right dog to the right person/family. Love our sweet Gaucho!

I've been taking my babies to Pets on Broadway for the past 11 years, since I moved to CO. I love…read morethem. They are knowledgeable, have never steered me wrong, and are caring and compassionate. I have probably seen all the doctors there and aside from 1 recent experience with a vet I had not seen before, they have all been exceptional. In regards to reviews going downhill the good stuff is after this paragraph)... maybe it's due to just 1 specific doc... for theFIRST time ever I had a bad experience a month ago. My pup was sick throwing up and such and she was also limping. He wouldn't address both issues and told me we'd only address one that day. I chose the sick vs her limp. 3 1/2 weeks go by, my pups limping has gotten much worse, and a doc I love (Dr.Hand) helped me in the follow up visit. She said it may be a soft tissue issue (X-rays showed no fractures) and my pup is to rest for 2 weeks then evaluate next steps after. Which brings us to now... it's been a week and still limping. Makes me wonder if the other doctor addressed the limping in my prior appointment and put her on rest then would she be doing better than having an extra 3 weeks of puppy energy play on a bad leg :( SO... the point of my rambling...maybe these bad reviews are due to a particular vet and should not be a reflection on the business as a whole (important to note he was right about the sickness that was addressed though). I don't remember the names of all the other vets I've liked but Dr.Scholnick is AMAZING and she's who I used to ask for all the time... and now Dr. Hand is also a favorite. If you try POB perhaps ask for one of them. I do not want to name names of the vet I had a poor experience with since I only saw him once, for all I know he could be amazing normally and he could have just been having a bad day when I saw him. But every other vet I've ever seen there has been awesome. Which brings me to the 11 years of experience I've had with them excluding this recent incident...... There are so many good things I can say about them but caring about their patients is #1 for me. For example, unlike previous vets I've had, if there is an emergency they've always been able to fit me in. Even if it's not an emergency but an urgent issue they've always gotten me in to see them within 48 hours and within a few hours for emergency situations. This is HUGE both because I trust them and don't want to go to a vet I know nothing about and also because emergency vets are SO expensive so being able to fit in my pets quickly is a GIANT deal. Another example of how caring... a while back my dog was diagnosed with late stage bladder cancer and would pass away at any time but was still so happy and not in pain when diagnosed. I got the news 3 days after my 34 yr old husband went into hospice care and would also die within days to weeks. POB were SO compassionate and I can't even imagine how hard it was for them to deliver this news. The vet I usually saw back then even offered to come to my house to put her down when so I wouldn't have to leave my husbands side. Also AMAZING (did not opt for this option but incredible of them)... since my dog would die at any moment and same with my husband, they said normally they wouldn't put her down when she was still happy bouncing around, not until she became uncomfortable. But they said they would make an exception if I needed this case if I so chose if it'd be easier for me with my husband being sick. Incredible. They've always known what they are talking about with sickness and injury. No misdiagnosis situations or rudeness or brushing me off even though I know sometimes Im even aware that I may just be paranoid and overreacting. It's so very much appreciate their patience with me and how sweet they are to my animals (even my cat who was let's just say not the kindest patient). The docs most definitely have that magical animal connection that so few people have. My dogs have all loved them even when they are nervous and my cat hated them less than 99% of people which is impressive to say the least!! These guys are the BEST. Everyone has off days and no one is perfect, we're human. It's sad to see people have had bad experiences and if I had a bad experience the first time at a vet I wouldn't go back either. But 11 years, 4 dogs and 1 cat later and I still absolutely love them.

I had to get a form filled out to have my pooch eligible for pet therapy, they never charged to fill out the form, they tracked down all his old pet records, call the pet therapy clinic to verify information, Altos was happy to help. When he had to take antibiotics, they also gave him probiotics to help with his tummy. When he was licking all the time-I thought maybe he had pain, they suggested heartburn medication, which worked. Wish I knew to try heartburn medication before. We used to go to Parkhill, and unfortunately, their service is terrible now, and my old girl was not treated well. I wish I knew of Altos then, she would have had a much better last year.
