After searching Craigslist for a reasonably priced Civic, I came across an ad for a Civic within the price range I wanted to pay. I immediately contacted Discount Auto Gallery and went in for a test drive. The test drive went fine and I bought the car the same day. Wyatt, the owner-operator, told me the title would be released to me within a month or so. More than a month passed - NO title. At this point, my temporary registration had expired, so I contacted Wyatt asking for an update regarding the status of the title. Wyatt told me there had been a mix up and that he would take care of it, but in the meantime he would overnight an extended temporary registration to my house. About a week and a half passed - NO temporary registration in the mail. At this point I figured I had waited around long enough, so I called Wyatt and told him I would be coming in to pick up the temporary registration. I went in and confronted him for Discount Auto Gallery's disingenuous business practices, and he apologized for everything that occurred. He told me that the car that I bought from Discount Auto Gallery was bought from an auction, but it was not supposed to go to auction, but did due to a clerical error. He told me this had never happened before, and that he would sort it out. I grew uneasy. For the meantime, I asked "where's the temporary registration?" "It's at the dealer DMV." Wyatt knew I was coming, yet had not taken the time to pick up the temporary registration. I had to ride over with AJ, the other owner-operator, and pick it up myself. Wyatt had truly made no effort to send me the temporary registration other than phoning it in to the dealer DMV. Outrageous. I shouldn't have to spend my time and gas money going to Escondido on the weekends. I stay in contact with Wyatt over the next week or two as he tries to sort out the looming title issue. Eventually, he says that the car would need to be returned and that I would receive a full refund. One nice thing that Wyatt did let me do is return the car on my own terms within the week, rather than demanding me to deliver it the same day. I brought in the car on the weekend at a time Wyatt requested (I arrived 30 minutes early) and asked for a full refund - he proceeds to try to have me swap out the car for another car he has in his inventory (practically none of which have titles on hand), but realizes I just want a refund. He begins to write me a personal business check and I immediately stop him: "I need a cashier's check." He grew frustrated and told me that the bank closed in fifteen minutes, and that he had customers coming in soon and could not leave. NOT MY PROBLEM. I googled his bank and found one that was open hours later, but he kept replying that he had customers coming in and could not leave. AJ came walking in and I said "AJ can take me to the bank," to which he replied "AJ is not an authorized user." "Fine, AJ can handle the customers, while you take me to the bank." Realizing he had no other plausible excuses, he reluctantly agreed. We went to the bank and he begrudgingly wrote me a cashier's check for the full refund amount. After, we went back to his shop to sign the release forms and I went on my way. My experience at Discount Auto Gallery was very poor, but I did essentially get a free rental car for a month and a half or so. Their prices are great, but practically none of the cars on hand have titles which makes car-buying a very unsettling process. Hopefully my experience was an outlier, but I would not recommend Discount Auto Gallery to anyone shopping for a used car, regardless of their good prices. Buyer beware. read more

We were in a bind to find a commuter car fast. Everybody knows going to dealer is a rip off, and Craigslist is a great source for a deal, but can be unpredictable. My husband found Discount Auto from cargurus.com. It's a website that shows how your price compares in the industry. We searched many sources and Discount Auto Gallery truly is the best deal in town. It is not a large dealership, but they get new inventory often. It's located in a small business strip mall and their showroom is private by appointment only in the back. I kind of like it as it is not overwhelming as some dealerships may be. Wyatt and his brother JJ are very friendly and professional. You won't feel any pressure and no need to haggle, you will not find a better deal. Trust me, I tried! We found a Civic that was in great condition, still has manufactures warranty, and they even get it professionally detailed for you. Wyatt and JJ do business the old fashioned way, with honesty and integrity. I will definitely be back when I need another vehicle and would be happy to recommend my family and friends. We bought a 2014 Honda Civic back in July from JJ and Wyatt and the whole process was super easy and painless. We were skeptical at first because the prices were so low and when we arrived there was no lot outside, but they keep all their cars inside a garage. They are able to price their cars much lower than anywhere else because of the low overhead. All the cars have car faxes and most of the cars are still under factory warranty. Overall, very honest small car dealer, and great place to find a good deal on a car! I have had my old car for 9 years and it was starting to worry me a bit. I take really good care of my things, so a car purchase is a big deal to me. I usually go to private party because you buy direct from the person who owned it, drove it, and serviced it. BUT there are also some downsides to private party, for example, you cannot get a good selection, and private party sellers do not sell newer cars like the 2012 (new-used) Honda Accord I just purchased from Wyatt at Discount Auto Gallery (in white/tan... SO pretty!). The benefit of a newer car is the warranty and low mileage: I have 2.5 more years of a power train warranty and also 5.5 more years of an emission warranty. Score! The benefit of going to a small dealer (i.e. Discount Auto Gallery) is that they do not pay huge fees for a huge lot that houses a ton of older cars that have a low turnaround sale time. You go to a huge lot/dealer and you're paying an extra $5,000 on a vehicle to help pay for the costs of storing tons of cars! What is the point of that? I did a lot of research and although the Kelley Blue Book value of my car was comparable (slightly higher actually, meaning I got a better deal than blue book value) to the price I paid at Discount Auto Gallery, the large dealers were literally charging almost 3-5K more than I paid. This is really a lot of savings for me, especially after having grad school loans. Used cars are the way to go, as we all know they lose value quickly after buying new. This place was so helpful and really saved me a ton of money. They also were very honest, polite, not pushy, and kept their word about everything. Go to a Credit Union for your car loan. SDCCU gave me 1.49% financing and gap insurance was $299. You can't get a better deal than that. It is STILL a better value than buying new. Do NOT let the dealerships fool you into thinking that a new car is a better deal because of the 0% financing. It is still cheaper to buy used. :) This was long, but I learned a ton buying this car. We were looking for a good reliable car for our teenage son when we saw their advertisement for a 2013 Honda Civic. The car was excellent and Wyatt was very detailed in disclosing everything about the vehicle background. His process of bring cash or your own financing helps to keep the costs down and we were able to find an car with low low milage in our price range. In addition they met us at 9:30 at night to deliver the car and release it after speaking with our credit union. A big shout out to AJ for spending an hour with my son and showing him all the cool features on the car, setting up his bluetooth and preferences and programing the cars computer to our sons specifications. What can I say? I found Discount Auto Gallery after literally going to 6 different dealerships that sold the type of used commuter car that I was looking for- a 4-5 year old Honda Civic with 60K miles or less. I found Wyatt and JJ's company the the TrueCar.com app on the USAA Car buying service website and immediately started corresponding through text and e-mails. I made an appointment for Saturday morning and drive almost 80 miles one way because they had a rare manual transmission with the mileage and price range I was looking for. JJ never rushed me to make a decision, but the whole process to buy this car took less than 2 hours out the door!!! After looking at almost 10 different cars all over the the inland empire region of SOCAL; this car was in the best shape- with minor dings, dents and scuffs that you could normally expect from a 4 year old car with 50K miles. We've been looking for a used car for about two months and quite frankly we were tired of the same old song and dance with the dealerships and too many questionable private party sellers who blatantly lied about accidents, or titles weren't in their name, or no current smog ect...... Then I found an add on Craig's List for a Honda Accord with low mileage and the price just seemed too good to be true but we took the chance and made the drive up to Escondido. Their store front is small and I was a bit worried at first but Wyatt and AJ were so helpful and honest. Carfax at the ready, clean titles and even with just the two of them they were able to help multiple clients, taking the time to answer questions, and several test drives. The Honda Dealer is just down the street and they have no qualms about taking the car down there to verify that it is still under warranty or even have it inspected by a mechanic (at your cost of course). We did neither because we were confident about the car we were purchasing. Wyatt was very accommodating when dealing with our credit union and even registered the car in our name the same day with the DMV. Only one word of warning, their cars are priced to sell.....fast. The car we purchased had 3 separate clients test it out and I jumped at the chance to say that we were buying it. If you are looking for a hard sell fast-talking slick salesman then don't try these guys! I had a great experience buying my new car and they made it very easy. Even though the price was thousands less than anywhere around they were able to take care of some minor cosmetic damage for me and even helped me after the sale went through with advice on selling my old car. I can't say enough good things about this place. Don't look any further, Discount Auto Gallery is the first and last place you need to go to find a beautiful and reliable vehicle.
